Purchased Adli Cocoon security camera.Worked for a few weeks then stopped and would not reset. After a lot of messing around I sent the item back to the distributor (not Aldi). After many weeks and many emails, I was sent a new camera. This camera is now working, however the batteries only last three days, so I am forever removing the camera to recharge it. Terrible product, would not recommend. Show details

We purchased the Cocoon Wireless Solar Panel security camera from Aldi a couple of weeks ago. Set-up was easy, installing camera & solar panel easy. Charging the batteries not so easy. Solar panel in a great full sun position, internal batteries in correct polarisation, but still wouldn't charge. Tried using the supplied USB cable, still wouldn't… Read more

charge. I rang the Support team 3 times on 3 consecutive days, no call back! I again tried charging with the supplied USB cable & found the USB port on the unit is dodgy. I fixed the problem with gaffer tape. I won't purchase Cocoon products again.

Crap cameras – WOW, what a waste of money, these cameras are discontinued and yet Aldi sold them- had a power outage and batteries died- Cocoon won’t unbind the bloody cameras so I can a least try and reconnect them- don’t bother trying to get your money back as once you have binded them with an account, your screwed. Long and short be careful what you buy electronic wise from Aldi. Just more Chinese crap on the market. Show details

waste of time, money and energy – Had nothing but issues since buying them. Had 1 replaced by Cocoon within a few months because it wouldn't recognise sd card any more. Can't retrieve video of sd cards after incident on a computer and phone app only shows some incidents. cheap Chinese spycam designed to upload data to Chinese servers – Bought a few of these. They come in pairs. They take SD cards and will record images in encrypted form on the SD card. The user cannot view the files directly from the app. All data is uploaded to the Chinese servers You must read the privacy and terms of use in the App and you will understand that these are Chinese data collection cams and that… Read more

Chinese laws apply to the data collected and cocoon can use the data as they please including the use of facial recognition algorithms. WITH SD CARD INSTALLED: If WIFI is present it will store files on SD card and upload on the Chinese server. When activated the camera will record many short bursts of video up to 10 seconds long. This means that if someone is at your door for 2 minutes it will record 10+ short videos all in different directories that make it impossible to sequentially order the files without using the app. When activated the camera connects to the server and takes the time that it will imprint on the video, however, most short recordings don't have the correct time but 1970 01 01 because it takes time for the camera to connect to the server. After 10 to 20 seconds the following video files do have the correct time. If the WiFi works it will record the short multiple videos in many separate directories on the SD card and you will be able to view them through the app. They are in an encrypted form (why???) and you need special software to hack the files and see the videos after spending considerable time ordering them in the right sequence. NOTE if the WiFI is off, the camera will record videos when activated, however the user cannot access these videos which are uploaded to the server once the connection is established. the user can only view the videos that are taken when WIFI is working. At times I turned off the cameras only to find that the camera turns itself back on! If you want to really turn them off you MUST remove both batteries. If the WiFi is off, the cam will try to connect to the WiFi for 30 seconds as soon as the battery is inserted. If no WiFi is found it tries again after 5 minutes, then 15 minutes, then every 30 minutes. Every time the camera tries to find the WiFi it turns on the cam for approx 30 seconds and this uses up the SD card space and battery. Remember all the recorded photos and videos recorded when the WiFi is off are not accessible to the user but are uploaded to the Coccon Chinese server. The width angle of the lens is good, however the camera often does not record when it detects movement. There is a long delay. If a burglar turns off power to the WiFi , the camera will not record, making these cameras TOTALLY USELESS for security. Note that the camera records bursts of videos and not one continuous video for the duration of the activation. The app has the possibility to download the video or photos to your phone but it is via a recording of your screen, NOT the file on the SD card

ALDI sells a version of these cameras every year so they are NOT discontinued They should be banned for sale in Australia

Only fit for the tip! – If I could rate this product zero stars I would. It's no wonder this product has been discontinued - it's absolute crap! Constantly disconnects, then you have to 'wake up device' which doesn't work and then do your best not to get so frustrated you want to throw it into the street in hope a bus will run over it. On the odd times it does work, it… Read more

works well if you don't mind a delay in recording the 'thing' that set it off so you only get half of the action - if you're lucky!

Worse yet, you can't replace the batteries. I've had mine a little over one year, and let it go completely flat. Now that it's fully charged again, it won't turn on and I can't reset it. It's basically unusable. It belongs in the tip! Don't waste your money.

Just a waste of time – The cocoon smart camera 7/12/2022 from Aldi has a descent picture but it won’t take a motion pic at 2 metres away, any closer and it’s about 4 seconds to slow besides it defeats the purpose. It’s ok if the picture is monitored then you can take photos or videos. NO I don’t think this camera is worth the bother, it’s disappointing because now I… Read more

have to take it back. I wish I had read the comments first, but I didn’t know Aldi had it for sale. So it’s a NO from me, I’ll keep looking.

