Baumatic BDW65

Works sporadically – We have a run of it working and days with it not starting. Just sits there pinging at us if the door is open and won’t work if it’s closed.
Worst machine! Really wasted my money on this one :( – 1. Doesn't clean the topmost rack (for small bowls etc.) ever. I can always find dirt stuck on my bowls everytime I use it 2. Doesn't fit my wine glasses :( 3. Doesn't clean tall glasses. Show details
Great if you know how to fix it every 12 months :( – Have had the water pump break and the main control panel has broken twice (turns on and off, unusable) fine if you know how to repair appliances yourself and dont mind waiting for spare parts to arrive in the post. Appliances shouldn't need repairs til at least 5 years old. Show details

Going to the tip – This machine was in a house we just purchased. I have had several dishwashers over the past 35 years and this is the worst. Its main faults are — * It's badly designed inside and difficult to stack dishes. * The racks don't slide smoothly and are loose * The normal wash cycle is 2:40! * Drying is marginal. * The door is stiff to open * The… Read more
bottom rack always runs off its tracks and is a nuisance to use
It washes OK but is fairly noisy. It has a cutlery drawer which takes up space you need for tall glasses. If you lower the top rack you then can't fit tall items in the bottom. Some people might like cutlery drawers but I don't so it was binned in favour of a generic cutlery basket from Ebay.
I was in The Good Guys killing time while my wife shopped next door in Spotlight. Checking out the dishwashers, the salesman came up to chat. I mentioned I wasn't happy with the Baumatic. He said he wasn't surprised and it was just a builder's special. They haven't stocked them for four years.
I got to thinking. I might have to put up with the Baumatic toy for another couple of years! My wife came in and we bought an Asko on the spot. Expensive, but a quality machine.
Absolutly perfect. Great Price. Great to pack and unload. Very quite – After fighting with my LG dishwasher for several years I decided to buy a dishwasher with a cutlery draw. Problems with the LG: The LG had a cutlery basket and the openings were too small for the thick handles on our knives and forks. They had to be physically pulled out and pushed in. The top draw had too narrow a section for the cups, and… Read more · 1
even though we bought narrow mugs, they still had to be physically pushed in and out. Packing and unpacking the dishwasher was a very difficult task.
Because of these difficulties the dishwasher was often only 3/4 full when it had to be set going.
As well, the metal in the basket frame was starting to rust and break through the plastic coating. I am sure this was leasing to rust stains on the cutlery.
Buying a new dishwasher:
Choice of a cutlery draw dishwasher was between a BOSH at $1400, a LG at $1500 (NO WAY!) or the Baumatic at $530, which had a 2 year warranty, and an excellent rap from my electrically appliance salesman that I have been trusting for the last 15 years. Have followed him to this, his third store. (Hello Richard at Good Guys Warrnambool) It was no contest. An extra 3 year warranty was $119. So for all up, at $649, I had a highly recommended dishwasher with a 5 year warranty.
The Baumatic BDW 6S/W:
Construction is excellent. All smooth metal and plastic. No rough edges at all. The LG used to trap a black sludge underneath the internal door where there was a hidden recess. Had to be regularly cleaned. Only discovered this after the dishwasher developed a nasty odor and I investigated. No such recess on the Baumatic. Overall the Baumtic in Stainless Steel looks very attractive and matches our new Blanco SS Oven.
Setup no problems at all. Plug in and connect to cold water. 10 minutes to remove old dishwasher and install new one.
Packing the dishwasher: So easy.
I estimate we are doing 2 less washes a week as it packs so well. Only problem was our tall glasses got hit by the runners of the cutlery draw. I moved the adjustable shelf so it sat behind the glasses so they sat up straighter and this moved them out of the way of the cutlery draw runners.
The control panel is the easiest I have ever used in an electrical appliance. You push the on button which is the standard circle with a bar. You then pressed the 'P' button (for 'Program' ) to select the required length of wash. As well as symbols along the top, the length of time is also shown, which is good, as the symbols are hard to see in our sun filled kitchen. I normally select the 1 hour wash.
To start the dishwasher you press the start/pause button. (Once again, the standard right facing arrow and two vertical bars like any media device.)
This has to be the quietest dishwasher I have ever heard. Nearly silent except for an occasional click or clunk as various valves are operated. No swooshing or spraying noises at all. The pump cannot be heard at all. Incredible.
The Wash: Excellent. The best example is our tea cups which had bad staining at the bottom from the LG. These soon disappeared after week in the Baumatic.
So, a highly recommended dishwasher. Only reliability to be tested, but that will take time. Inexpensive price and premium features compared to most other dishwashers
Brilliant (still!) – 2 months down the track update... Absolutely BRILLIANT cleaning (using the cheaper Finish Classic Tablets and Homebrand rinse-aid).Plastics a bit hit and miss with drying, but no different from the Bosch (apparently, after reading some of the Choice feedback). All other crockery and cultery squeaky clean using the "regular"(2hr 40min)wash (I have… Read more · 1
a smart meter so run the dishwasher at night, so the wash time doesn't bug me.(Haven't put pots and pans in 'cause I prefer to hand wash those myself). I went from a two drawer old dishwasher to this new two drawer plus cutlery tray/rack dishwasher.Just remember that the cutlery tray takes up space from the top drawer, so you might find that even with the top basket at it's lowest setting, your plates might not fit in the top basket due to the space taken up by the cutlery tray. Love the half dishwasher option (either top or bottom basket) and delay start(options available on the more expensive models) and it's energy efficient to boot. Quiet (well no noisier than my old one!).The "cycle finished" alert isn't very loud, but because I put the disher on late at night to take advantage of the Smart Meter power saving advantage, probably isn't a bad thing...! Overall so far, so good (fingers crossed!!)and well worth half the price of the Bosch Inexpensive, energy efficient, quiet.Cutlery tray. Plastics a bit hit and miss with drying, but nothing leaving them out to air doesn't cure....

NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE – Installed with new home some 6 years ago. Difficult to turn on/off due to touch pad. Only used about a dozen times. On/OFF button doesn't even operate now. Touch pad operation not fit for purpose. Didn't even dry dishes properly. Have been washing dishes by hand. A waste of money. Show details

Best dishwasher I have ever had – I love the quietness, the reliability, has never let me down in 7 years. Best is I can squeeze so much more in than other dishwashers I especially love the utensil rack on the top leaves more room for saucepans plates etc down the bottom. I have only ever used it on the 1 hour cycle and everything comes clean, and I often don't even rinse. Just Love it. Show details · 1
AWFUL don’t purchase – No wonder this machine is discontinued. Ours is barely 18 months old, still under warranty and has had 2 warranty call outs. Doesn’t dry dishes at all, they are so wet it takes hours to dry, Flicks any dirt up they settle in the water spinners so they constantly need to be cleaned out with a pin. By the time you do an extensive pre wash, then… Read more
clean the plates which come out dirty and all the spinners after each wash it would actually be easier to just hand wash your load. Yes we’ve spoken to customer service, no we weren’t offered any assistance. We will probably go and buy a new machine but never this brand again. We’ve had 3 homes with dishwashers and never had this problem before- it’s definitely a model/ brand issue.
Rubbish – Has to be on the longest wash to get dishes close to clean, does not clean well. Does not dry the dishes and we always use rinse aid. It is quite and thats its only good feature. I will never buy anything with this brand again. I will stick with quality like Miele Show details
Absolutely Garbage – Was installed in the house I'm currently renting. Continually does not wash dishes properly, every time I run a cycle I have to do it twice even three times, doesn't matter how little you stack it, will not wash anything. Everything is always wet after. Glad I didn't buy it but I will never own a baumatic dishwasher. Cooktops and oven on the other hand can't fault them. Show details
Wet wet wet – Bought a house with this in it and nothing ever comes out dry everything is soaking wet and the cutlery tray is a nightmare because dishwashers are supposed to make doing the dishes faster but loading this annoying and oddly flat cutlery tray makes me want to shoot myself in the night.
Biggest waste of moneyIi have ever spent – Hate this dish washer. 4 months it hasn't worked and despite 4 visits from a service guy it still is not fixed. Will never buy another baumatic product ever again. It was brand new and is 7 months old. Hate it and hate the customer service people too. Just get a runaround. Once the service man came out to listen to the machine. It fills with water but doesn't wash anything

