BaoFeng UV-10R 8W 128 Channels Dual Band FM Transceiver Two Way Radio

Cheaply made, has loads of features, good value for the price – These are cheap Chinese 2 way ham radios, typically found on Ebay. These 2 way radios, do vhf and uhf ham radio frequencies and CB radio frequencies too. When compared with other radios sold in Australia, they offer far more features and for far less cash. There radios performance is modest but acceptable. The main reason why the radios are so… Read more
cheap is they have not been approved to work in Australia. In order to get approval it costs a manufacturer a fortune, and they have to pass that on. The reason why it cost so much to get the ACMA approval is greed. And due the ACMA and Australia crippling costs, a black market for cheap goods has open up on-line bypassing the government and the ACMA red tape. While the radio has not been officially tested to work in Australia, it appears to pass all the ACMA requirements, anyway. As the radio tests compliant, no fine will ever be issued provided you operate within the rules of you're ham license. Some other radio suppliers will have you believe the radios can cause interference and splatter the band but this has not been the case, and these lies is a typical scare tactic used by competitors to protect their market share, the output appears clean and in spec. The Transmit power varies with frequency, 4~5Watts max. Not 8 watts. But this is not a problem. The only issue is the antenna is terrible, you may want to get a better antenna. The battery charging station is cheap, and the included audio headset is cheap and not durable, however this is a bargain radio with loads of features. It also has a small led torch, a personal alarm and a fm radio.
Cheap expendable amateur radio. Ordered from bangood.com. False advertizing – I ordered the radio from bangood.com with shipping from CZ warehouse. All tests were made on UHF on low power setting, narrow band, with squelch set to 1. I used original and WOUXUN 42cm VHF & UHF antenna. I do not have a power meter and spectrum analyser. With original antenna signal strength on reception site is a lot stronger than from a 0.5W… Read more
PMR TOPCOM TwinTalker 3700.
Poor receiver. Sadly a toy PMR outperforms it on receive. On a slightly noisy location (lots of other signals): With a better antenna reception gets worse, but transmision gets better. Indicating rather poor receiver, than bad antenna.
Test on a distance approx 50km hill to hill, no obstructions: UV-10R signal was received on the other end, but I did not hear a reply. I could receive a reply with TOPCOM TwinTalker 3700, but could not transmitt over same distance as UV-10R.
Battery is only 1200mAh @ 300mA discharged from 8.4 to 6.0V. Tested with IMAX B6. Under Q & A seller claims battery capacizy to be 5800mAh [ https://www.banggood.com/BAOFENG-BF-UV10R-Plus-10W-4800mAh-UV-Dual-Band-Two-way-Handheld-Radio-Black-Walkie-Talkie-128-Channels-LED-Flashlight-USB-Rechargeable-Outdoor-Hiking-Intercom-p-1753474.html?cur_warehouse=CN&ID=47184&rmmds=search ] False advertizing.
Very poorly designed desktop charger. Placing a unit on charger in a way, that it actually charges battery, is a bit of a challenge. PSU for desktop charger feels very light.
Desktop charger and its power supply both have CE markings. CE marking is also on the back of user manual. No CE marking on station and battery. Not legal to sell in EU (Ordered from CZ warehouse).
There is no mentioning of product model, BAOFENG, or any other manufacturer in supplied paper version of user manual. It just says: " User Manual Two Way Radio Larger RF Power Model " No BAOFENG stamped, or engraved on product. "BAOFENG" written only on stickers.
Under techical specifications transmitter power, and battery capacity are not specified.
Advertized "Strong Flashlight" is far from strong. It would be much better if beam center would not be obstructed by antenna. Another false advertising, but still usefull in total dark.
Missing CE and FCC markings, omissions of transmit power in supplied user manual is not a positive thing. Supplied manual also differs from verison I was able to find on the web.
I ordered two units. One had a lose nut on antenna conector. Other has very uneven illumination of the display and was likely opened and poorly repackaged. I probaby got previosly returned item.
I wrote a 2 star review, slightly less detailed than this one, on bangood.com, and test battery result as an answer under Q & A section. None of them appeared on their website. I suspect they are cherry picking 5 star reviews.
On the plus side I can compliment on fast shipping. Could be a decent radio if it was better on receive. Case looks like it could take some abuse. Considering the price, maybe it is not too big of a disaster. Could be ok, if used on short distances as expendable radio.
