Alcatel One Touch 20.01

Not the best nor the worst – This product is what it claims to be. that is its greatest downfall. it has decent graphics for its size but its screen is far too tiny for day to day usage. It can call, text and can play snake. listen to the radio and take pictures. and that is it. just that, everything else is pretty much pointless to use. the "internet" is not the internet. is good for its practicality so you could give it to your child saying it's their new phone if you want them to burst into tears in either happiness or utter disappointment
Alcatel one touch 20.01 seniors made 2013 – My Alcatel one touch 20.01 seniors is excellent, battery in standby last one month, I am sorry that it is a 2G, but I'll wait till August to see if it works with optus service, if doesn't the I will descontinue it. though inside it is written N A3G, I am not sure the meaning of N A3G Show details
Just found out it is a 2G phone and will soon stop working – Just heard from Vodaphone they will discontinue the 2G end of March. (Telstra stopped end of last year) Because it still works (March 2017) incorrectly assumed it was 3G / 4G compatible - whoops. Sorry if I mislead anyone. Pity because it really was a good product. Oh well looks like another $100 down the drain. Show details
Now we Know – We were not advised of Optus/Virgin making changes and this will soon be outdated as only 2GB, and 4GB required for update. Apart from that the big buttons were great and this phone good for emergencies, all we wanted it for It looks nice, is easy to read and I liked the 'tunes' Show details
Do NOT buy ALCATEL One Touch phone – The battery gets flat really quickly compared to other phones. If you have it in your pocket, it can easily 'pocket dial' to any place ! The SIM card keeps getting 'uninstalled' so then you have to shut it down, clean the SIM card and restart again. This has already happened to me three times. I will never buy this brand again, and will go for a Nokia phones in the future. Do NOT buy this phone, or you will regret it. Show details
2g – I was sold this phone for my brother as a 3g phone . Not happy with BigW. Phone seams ok does what he needs as he is sight impaired. He is able to use. It's screens are clear. Just annoyed that now we have to buy another phone. No happy Jan!!!!!! Show details
Altcatel one touch 20.01 for seniors – I did purchase Alcatel 20.01 few weeks ago. I am not happy at all, needs to be recharged sometime three times daily, also can't change ring tone at all, not easy to use, I wouldn't recomend this phone, very hard to use, need to be recharged so many times daily, despite not to be used at all Show details
Excellent for my 89 year old Dad! – My Dad took to this Mobile really well! He makes all of his calls on it, without sny issues at all. Just disappointed that it operates on 2G network, which is being phased out on Dec 1st. I need help in finding as good a mobile on the 3G network now!
Very poor phone – Not at all user friendly. Have had much superior phones in the past. If it was supposed to be designed for seniors, it failed. Would not recommend for any user let alone seniors. It is very difficult to see the numbers and letters. These are wearing off and I haven't had the phone that long.
Not a good phone – My phone is seven months old and when it was working (which it no longer does) it would often tell me that it was 'searching" , so no connection. When it finally stopped working I was sent a new battery but even after charging, it is still not operating. The Alacatel Sydney number is shown as 0291464436 but at 3.45pm today there was no-one there… Read more
to answer my call.
To sum up - the phone is not a particularly good one and the after sales service leaves a lot to be desired.
7 months old, no longer receives calls – This phone stopped working and since it was purchased at Dick Smith, I have to go through Alcatel. After ringing three different numbers and waiting 15 mins, I finally got to speak to someone who palmed me off to a third party where I have to post the phone interstate for assessment. What am I supposed to do without a phone for at least 2 weeks??? They couldn't care less.
Doesn't use your credits at all – Have tried leaving the phone on for extended periods and doesn't use up your call credits all (checked my balance online and still the same) You might have some dodgy premium rate number set to dial automatically installed. Once you get it set up properly (remove predictive text and set the correct weather city up) it's rather a nice phone. I'm sorry I said all those mean things about it earlier !
actual seniors mobile phone is really for seniors – The phone is well designed for seniors whose do not have precise finger and hand control. Not a touch screen phone and it comes with a charging cradle so you do not have to fit an impossible small plug into a similar size phone socket. White so you can see it in your hand bag -small enough for woman's blouse pocket contrary to reports on the… Read more
internet - the weather app in my version was disabled so the phone did not eat up prepaid or pay as you go data -just to keep the weather information current minute to minute.