No Range offline constantly – Bought these as a pair on Aldi special Nov 2022. One located only 5m and one only 10m from router. Constantly going offline, walked in front of camera multiple times but only recognized a human detection once in 20 attempts. Fully charged batteries but still hopeless. Will be returning and doing some research first before buying. Should have checked the reviews first even those these are newer type. Show details

Avoid – They just don’t work effectively. Cocoon support constantly state that the connection has to be upwards of 80% to work effectively but it’s like the design prevents that. What’s the point of this product if you have to have 4 cameras sitting next to your router to get decent connection. I have attempted MULTIPLE times to seek assistance from this… Read more

company. I’ve even sent a unit back for troubleshooting. These cameras constantly go offline, can’t establish a secure connection, or take a photo of movement far too late so you get a notification of nothing.

Their words “Anything below 80% signal strength is unfortunately going to cause a delay, in getting the notifications” and that I might like to buy a wifi extender to fix this. No. One camera is in the room next to the router and still doesn’t reach 80% but my phone does. The product is inferior.

I’ve asked what can be done because I’m not happy and they won’t do jack. Terrible customer service. I bought TWO of these. Down $600 for absolute crap.

This is a joke of a product and I would NOT recommend.

The worst wireless camera ever made – This camera is complete garbage it's bitter sweat that it's discontinued. Happy nobody else will put up with it and sad it's not here to suffer the review. Doesn't wake up has to be close to the router and runs out of battery quickly. I'm never buying ANY cocoon garbage again Show details

Baby monitoring cameras great, security cameras never – Easy to set up, great battery life and good video quality. Easy to get live video on phone. But..... The sensor triggers are so ridiculously slow that any intruder is well gone or has disabled your cameras before the first image is taken. Then the app only captures 10 seconds of video and that's only if you get the cloud subscription.. And yes 10… Read more

seconds only once! Even if the person or car is still there it doesn't retrigger and keep on recording. So useless for security. Oh yes and the motion detected notifications are random if at all despite me enabling all the right settings. Shame as all of this is software/firmware fixable but the company doesn't seem remotely interested. Oh and if you did happen to buy these cameras remember to cancel your cloud subscription (oh yes $28 per month for the basic plan for all 4 cameras....) before you return the cameras as the link to the cloud subscription and cancellation disappears when the cameras are not connected. Yes still months after returning my cameras I'm still arguing with Cocoon to cancel my subscription.... Oh yes their customer service is ordinary.

Good but has issues – Got this from Aldi with a solar panel so its always getting charge which is a plus, very good camera for day and night time and zooms in quite well compared to more expensive brands. picture/or video of people walking by. Not just that it goes offline now and then which is a real pain in the butt as u have to remove it and turn it back on and put it back up where u mounted it. It does have a microphone built in and a speaker so u can talk to people but the play back is delayed. Good first camera but if you want quality go to bunnings and buy a SWANN etc. 6/10

Good but unpredictable camera – It would be an ok camera if it didn't go off line all the time, having to keep resetting it or switching it back on. Night mode is extremely good but with it randomly disconnecting, it's not doing it's job. playing around with this frustration, i found that "Kogan smarter home app" from playstore works much better. Almost never goes off line & works as intended with better wi-fi signal. So, it's not the camera which is bad it's the app that runs it.

Don't waste your money!!!!! – Couldn't get the system working properly. No playback. Sent it back on the company's request, who assured me they could make it work. Once they returned it to me it just won't connect. Staff seemed attentive initially but then just dropped the ball. Apparently now too late to refund. Show details

If only it worked like the app claims – The design is nice and compact. The build quality is good as is the Live HD picture (day or night) it sends to your phone once all the wifi and phone parameters are configured, it's not simple but no PhD in computer science is required. So once I'd configured it to the best of my ability given that the manual is so light on. An example is motion… Read more

detection it can be off, low, medium or high. Does low mean low sensitivity and hard to trigger or Low levels of movement will trigger the recording. I'm still trying all the options to work it out. The rest of the manual is pretty much the same in that it does not tell you how to use the product in any meaningful way. Apart from where it is just plain wrong and what it claims should be configurable items are just not there. Storage is a great example of that. I sent an email to Cocoon support only to be send a response that sent me to the online version of the manual that had already been the cause of my frustration. I find it really annoying given that live data is presented crystal clear as mentioned earlier at any time day or night yet the App behind this product is so woeful.

Dysfunctional – I bought this on 17/10/20. It will detect motion and start recording but it will not continue recording. E.g. someone walked past the house, it began recording. A few minutes later I arrived home. Then my neighbour came to my door. It has indicated in grey that motion was detected for the whole time, but only plays the first part then stops.… Read more

Visibility is good day and night. I don't know if there's a way to get it to keep recording on loop. The instructions don't mention what the motion detection sensitivity does. There's an option to turn it off...but does that mean I just stop getting notifications? It's all in the air. I have contacted Cocoon and have given a date by which I would like this resolved, otherwise I guess the product is faulty. There was a critical incident this morning but I missed it because of the above mentioned issue. Motion was detected but I can't see the full recording, just around 20 seconds then it either stops or says "End of Video." I like that it is magnetic. It works to monitor the house remotely, however I want it to record. I wish there was a detailed instruction manual either in the box or online so I could work this out. My email to Cocoon received an automatic reply that they're short staffed so their response may be delayed. Let's hope they get back to me before my set date. Edit: The basic manual mentions options that aren't actually available. See the images about storage. Edit 2: The recording on the SD card is with a .MEDIA extension. It cannot be played on my PC. I suspect Cocoon wants to force people to pay for their cloud storage instead of using SD.
