Excellent For Making Quick Mild Coffee – I bought the Bodum Pour Over Coffee Maker out of idle curiosity. As we already owned a Breville Drip Machine, a KitchenAid Siphon coffee maker and numerous French Press/Plunger coffee makers, how different could Pour Over coffee be? Well, the answer is - Not Much Different. The Drip Machine we like a little bit better than Pour Over, and the Siphon Coffee maker a little bit better than the Drip Machine. But we actually like Pour Over a little bit more than the coffee from our French Press/Plunger coffee makers. The big difference, however, is that Pour Over coffee is much quicker to make and much quicker to clean up afterwards compared to the other methods.

USAGE. The instructions say to put a level scoop of medium-coarse ground coffee for each 125ml cup into the filter holder. Then to gently and slowly pour the hot water over the ground coffee. Which means using three and a bit scoops for the two 200ml cups that my wife and I usually drink. Unfortunately, there are no cup markings on the body of the coffee maker jug, so I just estimate that 500ml is at half way of the spherical bottom part of the jug, and to put in a bit less water than that.

The unit comes with a stopper plug one puts into the jug for when pouring the coffee into cups. I've never used it.

To make sure I get hot coffee, I put hot tap water into the coffee maker and the cups first, to make the glass hot, then tip it out just before doing the Pour Over coffee making.

If one doesn't have medium-coarse ground coffee, one can get away with using ground coffee made for Moka machines and not for Espresso machines - which is either written on the side of the packet like with Cafe Aurora, or any Italian coffee which has a Moka machine on the packet. But one needs to pour more water and make more coffee, so as to leave the dark fine sediment at the bottom of the jug, and throw it out after pouring the good coffee into cups.

Cleaning up is simple, tap the grinds out of the filter holder into rubbish or compost, and rinse it and the jug.

EXTRA NOTES. People with Espresso Machines may like this Bodum Pour Over maker or any of the other similar types I've mentioned here for another reason. Occasionally one buys a packet of coffee beans that one just doesn't like. Usually one can get away with blending the beans in with better tasting beans, but not always. I had a packet of beans that wrecked the taste of any others I blended them with. But it tasted okay when used as Pour Over coffee, and I finally managed to use it all up.

One can also buy the Bodum Pour Over coffee maker in the smaller 0.5 litre size.

CONCLUSION. I really didn't think I'd be impressed with the Bodum Pour Over Coffee Maker when I bought it, but it has turned out to be a bit of a hit in our household. Regards.
