I ordered and recieved a Cromtech Outback Platinum 2.4 kw generator just before Christmas 2025. Upon unpacking my generator on Christmas Eve I noticed a very fine and small crack in the back muffler panel, nothing to worry about it was just a small cosmetic fault. I did however send am email to Cromtech on Christmas Eve 2025 just advising them of… Read more

the fault.Today the 09/01/2026 a package arrived containing a brand new back muffler panel for my generator. Truely excellant customer service at the busiest time of the year, I know am dealing with a great company in terms of product and customer service.

Thank you Mark

My Generator Cromtech 2400W generator – Ordered just prior to Christmas for the on coming storm season. Delivered in a timely manner. Filled with oil and fuel and went well after a couple of pulls. Went well running the house during our first blackout. The unit came with a caterpillar work light and charger, another excellent piece of gear.

Avoid avoid at all costs – I bought this brand generator but the 4.5kw version. Based on other peoples advice and 4 people i know purchasing them. All of them have stopped working including mine. All in the space of 12 to 18 months. Its cheap and for reason, Its dead. Now it is just sitting in my dads shed he won't let me throw it out it. I contacted the seller several… Read more

times but i don't have the time nor patience to deal with the lousy salesman, who try to find reasons not to refund me or fix it. Besides ive spent in total because of supposed repairs and service $800+

I know you're looking to save money, but don't buy a Cromtech Outback 2.4kw inverter generator – 'Don't buy this generator.' That's what I'd tell my earlier self, five years ago when I thought I'd collected enough 'good reviews' to warrant "saving" money on what I thought was a simple no-nonsense generator, the Cromtech Outback 2.4kw. Who needs to spend two and a half times the purchase price on a Honda, I thought at the time. And, for the… Read more

first three years, the Outback did what we needed it to - started, worked, allowed us to run vital household needs during outages in our remote location. Then, just out of warranty, it became difficult to start. Having only run the machine 20-30 hours total over that time, used fresh petrol, housed it inside in a warm and dry environment...it just wouldn't start. Then the flood hit. Cut off for over two months, getting out of the valley to reach supplies turned from a one hour journey on dirt and C-grade roads to a two and half hour journey over four wheel drive only forestry tracks. We put the Outback into the workshop, and waited. And waited...and waited...and waited, always hoping any more power outages would be just a few hours so we didn't lose the contents of our freezers. It was the ignition coils we were waiting for and, finally, months (not days) later, the workshop got the parts in and...the Outback still wouldn't start. Turns out it was also the inverter unit that was defunct; apparently a common thing in 'cheap' generators. And a new Cromtech inverter unit would cost the same as a new generator. So, bottom line, every highly-manufactured part of the Cromtech Outback was now unrecyclable landfill, a sickening waste of resources - and our money. The workshop kindly offered me the armful of parts, still shiny, clean and barely used, or, if I preferred, they'd bin it for me. Could they not use any part of it, I asked. Nothing. It's landfill. So tell yourself now what I'd like to tell my earlier self - spend at least double the money to get a Honda or, close second best, a Yamaha. Or you could do what I did, and "save money" buying a cheap generator like the Cromtech Outback 2.4. Your call.

Very disappointed – Flap to power socket snapped on first use. Numerous bolts holding the casing and isolation switch fell out. Casing melted. Caravan RV and Camping currently refusing to assist other than send me to the manufacturer. Do not waste your money on one of these units Show details

Sensational unit. Unbelievable value for money! – I paid $999inc for my unit. It runs unbelievably well, super quiet, has all the features and build quality of a unit twice the price. Its 2000w continuous rating is better than the yamaha. Its very easy to start. I just dont have enough good things to say Show details

Good unit – Bought this a few years ago to get us through a lengthy power outage of 1 week. Got us through ok. So long as you don't leave fuel in the tank and drain the carb using the easy to empty screw you should be ok to go next time you need it Show details

Cromtech Outback 2.4 – Recently purchased but great so far. Seems quieter than my old Kipor and less weight. Easy to start on choke then run and let settle for 3 minutes before connecting up. Tried my Ibis 3 today and no worries there, runs ok. Show details

