Foreo Luna 3 – I am a huge fan of Clarisonic, and I was devastated by the discontinuing of their products due to the closure of the company. So I set out to search… Read more

for a good replacement.

The reason why I settled on the Foreo Luna 3 is the long battery life, and the prospect of never having to replace the brush heads was deeply attractive to me. It can be used for more than 600 times on one charge, so assuming I only use it for washing my face once in the morning and once at night time, the battery will last me around 10 months. Not to mention not having to carry an extra charging cable when I travel - we carry enough of those as it is. With the plus of having app guided massage function, it seemed like it is well worth the money.

That is what I thought until I actually brought one home, charged and tried to use it for the first time. The silicon brush is very soft and it feels really nice on my face. The size, density and the fineness of the "hair" on the devices differs between models aimed at different skin types. I chose the blue one because of my combination skin. Upon trying to use it for the first time, I followed the directions on the app, and found a serious problem. Unlike the long flexible brush heads like ones used for a Clarisonic, the silicon hairs on the Luna 3 are extremely short and the device it self is hardly flexible, making them quite difficult to maneuver around curvatures of my nose. Being Asian, there is a dip from the middle of my nose to the point between the eyebrows which is a spot very easily missed, the inflexible Luna 3 makes it very awkward to clean this part. In the end I resorted to holding the device up-side-down and use the pointed end to reach the spot, and flattening my nose to one side to run the brush over each side. I often finding myself using my fingers to make sure it is clean afterwards, because with I have an oil field for a T Zone I need to make damn sure it is clean or suffer the consequences of one or two pimples to greet me a few days later.

While the problem above didn't really deter me from continued use of the Luna 3, the massage functions feels quite nice and I did see some improvements around my eyes.

They weren't kidding about the battery life, it lasted for so long I misplaced the charger cord twice. I used it on and off for around 2 years, and then one day when I connected to it with the app after a few months long hiatus I found the battery level to be very low, so I charged it overnight, only to find that after a whole 8 hours of charging, the app still indicated the extremely low level. I didn't think much of it, perhaps it was a bug on the app or something, until it completely died during use a few days later. It was then I realised that it did not charge at all, so I tried again. I made sure the light at the bottom has stopped blinking, and checked it against the app again. Power level was still indicating red. I was unable to charge the battery on it at all! Paying over $300 I did expect something to last a lot longer than this.

It has been over 2 years and out of warranty, so there was nothing I could really do.

Except to find new ways to clean my face, and I found that instead of holding what feels like a weak vibrator to my face, I now have added chemical exfoliation, double cleansing and enzyme cleansers in my arsenal. My skin now feels a lot better and the pores no longer gape in summer.

during a treatment. After much emailing and providing of photos and videos Foreo "agreed" to replace it (lets not get into Australian consumer rights here where they have to replace faulty goods and its not up to them to "agree") The replacement gives me constant electric shocks. We are talking next level pain here - like unusable level of pain. For $359 I expect better. At this point I want a refund because I am so unhappy with the product. This doesn't even take into account you have to link the product to your phone through their app to even use it!
