Water, water, everywhere! (especially on the floor!) – The complains about water leakage are correct! A one Star rating is too high. A defective product...shame on Bissell. Too much water left on the floor so I will be heading back to the spray and mop to do the floors. The mop has been used less than a dozen times as it leaves too much to clean up. Show details
Avoid at all costs (doesn't deserve even one star!) – This is one of the worst products I have ever had the misfortune of purchasing. It spilt water everywhere and kept turning itself off. After several (failed) attempts over a few days to get it working properly, I rang the Bissell Customer Support service line, as instructed in the operations booklet. Sadly, no-one answered ... ever. I tried… Read more
calling many times over the course of the next two months (it was the festive season when I bought the mop) and spent long, long periods on hold. I also attempted several times to leave a message on Bissell's web site, but on each occasion 'message send failed'. Finally, I took the mop back to Harvey Norman's, from whence it was purchased, and described in detail its lack of build quality and performance. Once the mop was tested in-store, I was believed and given a refund. Nothing: it was useless. Everything: it was useless.

Horrible item. Waste of money – I have now owned two of these horrid mops. The first initially stopped working for a few minutes, then worked on and off for a few weeks more and then died completely. The second has just done the same. Both died exactly after 1 year and 1 month of working (I am not a heavy user and the mop gets used once per week to clean a smallish 3 bedroom… Read more
house). I should note at this point that the warranty is 1 year and so when they inevitably die Bissell wants nothing to do with you.
Now to the mop performance itself. As was previously mentioned by others, it leaks terribly, leaving puddles on the floor. The water storage falls out all the time and when mopping the floors are left with streaks and completely wet. Whilst the mop is meant to stand on it's own, the bit that holds it is quite flimsy and it will often just topple to the floor. Floors are left dull and to be perfectly honest, the tougher staing are not well lifted even after getting the steam for 30 seconds. The microfibre pads are of poor quality (both the actual cleaning part and the elestic that enables them to be attached to the mop) and hard to change during the cleaning as the mop is still very hot
All in all, this mop will do a tolerable job for 1 year but don't expect it to work too long past this, which for a $200 piece of equipment is not great value for money The start up time is 30 seconds so you don't have to wait long after refilling or replugging. The water tank can be refilled without having to unplug the mop Both mops broke exactly 1 year and 1 month after purchase whilst the warranty is only 1 year. The mop leaks and leaves the floors very wet. The microfibre pads are of poor quality and often won't stay on. The mop is not very stable
Excellent – AWESOME product! I've read some of the bad reviews and I honestly wonder whether those reviewers aren't just bagging the product to sell another brand...:P I have had NO problems with this mop - it does a brilliant job of cleaning the floors, with little effort. Even my husband likes mopping with it! I like the steam trigger as it allows for an… Read more
extra boost of steam when you need it (eg. those marks I managed to get out on the tiles!), otherwise you can press it every few seconds if you want - no need to hold it down permanently - and it's a soft trigger, so not at all tiresome on your fingers!
And no, I don't work for Bissell :) Cleans very well - marks that had been on my tiles since we moved in that I couldn't remove with a regular mop and detergent, was removed completely just by steaming a little longer on that spot! Leaves the floors feeling fantastic under barefeet with absolutely no chemical use! May leave streaks on floors (depending how dirty they were to start with), but with my tiles, no matter what I used in the past there were always streaks, so this doesn't bother me at all - the floor feels squeeky clean! Cord a bit short, but easily resolved by using an extension!
Excellent – I would thoroughly recommend this product. It has made mopping so much easier. I used to dread mopping, but this makes it easy and fun! Just in regards to some negative comments I have read from others - I purchased the green coloured model, it was bought in Dec 09 and is the same model at all the major retailers; when I press the trigger, the… Read more
