Perfect results every time, exceptionally quiet – This is our second series 8 Bosch dishwasher, the other model developed a loud pump after about 7 years of very heavy use, so it was moved to the alfresco kitchen where it still provides perfect results every time. I love the look and features of the SMU88TS02A and find the underbench model looks better than the free standing unit we had before. The controls are also easier to figure out, and the interior light is a nice touch on top.

The interior racking has improved, with more versatility and a Tardis like ability to fit dishes in, and the adjustable middle rack makes it easy to accommodate taller dishes below, or taller glasses above. I also have to mention that Bosch's cutlery trays are far better than any other I have used, allowing cutlery to fit right to the edges, leaving more space for serving spoons etc, and also allowing thicker handled cutlery if needed. As others have mentioned however, my only gripe would be that the bottom rack does come off the runners a bit too easily.

I'm glad of the addition of a 60 minute cycle as this caters for slightly more soiled dishes than the 30 minute cycle, although I do miss the rinse only feature. The wash times can seem a little long, but this is due to the auto sensing programs and I often find they start to reduce in time once the machine has figured out how dirty they are. The programs themselves are spot on with cleaning, and the intensive zone is brilliant with heavily soiled or baked on dishes. Extra dry does as it says, and you can set it to be permanently on through the menu (which does add a little more time to the cycles, but worth it in my opinion). I also find the finish time handy (ie it will tell you it will be finished at 4:07PM etc) but I would like to also see the option of how long it has to go (ie 2.35 hours remaining) as well to avoid having to work out the time in my head.

The control panel looks good, and looks like it should be a bit more durable than our previous Bosch where some of the writing started to wear off - however, my biggest (minor) gripe with the whole machine is that the touch controls don't seem sensitive enough and often you have to touch the pad a few times to get a response.

All in all, another solid well performing dishwasher from Bosch.. just a shame there wasn't a 6 month supply of tablets with this one like last time!

Purchased in at Harvey Norman for $1,650.

Well, 4 years later and it leaks through the bottom of the door into the tray, triggering the flood sensor. Bosch won't come to the party and look at it so I'm now up for repair.

Time to switch to Miele I think.

Disappointed! – I have had this Bosch dishwasher now for 2 months and I am very disappointed with the quality. I was unable to be at the delivery and installation and left it to my dad. Some how there are multiple vertical scratches on the control panel. The front is easily marked and hard to clean. The front of the dishwasher is also extremely flimsy and today the cleaner accidentally dented it. I had a Miele for 10 years and thought the reviews for this dishwasher were very good and price was similar to Miele.I am regretting this purchase now. Its already looking tattered yet only 2 months old.

I wish there was an option for negative star ratings — this has honestly been the worst dishwasher experience ever. It seems to clean but surely there should have been a class recall on this dishwasher as none of my dinner plates, of several different types, fit on the bottom tray rack without preventing the arms from spinning. Dishes go in dirty, and come out pretty much the same. It’s noisy (despite being a super silence), horrible layout of dish racks, ridiculous third tray that now permanently lives in the garage, app is useless. We had a Bosch Series 6 Dishwasher which was brilliant. We use the same tablets as the old one (not home brand). Replaced with a Bosch… Read more

(even though I wanted to upgrade to a Miele but was overruled) and we both regret it terribly.

We wash more dishes by hand now rather than using the dishwasher. We are very clean people, we clean the filter before every load and we run a machine care cycle program once a month. Still trash.

Will never buy, or recommend, Bosch ever again.

Bad Basket Layout – Plates over 27cm's diameter must be placed in the centre of the bottom basket to avoid being hit by the upper spray arm meaning you can't have one row of plates and one row of bowls side by side if your plates exceed 27cm diameter. This means if you have plates over 27cm's diameter you can't use half of the available crockery slots on the lower… Read more

basket. Also, if you want to place 27cm plates on the side racks you need to push the middle basket to its highest setting which reduces the clearance of the top shelf meaning tall tumblers and wine glasses don't fit very well.

