ABSOLUTE WASTE OF MY HARD EARNED – This is the crappiest waste of money Ive bought. I thought Bissel made a quality product and was sadly mistaken.Used LESS than 10 times in total to spot clean and its blown something and dropped the circuit breaker in the meter box. Never had the opportunity to try it properly because the overpriced chinese made pos gave up already. Im never… Read more
buying one again and will go back to hiring a shop carpet cleaner because they did a decent job in the first place. This was below average at best and in hindsight just a gimmick toy to waste your hard earnt cash on for a broom cupboard ornament. Now to throw it out onto the road to run it over with the car a few times...Maybe its function is landfill and something to hole a tyre when run over...
Absolute lifesaver – It is a great little carpet cleaner and we have owned it for more than 3 years. However, it really saved us when there was a leak and it flooded the carpets upstairs. We got it out and for the next 2 hours, managed to suck up all the water. The carpets were damp but it has saved us a massive clean up bill and possible long term damage (fingers… Read more
crossed). We definitely recommend this machine as it has kept our carpets clean as we have a dog and now, saved us from disaster.
Worked at first now can’t get it to spray solution – I got this awhile back I have area rugs that I clean. The suction power is great but after cleaning the machine from top to bottom I can’t get the spray to work. The spring is not broken. Probably why they discontinued this model. I know it’s old but have used it 3 times to clean my rugs. Show details
In-depth reviews
Almost perfect – I purchased this unit to clean rugs in my lounge room, not a whole house of carpet, so my expectations are different to some other reviewers. For cleaning my rugs it is perfect. I cleaned a rug that is vacuumed daily and was surprised at the dirt it brought out. Didn't have to work hard - just run it over a few times. My rug now looks like… Read more
new. I must say too, the rugs were dry in no time - they were not soaked by the cleaning.
And when it came to emptying the dirty water it was great. Like other reviewers I previously used a Vax wet and dry, and it was always a chore to dis-assemble the Vax and heavy to empty the water out. The Bissell was a breeze. Unclip both sides and just remember to keep the "back" with the drain hole top-wise.
Did I mention the dog. As advertised, this carpet cleaner handles dog hair well. All dog hair on the rugs was removed - but see my comments on cleaning the carpet cleaner below.
Some reviewers have commented that they found the water storage too small. For cleaning rugs the way I do, the water capacity was sufficient. However, I can understand if you are cleaning a whole house, you may have to replace the clean water container and empty dirty water containers multiple times. But in my opinion, it is so very easy to replace / empty these containers - this wouldn't stop me using this unit for larger areas.
I also tried the cleaner out on my bedroom carpet. Old and very dirty, the carpet cleaner couldn't restore the pile, but still brought a lot of dirt from the carpet. I am still going to regularly clean that carpet and see how much it can take out.
Defects -
1. Cleaning unit of dog hair
2. Hard Floor Tool
Although it is very easy to empty the dirty water container of water, dog hair gets into the nooks and crannies of the dirty water container and wrapped around the power brush. You need to get the dirty water container under the kitchen sink and really flush it through with water to get the wet dog hair out. You can't just put a bit more water in and roll it about - a couple of minutes flushing it out and swirling water about is required. Getting the dog hair from around the power brush is even more of a problem. Unlike other Bissell models (according to the instructions), with this model you can't pop out the brush, and you need to fish out the dog hair by hand - very messy wet dog hair. You'll also need to cut out any longer hair with scissors that has wrapped itself around the head.
I will remember to vacuum the rug before cleaning next time to cut down the dog hair before I start wet cleaning it.
Hard Floor Tool - total failure. I just could not get this tool to stay attached to the unit. I'm sure I was following the instructions but the latch mechanism was not strong enough against the "spring" in the cleaning head. Luckily this is not why I purchased this unit so I am happy to bin this accessory.
I have only purchased this recently, so I don't know if I'll get the water leakage problems others have experienced with longer term use.
PS Marked all over the paperwork is "DO NOT RETURN THIS PRODUCT TO ITS PLACE OF PURCHASE". I'm sure this a misleading (and therefore illegal) statement under Australian Consumer laws. I've asked the ACCC to clarify this.
So far so good – I've used this unit for about 4 hrs now on commercial grade thin carpet. I think this would work well for cleaning _recent_ stains and spills. But for cleaning older stains it does take a bit more effort. Non the less, it did end up cleaning 90% of the stains all over the unit, its passable. There were some stains that required additional… Read more
spot spraying and manual scrubbing multiple times to get rid of.
Types of stains:
Dirt - Good, both old and new stains
Milk (kids with feeders) - Good! both old and new stains
Chawk - Good
Used Cooking Oil - OK, requires multiple passes and spot spraying
Washable Markers - Some spot clean required.
