Does what it's supposed to – I cannot believe all the negative reviews. This machine is rubbish on hard floors, but on carpet... As a domestic cleaner, this is by far the best carpet vacuum I have ever had. It is also excellent on upholstery and is so good at removing dust from pillows, blankets, doona's ect (via the garbage bag method). I use this machine to prep carpet and… Read more
upholstery for cleaning/shampooing too, and it really improves the result. If I encounter a really dirty area with loads of loose fluff and debris, I will vacuum up the debris with my shop vac first so the Bissell can focus on doing what is does best, removing dirt and hair from carpet. For those who want the foot notes, Pros: - Excellent filter that is super easy to clean and maintain - The rotating brushes improves the look of carpet every time it's used, even old gross carpet and rugs get better and better - Brushes never clogged with hair - Easy to empty, clean and maintain - Superior results in carpet and rugs to any other vacuum cleaner on the market today - Xtra long cord - Sturdy construction - Most importantly, erases pet hair, human hair, cat hair ...
Cons: - Rubbish on hard floors - The hose attachment is difficult to use and often pulls the machine over. - The cord does get in the way (I throw it over my shoulder) - It is rather bulky and takes up space for a vacuum that is really only for carpets, rugs and upholstery. - While is gets close to walls, it has a large head and so you will need to use the hose attachment or another vacuum to reach tight spots or to get in close to furniture. Final thoughts: This machine is discontinued, but if you have alot of carpet and rugs in your home, with or without pets and you get a chance to purchase one second hand, I highly recommend you do. You will never regret it and neither will your carpets.
What a joke and major disappointment – For a vacuum promoting itself as pet hair eraser and 'smartseal allergen system', I have never paid so much for a more pathetic product. I had great hopes . The machine is heavy and not easy to manouvre on carpet. The cord gets in the way. The pet hair get caughts up high in the machine and it takes something long, sliver-thin and pointy to coax… Read more
the compacted hair glob out of the upper reaches of the machine. There goes the allergen seal!!! The muck I have had to fossick through to empty ALL of the machine, so it might work more effectively is beyond ridiculous. I have had long, tightly bound,sausage-like balls of hair spat from the machine as I vaccuum. The screaming noise from the machine as any one of the orifices within the machine is unhappy with pet hair being consumed is ear shattering.
Extremely dissatisfied – I bought this vacuum to help clean up the pet hair for the one dog I have. For the price I assumed it would really do the trick on carpet. I couldn’t be more unhappy with the quality of this product. Every single time you vacuum you have to lift up the base and let the clumps of hair, that don’t get sucked up by the weak suction, fall back to the… Read more
carpet and pick it up by hand. I basically have to vacuum and then clean up all of the dirt by hand. And yes, I have taken the entire machine apart to check for any blocks. Have only used the machine twice. Just terrible. Wish I could get my money back. Do not recommend at all.
Pet hair is not a problem! – As we have a fair few pets, we really needed something that could get the hair from deep in the carpeting. This one does the job amazingly! We've not had a single problem with suction or clogging. The vacuum works wonders around the house and is well able to keep up with all of the hair from pets and humans alike! Show details
Over rated – I struggle with this vacuum, the only item I like is the small beater brush the rest of the vacuum is big, hard to maneuver, hard to get into small places and the cord is constantly in the way I would not recommend this I prefer the shark or the Eureka over this model Show details
Not use friendly – Very heavy. Dumb swivel, hard to control cause of weight of vacuum so constantly hitting walls and furniture. Clogs and impossible to release clog without taking apart with screwdriver. Attachments are ridiculous and...you have to adjust vacuum height or it will not pick anything up on a wooden floor. Don’t do it! Show details
This is NOT a tangle free brush roller!!! – I have a Dyson and though it does a great job I get tired of always having to cut the air off the beater bar... so, I did some research and found the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser vacuum is supposed to do a great job and it has been designed especially to keep the beater bar clean from hair entanglement... not so! Five minutes of its very first use… Read more
out of the box the beater bar in fact is Tangled with tons of hair... in addition to that- there was some debris on the carpet some crumbs, Etc that the vacuum simply just pushed out of the way. The front part that meets the carpet is a bad design.. it does not allow for passage of anything higher than the carpet like to pass... at least easily.