We found this out as we had some 27cm and some 27.5cm plates and the 27.5cm plates are getting hit by the upper spray arm.

If you have large plates you will need to wash more often as you will not be able to fit as much into the machine as you may be used to.

After spending a fair bit on what we thought would be a great dishwasher we are now going to discard our dinner plates over 27cm's to accommodate our new machine so we don't have to use the machine more often which would make it much less efficient. This is not what we had hoped for.

All of these plates and larger glassware used to fit perfectly in our Smeg machine that we just replaced after 18 years of faithful service.

Overall Bosch have tried to cram too much into the machine compromising its practical functionality.

The pictures show how much stacking space is lost when you are forced to use the centre stacking method when compared to the side-by-side stacking method

Other than the size issue it is nice and quiet and cleans very well though as one would expect.

If you have smaller plates and glasses then ignore all the above.

Bosch misrepresented maximum plate size for Bosch Series 8 dishwasher – The Bosch SMU8EDSO1A Series 8 dishwasher instruction manual states that it can take large plates up to a diameter of 28.5cm. This is not true. The dishwasher only takes 27cm plates. Any larger and the upper spray arm hits the plates. The retailer has said it is not their responsibility and to contact Bosch. Bosch returned our call, investigated,… Read more

and said they could do nothing about the problem. There was no apology or offer to replace the model or buy us a new set of dinner plates that would fit into the dishwasher. This is clearly a case of misleading customers with inaccurate information in the instruction manual (Page 23). Totally dissatisfied with the product as it is not fit for the purpose we bought it for - to wash our dinner plates which have a diameter of 28cm. We believed the salesperson that this machine suited our needs and neglected to check reviews, many which state the same issue as we discovered - large plates do not fit in the machine. We were told by Bosch that we could remove the top tray and they would fit, reducing the setting numbers the dishwasher was advertised at, plus waste of water, environmentally unsound and plain absurd. The phone representative said we would be contacted, via email, by Bosch informing us there was nothing they could do to address our concerns. A month later no email! We would never buy Bosch products again for these reasons.

Very new, cleans well but has some shortcomings – Only in use for a week so far and it replaced an Asko dishwasher. Immediate improvements on compare are in cleaning and low level of noise. Also the acqua stop is superior in the Bosch and the drain hose is much longer than the Asko. Height adjustment on install is simpler but does require a supply your own 13 mm spanner for front adjustment… Read more

and a robust flat head screwdriver fir a front facing adjuster for the rear.

The Asko has better height/ gap between trays than the Bosch ( ie large plates in the bottom tray should IMO not be centred as they can impact the spray arm under the upper tray. Controls and wifi connected apps IMO are better than Asko

The Bosch supplied kick panel at approx 70 mm in height - IMO is not a suitable size for the Australia standard for an under counter dishwasher which is 120mm in height.

For premium machine this is IMO a unnecessary, cheap and poor choice in this price segment.

Most in built DWs will be installed into a recess of between 870 and 900 mm in height. Adjusting the height of the machine is no problem but with the supplied kick panel the gap between the floor and the bottom of the kick panel is up to 50mm. A shocker really.

I did phone Bosch who advised that I speak to spare parts - presumably for me to pay$100 plus shipping for a part that should be supplied free of charge.

If you want a machine that out of the box is with a 120 mm kick panel then look to other than Bosch. The (former) Asko had a 120mm sound insulated kick panel

The instruction to install are not great but taking care a DIY can self install although the placement of the rubber apron that fits under the door of the machine is not described in the instruction sheet and it creates an issue with the fit of a kick panel.

Note. I have by phone contacted Bosch Customer care on the kick panel and rubber apron but without being offered any resolution but have sent a follow up email.

Very good dishwasher, tantalisingly close to excellence – When we moved into our new house, one of the first things I wanted to do was replace the dishwasher, which was a tired old non-Bosch unit that did a very poor job of actually washing the dishes. After a ten week wait due to the pandemic (a problem with most brands, worldwide), our shiny new Serie 8 dishwasher was installed in the space vacated by… Read more

the clapped-out Korean.