Should never have been released on the market – Words fail me to describe this device. It was actually recommended to us by the Good Guys salesperson who must have been tripping out on something that day. A new circuit board made no difference and it was apparent that the washer was… Read more
of poor quality.
Now after two years it never cleans any stubborn stains, fails to dissolve the washing tablets and the items are still wet. Each wash is very hit and miss as to what the final result will be.
I note that it's been discontinued. That's about the only good news in relation to this wretched contraption.
It will be replaced as soon as possible and will probably be taken to the tip as it would be unfair to expect anybody else to have to live with it.
Noisiest crap ever - louder than my TV – The repair guy just told me the waterfall and banging sounds are 'normal' and that they get much louder over time. The dishwasher is louder than my brand new LG smart TV on full volume. The dishwasher is about 18 months old in a rental I just moved into. Do not waste your money.
Never rinsed/dried properly, broke down just out of warranty – Washes dishes well, doesnt rinse or dry the dishes too well. Broke down with an E1 error less then 3 months after the warranty expired. The service line had a queue of 14 in front of us, when we finally got through they wouldnt deal with us because the warranty had expired. Won't be purchasing a baumatic product again.
Flooded the kitchen on 1st use, now 5 weeks later and still not fixed! – We have Baumatic appliances fitted to our new house that we moved into 5 weeks ago. On the first attempt to use it our kitchen was flooded. We have been calling the 1800 number over and over and just get a voice message. 5 weeks without even someone coming to look at it is not good enough. We also have a Baumatic range hood which we do not use… Read more

A waste of time and water used – For the first two months it was good, then the trouble started there would always be water at the bottom of dishwasher dinner plates do not fit, always had to do two washers because plates were dirty, now 2 years later and two months it reads E4 drainage problem. sorry I ever bought a baumatic I would not recommend it at all.

Don't even bother – Received my dishwasher as part of a kitchen package, the first one lasted six months, the second total new replacement lasted 12 months. The washer, didn't wash properly, didn't dry the dishes, I didn't even bother trying to get it fixed, was easier to get rid of it and upgrade to a reputable brand with a decent warranty.
Yuck – This dishwasher came with the house we bought. Seal continually falls out You will have to rinse your dishes until they have basically clean before it will give you a decent clean load. Oh by the way did I mention how noisy it is. Absolutely extraordinary. We have to give up watching TV when the dishwasher is on. So, so noisy. Getting a Bosch to replace it.
Worst piece of junk, ever – Firstly, I never write reviews, so the fact that I've written one here is testament to just how bad my experience with this dishwasher has been. 1. landlord bought on recommendation by seller. I expect is probably considered a value for money dishwasher, or at least is sold as such 2. leaked from first install - no idea where leak was coming… Read more
from (apparently a back/bottom pipe), damaging internal cupboard laminate and external floor laminate
3. Then it stopped draining so the installers came back and suggested it might be a faulty model because of these and some of the other problems I listed - dishes not drying, smell, not cleaning properly
4. Seller claimed all ok, to check cycle used, etc. I only wash on the longest wash (yggesjust under 3 hours) and it STILL doesn't clean properly.
5. The accumulation of gunk over the course of the year is unbelievable. Not only does the dishwasher not clean properly (I'm often removing the dishes to re-clean by hand) but the dishwasher itself has accumulated a black film on the inner trays.
The ONLY thing I'm impressed with is that Baumatic have responded to some users here. To have faith in their product I assume there is a possibility that I have a faulty machine. I need to locate my warranty and spend additional time I don't have organising for them to come out again but it would be remiss of me not to warn others in the interim. Do not buy this machine under any circumstances. If my machine is replaced and my experience changes I will repost. Although the hassle (and actual worry over what happens in that machine - how on earth does that film build up?? and why won't the dishes dry) is enough to turn me off for life.
Do not buy – This dishwasher is terrible. We have not used it once successfully since installation. Our builder insisted that this was good quality and value for money, so we went with their recommendation. We tried fault finding with no results. Now we are trying to have the warranty honoured. Lets see how we go! Looks sleek and stylish. Does not function.