Quality and Support Key to buying – Bought from McFarlane Generators in Brendale QLD - I needed a generator that I could manage and would start my caravan air conditioner (old clunker Electrolux CAL 136) McFarlane offered me a few options to actually trial on site. The Cromtech CTG2500i came out on top it has worked well for me for almost two years, Support network around Australia was quite large compared to other manufacturers Great value and quiet. Show details

I have owned mine for over two years. It has been perfectly reliable – Bought from the brilliant Macfarlane Generators in Sydney. Highly recommend these guys. Knowledgeable and fairly priced generators. Paid $850 for mine Does the job brilliantly. Running a couple of coffee roasters and charging phones via the USB ports. Can take a bit of effort to start but that os likely the heavy handed users fault ! Always run on 91 with zero issues but never e10 Five stars from me.  Show details

Worst product ever – Bought this generator on a Saturday afternoon to use for a 1100 watt aircon whilst camping. Did all the checks oil, fuel etc etc started first pull was awesome. 2hrs later was off on an overload, unplugged aircon and just left the baby monitor plugged in. 10 min later overload, reset and tried to start again. This thing was lighting up the… Read more

overload whilst I just pulling to start. Took back to A Mans Toy shop where purchased, not much can be said about their service either. They have tried to tell me that I caused it by using 91 fuel? I don't think so. Just trying to get my money back now as it is a terrible product and didn't even last 3 hrs

Better than a Ryobi and cheaper than a Honda – After battling with my Ryobi RIG2000 which in all honestly was probably the worst piece of equipment I've every bought I eventually settled on this upon recommendation from the sales person. I didn't want to spend big coin on something I was only going to use in emergency situations to run my submerged garage pump when the power goes out during… Read more

storms. It will mainly be sitting in long term storage and prepped ready for the Qld summer storm season. So far so good. Easy to set-up and I can already see that it will be much easier to service than the Ryobi. I generally start the unit once a month if I am not packing it away with fuel stabiliser in the 95 unleaded (as recommended by the service team where I bought it) to keep it lubed and ticking over as well as changing the oil every 6 months. All gens will be temperamental if not looked after especially with the carbi getting gunked up when left unused for long periods of time. It is quieter than the Ryobi and lighter as well. More boxes ticked. Can't use eco mode when running the pump as it uses a lot on startup and kicks in and out regularly when there is heavy rain but so far its doing the job so not the fault of the unit. I'll add to my review once I've had it through its paces.

Great Generator – I have a 34ft motorhome. We camp self contained remote near Karratha and require something that starts and wont stop. Bought this unit second hand hardly used. Ran this Cromtech 2.4 everyday over 6hrs a day for for 5 weeks Ran everything with ease. 2x 20 amp chargers; tv; micro wave when the wife needed it. Handles AC no problem' better than… Read more

my Honda eu 2. Quiet as though has a different exhaust note than the honda when under full load. I used normal unleaded 91 Fuel ' consumption was maybe a little better than my honda. This Generator exceded my expectations and I was impressed with the additional power compared to my Honda. Only Time will tell if it lasts though I have seen a few hondas die and the repair bill has been more than a new Cromtech. For the price they have more power to run more items with ease. I did take my trusty old honda as a spare but it stayed in the compartment the whole trip.

Not happy – Not happy with this. Never been able to run several of my appliances, microwave, kettle, AC. Also become difficult to start after only a handful of uses. Do not recommend the product, just from my own experience. Maybe recieved a lemon? I had a smaller quieter Honda which lasted years and ran everything. It hasn't proven reliable for me.  Show details

Was working great – Was working great, drove the air con in my caravan no problems, a little noisier than I would have liked at full grunt. Biggest problem was the fuel tank split around the seam so was only good for short burst before running out of petrol as could only fill it 1/3rd.  Show details

cromtech outback, nice surprise! – Purchased my Cromtech Outback from L&V Forklifts via EBay for $879 with free shipping. We had a new Honda EU20i prior which was great but it was going to struggle with the new Air Command Cormorant aircon in the caravan. Very happy with the unit, well built, all the outlets are solid and weather protected. Quiet and runs the aircon plus fridge no worries on eco idle. Glad we took the punt.  Show details

Does what it says it does – We bought this on a whim after a cyclone knocked out power. It was literally one of the last gennies in town at that moment so snapped it up without question. It feels solid, starts easily and works well. About as quiet as a Honda too! We had it running for about 4 days straight during the outage and it was fine. Until.. on the third evening… Read more

everything just stopped. I went out to refill fuel but it only took a litre to the 5l tank. We thought it odd. Went to bed to wake at 3:30am with no power. Did the same thing, only took a couple litres and then died within minutes once again. I played with the fuel cap on/off pressure valve and it didn't fail again after that so hoping this was the problem. Otherwise it's a good value for money piece of kit. Has all the same outputs as the Honda for much more except only 1yr warranty vs 4yrs with the Honda.

