Excellent product – After owning my steam mop for many years it finally stopped working particularly as it seems most of them now either don't last or don't do the job well. After much searching I decided on the Bissell Crosswave. The first attempt I was left thinking I was going to have to return it as I was most unhappy with the result. I now love my Crosswave… Read more

as it picks up dust and lint whilst washing my hard floors and I have a LARGE area to clean (lots of big white shiny tiles in most of the house and dark grey in the bathrooms, toilets and laundry). The Crosswave does a great job at keeping them all looking clean and smelling fresh. I do still miss the undeniable germ free cleanliness of a steam mop and am still toying with the idea of purchasing one to use for alternate cleans but the fact the Crosswave saves me from having to sweep or vacuum my hard floors prior to washing is fabulous.

while it is out I also use it to vacuum the bedrooms and if there are any little spots that need a little freshen up this beauty does that to (just be sure your chosen floor cleaner does not contain bleach so as not to damage your carpet and no I am not suggesting this product is suitable to steam clean your entire carpets).

I find the Bissell Crosswave easy to use and with a large hard floor area I only need to fill it once with hot water still amazes me however, I do empty the dirty tank about half way through cleaning my house.

Make sure to following the instructions to clean it after each use; again a quick and easy exercise that will help ensure your next clean is just as good.

Good luck and happy cleaning.

Great carpet cleaner, love it – Have had this item for about ten years. I probably clean the carpets in my unit every six to eight weeks. It seems to be as good as it ever was. I have a small dog and it cleans everything . I really wouldn't want to live without it. I thoroughly recommend this product and if and when it eventually dies, I will buy Bissell again! Show details

Not Happy – Worked a couple of times and then would not suck up the water, spoke to customer care - they explained how to fix it - still did not work - sent to Bissell - returned back and worked a couple of times and then stopped sucking water again. Fedup. Have not used since. Bought a new Hoover. Show details

Better than professional cleaning, yet be prepared to be patient and dedicate some time to the cleaning – After having terrible experience with professional cleaning services I decided to invest into my own machine. We have a white carpet all around the house (upstairs and downstairs). The carpet in the downstairs area gets pretty dirty given the everyday traffic, cooking, walking to the back yard etc. I had previously also rented a machine from… Read more

Bunnings. I must say, that this one does way better job!

Pros:

1) Easy to assemble. 2) Light and easy to manoeuvre. 3) Price is reasonable, and you will get your money back in just two cleaning sessions, as professional services or renting the machine cost $200 on average anyway. 4) The machine does get out even heavy stains if you follow the process (vacuum first, spray the pre-treatment, go slowly and couple of times over the stain). 5) It comes with multiple tools, so you can clean skirtings, areas which are hard to reach, stairs, hard floors. 6) It sucks out most of the residual water, so on a good day your carpet is dry within 1,5-2 hours easily!

Cons: 1) The biggest pain is the water tank. You literally must change and refill the water every 5-7 mins. 2) Given the aforementioned fact, you will go through your cleaning products quickly. Although you dont need much of it, you will go through the whole bottle easy if cleaning large areas. 3) Cord - although long, gets in the way. You need to learn how to hold it asside, so it doesnt interfere with the cleaning process. 4) Connection to the tools is a bit tricky and if you move the body (by pulling the hose) aside, it stop sucking the water back. You have to keep an eye on it and ensure the connection on the body is still upright.

Nevertheless, for $399 this is a great machine which will revive your carpets and fill your home with freshness!

Good - till it needs attention – 1. Carpet fibres and dirt are well extracted - but a lot of the muck accumulates around the rotating brush area, and in the clear plastic through. So cleaning the machine itself takes rather a lot of time due to all the nooks and crannies. 2. Common complaint is "no spray". You'll find plenty of these complaints on Google. The pvc tubing which… Read more

delivers the fluid to the hand tool clogs with gunk. For "no spray" to the rotating brushes you are in for some work, because there are so many possibilities. Bissell will have you back for an expensive service. ($49)(plus parts?).

Because the machine is designed to be sleek and contained, with no visible working parts (like a car) that also makes it hard to service. THIS IS THE MAIN FAULT WITH THE MACHINE - not that it's overly complicated, but rather that it's near impossible to quickly access it's main parts, and then reassemble.

3. Would I buy another one? No - for the above reasons.

4. Would I buy another if it were easy to service? Definitely, because I like clean carpet.

5. It's capacity to do more than HALF of one small room on one tank means you need to get used to refilling.

6. The flexible inner bladder with takes the hot water/mixture will collapse over time and this can lead to small amounts of dirt getting into the clean water part - this can clog your spray.

Conclusion? A good little machine which does what it is supposed to, but limited workhorse capability due to design being focused on "looking good".