We'd considered buying a machine made by that "other" famous German brand, but after realising that the top-of-the-line Bosch was the same price as a middle-of-the-road Miele, it was a no-brainer to choose the machine from Munich. The front panel of the machine is very slick, as are the touch buttons used to select cycles and settings.

As expected with a modern dishwasher, the trade-off for using a small volume of water and electricity is long cycle times. This should be a surprise to nobody. The machine is very quiet, particularly when it's doing a full load on a long cycle. Shorter cycles are louder because of the increased amount of water and pressure that the machine has to use to get the same result.

The results aren't always perfect, particularly items in the cutlery tray can still have small food deposits on them when the machine is very full, but this is a minor inconvenience, and not worth using the dreaded lower-shelf cutlery basket for.

The "glass" cycle cleans delicate, expensive wine glasses without leaving a single mark on them

Drying isn't always perfect, but when is it ever? I'm skeptical when I read people's comments about how their dishwasher dries every item, every time, perfectly. I just don't believe it.

We got the machine delivered and installed for $1715 from E&S. It's a great addition to our kitchen, and I'd never buy another brand.

I previously had a Miele for 20 years without issue so I was determined to buy another one. The Bosch has turned out to be a superb choice. The Series 8 are very quiet even when running the intensive cycle . There is also an extra quiet option that makes it almost inaudible. But above all else the clean finish has that extra sparkle that I haven't seen before.

The Series 8 also has the Zeolith crystal dry technology which seems to dry dishes better than any other method. Simply opening the door a bit to let the steam escape like other dishwashers do doesn't get the same level of dryness throughout and ultimately that superb clean finish. There are also extra dry and sanitize options too

Too small: get the Serie 6 instead – Very disappointed that this model is a downgrade from the Serie 6 that I've had in the past. Plates don't fit the bottom basket even with the top shelf dragged up as far as it can go. The "tall glass" accommodation isn't even close to worth losing the great cutlery rack of the other model. Doesn’t dry as well as expected – It’s only been a week of daily use, but so far it hasn’t been impressive. I opted for the serie 8 over the serie 6 for the extra feature where the door pops open for more efficient drying, but, it’s quite disappointing. Dishes and pans are still wet when removed from the dishwasher 6+ hours after the cycle finishes. It’s frustrating having to hand… Read more

dry every mug that comes out because there’s a small pool of water sitting on the top of the base. It cleans well, however I haven’t run it through its paces with any heavily soiled pans.

The initial setup of connecting it to the app and Wi-Fi was a painstakingly long process, but after about 40 minutes and 10+ attempts, it succeeded without any errors. The features and convenience of controlling your dishwasher through an app seems greatly unnecessary, though does make it easy to delay your cycle to run during the day if you have solar.

I miss my Miele this replaced after it failed from 4 years of light daily use. It dried much more efficiently and the layout of the racks was so much more well thought out.

It does the job, just wish I went with the serie 6 to save the cash and gain the top cutlery rack instead of this useless one it came with.

Very dissatisfied with bottom rack clearance – Everything about the machine lives up to the Bosch reputation except... It is poorly designed for 27cm or larger dinner plates. the hose (absolutely nothing wrong with it) and it then goes. This is not easy to do on your own and damages your cabinets every time. I paid a lot of money and less than 4 years old and I am tricked into paying $132 call out fee (I was not told this until AFTER seomone had been out). And they will not give me a quote until I pay this call out fee. But it gets better. I am told I have to spend a ridiculous amount on salt, despite there being nothing in the user manual about it, and this is supposedly what causes all my issues. I was also told it would be covered under warranty when they came out but nearly a week later I am sent a text message to say I need to pay a call out fee. Yet online suggests we do not need to add salt in Australia, it is for other countries (which would make sense as to why it is not in the manual). For such an expensive unit I expect MUCH MORE. I have had a cheap $400 one installed in a rental and I was there for over 6 years with no issues. My first Bosch appliance and definitely my last. DO NOT BOTHER. If your going to spend that money get a Miele. EDIT. Bosh were very good and paid for the repair of my dishwasher free of charge. This is despite it being out of warranty which I think is amazing. They also advised me that the machine does not use salt. Hopefully it does not have any more issues, especially since it is not heavily used.

