ALL DRIVE SUBAROO, PEAKHURST. EXCELLENT PRODUCTS & SERVICE – Our Subaru Forester engine “blew up” while on holiday interstate during May, 2023. We looked at various options of buying another used vehicle, or a reconditioned motor. In researching the latter, we came across All Drive Subaroo (ADS) at Peakhurst, a Sydney suburb. They had 3 options for a replacement engine which we found of great interest.. Briefly they were at that time: Level 1 - Rebuilt long dressed engine $4550 + GST Level 2 - Reconditioned long dressed engine $5450 + GST Level 3 - Remanufactured long dressed engine $7250 + GST All of these are described in detail on their very comprehensive website: https://www.alldrivesubaroo.com.au
On contacting ADS and telling them of our situation, we decided after extensive discussions with them, that if we chose an ADS engine it would be best to have it installed at their factory in Peeakhurst rather than at any “partner” so the one business would be responsible for the warranty on engine and labour.
Over a number of phone conversations with the ever helpful Tomas and Robert at ADS, we ultimately decided to go with the Level 3 Remanufactured long dressed engine. The Level 3 was more expensive than the other 2 levels, but we thought we’d get the best one as overall, we thought the car seemed fairly good.
Once the Forester was transported to Peakhurst as organised by the NRMA, they soon removed the old engine and sent us numerous photos showing the condition of parts that needed repair or replacement. Some of those were a bit of a shock to us and we wondered why they hadn’t been picked up at previous services elsewhere. They always gave us detailed lists (see below) of price of parts and labour and the options of whether or not we wanted such jobs done - we considered it best to have them done. They reported on progress throughout the job and completed it well within the specified time. Naturally, with all of the extra jobs done, it cost us more than we had originally thought in terms of just the Level 3 engine.
On taking delivery of our car at ADS, Robert met us and escorted us through their factory in which they do all of their work on developing the 3 levels of product and various other parts. They also supply parts to some Subaru dealers. Our old engine joined those that will eventually become another one of their products. We were most impressed with their factory and of course with our new engine.
As with a new car, it had to be serviced at 1000kms, so of course we drove to Peakhurst for that service which was at a very normal price for a car service. Despite the long distance, we intend to continue having ADS service our car at their recommended intervals because we consider they do such an excellent, thorough job.
Throughout the whole process of getting the new engine, Tomas and Robert were always very helpful to us, and didn’t try to “push” any of the levels. Nothing was too much bother to them. They spent time explaining things to us on the phone and in emails.
PROS: excellent product excellent service fair and reasonable pricing, very transparent always friendly, informative and helpful. always “up front” have provided good advice since then CONS: none that we can think of except distance from our home – but that’s not their fault.
I highly recommend All Drive Subaroo, Peakhurst to any Subaru owner who needs similar products or car service. 5 Stars
EXAMPLE OF INFORMATION ADS SENT TO ME AND WHICH I TOLD THEM TO GO AHEAD Vehicle Report & Service-related repairs: ADS Rating System • (3). Severe - Urgent safety issue requiring immediate attention. • (2). Moderate - Requires attention, however, is not yet severe. • (1). Minor - Not of major concern and can be reviewed at next service. Engine related repairs that should be done while installing the new engine. (also, more cost effective) • Heater hoses and bi pass fitting required $280 + GST (3) • Full set of timing covers are required. All run down & poor $160 + GST(3). If budget does not allow, we could come up with a different scenario. The ignition coil is damaged and the Ignition leads are broken . Cost for a new set of leads is $180 + GST and the coil 2nd hand $125 + GST (3). • Fuel injector service and O rings $300 + GST. • Retape and clean up inlet manifold harness etc $40 + GST. • Front and rear transmission hoses are leaking $150 + GST (2) • Engine pitch stopper mount is worn $115 + GST (2) • The engine mounts are worn and split. N/S (1/3) O/S (2/3). A new set will normally cost over $400 but can do them for $260 + GST.
