Nice design, lots of useful options.
We got this to replace our old Miele dishwasher. It installed easily, adjust up to meet the underneath of the countertop well. It looks very nice, performs well. However, the design of the racks means that our 28cm plates do not fit that well, and there is wasted space in the cutlery rack at the top. Loading cutlery is more fiddly that our old Miele, but the main rack tines have a harder coating, so should last longer that the old Miele did.

Perfect results every time, exceptionally quiet
This is our second series 8 Bosch dishwasher, the other model developed a loud pump after about 7 years of very heavy use, so it was moved to the alfresco kitchen where it still provides perfect results every time.
I love the look and features of the SMU88TS02A and find the underbench model looks better than the free standing unit we had before. The controls are also easier to figure out, and the interior light is a nice touch on top.
The interior racking has improved, with more versatility and a Tardis like ability to fit dishes in, and the ...adjustable middle rack makes it easy to accommodate taller dishes below, or taller glasses above. I also have to mention that Bosch's cutlery trays are far better than any other I have used, allowing cutlery to fit right to the edges, leaving more space for serving spoons etc, and also allowing thicker handled cutlery if needed. As others have mentioned however, my only gripe would be that the bottom rack does come off the runners a bit too easily. I'm glad of the addition of a 60 minute cycle as this caters for slightly more soiled dishes than the 30 minute cycle, although I do miss the rinse only feature. The wash times can seem a little long, but this is due to the auto sensing programs and I often find they start to reduce in time once the machine has figured out how dirty they are. The programs themselves are spot on with cleaning, and the intensive zone is brilliant with heavily soiled or baked on dishes. Extra dry does as it says, and you can set it to be permanently on through the menu (which does add a little more time to the cycles, but worth it in my opinion). I also find the finish time handy (ie it will tell you it will be finished at 4:07PM etc) but I would like to also see the option of how long it has to go (ie 2.35 hours remaining) as well to avoid having to work out the time in my head. The control panel looks good, and looks like it should be a bit more durable than our previous Bosch where some of the writing started to wear off - however, my biggest (minor) gripe with the whole machine is that the touch controls don't seem sensitive enough and often you have to touch the pad a few times to get a response. All in all, another solid well performing dishwasher from Bosch.. just a shame there wasn't a 6 month supply of tablets with this one like last time!

Love this dishwasher - big, efficient and remarkably quiet regardless of the setting.
Very happy with our purchase and would highly recommend.
Love the cutlery dish.
The only thing I don't like (and our friends who also bought a Bosch don't like) is the the bottom rack when pulled out near fully, easily slips off the run - their is no track to keep it place - so strange that they wouldn't have something to stop this on an otherwise fantastic product. Can be hooked direct to hot water as well which can save energy provided the hot water doesn't have to travel too far.

Cleaning seems to be ok, but extremely disappointed with the amount of water left on dishes and the frame of the drawers itself. Even with the extra dry. To make matters worse you can't leave the door slightly ajar. Our 10 year old Miele never had these issues, seemed more roomy, and was $500 cheaper. Generally agree with the negative comments in the other reviews.
If you require dry dishes, in particular plastics, don't go with these Bosch models I'd suggest. If you have to go with a Bosch maybe go with the Series 6, doesn't seem to be any rea...

I have had this Bosch dishwasher now for 2 months and I am very disappointed with the quality. I was unable to be at the delivery and installation and left it to my dad. Some how there are multiple vertical scratches on the control panel. The front is easily marked and hard to clean. The front of the dishwasher is also extremely flimsy and today the cleaner accidentally dented it. I had a Miele for 10 years and thought the reviews for this dishwasher were very good and price was similar to Miele.I am regretting this purchase now. Its already looking tattered yet only 2 months old.

Quality built with plenty of features
Purchased the fully integrated Bosch SMV88TX02A Series 8 dishwasher to replace our faulty IAG IDW14B dishwasher from Winnings. Installation instructions for built-ins was a bit unclear and confusing but I was able to find third party videos online showing how to install the integrated dishwasher.
I love the simplity and abundance of features such as the time light projected on the floor showing the washing in progress, set timer to finish, internal LED and the quiteness of the appliance. The 3 storage racks feels more spacious with an adjustab...le middle rack allowing greater flexibility in stacking the dirty dishes. The washing and drying result is definitely a huge improvement from my previous dishwasher. So far I am delighted with my purchase and I hope to enjoy the use of the dishwasher for many years to come.