The batter last a long time in standby mode. But I put the charing cradle near the front door so once I go in the house or out the door the phone is ready always charged.
the SIM card is medium size that is micro size NOT nano but I would have preferred Standard size which is the largest SIM car size. It also takes a SD card to store photos. Useful if you need to show a photo of something that needs fixing. The dedicated SOS button is a good feature and if you use it you can program for 000 and the person(s) (up to three other numbers) who would want to know when you fall or something worse.
The phone comes with button to turn on a tourch a useful feature if there are no street lights at night.
Most of all accidental phone calls can be avoided by a slide switch on the side - so when my phone is in my pocket. Pressure from normal movement like walking will not activate trephine to make a call without you knowledge. This is important if you use the speed dial feature - ie where one button is programmed to a given phone number so to make it easier to make fast call.
Yes the manual is a problem but it can be accessed on the actual web site and somehow there must be a way of getting it to print BIG - but even then the instruction are no great an does tell you what you need to know about the phone. It is trial and error learning. Therefor not good if the user has lost some brain function.
the phone needs find my phone function ie some simple way of finding it if you have misplaced it in the car or at home. texting is not quite old style but still it takes a long time to compose a word. Ok for receiving text.
I have ook and purchased other senior mobile phones - this is the best design I have come across to date

Be warned – I have purchased this phone for my husband for christmas and it not easy to use at all. He has become frustrated and not happy with his gift. I am going to take it back and please be warned this is not an easy phone to use. I have an iphone and am 63 and it was so much easier to read and set up. It so frustrating to have to do old style texting going from one letter to the next who said this was for seniors?
Partway there for a low vision phone – I'm not a senior, but I bought this phone because I have low vision and need a phone with nice big numbers that I can read. The spoken numbers are a nice additional feature. It offers only basic functionality, but as I only need a phone for emergency use, it is fine for my purposes. However, there are some accessibility issues. There is… Read more
(somewhere) a switch for a torch that is regularly knocked on accidentally. I cannot see well enough to work out how to turn it off and it drains the battery very quickly. The background on the start up screen is not high enough contrast, so it's not easy to read the numbers on the screen. It may be possible to change this, but I can't see well enough to work out how, and I certainly can't read the manual.
Overall, this is a basic phone that solves part of my problem. At least I can see the buttons well enough to make an emergency call!
The Worst Mobile Phone I Ever Laid Eyes On!! – Bought an ALCATEL 20.01 Mob Phone for seniors thinking that this would be an easy phone for seniors to use. Boy what a disappointment firstly the "manual" is impossible to read without a magnifying glass! Then there is the so called "ease" of usage, this product is certainly not an easy to use phone as it is extremely confusing and difficult to… Read more
use.
I am very disappointed with this product and would advise anybody who needs to buy an easy to use mobile phone to stay clear of this product it is a total waste of money!
You have been warned!!
Useless Weather Function That Eats Your Credit – Bought this for my father because he was sucked in by Alcatel's marketing strategy targeting seniors and refused to accept a smart phone which are easier to use. He has now changed his mind after all his prepaid credit kept disappearing. We traced this to the weather function which continually accesses the internet to get the most useless weather… Read more
information possible and is therefore never used. This function cannot be turned off at all. It is not an app which can deleted. It eats your credit and does so for every one of these phones in use. This is a phone that should be removed from the marketplace and compensation given to everyone that bought one.
Fast and Reliable service – I ordered this phone , Let me share my experiences with you. My experience with the phone has been very positive. It arrived on time, well packed and in undamaged condition. As a test, I installed the sim card from my personal AT&T Galaxy S3 and booted it up. It connected to the AT&T network without issue and sent and received calls flawlessly.… Read more
The performance of the phone made my S3 look bad in comparison. Very snappy and a delight to use. As a further test I installed a Globe sim I had from a previous visit to Asia and it too was accepted by the phone with no issues (of course, it couldn't make calls due to there being no Globe network in the US). So I can say with a great degree of confidence that the phone is indeed unlocked and ready for international use.
Eats credit – We bought this for an elderly relative. She has no problem using it but we left her with £40 credit and after about a month it was all gone. We put more money on and again it all went. Now realised that it is probably the weather app - which no one needs and which it doesnt seem you can turn off. So far it has cost £60 and she has made 3 calls.… Read more
Awful. I think network supplier (EE) are also in on this scam. When i asked them they just shrugged - no attempt to explain or look into it. So going back to old phone and looking for new network supplier.
