Another good buy – Bought second hand $165 Initially it would revert to 'Audio in' channel after 5mins which was super uncool but after I factory reset it no further issues. This is my first sound bar and I had always imagined my first sound bar would be rubbish on my budget, but I was wrong. This little power house has changed our tv experience. I even use it to play music on the sound on. Show details · 1
Loved it but it stopped working after 2 years -$268 to fix!! – I had exactly the same experience. I loved this sound bar, excellent sound and it worked so well. Suddenly it stopped working. After disconnection and reconnection it worked for perhaps 30 seconds to a minute each time I did that. It was two years old. Took it to a repairer, paid $55 for a quote. The quote came back (after them waiting for… Read more
Philips to get back to them on a part price) at $268.00 for the repair!! I didn't even go back and get it--pointless throwing good money after bad. Bought a Sony this time.
Ok sound for the price – I find the most important thing when reviewing a product is your expectations, or more importantly are they realisitic? Let's start with the price for this soundbar, approx $260. Considering the price point, this is a pretty good soundbar, minimal distortion and good base and tone delivered consistently. I've had this soundbar for about 10… Read more
months. Does it deliver mind blowing sound that enhances your viewing? No. If you're wanting that kind of sound you'll need to spend 3 or 4 times the money.
Does it deliver good, deep, accurate sound that fills an average sized room adequately, yes it does.

It was working fine until – Hi, I bought one a few months ago and it was all good. When I recently got the new Iphone7 the bluetooth connection started playing up, sound breaking up and making noises. The only way that's not too bad is if I leave the iphone very close to the soundbar. Anything more than 30 cm messes up the connection. Wanted to know how to fix this? I really enjoy the quality and wanted to keep it. Thanks. Mauricio Show details

Excellent product - Value for money – Bought it 2 yrs back , absolutely love it. I compared few products in this price range and found it the best value with amazing sound quality. crystal clear sound with heavy bass. supports all type of interfacing - Bluetooth , HDMI ARC , Optical , 3MM aux jack ( though you may want to avoid aux due to obvious reason). You can play media from your USB stick as well. Tried with portable HDD of 1TB, no dramas. Show details · 1
Sound crackles - cuts out totally after 30 secs or less – Like others on here - unit worked well for 15-18 months - but no longer works. Sound crackles and cuts out after 30 seconds - internal circuitry issue - speaker drivers are OK. Have tried all different inputs optical, aux, rca, etc. Turned off for months. I spoke to "Customer Service" who it said was out of warranty and can't be fixed - and my view is that warranty does not affect statutory rights under Australian Consumer Law.

Was great while it worked, but lucky to get 30 sec at a time now – Tried new optical cable a few times, tried it through the PC, tried changing inputs, replaced remote batteries, cleaned up subwoofer cable ends, tried everything and spent money where I thought it might help, but nothing. Shame as it was good while it worked, and well priced. Lasted probably 8 months. Loud popping/crackling before cutting out, works only after a power cycle, and then not for long.

Great for the first 18 months then continuous issues – Speakers and subwoofer performed great for the price. After a year the unit started to get intermittent issues with crackling and then no sound. Replaced the optical cable and switched inputs, however the issue persisted. A power cycle would sometimes fix the problem but certainly not ideal when watching tv or listening to music. Will have difficulty trusting the Philips brand after this product.

Frustrating – Was very happy with the performance... until the first few crackles then silence. Crap. Couldn't believe it so retried many times. I'm not looking forward to the support line run around. At least this "discontinued" Christmas gift lasted out the day. Not the quality expected from Phillips. Industry standard now?

Worked well --for a time Ditto – Exactly the same experience as Chasbe. Product is of similar age. Each time I turn it off and check all connections and turn back on it goes for a while. But never for long an hour or two then Snap Crackle Pop.Can understand why it is now discontinued. Won't buy another Philips. Philips may of course believe that their products are well built given that they do just get past warranty.

Worked well --for a time – It was easy to assemble and produced a good sound, but 14 months on it has stopped functioning sound crackled and cuts out a couple of minutes, or less, after being turned on. Tried connecting other than the optical cable but to no avail. Anybody else come across this problem

Good sound – Bought it today from D/Smith on special after Xmas. Easy to assemble and connect. Haven't heard the sub woofer as yet , as I have only had a short time Would recommend it anyone. Show 4 replies
Find out how Philips HTL2150/79 compares to other Soundbars
Know better, choose better.
I wanted to like this product – I was excited to this product on sale at Officeworks having read mostly good reviews about it. The 'surround' button simple adds an echo to everything, so i switched that off and it sounded reasonable. The remote on the unit I had didn't work at all and even if it did work, it was so amazingly flimsy that I could see it being broken fairly… Read more
soon anyway.
The build quality is very average. The sub woofer is hard wired with the thinnest speaker cable you can imagine and way too short for anyone who wants the speaker in another part of the room to spread the sound out a bit.
The switching between inputs is very vague. There is one light that shares 3 functions so you can really tell what input you are on.
Overall a very disappointing purchase.
The sound itself was just OK - marginally better than the built in speakers on my LG 50 inch TV.
Thankfully Officeworks have a no questions asked return policy so I took it back less than 2 hours later. Nice design Faulty remote, vague switching, average sound

Ticks all of the boxes for a value foe money set up – Bought this system from Dick Smith @ an online sale for $121. Normally $199 plus delivery. I would suggest for anyone to buy this unit as it has a quality sound in just watching tv or DVD and Bigpond movies. Pity about the system resets itself when power is turned off but thats for protection of the speakers. Dont waste a lot of $$$$ on the so called top end units. The auto reseting of the volume. Great Sound for Its price – Got this speaker for half price ($99) in DickSmith recently. The set up was relatively easy and offered quite good range of (traditional) connectivities: analog, Coxial etc tho lack in HDMI. The sound is clear and definitely worth its price. THe dialogue of TV shows is crisper and clearer. Of course, i cant compare this with other more expensive… Read more
sound bars from SONY, Samsung etc. but it is what it is (compact, budget-friendly), it is definitely worth every penny..... Recommended as a budget soundbar with reasonable sound! Compact, cheap No HDMI, somehow "cheap"looking
Good sound for little money – Small compact, yet packs a good punch, brought this from dick smiths to improve the sound from my LG TV, the sub produces good base, while the system is not overly loud it does produce good quality sound at the right price point, overall i am very happy with this unit Good quality sound Does not come with optical cable, so make sure u either buy one, or have one spare at home
Poor documentation – I bought this sound bar from Dick Smiths and was assured it would work on any TV. I connected it up, as per instructions, but could get no sound from the speakers. I returned it the same day but had some trouble convincing the salespeople of the problem. I did, however, get offered a replacement and asked to buy a dedicated cable for this unit. … Read more
After many hours of connecting via a variety of cables and 3 different TV's, I could still get no sound. I then tried an Optical cable.....Bingo. Should one be expected to outlay a further sizeable sum of money ($39) in order to get something to work. There was no mention anywhere on the box or leaflet that an Optical connection was required. Not Happy Jan! Not expensive. Reasonable sound. Unobtrusive. Major confusion over connections. Poor instruction leaflet.
Some TV's won't output sound via the digital connections until set up in the sound menu ie… Read more (+2 replies)
