Aspera R6

Great phone, shame about the malware – The R6 is a good phone and is certainly tough, but came with malware (com.rock.gota) on it disguised as "Software Updater" and it could not be uninstalled, cleaned or disabled. Attempts to contact Aspera Mobile via email were unsuccessful and there is no contact phone number available on their website. I have had to replace the phone and I did not buy another Aspera! still using it after 3 years – Ok this is the 3rd unit in 3 years. First one I bought at Harvey Norman and It had fault from day one screen used to freeze and all other bunch of nonsense. Got it swapped for new one(wasn't really easy) even that it was only a week old Harvey's wasn't really helpful with warranty. Second unit fell out of my pocket straight on to the concrete and… Read more
power button failed. Went to Harvey Norman and somehow I ended up in chatswood Nsw at aspera headquarters where I left my phone for repairs and got a new phone to use in the meantime. (Aspera r6 was given to me). Phone got fixed and posted to me and I ended up with 2 phones. Pretty good huh? It's been 2 years now and I'm changing parts in between them, using one phone as a donor for parts and I run out of parts. I changed screen (lower part of screen stopped responding, wasn't cracked or broken), changed rear speaker, battery, headphone jack, and another part can't remember now. Over 2 years this phone was used a lot on construction site, outdoors and rubberised overmould is partially gone. Still working fine and battery is ok but it was changed. Overall fairly bad phone specially when you consider price at the time was over 600$ I believe. I would not recommend. Now I'm browsing for a new tough smartphonephone and I stay away from aspera.
Tough, durable mobile phone – Owned it for 3+ years and I highly recommend it. Has been with me to many countries, many outdoor adventures, being dropped, taking quick swims with me while being on the paddle board, handled dual SIMs... Battery life is stll good, original screen cover, good camera and video capability. Yesterday I replaced the microphone as salty water has taken some toll; hard to give up on this phone. Show details
not bad – extremely durable, i have owned this phone for 3 years now and have only got a extremely minor mark on the screen, literally no other damage. the only con would be the battery life but that is to be expected on a 3yr old phone otherwise functions exactly as described Show details
Don't believe the advertising of Aspera and Harvey Norman – I purchased an Aspera R6 phone solely because the manufacturer advertises guarantees, using made up words 'ruggedised', to emphasise its toughness, unlike other mobile phones. Here's some samples: 1. entirely waterproof, beyond 1 metre for up to 30 minutes and completely dust resistant 2. truly 'ruggedised' shock-resistant Aspera outer body,… Read more
adds Gorilla Glass 3 for screen durability
3. the Aspera R6 is ready to take on any task you throw it at, or even throw at it; wherever you are, whatever you are doing, whatever the conditions.
The R6 was advertised on Network 9's ‘Today Show’. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amChMs_oAog
My phone was dropped on the side of a road and when retrieved ten minutes later, the 'Gorilla Glass 3' screen was broken. Other phones that may be expected. The R6 is supposed to withstand any task, 'whatever the conditions'.
Aspera claimed the manufacturer's warranty has not valid as I had owned the phone for more than 12 months. [I've had it 17 months.] The Harvey Norman franchisee refused to honour any warranty or extended care warranty I had purchased claiming that 'their 'Product Care' doesn't cover damage including from water. NB: Harvey Norman has not sold Aspera product for 8 months. Would this have a bearing on my claim?
For the supposed 'Chuck Norris' of phones, the only chucking I did was 'up', when Harvey Norman said if I paid $150 it could be fixed!
I've bought furniture, TVs, sound systems from Harvey Norman and paid for extended care warranties... Not any more.
Source of annoyance – Bought this phone as I needed a rugged phone that would last on the beach, in the bush, when it rained, etc. It can take beautiful pictures - but it switches off for no reason. All. The. Time. It's just a frustration. Spend your money on a better case and a different phone, This one's not worth it. Show details
Generally a good phone..but – Reception is fair, and the device has typical android features. I like the ruggedness, however, what is inside may not match the looks. 1 year and one day old, the screen has just gone dead. No bumps, No drops, No scratches, just dead for no visible reason. Harvey Norman checked it and have advised me to expect a 2-3 week… Read more
delay while it gets fixed under the extended warranty, Due to banking authorization SMSs, etc, I needed to purchase a replacement phone.
The new phone needs a different size sim card, resulting in a Trip to Telstra - another hour
In buying the Aspera, I just wanted a reliable mobile phone, One day out of Warranty, it would have been good if Harvey Norman had been able to offer the support which was verbally given when the device was purchased, "If it fails during the first 12 months, we will replace the phone".
yes me too – Ive had all types of mobile pH. this Aspera R6 bought from Harvey Norman was frustrating at first but i stopped fighting with it, i love to drop my pH's, NOT this has passed the tests so far. Yeah it don't do all Iphones do but it was cheaper and my iphone 6 mother board died anyways. so all in all this will do me for the time being. Show details
horriable – I had two, the first one the battery stoped working up then with the second one after 2 weeks the battery over heated and burnt all the inside components and was spraying out an acid smoke. This China made phone is crap. This phone is not worth $600 and needs to be fixed Show details
gorilla glass – I to was looking for a tough phone for work sorry to say it fell out of my pocket and the screen cracked. I am very dissapointed with the service from the staff. They quoted it would be $150 to fix the screen when it was obviously a fault with the phone itself. Considering that the website says you can throw the phone at walls, I'm a very unsatisfied customer that now has to look for a new phone. Save yourself the money and don't buy this. Show details
Ok Phone. Stock Chinese Version Of Kitkat, Bluetooth Sometimes Disconnects – I was looking for a tough phone to take to work and chose this one. Unfortunately the build quality is poor. Over the last month there have been issues with it such as a faulty headphone jack, Bluetooth audio disconnecting every minute on some sound systems, widgets disappearing on the screen and now the battery is not holding a full day charge.… Read more
Honestly I wish I never bought it as there are better phones out there for the price. The whole user experience is what I would expect from a cheap Chinese copy.
Aspera R6 best rugged phone – Some would say It's big, maybe bulky, it doesn't apologise for this and it shouldn't... Get past this and you will find a rugged phone with a fast operating system, great screen menu and a very good camera with a front camera. I'm not a phone expert but I have had a lot of phones and this one out does the others. With combined email, fast installs… Read more
of apps, fast google searches, voice function, duel sim card and expandable memory.
The battery life is very good, I charged the phone on Friday night thru to Saturday and I have been constantly using the phone since Saturday night with medium use for calls, app install's, email's and google searches, come Wednesday morning the phone was on 10% life left. Not bad considering I have email updates every hour and a few apps running in the background.
So in summary if you are after a phone that will take a big hit or will survive a dip in pool (just over a meter deep so the manual say's) with a fast operating system and a little less bells and whistle's. Then this is it, and for the outright price it's cheaper then any other new smartphone on the market. and it comes with a 12 month replacement warranty with a option to buy more. I love this phone more and more every day.