Dired up Potato found under the kids bed > 1 year - Difficult, it can't do
Any stains > 2 years old - impossible, change carpet
Don't think its value for money for $250 - $280 , having a look at other reviewers they seem to have paid $80 less which for that price I would be happy to give 5 stars.
Make sure you keep cleaning the underside of the machine so it continues to spray evenly across the carpet, I noticed that it clogs up eventually from carpet fur / pet hair. Hence very important to go over with a strong vacuum a few times.
Alright, but maintenance disappointing – After using my first Readyclean Bissell Powerbrush, the trigger broke, so returned it to the shop and, under the 2 years product care agreement for which I had paid extra, was provided with a replacement. The first time I used it, to cover a smallish area, it was fine and I was really pleased. However the next day when I used it, I noticed less… Read more
mixture went onto the carpet, so, although it was a little damp, it obviously wasn't penetrating the fibres. The carpet is a wool Berber. After each use I cleaned it to the best of my ability; however there were many areas, particularly around the rotating brush, that were impossible to clean as it was all connected by screws. I have just used it again, and, once more after covering around a couples of metres of carpet, less liquid appeared to be coming out and the container was was still half full. I thought that perhaps the feeder nozzle was clogged; however the only way to see was to remove everything, including the screws. At last I was able to give all the parts a thorough clean, however, after all that, there was nothing wrong with the nozzle.
Also, as another reviewer mentioned, the so called User's Guide is pretty useless. The photos are an abomination! Being in black and white is not helpful when trying to distinguish the different parts especially on the Cleaning After Use. The photos are so small and the rest of the page blank; where is the sense in that?
I am exhausted and feel it is hardly worth all the hassle. An expensive lesson, I fear.
Positive reviews
Fantastic results – I have such clean carpets with a risen pile, soft and dry within an hour. Excellent value. The water tank was so full of dirty water it proved the necessity of shampooing carpets a must for hygeine. The hard floor cleaner did a fantastic scrub on mt tiles and a simple wipe with mop dried them easy. Not just another gadget it is an asset. Show details
A Good Price On A Carpet Cleaner – This Bissell is easy to use, does a great job of lifting deeply soiled grime out of carpets and since it is a wet vacuum, it works well to remove odors from carpeting. I also use it to clean hard flooring when needed since the extra water does a better job of removing soils from laminate and other hard flooring. The vacuum is strong so it… Read more
lifts back up most all of the water, I tend to really soak soiled carpets to get them good and clean, and with that it makes a thorough job of getting things clean.
Well worth the money.
Bissell experts in home cleaning – I am very happy with this product as this is easy to use . cleaning evry parts of this product adter is is very simple. Assembling is so easy. can do hard floor cleaning.can clean carpet stairs etc.If we follow the safety instructions we can use it for long.I love it. Show details

Product didn't last long before breaking! – I purchased the Blissell Carpet cleaner/ shampooer a little while back and it was a mammoth mistake. The product barely lasted 3 months before breaking. The hassle making a claim with warranty simply wasn't worth it, so in the end I opted for a more reliable/known brand and haven't looked back! Show details
Try something else – I have found this product to be quite disappointing. I only used it on rugs, we have no carpeted rooms. We do not have pets in the house. I have sent it for repair twice. It has taken a long time and this second time has not been repaired at all, but I have had no contact for 6 weeks until I initiated further inquiries today. I was scrupulous… Read more
in using the machine according to instructions and in cleaning it after use. In the absence of repair, I am using my Vax Steam cleaner which I think is doing an ok job. I can not recommend this product.
Crap for the price. Buy a cheaper on for the same quality – This thing is a ridiculous design. Near impossible to clean machine after use. Save your money and buy one 1/2 the price for same crap. I guess it cleaned alright but I think that was more to do with the hoover pet plus detergent. It left the carpet a bit on the wet side. Pretty easy and light to use just crap to clean. Show details

It’s good – I use my cleaner probably only once or twice a year and it works well. The only con is that the water runs out quickly so you have to refill a few times and the cord gets in the way. The last time I used it I was happily going back and forth over my large rug to realise the rug still felt dry! The water wasn’t running through properly. I did… Read more
some trouble shooting and started again which was not a problem. I also own the small cleaner for spills etc which works great for me.

