WARNING to everybody!!!!’n Product Dark Oak HLS Just to state I have been using this product on various jobs for 30 years The new stain mix is… Read more

RUBBISH total RUBBISH! It looks more like pine than Dark Oak!!!! I took delivery from 2 separate suppliers just to check and both suppliers said this is the new colour of Dark Oak! So I’m now stuck with 2 x 5ltr cans of CR^P!!!!!! I sent both suppliers photos of many different jobs using the OLD Dark Oak in the old style cans and the new colour is NOTHING like it and my customers of over 30 years agreed with me!!! I’ve now lost money because the customer refused the colour of the new stain!

AVOID Sikkins because whatever they’ve done they’ve cheapened an amazing product line by changing the contents to a cheaper RUBBISH product!!!

I have attached a photo of the new can contents and the old can contents side by side and you can clearly see the new product is like pine AND NOT Dark Oak which is clearly visible in the old can. The stirring sticks clearly show the new rubbish colour is pine in its colour!

Also you can clearly see in the photos the colour of the door using the OLD mixture is completely different to tne new RUBBISH pine colour

The second photo is from Wood Finishes Direct product analyst dept. who used 2 coats of the new RUBBISH product and is telling me this is Dark Oak, which it obviously is not!!

Sticky paint after 3 days – The product is very easy to use and apply. Just mix it well to ensure there is no sediment left at the bottom of the can. I did good sanding of my… Read more

deck before applying. Applied 3 coats of the Cetol BLX Pro - teak for my merbau deck (since merbau colour is not available) with a good quality deck paint brush. The second coat was applied 3 hours after the first coat and third coat on the next day.

However, after applying, it feels more like a paint than a deck oil. I applied it while the temperature was around 29-30 degrees. 3 days past the final coat with consistently warm weather, without rain, the deck still feels sticky to touch. Leaves marks of heavy items on the deck.

And worse, I could not find a customer care contact for Sikkens in Australia.

-------- Updated after 3 days ----------

Three days after the initial review, upgraded the rating of the product to 4 stars from 3. Not giving 5 stars due to lack of customer support in Australia and lack of documents/instructions in English.

After a couple of days of hot and cold weather, the deck now feels good! I guess it was a matter of time before the oil gets settled on the timber. Sikkens should update their instruction with a suggested realistic time for settlement of the product on timber. This would help to set the right expectation.

Meanwhile, I cleaned the deck with detergent and water to remove the stickiness. Water beads well and the deck is not tacky anymore. The medium sheen looks elegant.