I love a good Bissell! – I bought this machine also after doing extensive reading and research. We had adopted a new puppy that had accidents on our carpet. occasionally projectile vomits (to add to the mix) and it isn't an issue to spot clean this either. Sorry for the sharing of information but I have found this machine very good for dog wee, poo and vomit, along with my husband spilling red cordial on the cream carpet.

I haven't had the chance to use the hand tool feature for the stairs and furniture but will give it a go shortly. I will provide an update when I do.

The only drawback is the size of the water tank. To do a small room takes several tanks, but I agree with other reviewers, a bigger tank would make this machine too heavy. You also need a storage cupboard or room to store this machine. It isn't tiny. But I suppose if you commit to buy this machine you would have considered the storage.

Overall, I love it! Worth every dollar!

Amazing carpet cleaner – This carpet cleaner and extractor works great. The machine is really great but the parts cannot be cleaned easily and wont come apart enough, not even to get a pipe cleaner into the suction head to free it from clogs. You will only use the machine once In a while. By the time it clogs up, its out of warranty. I only used it about four times and it stopped squirting out the water. What a beauty! – We bought our Bissel 3 months ago and have given all our carpets (except the shaggy rug - trying that just seems unrealistic if you have any understanding of mechanics) a thorough cleaning. The detergent seems to go quite a long way, too. The carpet really has been rejuvenated - marks removed, pile unflattened and the slight musty smell that some rooms have when shut for prolonged periods is all gone. We have cleaned several small areas after spills/marking and that was easy to do. Very happy with this machine.

advertising suggests and

- never read the manual anyway

then this is an excellent machine (if ANY ONE of the above does not apply see below).

It is beautifully designed. For example, although reasonably heavy (as it has to be to do its job) it is beautifully balanced with a handle placed where it can be carried (relatively) easily. It is quite easy to move around to do the vacuuming. The cord can easily be wound around for storage. The filling and cleaning mechanism of bladder-inside-bladder works well and is easy to see the current state. It removes the most amazing amount of garbage from the carpet so it does its stated job excellently.

Overall (if you meet the criteria) an excellent machine that works well.

Bad review – one star

If you

- have any carpet with long/shag pile or

- want to use your own much cheaper chemicals such as those used for washing clothes or

- want to clean your carpets only once or twice a year or

- expect the device to clean the area in the advertising or

- want to read the manual

then this is not for you.

Mine is two years old so maybe they’ve improved but..

The manual that came with mine is the worst I’ve seen in decades. I didn’t think that current printing/copying technology was capable of producing something of such poor resolution. Then there is the content – well there isn’t the content actually. What is there cannot be read and doesn’t make sense anyway.

The machine is not designed to be easily user-maintained. Using it for shag pile will eventually break one of the two drive belts. All parts are expensive. The manual doesn’t tell you how to change the belt. Changing the belt requires removing a part that is screwed on with a steel screw directly into plastic – so there are only so many times you can do that before the screw Is going to just leave a hole.

The machine cannot use non-manufacturer-supplied chemicals. I used standard laundry chemicals that work on all sorts of lightweight materials such as cotton, polyester etc - only to find that the bladder-inside bladder “melted” as if I’d used acid and I had to buy a new (expensive) one.

The machine is relatively expensive to buy. If you’re only going to clean your carpets once or twice a year it is far more cost-effective to hire a (semi-professional) machine from your local supermarket chain. It actually does a better job anyway.

In practice you have to go over the same area of the carpet many times to get it “clean”. The quoted area is for a once-over so expect only a fraction. I found one bladder would do a small room adequately but anything larger required multiple refills to get clean.

Good job 5 Star – Read the manual.. then use the machine ! I was moving the Bissell too quickly. Use their shampoo products as the results were fantastic. Stains from the humans and dogs lifted out of the carpet, and the colour of the carpet returned with just one use. The deodorizing worked and everything smelt fresh and clean. Came with four sample size bottles of cleaning liquid, two for carpet and two for hard surfaces. Can't believe how clean my carpets came up. They look like brand new again. Carpet was dry in a couple of hours. Very impressed. I actually found it a joy to clean them and this machine didn't make it feel like a chore like the big ones you hire from the supermarket. Only pain was emptying the water tank frequantly but you got use to it and it was so easy that it didn't bother me in the end. Easy to clean up afterwards. I was so impressed by this machine I will be recommending it to all my friends. provided is a bit iffy !

This model is the fresh water bladder within the tank , don't bother with trying to use the cap in the lid , far easier to use a small jug to put the solution in. DO NOT use as much as they recommend , half that will do the job ! I also used the pre-treat spray and feel that made a big difference !

Use very hot tap water and take your time , its not like vacuuming , you need to go slow ! You can see the water being sucked up ( and it's yuck ! ) , just keep going until nothing seems to be coming through and Viola ! Clean , fresh smelling carpets ! I was truly amazed , my carpets had NEVER been cleaned and were pretty bad , especially in our son's room & our front lounge that had some major staining.

