Bosch Series 8 Built-in Dishwashers Questions & Answers
Verifiedwhy did our series 8 totally break down after 4 years
Does the door automatically open for the BOSCH SMS8YCI03E? On the buyers website it is written that yes the door will open but on Bosch's own website in isn't listed as part of their Auto Air collection.. confused rn
Hi What is the difference between this model and SMU8EDS01A?
Hi, if you cut n paste into google you will find descriptions. I read that the one we purchased was integrated the model you ask about is stainless steel.

I have purchased a new BOSCH Series 8 SMU88TS02A to install in our new kitchen. Within 2 months of using it I noticed rust spots appearing on the external door & panel. Now, 5 months in, I have many rust spots & am struggling with Bosch customer support as far as getting the problem fixed. They sent me a cleaning kit to use, which hasn't worked. Next step - they have agreed to send someone out to look at the problem and fix it if possible. There was a suggestion that the rust has appeared because of the rain/ humid conditions we have experienced !! I am not convinced of this as I also have other new appliances (not Bosch) that have stainless steel fronts (fridge / oven / microwave) & none of these have rusted in any way. The Dishwasher performs well functionally. This experience however has not been good. Has anyone else had the problem ?

Hi, I already have a call in with the Bosch team (hence my comments in the review above) & have provided a Proof of Purchase to them. FYI - Ref no: A25148153
Hi Athina, I have similar problem with Bosch dishwasher too, can you please let me know how did you go with your request? Seems like quality issues with Bosch. Thanks in advance
Hi Prad, Bosch came out and replaced the front panel & polished it with a specific cream product they have. Advising me that if the problem recurs, I should do same. It is a few months now & nothing has recurred. Will wait to see. If it does happen, I will ask for the product to be replaced or refund as that should NEVER happen (and hasn't to any of my other stainless steel appliances).
Thank you for the quick response and good to hear ur problem was fixed.I will raise a request with Bosch.
We have a 4 month old Bosch Series 8 dishwasher. Has anyone else with this dishwasher had an issues with cockroaches getting into it and onto the motherboard? We've had the motherboard replaced twice, and the technician says there is no way of sealing off either the motherboard or dishwasher casing to stop them from entering. After the first replacement, it started misbehaving again that night, which indicates that not a lot needs to happen to the motherboard for there to be an operating problem. I'd be keen to hear if anyone else has experienced a similar problem. Thanks, Lisa PS: Our area has a terrible cockroach problem: it's not that our house or kitchen is particularly unclean!
Yes, I’ve had the same issue, not covered under warranty and only 10 months old
Thanks Rachael. I think there must have been a problem with the motherboards as there have been no issues since the second replacement which would be close to 2 years ago. Push them to do it under warranty. Luckily, the technician I had said he would do it under warranty as the dishwasher was so new, but he did tell me to spray our house for cockroaches (which we didn't do for health reasons). Good luck
Hi I bought this dishwasher to replace my old Bosch SHV55M43AU The only problem is the door off the old fits perfectly but once attached I can not open the dishwasher all the way as the bottom of the door hits the base of the dishwasher. If I chop the door down it will be shorter than all the other cabinets in the house? Any ideas of what to do?
If it's not far off, maybe you could just taper the edge back so if fits
No chance about 5cm needs to come off, can’t even pull the bottom drawer out to fill
I’m guessing Bosch does not have an answer, my brother has the same issue with his too
Sorry for the very late reply, hopefully you have resolved this issue, when choosing an integrated dishwasher it really needs to fit the cabinet kickboard height and setback , if the kicker face along the dishwasher run is removable a slot can be cut in the kicker along the width of the dishwasher to allow the cantilevered section to clear the kickboard.
The height of the dishwasher can also be adjusted up or down to suit the cantilevered part , so adjust the dishwasher down and the panel up to match the door heights either side , this reduces the underhang distance but will leave a void above.
If your kitchen is new your cabinet maker should have calculated this prior to cutting. More often than not, this is overlooked by cabinet makers and architects or designers don't consider the limitations of a specific dishwasher. Depending on your kitchen style a dishwasher filler panel is sometimes fixed above the body behind the door to allow for the reduced height.
There are many similar problems with all brands of dishwashers and these are designed with little forethought. I build approximately 50 kitchens every year and this is an ongoing issue that never seems to be resolved.
I'm not speaking on behalf of all cabinet makers here but they are not always the most informed intelligent bunch despite the precision and degree of difficulty and mathematics involved in building a quality kitchen that is completely functional.
I have a Bosch and am actually appalled at how poorly it cleans. This machine has done less than 100 washes and not one has produced satisfactory results. This is a two thousand dollar machine and I have had to hand wash everything that goes in it. I'm not sure if I perhaps got a lemon but I'd certainly be interested in hearing other opinions regarding its performance.
If you have not resolved the issue with the door and it so happens you read this post, feel free to comment and I will try and help you to resolve it.
If a representative from Bosch reads this and would like to comment I would be happy to hear from them regarding the lemon I own.