Bought this from Myers in January 2020 as part of their floor clearance and we could not be happier. Only bought as our older top range Miele needed replacing. The dishwasher looks and feels well built. It has several options for washing and pretty much covers anything you can think of. You can barely hear it when it is on, so running it at night when the baby is sleeping is not a worry.
It has 3 internal storage racks with the cups and cutlery trays fully adjustable (up, down and even angled -cutlery only). The bottom rack can take large pots and plates and supports are all adjustable.
If you can grab it at a clearance go for it!

Love my new dishwasher, everything work perfect, no noise, bigger inside, very modern looking too, love extra tray for folks & knifes, and matte black finish so beautiful , thanks Harvey Norman

A doubtful upgrade
Washes well on the 1/2hr cycle. Testing the auto sense 1.5hr with a few clean dishes still took 1.5hrs. Begs the question the use of long wash times. The tray guides aren't well positioned and the adjustable guides won't stay put. Other machines have an extractor fan that runs after cycle ends to aid drying. This machine would benefit from that rather than having to prop open the door strait after cycle ends. The cheaper base model would most likely serve just as well. Start buttons hard to use.

Dead on Arrival, and very disappointing customer service
Recently I purchased a SMU88TS04A Built-Under Dishwasher, and it was installed by a licensed plumber on 13th Nov 2019, however this machine is DOA. Error code on screen is Fault E15. As advised on the screen, I called customer service straight away and booked a service the next Monday 18th Nov 2019. At meantime, my plumber also spent extra hour on this issue tried to find the cause of it but he couldn't.
On 18th, the technician found the micro switch connected to the water sensor is faulty but he needed to order the spare part which would tak...e a few more days. Considering this is a brand new install and this part is working with the water protection sensor, for safety purpose and peace of mind I contacted the customer service again on the same day and requested a replacement instead of repairing it. This request was rejected and after that nothing heard nothing from Bosch until I called again on Thursday 21st Nov. This time, the reason given was this is only a small part costing $30-$40. But the customer support couldn't explain further in regards of the failure (for safety purpose I prefer to understand more details before I can accept a DOA appliance). I asked after repair whether I can get a replacement if it happened again, the answer was no. If to a customer who purchased a DOA BOSCH appliance, repair is the only option, then leaving the customer wait without any updating or following up is the rule of Bosch customer service? Under my insistence, I got a chance to speak to one of the supervisors, who offered to escalate this to the "solution team" and I emailed my invoice on the same day as required. I was advised that it would take up to two weeks to assess and it also depends on the stock availability, therefore there is no ETA.

Consistently breaking down
I have had this dishwasher just under 4 years. And have had two repairs done so far and currently waiting for them to respond to it breaking down AGAIN.
First repair was just after 12 months of owning the machine. Then at 2 years, there was an E09 error where they had to change out a major part. Exactly 2 years after that, I had an error E02, which has now progressed to ‘No Communication’.
I have called the centre and have been told to wait up to 14 days for someone to get back to me about my ‘complaint’. So until then, my family just has t...o sit tight and wait. What an absolutely horrible experience, such an unreliable product. This particular model is also specifically made in Germany. The only thing that has been reliable about it is that it’ll break down.

Very quite and cleans well
The cutlery tray took a little bit of getting used to but once we worked out how to put the cutlery in - it's great. Being quite was all important and it certainly is. Very Happy

Like the Tardis inside!
Previously had a similar model - purchased again because I was so happy with the previous one.
Excellent at washing dishes
Very clean dishwasher - doesn't leave behind any muck, self-cleaning (I scrape but don't rinse prior to putting dishes in)
Excellent range of programs
Cutlery drawer has fold down tines at the front that are great for holding thicker cutting knives and tongs
Bottom basket seems to have improved clearance compared to my previous model - able to hold quite large cutting boards or tall plates on the bottom rack on each side

