Same Boat – I bought one to take in the caravan camping as my little van is a bit pokey. I did a roast chicken (without instructions) first up but it took just as long as a normal oven. It was juicy and delicious though. I have tried a lamb roast as well, again no quicker than a webber BBQ, but I think the error I was making was not pre-heating the oven first, and having the temp too low as I have now gleaned from other web sites. On a plus side, great for camping which is why I bought it, so easy to clean The Aldi oven comes with no instructions so its trial and error all the way. I wont let it beat me though as I have friends who have them and swear by them.
From what I have read it turns off when it reaches the desired heating then turns back on when it starts to drop in temperature
I bought one today and mine turns on and off every thirty seconds all the way through the cooking. I thought it might be an error
No mine does the same turns off and on all the time too :0
I am disappointed in mine. A roast that would take 1 1/2 hours in the normal oven took over 2 hours and still wasn't cooked properly (same size roast). The vegies were inedible. It says in the book that a cake can take approx 15 mins. It took longer than the packet recommended for the normal oven!!!! The disco light is annoying too!
Have just started to use mine but like other reports my light turns off and on every thirty seconds or so....is this right?
It's controlled by the thermostat. Thermostats are really sensitive to heat variations these days, so I find the light useful to know when the oven is at the right cooking temperature.
Flippa58 — sounds like you're setting the temperature too low. Try increasing it.
Just got one secondhand looks to be unused, being older and a reasonable cook, and well you have to try:-) I have just thrown a Xmas cake in mine, from other web pages I noted they complained of outside cooked inner not, seemingly sponge/packet cakes? so reduce the heat and allow longer for more even cooking, and I am using a wire round cake cooler rack to sit my springform pan on rather then the steamer? perforated base for better all round airflow. I have it at 125C for the full hour available, will test at the hr mark and judge then the MAX power use is between 1200 to 1400 watts so theres NO WAY these use more power than a standard oven that sucks 3,600 watts or so and heats a far larger area with some loss on door opening etc. after seeing a girlfriend do a superb scotch fillet roast I decided I would grab one when I saw them affordable, so I did:-) with yet another 30c a day in service/supply charges by Powercorp announced this week be damned if I will be using my big oven much anymore even off peak. and the lumina pressure cooker dropped my power bill by $50 a month immediately. thanks Lumina and Aldi:-) merry xmas to all. Laurel
Update, mine was in storage for 2 years, until I bought a new camper. Took it away, plugged it in and cooked a roast rack of lamb and veg in under an hour, no problems @ 180. Threw in some dishwashing liquid and hot water, set it to clean cycle, tipped it out and wiped it with paper towel, too easy. Can't believe it's still going after all the times I lugged it about in the back of the ute in the past.