steam constantly releases (it is a little loud, like having a kettle constantly boiling!). Also I don't have a problem with the cord length - it similar size if not longer than my run of the mill vacuum cleaner cord. It won't do your whole house without unplugging, but it will do a pretty decent size area. I love my steam mop. It is so easy to use, I used to spend a long time mopping with my normal microfibre mop and it was hard work (worse than going to the gym)! We have a large tiled area and a puppy who likes to bring dirt in from ourside, so it does a great job with tat! With the steam mop, I can give it the same clean for about 1/4 of the time that I used to, or I can spend the same time and give a super thorough clean. I am constantly amazed at the amount of dirt that comes using this mop! It would be good if the water tank were a little bigger. It will last a fair while, just depending on how thoroughly you clean and whether you keep pressing the steam trigger the whole time.
Also, I find that because it does such a thorough clean, the mop heads get dirty pretty quickly, which means either washing them out regularly while mopping or buying a few extra and then having to wash several. This is bad in a way, but I guess also good (at least the dirt is coming out!!). Also, if your floors are really dirty and you don't change the mop head, you will find the dirt will just get re-distributed and can leave streaks. At the end of the day, it still works as a normal mop - it doesn't suck the water/dirt back up so if you want to avoid streaks, get extra mop heads or wash the ones that come wth it out regularly. As I said, this is a sign that the product is working much more effectively than a normal mop!
Positive reviews
USE THE MOP CORRECTLY AND ITS BRILLIANT! – I've loved using my well built Bissell steam mop for nearly 5 years and It's a real shame to read all these very negative reviews which people have used to instantly diagnose the very common issues that I see you all are having. The trigger of the mop is not supposed to be held the entire time you are mopping! Its to give the regular injection of… Read more
fresh hot steam only every-so-often. Ideally, hold the trigger as you push the mop forward and release as you come back over the same area which is still quite hot. If you over-use the trigger you will release too much steam and water, end up with an overly wet streaky floor and very quickly need to refill the tank which is what is written in all of these bad reviews. It's a real shame that a good product is getting a bad rep simply due to operator error. Well built, easy change filter and nice design. Needs to offer better instructions and advice to users in product guide and online.
Great machine bissell – i have a bissell mop,and i like it very much.It dosent leak water, the only reason it would leak is because the actual pipe bit you insert into the container, obviously the rubber around that part has cracked or worn out.Mine once had that problem, and water leaked. Now its working good since i got the little pipe fixed.Only problem with mine is,it… Read more
leaves streaks marks on my wooden floors. the steam,it got the dirt off the floor. once the clear pipe that goes into bottle, well the black rubber seal cracked, then it leaked water, but now its fixed,
Good enough for me! – This is my first steam mop. I am quite happy with its performance. I have used it at least weekly to clean a large area of ceramic floor tiles for about three years now. I use the trigger to create steam and wet the pad and clean an appropriate area. I find that if I have too much steam it leaves the floor too wet, so don't use too much steam. Lightweight , easy to use , easy to refill Handle is a little loose. Tried to tighten it but unable to.
Negative reviews
Really handy until it started to leak! – I was very happy with my steam mop until now. It's leaking water everywhere, which makes the floor super wet and the steam is not hot anymore. It is really quite annoying...now it's just a normal mop except its much heavier! It lasted for a year, not worth the money. It was really good while it lasted! The floor was always really clean after use. Steam was hot. easy to mop. Not too heavy. Didn't last for long!
Mine works OK – Was given this mop as a gift, and surprised to see so many negative reviews. I find it comfortable and produces steam ok but does seem to leave a fair bit of water behind but not as much as a normal mop. Mine doesn't (yet) but I do now have to hold the water container in place with a good sized rubber band or it just fall out from the mopping… Read more

You have to use the trigger on and off to keep the steam at its best or you will overload it and you will just get water coming out. The feel, cord could be a bit longer, small not very secure water container
A waste of money – I bought a $10 steam mop at a garage sale which broke recently. I love my steam mops and went in search of a replacement. The first one was a Phillips which continually kept dropping the water container and so I was convinced by the girl at Harvey Norman to buy the Bissell one. What a waste of money. I LOVE MY STEAM MOP! – I have had my Bissell steam mop for around 5 - 6 yrs now and I love it. I have lent it out to family and friends who all love it as well and have gone out to by their own. I haven't had any of the issues that other people seem to be having (user fault I'm guessing, not product fault) If you use the mop correctly and don't over use the trigger… Read more