Very easy to empty , there is a "mouth" at the front where you can drain it , I just give it a rinse out with hot water to get rid of all the gunk.

Make sure you vac first , take your time and don't over-wet the carpet. I did go over some areas twice , and am still amazed by the result !

My model is quite heavy ( we have stairs ) but easy to maneuver once you get going .

There was solution supplied in the box ( 2x bottles of Stain & Odour Remover & 2x bottles of Hard Floor Cleaner - both sample sizes ) and 1 bottle lasted me 5 rooms !

2 weeks on from using my machine I can honestly say I am extremely happy with it and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking to purchase ! Solid build , easy to use - both water tank & operation of unit. Water tank could be a bit bigger , but them it would make for a much heavier unit !

out of the carpet and left it looking good. Began cleaning a couple of sections around Midnight, was fully dry when I awoke at 8am the next day, in Winter in Tasmania !! So I then proceeded to do the whole house as I had been concerned about it not drying quickly enough in winter here (not all rooms are heated). It sucked back just over half the liquid I put in the tank, and the carpets felt wet during it, and were well washed and dried without issue. The dirty tankwater from where the Old black haired Dog sleeps contained black hair, dirt and filthy water. I even went over this bad area again the next day just to see if it was all up it had been so dirty compared to other parts I cleaned. To my amazement the liquid sucked back up the next morning in this area was so much cleaner, it barely had any tint in colour at all. So I could have just done the one clean of it the night before as it really had cleaned so effectively. The easy change tank system is so simple, it stops any dribbles back and forth across your house and comes in and out of the machine so easily without frustration or fiddling. Good cleaning chemicals too. I like that it has Scotchguard. Thanks Bissell. Very good clean, simple to use. Excellent tank idea.

would be nice if the cup came out of the lid. Emptying and rinsing the tank is a breeze. I empty and rinse outside and the hose on low pressure helps remove a lot of the fragments that may get caught up in it really well.

Overall I have found this machine to be nothing short of brilliant. I have 3 pet sheep who come inside the house. While they are house trained, they don't always make it outside in time. If there is an accident, the Bissell cleans it up with ease. Due to dirty feet, I wash the carpets every 2 weeks and they come up like new every time.

My carpets are old....VERY old and should've been replaced years ago. The pile was all flat and there were grubby stains all over the place. The pile now stands high, even in the high traffic areas. The grubby stains are no more.

If you are looking for a carpet cleaner without wanting to spend a fortune, then this is the product for you. Just be careful with cleaning solutions initially as using a non Bissell solution can void your warranty. I got mine on sale at Harvey Norman for $249 and it's the best money I've ever spent. It has paid for itself already. Easy to use. Relatively lightweight. All the accessories are on board. Tank easy to empty and refill. Nice, long power cord. Small tank. Fill cup is awkward to use. Neither of these things affect the overall performance, they are just me nitpicking.

I didn't even use a full tank of water (considering people say its too small). Im not scared anymore of what my son/cat could do to my carpet as I feel I'm prepared to deal with anything now I have this machine :-) inexpensive (was $579 down to $298), came with 2 x bottles of hard floor cleaner & 2 x bottles of carpet cleaner. Easy to put together & use straight away. Carpets dried quick & easy to clean to put away & store the machine. Fairly quiet machine

Worth every $$$$ – Purchased this one weekend to spot clean my carpets, the very next weekend I put my sons bath on and went to cook dinner.....25 minuets later...yes you guessed it the bath was still running & it had flooded my sons bedroom. It was at lest 2 inches high, after a moment of sheer panic I ran to the laundry and grabbed my bissell cleaner and got to… Read more

work...3 hrs later I had emptied over 50+ containers of water!!. It did still take a week for the carpet to dry completely but I had saved my carpet...or should I say my bissell carpet cleaner saved my carpet!!!

Update:

Has anyone had a problem with the black screw cap that goes on the water container splitting ....not the insert with the mesh but the screw bit? Our has like a mm tiny split and it will not screw on anymore and is unusable?

Can anyone tell me if it has a 1 or 2 year warranty? I'm hoping that good guys have a purchase receipt as I can't find mine anywhere, I'm hoping it's a 2 yr as it's a year and a half old"......i can purchase a replacement part for $20 but would like to know if this is a common problem and even purchase 2 one as a spare if I must. Thanks I think it has better suction than my $600 Dyson. Nothing really....water tank is a bit small but then it's a small machine.

Perfect for pet owners – I bought the bissell power wash carpet cleaner because i was sick of hiering from supermarket as i own 3 dogs and i is a puppy with lots of accidents i needed to be able to clean up instandly this machine is great for that as i wouldent be able to run to a supermarket every day and hire a machine the carpet dryes very quickly as well The tank is a bit small for big jobs but this is a anoyance and does not affect the way it cleans