Nice design, lots of useful options – We got this to replace our old Miele dishwasher. It installed easily, adjust up to meet the underneath of the countertop well. It looks very nice, performs well. However, the design of the racks means that our 28cm plates do not fit that well, and there is wasted space in the cutlery rack at the top. Loading cutlery is more fiddly that our old Miele, but the main rack tines have a harder coating, so should last longer that the old Miele did. Show details ·  3

the other reviews. If you require dry dishes, in particular plastics, don't go with these Bosch models I'd suggest. If you have to go with a Bosch maybe go with the Series 6, doesn't seem to be any real benefit in the Series 8 for the extra $$$. Additional update +1month in, rating now 1.5 stars. Adjusted all the rinse-aid settings for multi-tab use, but didn't seem to help much, so at this stage would recommend using rinse aid and then maybe can use a cheaper tablet or powder. Using rinse aid with a rinse aid setting of 5 sometimes improved drying. None of this was required for our previous dishwasher.... Also finding the washer makes knocking sounds quite regularly, mostly due to items not being able to be placed securely, takes a lot more time/consideration to load the dishwasher than our previous one. Gave my contact details to Bosch support but never heard back of them as well... Considering trying to offload the dishwasher. Feb 2021 update Had a helpful Bosch serviceman attend to check of the Dishwasher last month and reported all OK, it's just the way the dishwasher is. Sort of decided to live with the issues after this, but now have changed our minds.... We are now finding our some of our white plates and bowls are sometimes coming out with brownish/yellowish flecks or stains on them which are then very difficult to clean off. this issue tried to find the cause of it but he couldn't.

On 18th, the technician found the micro switch connected to the water sensor is faulty but he needed to order the spare part which would take a few more days. Considering this is a brand new install and this part is working with the water protection sensor, for safety purpose and peace of mind I contacted the customer service again on the same day and requested a replacement instead of repairing it.

This request was rejected and after that nothing heard nothing from Bosch until I called again on Thursday 21st Nov. This time, the reason given was this is only a small part costing $30-$40. But the customer support couldn't explain further in regards of the failure (for safety purpose I prefer to understand more details before I can accept a DOA appliance). I asked after repair whether I can get a replacement if it happened again, the answer was no.

If to a customer who purchased a DOA BOSCH appliance, repair is the only option, then leaving the customer wait without any updating or following up is the rule of Bosch customer service?

Under my insistence, I got a chance to speak to one of the supervisors, who offered to escalate this to the "solution team" and I emailed my invoice on the same day as required. I was advised that it would take up to two weeks to assess and it also depends on the stock availability, therefore there is no ETA.

----

It's been over two weeks since this issue happened, and one week after escalated to 'Solutions' team, called customer service a couple of times, being told someone would call me back, but nothing happens till now.

First repair was just after 12 months of owning the machine. Then at 2 years, there was an E09 error where they had to change out a major part. Exactly 2 years after that, I had an error E02,… Read more

which has now progressed to ‘No Communication’.

I have called the centre and have been told to wait up to 14 days for someone to get back to me about my ‘complaint’. So until then, my family just has to sit tight and wait. What an absolutely horrible experience, such an unreliable product.

This particular model is also specifically made in Germany. The only thing that has been reliable about it is that it’ll break down.