I'm returning it total waste of money!
No suction hard to use – I ordered the pet hair eraser after seeing the TV commercial and the vacuum arrived within the 15 days. When we unpacked it, there was an obvious leak of the sample size febreeze solution, which soaked the manuals beyond the ability to use them and even ate through the box. We had to put the vacuum together without directions and figure out how… Read more
the additional tools worked. After a few minutes of struggling, we got the hand tools fitted to the vacuum and figured out how to turn them on. The hand tools worked great, picked up all the hair from the dog's bed and even made the couch look clean. Them it was time time to try out the upright vacuum in the bedroom. We had just recently shampood the carpet and the pile is of medium height. The vacuum was hard to get to work, couldn't get the handle to go down or the brush to work...then I figured it out and got to vacuuming. I felt the vacuum was light weight and swivels very easily around corners. The febreeze filter filled the air with a clean scent, somewhat displeasing as it is a bit too chemical rich. I found the correct height adjustment for my carpet, but the vaccine didn't suction, so I began lowering it and vacuuming until I got to the lowest possible height, labelled "bare floor." I didn't get any vacuum markings from it and began to physically push down while vacuuming just so I could complete the chore. I still had my 7 yr. old Electrolux in the closet and pulled it out to see the difference between the two machines. I was surprised how much better my almost decade old Electrolux was in the suction power and maneuverability of this much heavier product. The attachments from the Pet Hair Eraser worked great, but it is because I am pushing down on it and using my own strength to vacuum. This vacuum is terrible, no suction, and is not worth the cool attachments. I tried to keep an open mind and vacuumed two more bedrooms and the living room and I just became more and more disappointed with the machine.
If you have never owned a good vacuum, then this one will seem good enough, but I am not that person. I have owned many great vacuums and this one ranks as one of my least favorite. Don't buy this vacuum, it isn't worth it. Save an extra $70-100 & buy a great vacuum. I wanted to give an honest opinion in this review and the best part about this purchase is its refund policy.
Great Vacuum, lousy attachments – I have 3 Golden Retrievers so needed a vacuum that could handle lots of dog hair. After much research, I decided to try the Bissel Pet Hair Eraser. The vacuum I would give 4 stars out of 5. The main areas of my carpets are dog hair free. However, I still have to manually remove the hair next to my furniture and side tables. I was extremely… Read more
disappointed in the furniture attachment. When I use it on my sofa, the brush stops rotating, so I am back to using a dog hair roller to clean my furniture. The light on the nozzle attachment is nice, but the thickness prevents using this tool in tight places. Attachments only get 2 stars. The other positive is the short bristles on the rotator brush. I NEVER have to clean this which is AWESOME. Overall, I am only able to give this vacuum 3 stars.
A must have for pet owners – I have a 14yo cat who's always shedding. When I lived in Europe, we had an upright Hoover, but when I got back to Oz uprights were really expensive so I spent last 15 years with barrel vacs, but they're damaging to walls etc. and always getting plugged with cat fur. So bit the bullet and bought this monster. Wow, I wish I'd bought it years ago. … Read more
And the rubber tool is great for furniture, all the on board tools are great. My Hoover in London was louder - was like a plane landing, so this one doesn't bother me at all. I was stunned after the first use. I leave it plugged in and ready to roll 24/7 and use it with ease twice a week. No more twisting my back and bashing walls.
Amazing – The 1st time I used my new cleaner i was amazed as to how much was picked up It brought my carpet and rugs are brilliantly Def recommend The suction is the best I have witnessed for a long time Have always used an upright cleaner but for the last 12 months I had a barrel and hated it Used this with ease
The Beast – I've nicknamed this vacuum the beast..its a ripper! I have a roomba that i use daily but still need to do a "proper vacuum" once a week due to kids and an inside dog.. I had a hoover that had lost it's suction so I went vacuum shopping and came across this. I have never had an up right so i wasn't convinced but in my price range i was limited… Read more
(under $200) I'm very happy i bought it, but horrified at what came out off my carpet when i used it!.suction is fantastic!