Quite possibly the most useless appliance I have ever bought – I bought this primarily for cleaning pet areas and high traffic, carpeted sections of my hallway. On appearance, it looked like a lightweight, easy to use machine that would save me from getting down on my hands and knees to scrub the carpet whenever someone had tracked dirt from outside, or when a cat chose to display a dislike of a meal by… Read more
disgorging a semi-digested mess. This machine spills the contents of a small tank of water (with expensive Bessel cleanser added) onto the carpet, then proceeds to noisily suck up a small amount of the water into another tank with no perceptible change to the carpet other than wetness and shrinkage. I tried the hard floor fittings on my ceramic tiled kitchen and succeeded only in flooding the area. I feel that this machine was a waste of my time and money. If I can’t get a refund I will put it on the hard rubbish heap as I would be too ashamed to offer it for resale.
Refurbished is no guarantee it is fit for purpose – I only use it to clean up cat indiscretions on carpet in the corner of a couple of rooms. Not impressed with the suction or result. Purchased refurbished product from Bissell online, expecting it to be working. It did a so-so job a couple of times then failed on several counts e.g. it stopped squirting, the hand tool fell apart. Phoned Bissell… Read more
and they were very helpful, emailing a postage label to return the product. I was hoping they would return another one and the warranty would reset. However they repaired mine and returned it within a week (Vic to WA).
Useless -- malfunctions almost immediately – I bought my first one on a special at Godfrey's about ten years ago; the electrics packed up after about four uses. They immediately replaced it, no arguments. the new one lasted about three or four uses, then packed up. I went to Harvey Norman and bought a new one for $422 (February 2014). I have used it about six times; it has packed up -- the… Read more
valve is broken and the water plus detergent just leaks straight out. It is out of warranty so I am trashing it and never buying Bissell again. There is a built-in problem here: because cleaning the carpets requires moving all of the lounge room furniture, it is a once- or twice-a-year task, so by the time you've used the machine five times it's out of warranty.
Gets lots of dirt out carpet – Works well and cleans lots of dirt out of the carpet. You need to use fans or the heater to dry the carpet within an hour. I use it on my mats also and they stay nice and clean. I’ve only ever bought Bissell as I’ve heard bad reviews on cheaper options. Show details
Unfortunately the fault with leaking kets this down – I have had this for a couple of years, as a cleaner i love it, but they have a fault (and when i googled it it seems common) where the spring comes off the trigger mechanism and causes the valve to stay open, then flooding the floor. I pull it apart, fix it, then go to use it and again it floods the floor. Unfortunately mine is out of warranty… Read more
though its been happening for quite some time, i just keep pulling it apart and fixing it, frustrating. Maybe spend a little extra and purchase a better design, such a shame as otherwise its a good machine.
Water floods out – Great when it was working properly. But then something happened and water just kept rushing out even though trigger was not pulled. It did it intermittently at first so I put up with it but then it was all the time so I took it back to Harvey Norman and they 'fixed' it. Used it again and 1st time was fine but went to use it again and worked for a… Read more
minute then water gushing out again. You can hear it make a different noise and you know the water is flooding out so you have to try and be quick. I got an extended warranty at harvey norman so have to wait another year until the manufacturer's warranty ends so I can get it replaced under the extended warranty! Very annoying. Hope they have fixed this issue with the newer model because it appears to be a common problem with this machine!
Fantastic peoduct – Really lifts up dirt and cleans. Can see the colour of dirty water extracted from the carpets. Should have bought this long ago. It would be nice to have a slightly larger water tank. However, it's lightweight and less fatigue to handle with less water load too. Cleaning solution can be costly if used frequently. Great machine for pet accidents. Show details
Great for quickly cleaning up liquid spills – We have used this vacuum to soak and clean some spills (baby milk, baby food) from our carpet and its cleaned them with no troubles at all. Some of the stubborn stains required a pre soak with a non affiliated cleaner spray but the rest cleaned up very well. We purchased this as an alternative to paying a professional carpet cleaner to come and… Read more
clean our floors. Within a couple of uses we have already saved the money we would of had to pay the professional, granted the professional would of done a better job but this is a great item to have on hand for emergency spills.
This is good but need to fill the water very often – I am really happy with the performance and suction. It is very light not really quiet it is very easy to maneuver. I use this to clean my carpet, grey colour 1 bedroom apartment, it is a bit small for us, we have a baby so use it very often. Show details

Does the job – Cleans well and easy to manoeuvre. So far I used it to clean the carpets in the entire unit, living room and two bedrooms. I used it to remove coffee stains and wine stains as well. The bottle of water only sufficient to cover just about 3 square metres and should be refilled. A little difficult to clean after use. Apart from that, I've had no other problems. Show details
Hopeless! – Rubbish cleaner and a waste of money! Used it twice had to send it back as water was gushing out of the tank. They had it for weeks. Got it back used it twice and guess what same thing rubbish rubbish rubbish Never again Bissell ..... you use to have a very good name in the business, not now Show details
Excellent purchase – I only have floor rugs, but have pets. Finally tried my Bissell out and must say I am quite impressed by it's performance. Have been a longtime user of Vax barrel cleaners (30yrs) and this leaves the carpet clean and impressively dry. Very easy to use and clean up is a breeze (once I worked out how to empty the 'dirty' tank) Only just purchased… Read more
it during Master's closing down sale, hopefully it will continue to work as well as it has. - will amend this review if i strike difficulties like some of the others are saying.
