Check in Qld – Is the Aspera42 compatible with the check in qld app? Bought this phone for hubby, as it has big numbers. However, he needs to have the check in qld app. Show details

Aspera A42 - terrible disappointment – I bought an Aspera A42 for my 81 year old Mum & unfortunately it's now unusable. I purchased this phone at Australia Post for $99 (August 2017 - only 17 months ago), thinking it would be a reasonable phone that wasn't too expensive & would be perfect for Mum. I was wrong! It loses texts (she's had 2 network providers) & it is definitely the… Read more

handset. This is a real issue with an elderly parent who needs to be contactable.

It now is unusable as a phone because you can't hear the other person (or be heard yourself).

Battery life is terrible.

I rang Aspera & was bluntly told it only has a 12 month warranty & basically "too bad". No offer of repair or replacement. The consultant really didn't care about the phone defects or Aspera's reputation.

It's not a cheap phone if it doesn't even last 24 months. $99 is a lot of money for an elderly pensioner.

Do not buy any Aspera!

sucks – I have had it with this phone. So many text messages not delivered or coming through from friends. I thought it was my telecom supplier but now I find so many reviews say same thing. Now battery won't hold charge for a full day. I agree with other reviews on poor photo taking, battery life and sms. Some may think it a cheap phone but for me $99 is still a large outlay  Show details

Phone only sometimes receives sms – The aspera a42 is the worst phone I've purchased. I didn't expect a whole lot out of a $100 phone but I did expect to receive SMS from friends and family but the phone only receives about 10% of them. Tried to find answers but nobody seems to care because they've heard it all before and they know this phones a piece of garbage  Show details

really bad – worst phone I have ever wasted money on, very slow, and taking photos is ridiculous, the camera goes .1...2...3...snap by then the subject is long gone, too fiddly. Just a very poor product, will be buying a better-recommended phone with way better performance. I am very surprised the phone dealer i bought it from had the nerve to offer it, won't be going back to that shop again either.  Show details

My First Smartphone - Update – I bought this phone because it was in my price range, $99. I wanted a phone that would take Apps so I could d/l a particular App. I followed the instructions on how to set it up & a fellow who classed himself as a 'mobile guru' helped me with the permissions. Then it happened: the phone activated gmail without asking me 1st? I have another android… Read more

mobile that's very old, it has contacts for o/s ppl only. This new phone, once it had activated gmail found that I had gmail activated on the other android and proceeded to port all the numbers together on the new android, the Aspera A42. So now all the numbers were mixed up. It then proceeded to make 2 lists: 1 for fave/frequently called contacts the 2nd for All contacts. I didn't get a say in that either! So when I wanted to text a friend it wouldn't let me because that person wasn't on the fave list!! So I went to 'All Contacts' to try and text that person listed there, but it wouldn't let me cos I hadn't texted them in 3 days!! So I left that and the next day tried to ring a new friend who wasn't on either list yet, but would be I hoped, after the call. Well, you got it, not only could I NOT ring them, I couldn't add them to the All Contacts list. That person was put on hold while Telstra, whom I'm NOT with, flashed a dozen messages across the screen asking me which option I wanted??? There was NO OPTION to ring the person who was on hold!!! I hung up and tried to ring him 10 times, each time he was put on hold, each time I wasn't allowed to ring him, ugh. So this phone then started to load something, I'm not sure what it was, I'd never seen it b4, a circle of dashes with a red receiver on 1 side & a blue receiver on the other. I hung up and powered the phone OFF. I've been turned off 'smartphones' ever since.

I rang Aust Post, cos I've always bought all my mobiles from them. They said the phone was faulty & to return it for a full refund. I took it back to the PO I bought it from & was told they couldn't refund me cos the phone was used. Not even 2 weeks old, surely it was covered by some sort of warranty??? I emailed Aspera they said to do a Factory Reset. I took the phone to my son's place as I was leaving to go o/s the next day, and asked him to do the Factory reset cos as it was it was useless. When I return to Australia next month I will see how it goes when I put the SIM Card back in. I hope NOONE ever experiences what I did with this phone.

Rubbish – I bought this phone on 16 Aug 2017 as a cheap 2nd phone. Not only did many of the features not work in particular SMS but the battery started losing power and us big completely dead and is not recharging.I did not have high expectations of this phone given its specs and price but a battery lasting around a month that's just not on!  Show details

Good Value – I personally find this phone to be a good value phone. It doesn't cost a fortune and it serves it's basic purpose. The manual took a while to understand, but even without it this phone is still easy to use. Obviously this phone doesn't have fancy functions like iPhone, but it has a basic phone features like SMS,MMS, calendar and making phone calls.  Show details

Very ordinary – I have fairly low standards for mobile phones and wanted something cheap when my Samsung J1 became fully network locked. The Aspera A42 cost me $99 but I should have forked out the extra $60 or so for another J1- a far superior phone. The A42 re-initiated touch sounds whenever I unmuted it so I had to get the mute app from the play store which… Read more

seems to work okay. The alarm clock doesn't always work and when it does it shows an annoying upcoming alarm notification on the lock screen- I will have to download a clock app for this too. To start with I didn't receive every text message sent to me putting a very close friendship at risk! This seems to be fixed, possibly by powering off for about 20 minutes (which is apparently something you should do occasionally). Also, compared to the J1 there are a lot more hoops to jump through when moving images from the gallery to the sd card- you have to go into my files and copy and paste. One thing it has over the J1 is that the internet is a lot faster, but this may be because it's new and doesn't have a lot in its cache. Spend a little more unless you don't mind being annoyed!

GOOD – This is a great phone as your first phone. But it just has a very bad battery life. Its a cool phone and it won't make you embarrassed. I like it! Also the manual ain't user friendly. And the text some times doesn't deliver. But I think it because I'm with aldi mobile but anyway.  Show details

Disappointed – I bought this model today. It took forever to get contacts from the sd card loaded. Now each time I touch the screen it goes blurry so that I cannot see the text clearly. I have had to go back to using my old phone. I know it is a cheap product but very disappointed that I am unable to use it. What a waste of money that I cannot afford to waste.  Show details

Value for Money – I wanted to purchase a very basic unlocked SIM smartphone as I am a light user. The price of this model is very reasonable and it has more than enough functions for me. I am satisfied with its speed. The design is simple, but really good. I rate this model 4 stars, not 5 stars as its instruction manual is not user-friendly and the manual which can be obtained online is the same as the printed version with no proper explanation in detail.