OMG carpet is so clean! – Love how clean my carpets look now! It is cumbersome and probably the noisiest vacuum in the world but I'm still happy! I've tried 2 other vacuums with pet hair issues and so far, this is the best!

Don't buy it – This vacuum is great at picking up the dust and hair when it's working. We've had ours for less then two years and the motor has failed twice and needed replaced. I work with two other people who have the same vacuum and they have had the same experience. Plus it's heavy and the roller never stops moving so on hard surfaces it just flings the dirt around. Complete waste of money.
At last - a vacuum cleaner that really works on pet hair – I bought this because I have 3 vacuum cleaners that are hopeless.......including a Dyson. I have a golden retriever and a Cavalier King Charles so my house is permanently covered in pet hair. On the first run with the Bissell, It picked up every single hair and oodles of dust that I didn't know was there. In fact, I had to empty it after doing a… Read more
3m x 1m length of hall carpet.
Yes, the cord is badly placed and it's a bit noisy..........but it works and it works really, really well.
Worst ever! – I brought this after reading good reviews but I HATE this vacuum cleaner. It's heavy, the cord is constantly in the way, it can't get close to skirting boards or small areas, and worst and most importantly is just doesn't pick up the dirt. It pushes stuff out the back which hits you on the legs. I have brought $60 vacs that are better than this… Read more
piece of junk. I'd gone to sweeping and using it to suck up the swept piles. Just useless. Only good on carpet. Everything!
Needs Improvements – Its great for removing pet hair & great suction. I had the older model bought 3 years ago and yes after a few months it became noisy the cord got cut into by the roller when I accidentally rolled over it which is quite dangerous. The trouble with these is the belts life is short with repeatedly having to change it then the roller goes. This… Read more
happened twice the unit no longer was in working order.
I was charged by Bissell just to have a look at it the unit was not repairable therefore it could not be saved. Bought the 2nd unit Jan 2013 which is the new model. The wheels are too small and cannot be adjusted therefore not as easy to roll around & in four months the roller gave in. Extremely angry. Spent money on parts, etc then a spent more on another. Phoned Bissell & complained heavily. Got a replacement at no charge. See how we go! Does remove pet hair easily and suction is very good. New model wheels too small, cord easily damaged, belt breaks and roller soon faulters.
Terrific machine ! – With a maremma x kelpie housedog, this machine is the most amazing vac I have ever used. It simply eradicates dog hair like nothing else. I, unfortunatley sucked up a sock which stuck in the drive belt, smoked and broke it, however a new one is on the way. Besides this being my error, the machine has awesome suction, noise wise?... nah, its an… Read more
efficient vacuum cleaner, so no issue there. To actually see the amount of hair, dust, sand and dirt is alarming ! Why didn't I get one earlier! Highly recommend. it
Hose is tooooo stiff, not enough give when using crevice tools etc .... have tried stretching in the sun for a period of time however it is still quite stiff.
Too noisy, great suction, but too heavy to move around the house – We purchased this vacuum at Harvey Norman under 10 months ago and I have already sent it back to Bissell for repairs. Its unbearably noisy, even after pulling all the filters out and giving them a thorough clean it sounds like a plane taking off. Its also extremely awkward and heavy to maneuver around household furniture. I have been put off by… Read more
upright vacuums now for this reason. Amazing suction, I cant believe the amount of pet hair it pulls out of the carpet. Too noisy, my ears were ringing after using it. Its bulkyness makes it difficult to move around the house.
Fantastic for households with pets!! – I read so many reviews about this product and was a little unsure when i brought it- but i was amazed the first time i used it! This vacuum is fantastic! We have 2 malamute x dogs and they leave hair everywhere! Other vacuums simply overheated and pushed the hair around instead of sucking it up. The motorised brush heads on the bissell missed… Read more · 1
nothing and my carpet looks like new- better than when i moved in! All the tools are great and it vacuums on tile just aswell. The upright vacuum is so easy to manovure (not sure what other people are talking about?!) and I don't hurt my back bending over! The dirt container is very easy to remove and empty ( no annoying filters that get in the way and I can wash both of the dual cyclonic parts in the sink- very easy to keep clean. Overall I would highly recommend the Bissell Pet Eraser to anyone who wants fantastic clean carpets! inexpensive. picks up dog hair EASILY! easy to clean, move and empty. motorised brush head not only on main vacuum but also on smaller attachment- superb for cleaning dog hair out of the car! Spare filters and parts are easy to order and not expensive! A little noisy - but honestly who cares if it does its job. The cord takes a little getting used to if you have had a barrel vacuum previously, but I just hold it in my other hand- no problem. People who vacuum over the cord- seriously how the hell do you do that ( do you vacuum with your eyes closed!!???)
