Miele’s website and requested a service. They referred on to a 3rd party authorised repairer. 3rd party repairer diagnosed issue but wasn’t interested in repairing said it was a difficult job. Range hood wasn’t fixed and still working intermediately.
This year, we went on Google and searched the question about the average useful life of a range hood and was quoted 15 years average.
Miele being an expensive premium brand, we expected the Miele Rangehood to function well for at least the average of 15 years at minimum. Well in my case fault started at year 7.
We reached out to Miele this year in 2024 and requested assistance to cover under Australian Consumer Law and was straight out refused. Miele customer service says the manufacturer’s warranty is only covering for 2 years and would not go further to assist. All repairs would be in owners cost.

Miele DA2360 rangehood never worked properly and blew up - terrible product – My mother moved into her new apartment in March 2019 in the Gold Coast. All the apartment block was fitted with Miele appliances. The agent was keen… Read more
to big-note the Miele brand as a selling point.
The kitchen was fitted with Miele appliances including a DA2360 undermount rangehood. From the outset the range hood NEVER worked properly. The lights worked fine but the exhaust fans would only work intermittently, turning off after just a few minutes. Turning the power off and back on failed to work and it would mean having to wait maybe an hour or so to try again. The product was never fit for purpose. Eventually, it was discovered that several other unit owners in the same block also had problems with their Miele rangehoods. The building manager arranged for Miele service technicians to attend and fix all the faulty appliances. The technician came and attended to our rangehood. It was tended to under warranty at the time.
After the technician left the same issue remained. I left overseas and my poor mother was on the onset of Parkinson's disease and her cognitive decline meant she was too overwhelmed to attend to getting the Miele rangehood serviced. I was unaware that my mother had deteriorated at that point.
Upon my return to care for my mother, I discovered the Miele rangehood was still useless, like it was from the very first day mum moved into her apartment.
I contacted Miele service centre to attempt to have someone come out to fix the rangehood. By this time the warranty had expired. I tried arguing the valid case that the appliance was never fit for purpose and if it could be fixed as a manufacturing defect. The lady on the other end refused to budge and claimed we would need to pay for a call-out fee and a service technician to look at it and make a decision if it was a defect or not. Due to the cost of the call-out fee plus the lady's quoted technician fee per 15 minutes, we decided to leave it at the time.
I returned to Australia later and was cooking in the kitchen. Because the rangehood did not work properly this caused build up of smoke in the apartment at times and caused the fire alarms to be set off. This was frustrating and distressful. I tried turning on the exhaust fan one night whilst cooking something (frying some food). The fan turned on briefly followed by a huge 'bang'. The power turned off in the whole unit. We were left without power the whole night and into the next day until an electrician attended. He had to access an external circuit breaker at significant cost to mum. The source of the small explosion was the range hood. We had the range hood unplugged as it was considered a dangerous appliance now.
Mum tried to get by without the rangehood despite the inconvenience.
In 2024 I returned to Australia and it was then that the Miele dishwasher broke down after 5 years of low level use. Mum and I arranged for Miele service technician to attend to fix the dishwasher and at the same time look at the rangehood (since the call-out fee would cover both). The technician thought the problem was from an electronic component attached to the circuit board. The technician returned and replaced a circuit part. He connected the rangehood and a small 'pop' was hear and the power cut out, tripping the power board circuit breakers. He determined it was in fact the fan motor/s were the problem. We were quoted over $700 for the fan motors to be replaced. Due to the cost, the fact that it would only be covered for 12 months (or 2 years cannot recall exactly) it was decided at that point not to proceed. Mum and I had lost confidence in Miele appliances working long enough to be worth the expense. And it is expensive.
I had called Miele prior the the technician attending the last time asking yet again that the rangehood be replaced without charge as it was NEVER fit for purpose, has cost mum from the short circuit when the fans blew up and inconvenienced her for years. Miele only offered a discount on parts.
Miele claims to be a superior product on the market, but this experience has left us with a very sour taste. All along this appliance was useless. Never worked properly and basically just sat there doing nothing after giving up trying to use it. Miele couldn't fix it the first time. The fact that a whole block of units had dodgy rangehoods installed needing Miele to attend to several says a lot. Miele in my opinion is very overpriced, poor quality and their customer service is poor. The service technicians are not to blame. It is Miele. Don't buy Miele. A claimed superior product with inferior quality and customer service. They have never proved otherwise.
Now we are stuck with a hole above the stove with dimensions that are not standard to many other range hood appliances that we would prefer to replace it with. The developer must have struck a deal with Miele when designing the kitchens and cut the hole to specifications for Miele. The dimension of the hole is 57cm x 28cm but other rangehoods we have now looked at are in the 52cm and 60cm lengths and varying widths that either fall short or exceed the hole.
So we are stuck with a dead Miele appliance. We don't know what to do. Miele do not care about the outcome for us. Disgusting outcome and my poor disabled mother cannot take up the battle and I am overseas a lot. And Miele is a huge multibillion dollar company owned by the Miele and Zinkann families. You can do better.