BOSCH DISHWASHER SMU88TS02A
Sadly we were unlucky and bought a dishwasher from The Goodguys which had a mind of its own. It was a Neff and we were told it was made by Bosch but was even better. We loved our Bosch for 18 years. What a super machine and we really wanted one the same. But the saleswoman talked us around and soon the Neff was installed. At least 10 times a day it would self start! A couple of times it got so far as putting water in. This machine really wanted centre stage! Had 2 service calls and in the first we were advised we had too much static electricity...and that was what was setting it off and the tradesman suggested staying as far away from the machine as we could ( Maybe a trapeze across the ceiling I asked?) Last resort was to replace the brain, panel and do a lobotomy on it. You'd think that would work, but no, this was a try hard machine!!! By now we were dealing directly with BSH Home Appliances who supply the retailers with various brands. They were happy to change the Neff over to a Bosch and a couple of weeks later all our problems were over. The Bosch moved in. It has a lot of extras like an internal light which is nice. The controls are on the top internal edge of the door which makes them easy to read. The Neff has the switches on the front surface of the door and even lightly brushing against would set them off. Think air did it too. I have a massive window at bench height right behind the dishwasher so in the middle of the day I usually turn the machine on. It was impossible to see the setting on the door, but now I can open the door a little more or less and be able to see them on the Bosch. You can't hear a sound while it's on. It cleans to 100% perfect with lots of options. The stainless steel is beautiful and the internal metal frame which hold plates, pots glasses etc. is more solid than the Neff. It has the horizontal cutlery shelf at the top which I love. So easy to put cutlery away when it's all grouped together. It really feels like a much more expensive machine. There's only one thing I'd change if I could. The handle is chrome instead of stainless steel. I don't think it will wear as well as solid metal. I'm trying to be careful not to touch the front while I go in under the chrome to grab hold and pull down. I also try to remember to dry my hands before opening the machine. That's a lot for my husband to remember... so hope it will last. It was also nice dealing with BSH. They were so sympathetic and helpful. I'm glad to have a Bosch back in our lives. Dianne.

Very quiet and versatile dishwasher
We purchased a Harvey Norman exclusive model SMU88TS02A/51. They were on special at $1599 minus bosch cash back and bonus eftpos card so was very good value. It is built in underbench model and looks fantastic..nice flat stainless steel finish and very clean lines..has many auto programmes that are efficient and effective..there is a vario drawer for cutlery in the top and a cutlery basket as well..the vario drawer is adjustable and very good...has colour lcd screen built in to the top of the door on the inside and a good size colour lcd on the...outside built into handle to display current status of the programme..the controls are electronic touch buttons along the top inside of the door which are easy to use and are concealed when the door is closed..the machine is super quiet and runs very well...i did a review on the Bosch appliances site and pointed out that the only thing i would wish for in this model would be the Miele haefele runners for the drawers (they are super smooth) plus auto kicking the door open at the finish (which Meile also does) but my review got rejected because i mentioned a competitor...it was only to say that the Bosch is still a 5 star washer in my view but would be 5 star deluxe with auto door opening and smooth drawer runners but thats part of what the buyer considers for the extra $400 or so for the Meile. I consider this the be the best choice in our price range plus we wanted German made machine (or other top Euro appliance) and have not been disappointed!!

works like a charm
1) very useful top tray for cutlery, allows you to collect cleaned items sorted by type straight into your drawer
2) washes well with aldi dishwasher tables, all comes out clean without need to use rinse aid
3) very spacious racks with flexible layout that can be flattened out to cater for large pots
4) being able to set dishwasher to 'finish washing by 6am' no matter the program selected makes delayed start configuration a breeze (no need to do mental math)