Total Rubish from a even worse builder – This dishwasher was insisted by our builder we wanted a Westinghouse got this instead, had bolt fall out only 6 months old told by service agent this is not covered under warranty and would br charged for the service call!! poor product from a poor builder wont be using either again!
Very happy so far – Price and a cutlery tray was a deciding factor in purchasing this dishwasher. We've had it six months so far and pretty much love it. When it starts to stop drying plastics I top up the rinse aid and open the door for 15 min after the wash finishes ( as per instructions). I only use the one hour cycle and its never let me down cleanliness… Read more · 4
wise. I do scrape dishes first because its not a garbage disposal. I also don't want bits of food flinging around!
So quiet you forget it's on. For the money, its brilliant! Cutlery drawer which is fantastic for tiny items. Bottom racks both fold down for different sized dishes. Looks good. Drawers don't always pull out smoothly, detergent tray has started to fail to open.
Bad – We bought our dish washer from the Good Guys upon their recommendation that this was a good brand. After a few months we began having problems with the dishes not being washed. Now after more then 2 months of waiting for parts and a number of phone calls to find out what is going on, we still don't have a working dishwasher. Today I phoned the… Read more
Goods Guys as a last hope. They rang me back saying that a company rep would not replace the item but would call me back by close of business. I am still waiting for them ring.
Not fit for the purpose, bad warranty service,
Good but not perfect (BDW70W) – The layout would be great but dinner plates don't fit unless you raise the middle tray which means you can't fit much in that tray. I like the cutlery tray. The machine is exceptionally quiet and cleans well although I have had trouble with the tablet dispenser not opening. The controls are simple and easy to use. It also has a solid top so mice cannot chew through. Very quiet doesn't fit large plates
Waste of space – If you put average size dinner plates upright the washer blade won't rotate. Initially I thought it was that the Vue plates were bigger than normal. But then my expensive dinner set wouldn't fit. Just bought another average priced set from Myer and it doesn't fit either. You have to either lay the plates down or spread them around the outside.… Read more
Also dishwasher tablets don't always dissolve. And, cutlery draw isn't efficient. What is the price.? Take a dinner plate and make sure it fits because you are stuck with a dishwasher that is useless.
It is a working dishwasher – Bought this dishwasher because of price and the cutlery draw idea. Been using it for about 3 months. Installation easy enough. We lightly rinse the dishes before loading the dishwasher, we only do a run every 3 or 4 days and don't like the idea of food scraps sitting for that long. We had some issues with detergent being left on dishes when… Read more

The Little Dishwasher That Could – Baumatic sells only through The Good Guys in Australia and the BDW65S costs around $600. I bought it after looking at a wide range of dishwashers costing up to $800 (and a few that cost a lot more than that). The BDW65S had the best looking design and seemed to be the most solidly constructed machine in that price range (I was focussed on build… Read more
quality because of the large number of faults that my last dishwasher developed over the last six months, all from cheap "designed to fail" components - it has been sent to the scrap metal merchant and a new life as a toaster).
The Baumatic is much quieter than our previous dishwasher (which was from a much better known brand). It has a one hour "quick wash" that we use as a default - full loads come out perfectly clean.
The bottom rack is well designed and will take a large number of plates and bowls. However, the bad news is that the bottom rack isn't quite big enough for 270 mm (10.5") dinner plates. The good news is that it wil take 255 mm (10") dinner plates.
The middle rack is a bit hit and miss. It has less capacity for cups and glasses than would appear to be the case at first glance and isn't deep enough or configured properly for wine glasses (which is an odd oversight).
The top rack for cutlery works very well for knives, forks and spoons which come up flawlessly clean each time. It isn't suitable for larger items that can be stood vertically in a traditional cutlery basket (but the bottom rack isn't compatible with a cutlery basket if you have one as none of the tines fold down).
Overall, it is a well designed and solidly built dishwasher that runs quietly and cleans well but does have a couple of limitations that should be taken into account. Good price. Good energy and water efficiency. Great lower rack capacity. 1 hour quick wash. Bottom rack not quite deep enough for large (270 mm) dinner plates. Can't take wine glasses.
Great dishwasher – Have had this for a few weeks now and it is fantastic. Cleans everything very well and it is extremely quiet. Quick wash (1 hour) has perfomred excellent too. Cutlery drawer is good. Only small qualm is that the runners could be a bit smoother, other than that it is flawless. quiet, water and energy efficient, cheap
Love it – Fantastic, after reading all the reviews and knowing our budget, I am so happy with the decision we made, its def value for money and was more than happy to come on here and give it a great review. cutlery draw, I was a little concerned that it would be a pain not being able to take the cutlery to the draw in the basket BUT I love being able to have them perfectly clean, and no food scraps if any where left on lying on the bottom of the basket. Love that I can grab them by their handles etc, mind you I always packed our old washer with all of them down for safety, so safety concerns are no probs at all with the draw, and did I mention I love it! as it also means there is so much extra room in the bottom. Love the bottom draw for being able to fit all our plates and and then I have left one side of the racks down and I fit all our cooking pots, frying pans there. Love setting the time delay for before I get up and yes the normal cycle is silly long BUT it is so economical, so I dont mind at all. I found its best to leave it for a good 15 mins prior to opening to then shake excess water off then leave to dry, pretty sure my old one only had so much steam coming out of it because it was so old and element was exposed, so its not as great with heaps of heat to help drying process. The volume of the cycle end etc is super quite and not annoying at all, if anything could be a tad louder.

Great price for a dishwasher with cutlery drawer – Purchased this dishwasher in January to replace my 10yr old dishlex.