Senior friendly my saggy [censored word removed], I DON'T THINK SO – Objectively? So not senior friendly at all! 1). Doesn't need weather feature (why, why??) 2). Doesn't need bluetooth (why, why??) 3). Why isn't there a contacts button on the keypad instead of having to access via the menu? 4). Does need photo for contacts feature 5). Why doesn't it allow you to turn off internet option 6). Why… Read more
are keypad digits dimmed (defeats the purpose of being senior friendly surely ?)
7). Why why why only 2g ??,
Especially as it's for seniors, if they are in trouble surely they need a better reception than 2g
8). I bought this today for my elderly mother and quite expensive I thought at $84 AUD.
And i'm quite technically savvy, but I want to bang it against the table whilst trying to set up the options.
9). Instructions/graphics are so tiny, the piece of paper has my nose smudges all over it trying to read the numbers.
10). Why does a senior have to download the manual? A lot of seniors don't use internet, my mother doesn't.
I so, so wish i'd read the reviews beforehand.
Not a fan.
Unable to read the instructions – I bought the Alcatel 20.01 for my father. I loaded his phone list. I wanted to add security, as his last phone was stolen. Went to the instructions and found the print far too small for me to read. This product is supposed to be for seniors. If I cannot read the instructions how can Seniors and Geriatrics read them.
Alcatel - Phone doesn't work, Alcatel disinterested - not impressed – My Mother's Alcatel phone stopped working, she has had the phone for less than two years (it comes up with a message saying SIM Locked SOS Only). Mum is blind and relies on her phone. Her provider says they haven't locked the phone, I even tried using a new SIM with a different provider - same thing - so the problem is with the phone. I called… Read more
Alcatel, I was on hold for 40 minutes and then got through to a woman who kept telling me it wasn't their responsibility and to contact the telco provider. She totally ignored me, refused to transfer me to anyone else - it was like talking to a robot - crap phone, crap service - I will never buy an Alcatel phone again.

Confusion! – At this moment in time i am extreemly dissapointed with this phone. I purchased it 2 weeks ago for my mum and she thought it was great until money started to repidly dissapear out of her pay as you go balance overnight when she is not even using it. I have checked everything roaming is turned off so why is this? So far i have had no response… Read more
from the customer support at alcatel. Also i should say if we put her sim card back into the old phone money doesn't dissapear so it must be a phone issue.
Limited cellular networks – Purchased from Dick Smith Electronics. Advertising states "Not locked - Operates on any GSM network" Took this to NZ as a gift but would not work on the Telecom (now Spark) GSM network, which might just be the biggest provider in NZ! It's been a paperweight until just recently when I gave it to a non-senior friend. Verdict: On a scale… Read more
of simplicity with a smart phone (1) on one end and a corded push-button featureless home phone (10), I'd have to say it's a 4. It still has way too many features. The fact it is choosy on which networks to play on further reduces it's score.
Alcatel One Touch - my communication friend – I like this phone, easy to use and long life excellent battery,if only sms memory be larger so I don’t have to constantly see “memories are full”
Nice in the hand – Bright readable screen and loud narrative when dialling. Unfortunately the instructions are not readable. Elderly people probably only want to know basics, such as how to make and receive phone calls and texts and how to find the messages. Surely this could be provided in readable sized print with the phone. I had the accompying instructions… Read more
blown up by Snap Printing, but the paper measured 30 inches x 30 inches (and I have not made a mistake of putting inches) to be able to be read. Not everyone has a computer and even more so with the age group that would be using this phone! Come on Alcatel!
without auto answer – i buy this for my grandma, she cant move her hand, normaly she use head phone and with the help of auto answer she reply to calls..but there is no auto answer facility. or if u knw how to turn on auto answer then ill be very happy and thankfull.
good basic phone – i have found this phone easy to use, bright readable screen. quick start manual unable to be read without magnifying glass, but full readable manual available from alcatel website to download. many of the complaints mentioned can be solved by reading the full manual. this is a basic no nonsense phone. if you want more buy an appropriate phone.
forget battery life...it's terrible – leave it on all the time and you're lucky to get 2 days out of it. we get what we pay for...but there are cheaper phones out there with better battery life.