The only problem I have ever had with mine was lending it to someone who did not look after it, put dettol in the resivour, left it in and lost my microfibre mop pad so as a result I had to call the customer service line replace the resivour and cap and filter and order some new microfibre pads.
Customer service for Bissell are so helpful and problem was solved very quickly and my steam mop Is still fighting fit. Everything
So disappointed – I am so disappounted with this mop. My first mop was replaced under warranty within a year and the replacement has also died within a year. Was not overusing it, used it weekly. My friend has been through 4 Shark steam mops, so would love to know a reliable brand. Looks like its back to the bucket and mop for now.

Terrible...waste of money – This would have to be the worst mop I have ever used. The floors have to be dried with a soft dry cloth after you finish mopping because the water leaks everywhere and the mop head gets too wet. The steam function generates too much moisture if you use it and makes the floors too wet. This makes dreadful water marks all over the tiles making… Read more

Doesn't work – This is my first steam mop, and I am very disappointed. I have already called and had the water component replaced, but it still leaks. Terrible horrible device – Doesn't steam properly, water goes everywhere and takes forever. I am so disappointed as I bought it to help clean a large amount on tiles and it is completely useless. I have ever owned a steam mop before and no one will ever convince me to but another one. Ugh! Leaks like a sieve, doesn't steam properly
Pleased it is just not me! – Pleased it is just not me who has a problem with water leakage leaving the floors very wet. My first Bissell Healthy Home Stem Mop Max went back after about 6 uses when the unit heated up so much so that I was afraid it would go on fire! Could not hold my hand on the unit as it was too hot. replaced with a new one. However although the replacement does not heat up like the first mop, the amount of water leakage is not acceptable. I have tried using the steam trigger both on and off and neither seems to make a difference. Would not purchase Bissell again. I actually purchased Bissell as it had come out as top recommendation from Choice. I also find the unit rather heavy to the point where my wrist beings to ache. It does actually make a good job of cleaning the tiles but not worth all the water it leaves behind. Leaks water, heavy to use.
waste of money – this steam mop leaks water out of the holder and leves the floors so wet i was dry moppng after so as not to leave water mark everywhere. even though the filter is no where near used and i clean the mop heads after each use i find it has a weird smell to it too. please dont waste your money on this mop. water copntainer leaked. leaves floor way too wet resulting in water marks all over tiles.
Expensive Garbage – This product is a total joke. Purchased on a whim after my Kenwood mop died and regretted it ever since. Leaves floors completely wet (its drier if i mop by hand) and does not seem to shift footprints of smudges of my ceramic tiled floor. Does not clean anything from grout lines, and unless you hold the steam button down there is no steam, and… Read more
without 'steam' it won't clean. The microfiber pads become so saturated that they don't effectively clean the floor. i liked the look of it as it seemed solidly built, and was very easy to refill, however since it does not clean that's a moot point. Seemed well built Expensive, time wasting, useless product
hi was your kenwood good?
Wouldn't recommend – Whilst I do find that it cleans the floors, I wouldn't recommend to anyone unless they have time to clean twice. This steam mop only produces steam if you depress the trigger and if you do that it leaves your floors really wet. If you don't follow up with another dry cloth then when floors dry they are left with water marks all over them. I do… Read more

