Alcatel One Touch 296 (2012)
2 reviews
Basic and cheap phone; limited redeeming features – Bought this phone about 4 months ago. I have a Android (work) phone and a small private phone. I was hoping to replace my 5 YO Nokia stick phone that was starting to get unreliable. I looked for a small phone to make calls. In my mind I wanted a basic phone - so when I saw the Alcatel onetouch I thought that was it. Positives: good size buttons.
micro USB charge port...no more needing a special Nokia charger.
as with many stick phones -good battery life.
relatively small & light.
FM radio + built in MP4 player.
built in torch [rarely use this]
customisable buttons
Negatives:
No camera [but that's pretty obvious]
average call (speaker) quality
selecting a contact and sending a sms is a bit awkward...probably 2 extra unnecessary clicks
unlock screen seems to come alive in my pocket so I've unintentionally called a few people.
haven't managed to receive photos
need to remove battery to access the micro SD card.
Overall - I regret not finding a 2nd hand nokia but the Nokia charger vs micro USB would sway me towards a newer phone...but not the OneTouch. Even though it still works I'm probably going to retire this phone pretty soon.
don't like it – this phone is small and hard to use. it came with a seniors plan from southern phone and the keys are too small, screen hard to read and not suitable for seniors. there are too many pages to scroll through to get to the contacts and a senior in distress would not be able to make a call. inexpensive too small, no user guide