Very Disappointing – Purchased for free camping purposes. Unit has to run for about 10 minutes before eco mode decides to engage. Runs an engels 40lt fridge and a small tv while alao charging 2 mobile phones and thats about its limit. Wont run a coleman a/c in a 20ft jayco sterling on low cool. Wont even run the a 1300watt output microwave with nothing else connected. For a 2100watt output genny it makes a wonderful boat anchor  Show details

Dose everything they say it dose! – I mostly use my unit for work runs all my refiguration machines, a 1500W air compressor, I can run a catty welder on low and it will even run my 2400W drop saw easy. I have used it camping running 3 engel fridges lights and I get 22hrs out one tank. If i had brought a Honda I would have paid $3000+ to do the same job. Best value genny you can get.  Show details

Mid price standby generator – Bought the generator after the last cyclone. Installed a transfer switch in my meter box. Plugged in the generator. Added about 2l of fuel & it ran all day. Tested it out. Ran most household lights, ceiling fans & microwave. Was not comfortable with the electric jug!. Seems to be a good standby unit with plenty of power for most requirements!… Read more

Would like to run it more, but no real reason to.

Ran it again today. About 7 hrs on 3 l of fuel. Started first pull.

Great buy – Light and quiet. All you could want. Australia wide service network. May not be as good as a yamaha but 10 kgs lighter, just as quiet and $1000+ less. If I was going to use a generator every day for months on end then yes I'd buy a yamaha ..... Update. 12/2017 On my first use the invertor failed. Took back under warranty and they immediately… Read more

blamed bad fuel for the generator not starting. Some weeks later they admitted it was not the fuel but a failure of the invertor. The first time they had encounted this after selling "thousands" (their words). Bottom line they gave me a new generator so I'm happy about that. Still believe it's a good gen set, I was just unlucky to get a faulty one.

Awesome generator at an awesome price – I live on Scotland Island and from time to time storms come a trees take down our power lines. I've previously owned a HONDA 2.0 EU which I foolishly sold last year. When the power was taken out yet again last March I went to the same dealer to buy another Generator. The result was the Cromtech 2500i. At half the price and the same output as the… Read more

Honda I was sceptical. But not any more! I ran a modem, 65" 4k TV, fridge, two desktop computers, 2 laptops and the first night started it up at 5pm and expected it would be stopped next morning. It ran all night on one tank and was still going at 8am. Added another 3.5L of fuel (yes it still had some in the tank and left it going while I went to work. When I got back over 8hrs later it was still going with almost half a tank to go. AWESOME is the only word I can use for this generator.

A must in South Australia! – Yes I live in SA (we have excellent wine, but a lousy power supply). I picked up the Cromtech Outback in Melbourne (had difficulty finding a SA supplier - def a business opportunity for someone). Its first trial was when the power was off for 15 hours yesterday - no problems. Connected the fridge/freezer, fan, light, modems (kids would have… Read more

gone crazy without internet), and small TV. All good & no probs. Certainly chugs when boiling the jug! Seemed to use 5lt of fuel after the first 7 hours. So a fridge and freezer full of food saved. Easy to start. I am sure I will get to use it a few more times here in beautiful SA!!!

A Value For Money Inverter Generator That Works As Well As It Looks & Backed By Nation Wide Crommeli – I unpacked my Cromtech CTG2500i 2400w Inverter Generator, read instructions, filled with synthetic SAE10-40, (my choice), & 0.5L of fuel as instructed, second pull of the starter cord & all was good! hour which equates to 5 hours running on a full tank of fuel, I think that's very good!!

Generator is a very quiet unit so no problem with excess noise to upset neighbours!

I then set-up for purpose Generator was purchased for, ran ext. lead into house & connected fridge, freezer, lighting, fans & even a TV to fully test that unit would supply as required when I next have an extended power outage, the Generator met, even exceeded my expectations, very happy with my purchase!
