From then on it was downhill. We needed to make sure of the colours and decided to visit their premises. They were well out of town, and there was no showroom, just a small factory and no one to speak to. We had to make a special appointment to speak to the manager/owner and another trip out there. Then quite a few weeks after paying the deposit, Apex sent two young men to do a final measure up. This was it seems a different company that does the actual installation. They didn’t look happy and grumbled that it was on the 5th floor. A day later Apex phoned and said they couldn’t do the job for our exterior blinds (the biggest part of the job) as they had never before installed exterior blinds on anything but ground floor (even though the blinds were on balconies) but they had an associate company that could do those blinds for us but they’d have to come and quote. We said fine, and the other company came a week or two later but then submitted a quote that was very high; double our original quote for those blinds despite us having substantially reduced the size of those blinds). We then had to decline and start again from scratch looking for another company to do the job. We also discovered that the motorized blinds from Apex would not have been connected to electricity as we had wanted but would be run off lithium batteries. That was not made clear and is not good. Lithium batteries have a significant fire risk (you don’t really want them charging in your house or apartment), need regular maintenance to be safe, and have to be replaced after several years. Fortunately we did find another company to do our job that was far more competent, professional, and efficient Apex had been. The only positives about Apex was that the staff we interacted with were pleasant (though the admin person was difficult to contact as she was away often), and they did refund our deposit promptly when we asked.
