Excellent WiFi speeds – Upgraded from nbn50 to nbn100. Did not get vastly different speeds, when ethernet connected had 105Mbs (always use WiFi). With some searching that basic router supplied by IP does not cut it. The Asus seemed to be low cost for smaller home, and packed with features, free firmware update+trend security for life of router+more. Easy setup(though I… Read more

did need a little help from Asus Support, very good). Concurrent use of 2.4Ghz+5Ghz. 5Ghz for TV+Tablets achieving 105Mbs consistency, and 75Mbs at 30m outside. 2.4Ghz good for mobie phones, printer, Google home, smart lights etc. Using for 6 weeks solid performance. Note: If updating firmware on WiFi, place your device close to the router, as specified in Setup. Very happy with purchase from Amazon and support from Asus.

great – I've had this router for quite a while now and it has never failed me yet, its coverage is great and it does the whole house and its really fast for gaming, i get around 22ms ping on the nbn, the only thing bad about it is that it is quite light which means it can fall and move quite easily.  Show details

Great NBN router – I have been using this router with FTP NBN for the past 4 years with no issues. Great WIFI (2.4/5ghz) range and also packed full of monitoring and extra features. This has also been one of my only long standing routers that i have not had to replace or fix. The ASUS brand is reliable and quality.  Show details

Good product compare to other ones in market – I have this router for 3 years now and i can say this router have some advantages and disadvantages, Advantages: - Good coverage - high speed - USB server - mobile app to look into the performance and statistics - guest network Disadvantages: - heat will affect the performance in summer and i have put additional fan to cool it down. … Read more

- time to time require reboot as performance drops some times

- lake of monitoring individuals traffic monitoring

- not able to use it as VDSL for new NBN Fibre to Node connections and you do require another modem to feed into it first.

does what it says on the tin – great router, it does struggle through a few walls though. But up close its super quick. I found this router was best placed right in the centre of the house. It doesnt have an overly large footprint either which was great for my small apartment. It was really simple to setup as well. Just follow the guide.  Show details

Impressed! – My wireless modem (not this product) was dropping connections and not very strong so researched a bit and bought this. It's only been a day but am impressed! I have it set up at front of house (study) and get 4 bars on my mobile in the backyard. Everything in the house has full bars. That's not bad for traversing a few walls. Have a NAS… Read more

connected and it is quick - streaming movies from NAS to TV, downloading files and surfing the net and it all works well. Have 11 devices connected.

Pointer for anyone connecting to an existing wireless modem: ensure you turn wireless off (modem), the modem and router have different IP addresses assigned and in my case the router did not auto-connect to the internet through the modem until I selected dynamic ip. Plus update to latest firmware. Super fast, excellent signal strength, looks good

Fast but short life, lack of support – Bought this just for over a year and has been a significant upgrade from my old N900. Until it suddenly stopped working - all lights off, no power but the AC adapter light was on. Sadly it's just passed the 1yr warranty, so I brought it to an authorized service in my city for repair but unbelievably they couldn't handle routers! Response from… Read more

ASUS support: no global warranty for router so it must be repaired in country of origin! I had enough and throw it in the bin. Very poor quality for such expensive top-end product, and no local service, no global warranty is a nightmare for business. Very fast, good software Expensive, poor quality, no local support

Very fast wireless performance! – My existing N-class router was too slow for internal backups and large transfers so I thought I'd bite the bullet and buy a draft-AC router to increase speeds. After much research I chose the Asus RT-AC66U as it appeared to have all the features I needed. I can honestly say it does, the interface is intuitive and easy to use, but the speed is… Read more

amazing. I am getting 526 Mb/s on the 5GHz AC channel but also getting up to 450Mb/s on the 5GHz N channel on my Apple iMac. It's not the 1300Mb/s that it can theoretically achieve, but significantly better than the 250Mb/s I used to get with my old router. Range has also improved immensely. Of course I had to buy an "ac" network card for my PC to attain these speeds. A full backup over the old wireless network used to take several days, it has now reduced to 13 hours, which I can live with. It has simultaneous dual-band operation, with a separate 2.4GHz channel for the older machines in the house. Initially the speed would drop over a few days, but a recent firmware upgrade appears to have corrected that problem. I'm very happy with this router. Fast, easy to set up, lots of features.

Exceptional Unit – I bought one of these after reading a comparison review against a range of other 'AC' standard routers on the PC site, tomshardware. It was highly recommended and a clear winner in the comparison. I have a rebranded Netgear Wireless 'N' modem/router supplied by and branded BigPond from Telstra which works fine. However after reading the… Read more ·  1

advantages of the 'Wireless AC' standard decided to give this a go. We have kids in the house that enjoy online gaming and we also stream movies directly to the Smart TV so need a fast, reliable connection. I don't have a whole lot of network knowledge either so had to be relatively easy to set up.

I bought this from umart for $230 which was about the cheapest I could find. I plugged it in using the supplied ethernet cable into the existing Bigpond modem/router and installed the software as per instructions. It worked - simple as that.

The signal strength and speed more than doubled. No dropouts and the functionality of the supplied software is excellent. We can set the parental controls to set the times of day devices can access the network or allow guests temporary access to the network without giving out passwords. We've plugged in an external hard drive into the Asus router to act as backup storage etc - easy.

Remember you can't use this on it's own - you need a modem too but if you just want something that works - this is an excellent choice.

Highly recommended. Far superior in every aspect to Wireless N routers - speed, range and easy to set up. Software is very versatile. A bit expensive compared to other routers and you need a modem to plug this into making it a fairly expensive solution. However our modem was free (included in the Bigpond deal) so not a big issue for us.