Bosch SMU88TS04A Easily the best dishwasher we have owned !!
This review is about the Bosch SMU88TS04A which we have recently taken delivery of. We got an excellent deal and paid $1,404-00 delivered to our kitchen from Appliances Online the day after we ordered it.
This dishwasher comes with both the top cutlery drawer and the removable cutlery basket for the bottom drawer.
We have had premium Dishwashers over the past 25 years including a Miele, AEG and a German made Whirlpool. The only one of those which died was the Whirlpool, which only lasted about 5 years. The repair cost on that was not eco...nomical, so I wasn't going there again. The AEG has been going for about 14 years and still going strong in a house we recently sold. A great dishwasher. I have also worked in Hospitality over the past 30 years and have had extensive experience with a number of very expensive commercial dishwashers. Water and Energy consumption have never factored into any appliance purchase decision I have ever made and won't do in the future. However, this machine has very high ratings in both respects, if that is something you desire. The Bosch SMU88TS04A is without question the best dishwasher we have ever had. It has the best design features, tray and basket layout and adjustability of any dishwasher we have ever seen or used. It is also one of the quietest. It cleans the dishes very well and dries them very well. You still get a little water in the bottom rim of upturned cups and bowls, but you get that with all dishwashers. People who don't expect that are expecting too much !!
Nice made dishwasher, but can't glasses won't fit
The dishwasher is a well made German product looks good. But is let down greatly when we tried to stack wine glasses or standard glasses in the middle glass rack we noticed they won't fit. The reason for this is there are 3 racks, the very top one is for knives and forks ect but the top rack takes up room from the middle rack which is for glasses so glasses won't fit unless they are small totally forget about wine glasses fitting. So glasses have to go on the bottom rack, but they move around there. Racks aren't adjustable so you will have to remove the top knife and fork rack to fit glasses properly. Basically knife rack is a waste a utensil basket would be better.
It does a good job in cleaning all items
Bosch does it better
After our last dishwasher (Bosch, lasted about 8-10 years) we decided we would stick with them as they do dishwashers so well. So far so good. We really like this machine, love that you can adjust the middle draw to make it higher or lower depending upon what you have in the bottom rack. Also love that you can flick up and down some of the plate holder bits to make room for bulky things. Also has the option for cutlery drawer or the crate at the bottom. I absolutely LOVE having my cutlery all laid out in the top section as it makes it much ...easier and quicker to unload. So, I've removed the cutlery basket as it takes up room that can be used for other stuff. I can't figure out the wine rack though, tried to use it once and didn't know where it was supposed to fit. This is really quiet and has lots of options for type of cleaning. The extra dry option is used often as I hate clean but wet dishes. Still can't empty this dishwasher immediately as the dishes will be wet but you can't have everything! It washes everything really well, provided you don't squish one ultra dirty plate right up against another. Does pots and pans and frypans pretty well. We use it daily, it's another quality bosch product.
Love It - So Good!
This is the best upgrade ever for us. We previously had a very underwhelming Fisher And Paykel that always managed to under clean the dishes. - oh boy what a step up this Bosch is. Perfect clean dishes every time, its quiet too and has good, clear options We will see what the longevity is like but I have never had a bad Bosch product so I am expecting good things.
Questions & Answers
Hi I bought this dishwasher to replace my old Bosch SHV55M43AU
The only problem is the door off the old fits perfectly but once attached I can not open the dishwasher all the way as the bottom of the door hits the base of the dishwasher.
If I chop the door down it will be shorter than all the other cabinets in the house? Any ideas of what to do?
Hi, I can't get as straight answer from any technical manuals online or out of sales persons in store regarding the SMV88TX02A.
We are having this dishwasher integrated but the rest of our kitchen will have no handles, there is a 20mm shadowline at the top of the base cupboards. How does this dishwasher open between cycles after it has been closed? Is it push to open or will I need the cabinet maker design some sort of finger grip to be able to pull on it?
Yes - we have a handle like a draw handle. It doesn't open itself as that slight opening would release a lot of steam onto the cabinetry being as its a built in. It will dry with the door closed or you can open the door fully and let the steam out i guess.
Also you will need to have a gap in the kick board at the bottom so that you can see the light display which shines onto the floor and tells you how long to go , where it is in the cycle etc. They should have made this display adjustable and it would have been a bit better. Here;s a link to the exact version I bought - the manual covers off on a few different versions - essentially mine has a faceboard attached to the front of the dishwasher with handle as described to match our cabinetry
Not sure You may get away with the 20mm shadow line if a grip or rebate is made so you can use your fingers to grip the face board and pull the door open. cheers
I will get my new Bosch fully integrated dishwasher, SBV88TX06A, this Saturday. I'd like to ask, my under bench actually can fit up to height 880mm, but there's a panel attached underneath. Therefore, it maxed up to 860mm height and I just realised the dishwasher that I recently bought was 865mm height. Do you think I still can lower the base height to 860mm?
