Watch out 3 Prong – My reason for buying this amazing car was based on automotive industry cultures, customer support and historical reputation of certain 'brands'. This purchase would be my last car, so I did not want to end my driving life with a lemon or anything close to that...accepting it not a perfect world. I whittled down the brand's to two after cutting Mercedes, reputation for poor support, Lexus as being just outside my budget and Jaguar....again due to poor reputation for customer support and the detailed finish to their vehicles lag behind others mentioned. The BMW 4 Gran Tour is a great car and was really close to getting my vote and BMW Adelaide were really professional in their response to my enquiries but in the end the Genesis just offered so much value for money it's just silly. The finish of the build is superb in so many areas, even those out of normal view. The paint lustre looks insane from any angle. Creature comforts inside are just too long to list but when your dash pops up a logo with a cup of coffee on the screen telling you it may be a good idea to take a break from driving after 2.5hrs..that's the cherry on top..lol. This is a 3.8L V6 that returns 8.2L/100.....no joke! On a recent trip to Brisbane and back we averaged 7L/100...fantastic for a 2 ton car. The ride is quiet, sooper smooth and the interior design and appointment lack nothing (for most folk). To those thinking about buying a mid priced luxury brand of vehicle I would strongly suggest you test drive a Genesis, new or low mileage second hand. Many professional motor reviewer's commonly praise the Genesis but also grumble about the fuel economy stating 11L/100? I guess they must thrash the test cars. The other common gripe from the Auto press is the interior design is a little old school.....well I like a bit of retro class , I don't need to sit inside a Techno Xbox on wheels. You may find second hand Genesis's a bit limited in number on the Aussie market but if you persevere like me, have patience you will end up with a great car manufactured by a company that is very attentive and supporting, unlike so many others in the market that go tone deaf after the sale.

Poor Hyundai care and service – Bought Hyundai Genesis at Chadstone Hyundai in December, 2016. Now the battery is dead, oxidated and Battery Sensor Assembly part damaged. The process of oxidation is slow and took at list 24 months if not more to completely damage the battery and the Sensor. Hyundai refused to cover the repairs arguing it is over 24 months of warranty and I was charged for new battery and extra $640 for extra parts and laubor. I bought $70,000 worth car and the faulty battery was installed there by the company and became faulty even within the factory battery warranty and only the discovery of the fault was postponed over the warranty period. This car should be free of any fault in total for many more years than stipulated by Hyundai.

Incredible car – I have had 2016 Hyundai Genesis for 10 months and have loved it from the first day. I had been looking for a used low kms Audi, BMW or Mercedes but am so glad I purchased the Genesis. It more than competes in every way. I live in S.A but bought the car in Victoria as there only one dealer who sells them here & I received a really good deal from Doncaster Hyundai. I would highly recommend this car & the guys at Doncaster to anyone.

World Class car – I have owned a 2015 Hyundai Genesis for 15 months and covered 25000km in that time. I had been shopping for a used low kms Audi, BMW or Mercedes after driving my daughter's new Mercedes C250 Coupe, and saw this car in a Hyundai dealer yard in Canberra. From a distance side on I thought it was a traded 7 series BMW, and when I realised my mistake I was about to leave the yard when the salesman made a curious claim. He said 'Give me five minutes to sell you this car. I will not take your name or phone number unless at the end of my pitch you are interested in purchasing the car.' He took only five minutes and a test drive to convince me it was a better value for money car than the German marques, for the following reasons.

It had the highest ANCAP safety rating of any motor vehicle ever assessed in Australia at the time of purchase (and may still have).

All service costs for the first five years are free.

Roadside assist in the event of mechanical problems is free.

After five years, service costs are a set price before the service.

Service schedules are annually or at 15000km intervals.

During the test drive, it was considerably more comfortable, smoother and quieter than my daughter's Mercedes.

Some pertinent points.

The sticker on the windscreen stated that average fuel consumption is 11.2 litres per 100km, which was of some concern to me. I have averaged 8.7!

I bought the car intending to tow a small caravan, only to be told after purchase that Hyundai will not fit a towbar to the Genesis due to it's luxury car status. This is the only big minus for me. It is a 1900 plus kg rear wheel drive 230kw car which should be ideal as a tow car.

The HID headlights are nowhere near as illuminating as the Zenon lights of the Skoda Superb I owned previously.

The front seats are nowhere near as cosseting as those of the Skoda Superb, I think because it is aimed at the US market, for larger stature drivers and passengers.

I was a Commonwealth Car driver for many years up to 2008, hence my preference for a larger car. The quality of the Genesis is immeasurably superior to the Fairlanes and Statesmans I drove. It may not have achieved the standards of the German brands, but is very close, much less expensive to purchase and maintain, and with ride, handling and quietness in many ways superior. It lacks the sharpness of handling of the German cars, but Hyundai have concentrated on comfort and quietness. It will accelerate from 0_100kph in 6.6 seconds, only .1 of a second slower than the Subaru WRX, so overtaking can be done quickly, safely and confidently.

It has so many safety, performance and luxury features that I cannot list them all here and it is easier for the reader to look these up online. However, several little touches that really appealed for their novelty are the rear window blind to keep the sun off the rear passengers, the projector image onto the ground from underneath the external rearview mirrors of the Genesis logo and the amazing Lexicon sound system as supplied to Rolls Royce. Oh, and the rear seat passengers are able to select via the controls on the rear centre armrest the radio channel, the internal temperature, and the distance of the front passenger seat in relation to the left rear passenger. This feature is of course can be overidden by the driver if necessary.

I am 71, and I have driven for over 8 hours with only fuel and refreshment stops on a number of occasions and arrived fresh at the end. These are amazingly relaxing cars for long distance driving.

Prologue to Genesis ownership. I sold this car two weeks ago. It wasn't advertised, just kept in as new condition, and someone asked if I would sell it. I owned it for over two and a half years, so I still passed on to the new owner two and a half years' warranty. I sold it because I could not fit a towbar to it, as I mentioned in the original review. It was the best car I have ever owned and probably will always be. I averaged 8.7 litres per 100km over the 2.5 years, fantastic for a big car. In the time I owned it, covering around 34,000km, what I appreciated most was the quiet, smooth ride, the easy loping style over long distances, the feeling of strength of the build and the excellent service provided by the Hyundai dealership in Canberra, National Capital Motors. I purchased a 2012 Falcon tow car for my Avan about a year ago, so have owned two cars in that period. I did not want to sell the Genesis, but commonsense and a keen prospective buyer solved that. I have purchased a new VW Tiguan to replace both the Genesis and Falcon and will write an initial review of the Tiguan shortly.
