Broken blade support – Used it twice and blade roller support and adjustment screw both broke. Wouldn't recommend buying one of these to anyone. I have other Black and Decker tools and thought the Jigsaw would be a good tool. It wasn't. Even if I got my money back, I wouldn't buy another one. Show details

Not worth the bother – Good motor, everything to do with blade is substandard. Blade assembly broke at knurled screw. I don’t believe there is an easy way to replace it either. They don’t make them like they used to.

Worst Power tool i have purchased in 40 years – I know power tools are not made to last as long anymore, but this thing is an absolute piece of crap. I rarely use a jigsaw but i still wanted to buy a good quality one -wasn't i miss led. The blade support is a crappy cheap casting and broke after 3 short uses. I wont be buying any that has the B&D name on it anymore

Worst quality material broke the blade base in first use! – Very bad quality material used! First the blade cap broken near screws place then The Who blade assembly broke, in first use. Not recommended at all. Buy any jigsaw but black and decker Show details

Piece of junk. Crappy pot metal cast junk parts – Made of plastic and inferior grade die cast metal like you might find in a SMALL toy. Nothing of this size can handle actual plywood for components of this inferior quality. Might be good for cutting foam or cardboard, but useless for plywood. Parts shatter when cutting flat, clamped plywood extended over side of a 8 leg table/workbench. Not… Read more

even worth buying at a 99 cent only store (not even for the spare screws). Save your money for a better quality Makita or Milwaukee. Hey, if you wanna tool for cutting cardboard: let me know? I would gift this to someone who actually had use for it. But not if you might use it for wood because I dont want you getting hurt by imitation toys that look like tools being used as actual tools. Dont recall the actual date of purchase, I am about to rebuild it again (another blown cast part) and needed the diagram to put this complex but poor quality thing back together after a new part arrived from replacement parts.

blade support broke after using saw for the 5 time – withouth the blade support , the saw will cut but not worth it unless you don't care if the cut isn't straight. Don't buy it, get a Dewalt instead, I guess you get what you pay for....but I don't think this saw was even worth the amount they charge, I thought about getting the part to fix it.....cost isn't cheap.  Show details

Less than one year and 5 times usage – I bought this saw hoping it would be an enduring tool at a reasonable cost. To hell with that idea! The blade support is made of cast and broke in no time flat. Not even sure I want to seek repairs as it will cost darn near as much as a new saw. I highly discourage buying the jig saws until black and Decker can figure that using inferior materials is not the way to go.

Broken on second use – I also have the FS5500JSL laser jig saw. I used it once when it was new for a few minor cuts and then tried to use it two days ago and the roller guide broke off where it screws onto the body. What a piece of carp.

nice tool - but seems to have a fatal flaw – I have 2 Jigsaws - a 20 year old (at least) Makita basic unit, somewhat worn but has NEVER played up. The B&D I inherited is bigger, flashier, more powerful, better features - but after maybe 10 uses it has broken off the blade support lug (where the securing screw goes). Looks like I'm not the only one. Out of warranty of course.

DONT buy it!! – I bought this item and in 2 years, used it 3 times. I can not cut a straight line even with a guide as the jig head has so much play in it. I thought it was me at first, but there is at least 2mm movement in the head and nothing to tighten it with. I would have taken it back but it was out of warranty. I now buy Ryobi and will never buy Black and Decker again. Shame on you B and D, this product is rubbish

B&D Firestorm FS5500JS – This is a nice jigsaw to use but is of DIY quality. Beware if parts break, particularly lower control bearing. Parts are difficult to obtain and B&D repair section do not respond to enquiries about where parts can be obtained even though B&D claims queries will be answered within two business days. After three weeks of phone calls and emails, I… Read more

disposed of my B&D jigsaw and bought another brand (one where parts were available if required).

Control bearing broke. Only made of cast alloy. This bearing has the blade support attached. Difficulty in obtaining replacement parts from B&D