Anyway good luck.
Hi, I can't get as straight answer from any technical manuals online or out of sales persons in store regarding the SMV88TX02A.
We are having this dishwasher integrated but the rest of our kitchen will have no handles, there is a 20mm shadowline at the top of the base cupboards. How does this dishwasher open between cycles after it has been closed? Is it push to open or will I need the cabinet maker design some sort of finger grip to be able to pull on it?
Yes - we have a handle like a draw handle. It doesn't open itself as that slight opening would release a lot of steam onto the cabinetry being as its a built in. It will dry with the door closed or you can open the door fully and let the steam out i guess. Also you will need to have a gap in the kick board at the bottom so that you can see the light display which shines onto the floor and tells you how long to go , where it is in the cycle etc. They should have made this display adjustable and it would have been a bit better. Here;s a link to the exact version I bought - the manual covers off on a few different versions - essentially mine has a faceboard attached to the front of the dishwasher with handle as described to match our cabinetry external link Not sure You may get away with the 20mm shadow line if a grip or rebate is made so you can use your fingers to grip the face board and pull the door open. cheers
I will get my new Bosch fully integrated dishwasher, SBV88TX06A, this Saturday. I'd like to ask, my under bench actually can fit up to height 880mm, but there's a panel attached underneath. Therefore, it maxed up to 860mm height and I just realised the dishwasher that I recently bought was 865mm height. Do you think I still can lower the base height to 860mm?

Hi, I bought this unit and try to install my self, found it comes with installation drawing but has no installation instructions, can Bosch provide one?
Hi Mike Lee, Thanks for your question regarding your Bosch Dishwasher. The only written information regarding installation can be found on page 6 of the user guide. This information is to be used in conjunction alongside with the installation guide, however if you need further support please contact our customer care line on 1300 369 744. Kind regards Bosch Home Australia
Looking to buy one of your dishwashers. Noticed that John of Bathurst made the following comment "We just purchased this dishwasher it cleans great and is very quiet the only down fall is even though it is an under cupboard model and the specs say it is suitable for 815mm-850mm & 845mm-880mm bench height it isn't it only comes with a 75mm toe kick panel and our cupboards have a 120mm kick board there is a 120mm toe kick panel on the bosch site but after ringing bosch spare parts Australia they cant order it as it is an overseas only spare part so now we are stuck with a big ugly 45mm gap at the bottom of the dishwasher with white plastic feet showing for the price you would think it would come with suitable install parts or at least be available in Australia." We will have a 950 bench top, and wondered if you do have taller kick panels to ensure we don't have a gap.
Mine didn't seem to work at all and searches didn't reveal any help so I ended up making my own kick board out of melamine skirting board. And the rubber stick on skirt kept falling off and I couldn't see the point of it so I didn't bother trying to make it stay on.
Thank you Mho. That is helpful.
Hi, Thanks for your question regarding the Bosch range. Sorry but we don't have kickpanel accessories available. Most of our appliances a designed to fit with your cabinetry and have a kick panel matching your cupboards installed with the right dimensions. If you need any more help, feel free to contact us on 1300 369 744. Regards, Bosch Home Australia
Thank you. :-)
My main criteria in selection is the ability to dry plastics in real life (not the promo version). Miele have auto opening doors at the end of their cycles to vent the moist air but I can't find that feature on the Bosch line up (apart from eco dry). I am not confident in the Extra Dry cycle in some Bosch models to dry a mixed load of plastics and that then leads to Zeolite drying with the expensive SBV88TX06A. Is the Zeolite drying a better option than the end of cycle open door for a complete drying of plastics?
Hi Neil, Thank you for your question regarding the Bosch dishwasher range. Whilst we do not have research information that compares Miele Auto door opening vs. Zeolith drying, Zeolith drying is our advanced drying technology that helps dry plastics effectively. More on this in the link below. We have Zeolith technology in a wider range of models in Siemens i.e. SX578S01TA and SX678X11TA which are also Tall Tubs (same with SBV88TX06A).

My old Blanko had a fan that run after the cycle. It didn't completely dry but it was close. Unless I open the door of the Bosch shortly after cycle ends everything is sopping wet and has to be left to dry for hours or hand dry before emptying. I use the extra dry but that has little or no effect. Very disappointed in this machine that seems to do nothing more than a cheaper base model.
Thanks Mho, it seems that the open door with fan for the last part of the cycle is the best way of eliminating condensate on plastics. I'm just trying to find if the zeolite drying which absorbs condensation whilst releasing extra heat is equally effective. I'll be cranky if I buy a Bosch or Siemens with zeolite and still need a tea towell.
Neil M what did you end up going with ? zeolite ?
My wife & I went with the Siemens with Zeolite drying and whilst we were impressed with the drying capability, we only used it a few times before returning it to the store as the basket layout functionality was not to our liking. We then purchased a Miele model that pops the door at the end of the cycle and have been generally very happy with that. There are still times when not all of the plastics dry but when packed properly it's satisfactory. I would buy a Zeolite again if all other aspects of the machine suited us.