Do not buy Alcatel junk – If you have been unlucky enough to have just purchased this phone, then be prepared for it to do the following: Delete pictures randomly from your gallery, they can be saved for days or even months, go to your gallery and pics will dissapear, leaving a black screen where the pic was before, be prepared for it to load almost everything at snail… Read more
pace. having more then 1page at a time when on browser it very commonly crashes. Just now, since half way through writing this review, now the keypad on the screen is not working properly. This is the second Alcatel phone ive owned and can guarantee it will be my last, with the previous Alcatel phone, of a different model had exactly the same problems as my current one, reason being for getting another one after the first Alcatel dud is because the current one was free, and really, thats all they are worth, nothing. Im considering throwing it in the bin its that bad. Take my word for it and save yourself the frustration and the money of owning one of these poor excuses of a phone. Buying yourself any phone other than an Alcatel is a very wise option.
Simple enough to satisfy my oldies – I purchased this mobile unlocked for my oldies who were going overseas and needed a basic unlocked phone that would accept any sim card/carrier while away. this phone is simple enough for them to use as they struggle with things technical. i entered in the contacts for them but i didnt like that there is no arrow left right key (Only arrow up and… Read more
down) which makes it tricky when typing in misspelled names.
they like the big buttons which talk while you press the numbers. the phone is basic but that's the way they like it.
big screen with good size text which makes it great for them to read in poorly light areas Huge buttons, volume up/down on side, phone lock on/off on side of phone No arrow left/right key (Only arrow up and down) which makes it a bother when typing in misspelled names
Great buy for the hearing impaired – Loudest & clearest mobile I have found. Better than expensive amplified phones I have tried. User Guide is poor but functions are simple to set up - you don't need to be very smart to set up and use this phone. Intuitive menus. If you can't use this phone, go to Email. Excellent sound quality & volume. Easy intuitive menus. Easy to use SMS. User Guide is totally inadequate
Cheap phone – I bought this for my 78 y/o mum for mothers day. My dad said he liked the big buttons and wants one too. It's totally unlocked so any pre-paid sim can be used. Volume: ringtones and incoming call volume are exactly the same as any other mobile phone. Theres nothing extra loud or suitable for hard of hearing about this phone. This is false… Read more
advertising as it clearly states it has extra loud ringtones. The speaker is on the centre back so i found when placed on a surface the ring tones are muffled and can't be heard as much. I advised my mum when placing in handbag to place face down so back of phone faces up.
Functions: the LCD display is large and easy to read but it's very limited with only 2 rows. Contacts: you can add contacts to the address book but it is very limited. You can only add a name and 1 home & 1 mobile number. When you add a number the word "home" and "mobile" dissapear so when you choose a contact name it only displays the two numbers. Its ok if you can remember which number is which but if you wanted to add a home and work number or two mobile numbers it may be hard to remember which was which. . I also found it quite hard to input names and numbers as it has the old nokia circa 2001 style input method of pressing a number 3 times to get a letter ABC. It also has an option to have all capitals or smart text. I found both hard to select as the symbols are not clear when selecting.
Texing: the message function is as simple as the contact menu. Its very easy to read but quite hard to input again due to the old fashioned inputting method.
Other functions: it has a calculator, torch light on front, 20+ ringtones ranging from old style ring ring to funky salsa. You can add voice feedback so when you press a number on the keypad it speaks it back to you. It has loud speaker too. Theres an emergency call button on the back which is hard to push (maybe to prevent accidently pressing) you can add 3 family/friends phone numbers and it will send your recorded "help ive had a fall" message or a text of your choice simultaeniously to all 3 family/ friends or 000 when pressed. I'm not sure if it calls them as i didnt test it. It has bluetooth too but i havent tested it. I think you can connect to internet but it has such a small screen and no actual proper keypad it would be pointless using it.
Charging: theres a nice stand to place your charger in so it stands upright. It has a bright light on the front charger stand which means nothing. I thought it may turn off or a different colour when fully charged but it doesnt.
I personally would not buy this for myself as its like a 2001 nokia phone but my parents eyes lit up when they saw the big buttons. I was dissapointed that the volume was not extra loud as stated although it was perfectly acceptable for normal ears. My parents recently bought cheap prepaid phones but found the buttons and display too small for their liking. This one will suit them better. The instruction book is a joke. It's in miniature font so you need a magnifying glass to read it. Luckily my mum had one on hand. Big buttons, Not extra loud as advertised, contact book limited display, instruction book too small
