about three years or 40,000km out of them. It turns out that was 2018, well before the COVID lockdowns. So 6.5 years and 75,000km later, the mechanic has only just told me they're getting low and it's time to replace. I'm not someone who runs their tyres down, but it's just a case of time flying and the tyres not having given us any issues. I guessed they were put on about 40,000km ago, but was completely wrong.
They've been nothing but grip and reliability in that time. I'm replacing them with the same model.

Didn't last the distance – Tires performed very well in wet and dry but only got 18k kilometers out of them. And no, despite them being on a SS commodore, they were not abused not even once. Would have got on estimate another 10k but one delaminated so that sealed their fate. Show details

Dangerous in the wet – These tyres are cheap and not good quality replacements. There is worse out there, but generally they are average at best in the dry, and utterly dangerous and terrible in the wet. I would not recommend these tyres to anyone. Show details

Tesla/EV?" thing is all just bunk - choose your quality tyre with correct speed/weight spec and off you go. The 520s are, on first impressions a good replacement. Steering is direct, they can handle the grunt, they stick well in wet and dry, and they are reasonably quiet like the Pirellis they replaced. They look great - the Pirellis were 235 and I've put 245 yet they still edge inwards on the tyre wall - they're a good looking tyre on the 20" rim. Seems my energy consumption is higher, could be my heavy foot on the new rubber and I believe Bob Jane fitters configured the car computer correctly after fitting. I'll update in 6 months or so but at this stage the 520s are recommended - car feels great under all conditions so far - but we'll see re mileage and compound wear.

and the 520 model, but at about $170 each it was an easy choice.
Originally was looking at PS5, RE003, AD09, MC7, but the price on those are almost double, so decided to give these a go instead in 235/40/18.
First impression, the drop in road noise is seriously noticeable. Same highway run over the weekend and the cabin is way quieter. Even in a 90s car you can feel the difference. Now I can actually hear more of my exhaust than tyre noise, which says a lot.
Have not tested in the wet yet, will update later once I do.
Cornering wise, feels about the same as the P609 when it was new. Maybe slightly better but that could just be because these are fresh and the old ones were basically on the wear bar. Still, confidence is there.
Ride comfort over bumps is pretty similar too, even though I went from 45 series to 40 series, so no real complaints there.
Treadwear is rated at 320 same as the P609, so hopefully these last a lot longer and keep the noise down over time. Will see how they go with some spirited driving.