Great cleaner for price – Really lifts the dirt and collects the dog hair. Easy to empty. Yes a bit noisy and yes you have to learn how best to manage the chord - no big deal. This is a lighter, niftier version of the old Amway cyclonic cleaners of the 1980's which in those days cost $1200. So if you want a great value cleaner that really does the job this one is great.… Read more
However for those who are mechanically challenged you will need to regularily clean the beater roller and remove wrapped around threads or long hair. Actually Works, bagless, not too heavy, price. Bit noisy
Great value for a powerful clean and the pet hair hand tool is amazing – Yes it's a bit noisy but the first time I used it after my old Hoover cannister the amount of hair and dirt it got out of my carpet was humungous! Every part is well made and does what it's supposed to, easy to put together. I like the handle on the hand tool part. Easy to empty, don't let it get too full and it won't spill when removing the dirt… Read more
catcher. No complaints, best of all a great price from Harvey Normans, only $238 for a really powerful upright with on board easy to get at tools, they clip to the outside. Oh yes and the cord is long enough to do the whole house with one plug in. Inexpensive, powerful, efficient

OK – This vacume cleaner really cleans carpet. The brushes lift the pile and I was amazed how much dust it picked up on it's first vacume. In fact I was a bit concerned at first that it was so powerful that it may be damaging the carpet but it does seem ok now as it is picking up a more normal load of dust. One problem is that you cannot stop the… Read more
brushes spinning when using the tools. This leaves a mark on the carpet where the vacume cleaner was stationary for a period of time so I now put something under it when using the tools. When vacuming, the brushes tend to pull the machine forward so you have to fight with it a bit hold it back. Overall, this machine really gets carpet clean but the peanality is it is noisy and difficult to manouveur. Great suction, really cleans carpet. Too heavy and hard to maneuvere. Noisy. Cannot stop brushes spinning when using hand tools.

worst purchase I have made – Buyer be ware! The money I paid for this machine, I could have bought 5 cheap ones that perform more efficiently than this bulky piece of junk. Everything is wrong with this machine,to overheating, clogging filter,no suction, hair just wraps around brush, the list goes on and on
Terrible – above says it all but because I am limited to use twenty words please consider investing in a alternative product. sucks really well where the machine goes over 3rd time I used it I ran over the cord when it got in the way and it cut into it - life threatening!!!!!, burn marks where matt got stuck in the rollers spinning around. to pick up the few bits of kitty litter crystals outside kitty tray and now I can't get rid of the smell of cat urine out of my very new and very expensive machine. It doesn't pick-up along the small stuff along the skirting boards and I gave to constantly use the hand held nozzel to do the job. Very heavy, unforgiving, inconvenient, troublesome and dangereous machine that is also very messy to empty. Would I buy it again -- Nooooooooooo!!!!

Good – Overall, after using a Kirby, I believe this vacuum can do just the same and is just as effective. I liked it that much my sister in law also got one and she loves it. I bought this vacuum after selling my Kirby. I love this vacuum. Easy to push around. Will lay completley flat to go under tables or beds. Can turn the rotating brush off if… Read more
cleaning hard surfaces. Bagless technology is great, easy to clean. No dust when cleaning. Has attachement to do lounges, edges and brush for curtains. Strong suction. Detachable canister makes work easier when cleaning the car or taking it to the shed. Hose could be a little more flexible. Im always dropping it on the floor as I extend the hose too much to reach. Need to clean all 3 filters after each use as the vacuum will stop running if over heats. But this takes 2 min. No biggy.

Did Bissell explain why it was so noisy? Did they fix it and is it better? ta
