Aden + Anais Serenity Star

Ridiculous – None of the features advertised work properly, volume would be like putting my newborn (and us) to sleep through a rock concert in the lowest setting. AbsokutelY ridiculous quality, can’t even sell it second hand as I wouldn’t have the courage to, wondering how they have the courage to ask $90 out of this. Out to the rubbish it goes.
Purchased at Australis for $90.
Useful but poor quality – Have only had this item less than 3mo and the connection hole is no longer functioning and I am unable to plug the star in. When working this star was quite useful and I used to white noise and temperature gauge often.
Purchased in for $90.
Fundamental Design Flaw – Unfortunately I didn't read the previous review before purchasing the Serenity Star. It certainly looks nice, but behind that outer appearance lies a ridiculously poor design flaw. I plugged it in behind a chest of drawers, so can't readily access the power point, and guess what, there's no way apart from at the power source that the light can be turned off. So you must either leave it on 24/7, or switch it off at the power point, in which case you'll then need to reset the clock and temperature setting (which defaults to Fahrenheit) every time you switch it back on.
To the credit of Aden + Anais, they responded quickly when I complained, and offered first a replacement (ah, no thanks, that will have the same flaw), and then a refund. They were, however, decidedly stubborn about admitting to the design fault.
I strongly suggest you steer clear of this product to save yourself some frustration at the lack of common sense design.
A simple product done poorly – For $90 I am amazed this product is so poor. - light cant be turned off without unplugging - Light cant be dimmed - option to just have white light doesn't exist / red light is an ANGRY RED - sounds are rubbish / not nice and too few - sounds switch off and on abruptly which is startling / should have fade - sound volume doesn't go low enough ... It has a light and makes sound. The sounds and the light
Overpriced, but has been very handy – I purchased the serenity sleep star when I was looking for a night light for our baby. It also appealed to me that it doubled as a thermometer for the room, as, like any new mum, I was paranoid about my baby being too hot or too cold. It also has other features such as recording the last time and side for feeds and two lullaby modes, white noise or a heart beat. I have found that the thermometer my not be 100% accurate (an old fashioned thermometer gives the reading 1 - 2 degrees warmer) and when the room is too hot the red glow isn't very bright so my son will freak out if he wakes up as his room is pitch black. The lullabys are a bit painful, they could have chosen nicer, and in the middle of the night I'm not quite with it enough to record the time/side of feeding. However, all n all I'm happy with it. It also takes batteries too so it is great to take with you while travelling. Good as a night light, room temperature Room temperature can be a little out, lullabys aren't the best