Hello, does this model have AutoAir? And is this same as door automatically opening at end of cycle? Many thanks, Stephanie
No
Thanks. Which models do?
Hi Stephanie, We don't have any models in Australia with the Auto Air function, we're unsure what this option does. Our range here in Australia can be viewed at external link . If you need any more help, feel free to contact us on 1300 369 744. Regards, Bosch Home Australia
Does this dishwasher have a separate rinse cycle
Hi Jean F. , Thanks for the question regarding your Bosch dishwasher. The rinse cycle is a part of a program and cannot run done by itself. If you are after an additional rinse for your utensils, keep in mind some programs have a 'pre rinse' cycle which is a great option. If you need any more help, feel free to contact us on 1300 369 744. Regards, Bosch Home Australia
I am renovating my kitchen and designing almost all units to have no handles. Is SMV88TX02A (fully integrated) push to open? If not, how do you open it without a handle? Or does the door panel need to be cut / manufactured differently and how different? Theres is very little information out there on this. I have seen the Bosch series 8 european dishwashers are push to open. Is this not the same?
Hi Jon TW, Thanks for the question regarding the Bosch SMV88TX02A Dishwasher. The door is designed to open automatically at the end of the program. The door self-closes when below a 20 angle. If you need any more help, feel free to contact us on 1300 369 744 select option 4 for our care line Regards, Bosch Home Australia
So if you want to close it, but not use it (part loaded) and you want to open it to put more in how do you open it?
Hi Jon, This appliance is designed to be used with a handle. An actual handle or a cutout of the panel would be necessary. Your cabinet makers would need to be asked if the cutout is possible for your setup. You can download the installation manual to show them via external link . Regards, Bosch Home Australia
Does it have a finish notification and if so does it require any action to stop it?
Hi Les, Thanks for the question regarding your Bosch SMU88TS04A. This appliance does not have this function. If you want an end of cycle notification you would have to go for the Integrated model SMV88TX02A. If you need any more help, feel free to contact us on 1300 369 744. Regards, Bosch Home Australia
We are still researching and yes we do want an integrated model and the reason for the question was that we do not want that feature where the dishwasher beeps continuosly at the end of cycle so you have to open the door or take any action to stop it.
Hi Les, The semi integrated SMU88TS04A does not have the end of program signal and the fully integrated SMV88TX02A has a single buzzer that can be turned off and has lights that signal the end of the program as well. We hope that helps with the decision. Regards, Bosch Home Australia
Hi! I am looking for my 1st dishwasher from Bosch or Miele. Miele seems too expensive, but I am concerned about why Bosch has no auto open door function? I plan to use it mainly in late evening, so it would be perfect if after drying with zeolite, door would automatically pop open to let room's dry air dry completely machine and dishes. Has anyone using Bosch regret not choosing other brand with auto door pop open function?
Nope, I definitely don't regret my Bosch purchase. I find that if i use a good setting, eg Auto Wash, the dishes dry just fine with the door closed. I never find wet dishes when i open up the door the next morning (unless something tipped upside down!) My Bosch dishwasher is my favorite appliance:) - extremely low maintenance and effective, with no mechanical issues.
Hi, I am looking for a dishwasher that obviously washes and dries dishes well but also has facility to place and clean Tupperware type plastic containers without them turning upside down during the cycle.
Also, I am single as yet so not too many dishes pile up and as yet I don't cook daily so don't always have big pots and pans. I saw somewhere online that Bosch has dish drawers - do you? i couldn't find it on your site. I am not very keen on leaving dirty dishes in the sink till there are enough dishes and pots and pans to load the dishwasher. Any suggestions for this scenario? Thanks.
Look for half load option. Our old Bosch had this ability, in which case you just use the lower basket.
I noticed that the built under model isn't finger print resistant whereas that stand alone version of the series 8 is.
What are your thoughts on the finger print marks?
(Quite a concern for me given I have two little kids)
It isn't finger print resistant, but not too much.
Hope this can help.
I havent noticed any finger prints on ours and , until recently, we had 4 kids living here. To be honest I didnt even know about the finger print thing. our machine has had a hard 6 moths washing daily for 4 adults and 4 children and I suppose I am just grateful that it has handled the pressure so easily.
I'd be more concerned with the cleaning capability than the kids fingerprints: the manufacturer takes care of the former. The latter is inconsequential - unless you are OCD
Do any of the Bosch dishwashers come with both cutlery drawer and basket?
Hi Mchelle, Thanks for your question regarding the Bosch SMU88TS03A Dishwasher. Our dishwasher models come with one or the other, however if you purchase a model with a cutlery drawer you're able to purchase a cutlery basket separately from our After Sales team.
If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact our After Sales Support team on 1300 369 744 during business hours.
Regards, BoschHomeAu
I would assume that they come with one or the other, not both. My one has the top shelf drawer, but other models do have baskets