I then gave it a second chance, and only pressed the steam trigger when I was pushing the mop (let the trigger go when pulling the mop back), and I have to say the result was excellent. Floors dried within a couple of minutes and were streak-free and very clean. I'm glad I gave it another go before I returned it! reasonable price, sturdy, cleans hardwood floors well. a little on the heavy side, did not come with instructions on how to use it properly.
Do not buy! – We purchased this mop without doing any research about it. Big mistake. It is crap. We bought it for almost $200 and it is really worth $10. Great price – I really enjoy using my steam mop. I have a big tiled house and this appliance makes my life a little easier. It took about 6 goes on the floor to leave the floors looking great. I have found that it leaks a little from the water filter so ill have to have that looked at, But over all im happy it makes cleaning my floors more fun! the water leak annoys me
Good – Cannot really fault this product. I love it. It does exactly what I want it to do...clean the floor without too much muss and fuss. the dogs trek into their tiled alcove. If you are doing a large dirty area, it is a must to give a vacuum or sweep first otherwise you will be pushing wet accumulated dirt and hair around. I also have more then 1 microfibre cloth as a dirty area will soil the 1 cloth too heavily to be effective when you get to other areas.
Excellent – best thing I ever bought , cleaned my white tiles perfect. The bathroom ones have never looked so great, steam on demand is terrific. Easy to use and heats up quick after the first inital use where it has to get through the filter. nice long cord, floors are not only clean but dry quickly , no puddles of water and no streaks, Can't wait to use it again kathy does what it says very happy

water canister in place. I will not accept that.
I returned the product only to be told it was my fault.(it fell over while the girls was telling us this!) i tried to call the Bissell from the number on the website - no such number. I looked it up through yellow pages and Sunny from Bissell kept saying how i did this to make the breakage happen and that i did that to make the breakage happened and that it is not a warranty issue and there is nothing he can do and then when i complain more because he was putting all the blame on me, he hung up on me.
I cannot believe i paid money for this product. and the time i have spent on explaining what happened and the blame they have reversed onto me - its upsetting and I swear i will not buy another bissell product for as long as i shall live. They still have the mop in the shop, i got so upset i told the girl to keep it. i should of spent that $200 on my children, I should of returned it when i had the chance when i initially rang to say it was leaving streaks on my floors, how you get the chance to return a product because you were not given the right 'sales' info, but not allowed to return it when it breaks through no fault of yours but the fault of bad design? refund or offer a credit note. There seem to be too many bad reviews for this not to be a bad product. Warning - do not buy it.
FYI - Returned the product back to the store and they gave me a full refund, no issue. I highly recommend The Good Guys (Frankston). Lightweight, easy to use No steam unless trigger is held permanently (contrary to manual), leaves excess water all over the tiled floor and therefore doesn't dry for 20 minutes, doesn't clean dirty floors or marks on the tiles, water tank empties quite quickly and also drips.
They are just a heap of garbage. Thought by paying the extra money I would get a quality product...............WRONG!!!!!
Steam mops can be great, but don't buy this one – I was terribly disappointed, as I consider $239 expensive for a mop, even a steam one. had a 'major problem', because the product failed to meet the purpose for which it was purchased. There were also at least two claims on the box (floor will be dry in seconds, mop cleans floors) that the product failed to meet. Armed with a printout from the ACCC and the Good Guy's refund policy, I set off. They treated me with respect, but had to ring Bissell to 'authorise' the refund. Fortunately it was just after 5pm and everyone from Bissell had packed off home for the weekend, so the Good Guys offered me a swap for the Monster (Italian, like a Kenwood, but with velcro microfibre cloths). They also threw in some extra cloths. So far the Monster has been good - great steam, super fast drying, easy to switch cloths and a streak-free clean. It's a pretty green This appliance is not a steam mop. It's more like a garden hose. I have used a variety of steam mops in the last ten years and the Bissell 1867L is a joke. My floor was so wet I could have just poured a bucket on it. Without mopping up after the 'mop' my floor was covered in streaks and water marks. It looked far worse (and dirtier) than before.

review for steam mop more carefully, I would have gone for the kenwood one instead which everyone reckons does a far better job and also costs bit less money. It looks stylish, is aasy to use, long cord (5m), only use water no chemicals. Good size water tank. I only need to refill once to clean the whole house. Comes with 2 thick and quality mop pads which are easy to put on and take off and they can also be washed in washing machine. Can also steam clean the carpet with the carpet fresher (sold separately put very cheap). The cord can be very annoying. Because of where they place the cord on the unit, it seems to get in your way all the time. It leaves a bit of water/streak on the floor and therefore takes a bit of time to dry. It also leaves wet dirt trails on the floor which i think will happen the same with all steam mops and even normal mop if the floor is dirty so you will have to carefully clean or vaccumm the floor prior to steam clean it.