Save your money – Major faults, water kept pouring out of the machine Bissell replaced the same part 4 times and the same issue continues. Took months at a time to get the part, so we use it a total of two times.. Now out of warranty period and they won't do anything :( Show details
Absolutely hopeless unit, leaks water all over my carpet – I have had this shampooer for nearly 2 years, only used it about 5 times in total, first couple of times it worked ok but I had dark brown carpets so it was difficult for me to see whether or not it was cleaning them properly. Moved into a property with cream wool carpets, they were soiled in places when I moved in, used the bissell on them and it… Read more
made them look worse than what they looked in the first place. Left wet marks all over the carpet even when dry I can still see water marks. I left it on my carpet with water in the canister and when I returned 5 minutes later there was a huge water stain under it. It is obviously leaking from somewhere so I have now been reduced to use it without any water in the canister and instead use a spray bottle and manually wet the carpets this way and use the bissell to suck it up - well this method doesn't work either as the suction is terrible on the machine and will only suck up very wet carpet. The attached hand held upholstery cleaner is useless too, tried it on my cream linen couches and it didn't make a difference, all it did was wet them and make them smell bad. Wish I never bought it, I have since hired the rug doctor machine and this has cleaned my carpets 100x better than the bissell ever did.
Best purchase ever – Stunning machine. I used it on older, flatter, pale grey carpet and it came up brilliantly. My main task, though, was a plush living room rug which has dogs on it every night. BOOM! it was filthy (who knew?) and now looks like the day I got it. A joy to use, too.
Cross Action Brush - Not Good – I needed to replace an old, leaky Vax so bought the Ready Clean from the Bissell outlet store online as an ex-demo which made it cheaper. Glad I didn't spend the full amount. The cross action brush is basically useless. I have gone over stains more than half a dozen times and can still see the stain. My old Vax had a power brush that spun, 2-3… Read more
passes and the stain was gone and the carpet was noticeable cleaner. I don't have a problem with Bissell but if you're going to get a carpet shampooer, at least get one with a power brush as they work 100% better than these cross action brushes that only move when you push the vacuum.
*Suction is good, brush is bad. Rotating power brushes are much more effective.
*Very light weight, good value when purchased as an ex demo.
*Cleaning solution leaves carpet 'crusty' when dry. Need to clean again with water only.
Great little unit – Our house has dogs inside so the carpets take a bit of a beating. This unit picked up far more dirt and dog hair than I imagined. I would even go so far as to say the results are as good as some of the bigger hire machines without the dramas of the hoses etc. Nice, compact, easy to use and clean. Well worth the money as it pays for itself after probably only two uses.
Excellent for the money – For the price $183 bucks it is a great little machine. Our carpets aren't too dirty only 3 rooms are carpeted but needed something to keep em clean and fresh. Its a little noisy and the tank is tiny but with 2 refills per room it does a spectacular job considering this is an entry level machine. I made my own cleaning solution (just to see… Read more
if it will work) combined a teaspoon of napisan couple drops of dish soap and disloved in hot water then topped off with half white vinegar rest hot water.
Did a better job then the branded stuff.
As mentioned in the other review only half wet the stroke otherwise its too wet.
All in all once again for the $ great little thing.
Best purchase ever – Living in a rental where the carpets were already stained and expecting baby no3 I purchased this in hope of clean and refreshing carpets. Wasnt I amazed with the results after one cleaning. I never thought the carpets were this dirty. I use it every week and love how fresh the carpets feel after each use
Great buy! – Read the reviews and though it was worth a try on our grotty carpets instead of getting a paid carpet cleaner in for about the same price. Fantastic results on the carpet under our dining table. It was able to remove stains that had been in the carpet for at least 6 months. Would certainly recommend. Easy to use, value for money, and good results. a bit plasticy but price is cheap probably as a result.
Does the job!! – Affordable, cleans well, overall great product :D, Couldnt believe the dirt that it pulled out of the carpet, great for those spills that just happen, I looked at alot of machines and im very happy that I found this one and its a bonus that I can clean the hard floors as well Water tank needs to be filled often, but what do you expect for a small tank
Rubbish – Purchased last week $180 what a rip off for piece of junk. The machine is a waste of money and time. Look for something better.

The broken part was at last replaced, but after a small amount of use the same problems emerged. Product is now in the bin. Do not buy.