Very quite and cleans well – The cutlery tray took a little bit of getting used to but once we worked out how to put the cutlery in - it's great. Being quite was all important and it certainly is. Very Happy Show details ·  1

Like the Tardis inside! – Previously had a similar model - purchased again because I was so happy with the previous one. Excellent at washing dishes Very clean dishwasher - doesn't leave behind any muck, self-cleaning (I scrape but don't rinse prior to putting dishes in) Excellent range of programs Cutlery drawer has fold down tines at the front that are great for holding… Read more ·  1

thicker cutting knives and tongs Bottom basket seems to have improved clearance compared to my previous model - able to hold quite large cutting boards or tall plates on the bottom rack on each side Fold down tines in the baskets are much sturdier than the previous model, with nice handles Like the addition of the light feature, but wish it worked when the dishwasher is powered off (not possible i'm guessing) All in all - i couldn't fault this dishwasher

BOSCH DISHWASHER SMU88TS02A – Sadly we were unlucky and bought a dishwasher from The Goodguys which had a mind of its own. It was a Neff and we were told it was made by Bosch but was even better. We loved our Bosch for 18 years. What a super machine and we really wanted one the same. But the saleswoman talked us around and soon the Neff was installed. At least 10 times a day… Read more ·  1

it would self start! A couple of times it got so far as putting water in. This machine really wanted centre stage! Had 2 service calls and in the first we were advised we had too much static electricity and that was what was setting it off and the tradesman suggested staying as far away from the machine as we could ( Maybe a trapeze across the ceiling I asked?) Last resort was to replace the brain, panel and do a lobotomy on it. You'd think that would work, but no, this was a try hard machine!!! By now we were dealing directly with BSH Home Appliances who supply the retailers with various brands. They were happy to change the Neff over to a Bosch and a couple of weeks later all our problems were over. The Bosch moved in. It has a lot of extras like an internal light which is nice. The controls are on the top internal edge of the door which makes them easy to read. The Neff has the switches on the front surface of the door and even lightly brushing against would set them off. Think air did it too. I have a massive window at bench height right behind the dishwasher so in the middle of the day I usually turn the machine on. It was impossible to see the setting on the door, but now I can open the door a little more or less and be able to see them on the Bosch. You can't hear a sound while it's on. It cleans to 100% perfect with lots of options. The stainless steel is beautiful and the internal metal frame which hold plates, pots glasses etc. is more solid than the Neff. It has the horizontal cutlery shelf at the top which I love. So easy to put cutlery away when it's all grouped together. It really feels like a much more expensive machine. There's only one thing I'd change if I could. The handle is chrome instead of stainless steel. I don't think it will wear as well as solid metal. I'm trying to be careful not to touch the front while I go in under the chrome to grab hold and pull down. I also try to remember to dry my hands before opening the machine. That's a lot for my husband to remember... so hope it will last. It was also nice dealing with BSH. They were so sympathetic and helpful. I'm glad to have a Bosch back in our lives. Dianne.

Very quiet and versatile dishwasher – We purchased a Harvey Norman exclusive model SMU88TS02A/51. They were on special at $1599 minus bosch cash back and bonus eftpos card so was very good value. It is built in underbench model and looks fantastic..nice flat stainless steel finish and very clean lines..has many auto programmes that are efficient and effective..there is a vario drawer… Read more ·  1

for cutlery in the top and a cutlery basket as well..the vario drawer is adjustable and very good...has colour lcd screen built in to the top of the door on the inside and a good size colour lcd on the outside built into handle to display current status of the programme..the controls are electronic touch buttons along the top inside of the door which are easy to use and are concealed when the door is closed..the machine is super quiet and runs very well...i did a review on the Bosch appliances site and pointed out that the only thing i would wish for in this model would be the Miele haefele runners for the drawers (they are super smooth) plus auto kicking the door open at the finish (which Meile also does) but my review got rejected because i mentioned a competitor...it was only to say that the Bosch is still a 5 star washer in my view but would be 5 star deluxe with auto door opening and smooth drawer runners but thats part of what the buyer considers for the extra $400 or so for the Meile. I consider this the be the best choice in our price range plus we wanted German made machine (or other top Euro appliance) and have not been disappointed!!

works like a charm – 1) very useful top tray for cutlery, allows you to collect cleaned items sorted by type straight into your drawer 2) washes well with aldi dishwasher tables, all comes out clean without need to use rinse aid 3) very spacious racks with flexible layout that can be flattened out to cater for large pots 4) being able to set dishwasher to… Read more ·  1

'finish washing by 6am' no matter the program selected makes delayed start configuration a breeze (no need to do mental math)
