This was once a quality Coffee Maker. I have been purchasing this Coffee Maker model from Breville for decades. With my latest purchase on 1st August 2023 I was offered an extended warranty. Due to the last few Coffee Makers previously failing so early I decided to take the extra warranty. This machine just stopped working June 2024 after 10 months, still under the Manufacturer Breville warranty.
I returned it to Good Guys who were great , and replaced the machine 5 June 2024. This new machine decided to stop working after a batch was brewed one day, it turned itself off never to start again as its predecessors did, dying at just under 1 year.
Good Guys again replaced the machine on 1 June 2025.
So I have been using the 3rd Breville Coffee Maker most days ☕️ as at 27 June 2025 it has been working a few weeks. I note a strange plastic smell emanating from the machine when brewing since the outset, which I haven't noticed on prior machines. I find the coffee no longer tastes good for an extended time, but quickly tastes bitter, so not advisable to brew a large pot. If you want 2 people to have 2 cups, make a separate batch for a 2nd cup.
Before first use, I did run a clear filtered water cycle twice through the machine but it continues to smell. I only use filtered water in it.
After speaking to the staff at the store, it was agreed that if the machine failed again under warranty I would get a refund and look for another brand to purchase.
I'm interested to see if Breville can explain how 2 Coffee machines have failed within 12 months, and the brewing quality is poor. I needn't have bothered with the extended warranty as the machines are such low quality they are failing early under 12 months.
My thoughts and experience having used multiples of these machines are that this is built in obsolescence. Breville are possibly producing this product with declining quality and longevity.
I do not recommend this product if you expect more than 10 to 12 months from it.
It does have a couple of features that may be handy, if you do happen to buy one.. A Timer to pre-set your coffee brew to switch on so it is brewed at a predetermined time, and a clock. A 'strength' button that illuminates. I did try this but haven't noticed a difference in the brew.
I'm very disappointed in this product as I loved how this was once a reliable well priced Coffee machine, but no longer.

Makes the best pot of tea ever – Without doubt, the Breville Aroma makes the best pot of tea. I simply add 3 desert spoons of Yorkshire leaf tea for medium strength of 5 desert spoons of Origin Orange Pekoe for a very strong brew. machine did, but that was $900 plus all the stupid extras 'you just have to have'. BTW I sold and got rid of all that because I'd waste countless hours and hundreds of dollars a year on getting 'the best' beans ('Crack' by Bolt coffee from WA by the way - at least to me, but it's all subjective isn't it?), the 'best' grind size, the 'best' quantity. etc. And the waste of my life changing pucks, rinsing the damn thing, backwashing, knock box clean up, clearing splatter. Funny enough grinding beans is rather noisy too. Wakes the kids. Who'd have thought? I'd already sold my $3.5k Jura because no matter what beans the coffee was always so-so and relatively cold. I got rid of my pod machine as I was killing the planet with all my coffee drinking and the compostable pod stuff was low average at best. I went back to Italy recently and realised what a snob I'd become. Drip coffee is quite alright. I'll still pay someone in a store to make me a fantastic espresso with a balanced and beautiful crema, but now I realise I'm paying them to turnover their beans quick and for all the clean up. And to use up all their countertop space. Despite its boring looks, this takes up no room at all.
This machine is 'fine' and I mean that in a genuine way. Mine isn't noisy. It's on at 5.30am in my house and even the dogs don't stir. It makes perfectly good drip coffee, with next to no clean up time. I give it 8/10 on taste, but again and again and again. Without the indigestion all the espresso gave me too. The stronger taste button works. If I want more rounded I can use a filter paper. If I want stronger and even more rounded I can double filter paper it. And... just put more coffee in it. Simple, quick and cheap. The 'jug' (let's avoid the term 'carafe' in keeping with the theme of simplicity) hasn't got the best ergonomics on it's handle but I have to hold it 60secs tops each day. It's fine.
I didn't use the manual. Took seconds to figure it out. You have it on and working, or on a delay mode until the set time, or off. The strength button can be on or off. That's it. Not rocket science.
Also it doesn't leak onto the hotplate when you remove the 'jug' to pour your coffee unlike the nicer looking and more expensive but far more effort to fill and empty De'longhi (you know - the hour glass model). That went back to the store before I got this one.
If it lasts me 12 months that's 24 cents a day. Happy days.
Edit: 18 months later and hasn’t missed a beat. The jug plastic lid is still fine and has shown no signs of wear. I’m using this 5 days a week for reference.
Great!… Except I keep breaking it – We have had this coffee machine for exactly 2 years. In that time, it has been used at-least daily, twice a day on weekends! I haven’t had any issues with it its function. I’ve found it easy to use, reliable, easy to clean. reservoir seems to be specifically positioned to catch drips when the lid is opened, so I can’t figure that one out. Don’t rip the lid open too fast, perhaps? My only complaint is that the carafe is so fragile that I have broken it three times. Each time, it happened while washing the carafe—a bit of a tap against the sink and it instantly cracks. I’ve spent more replacing the carafe than I spent on the machine. Now, maybe you’re not clumsy like me, in which case I don’t hesitate to recommend the machine to you as an economical and reliable option! But, personally, I’ve decided to buy a new machine rather than replacing the carafe again.
Perfectly average – I've had this for a couple of months now and used it almost daily. The coffee is fine. I've had better but I've also had much, much worse. waiting for you when you wake up, get this. If you want the best coffee possible, obviously an $89 machine will never give you that.
I'd buy this again for sure.
(It is a bit noisy but not too bad and the people saying a plastic smell/taste I have not experienced that at all.)

The truth on the Breville Drip Cup Size - Moderated! I submitted a review, describing a fact about the Breville Drip Coffee machine and it’s actual size/ capacity of the carafe. Fact is the new Drip has a capacity of approx 1.5 litres and is called a 12 cup capacity. But based on their previous 12 cup model the carafe volume was approx 1.8 litres- an approximate reduction of approx 1/6 of the previous models size, yet still called a 12 cup unit. Because I basically called this fact out, my original review was “Moderated”! Let’s call it what it is, factual reviews are screened and deleted from the website. batch of coffee and have tried multiple different brands and roasts with the new machine (all of which I have used and liked before). Thinking the grind size I routinely used with the previous model Aroma Style might be the issue, I experimented with a range of other grind sizes. This made a small improvement but none of those batches actually tasted good.
This new model looks like it is made from cheap plastic, but I bought it anyway based on my good experience with the previous model. The plastic smell and taste lingers despite multiple coffee batches and several diluted vinegar batches. Coffee from this machine tastes nasty and I will be returning it for a refund.
My go to morning coffee maker – Incredible consistency from a $99 coffee machine. It makes hot, strong coffee and has never ever had any issues in 12 months. I have a much more expensive Espresso machine but use it sparingly as this Breville is so good. Highly recommended Show details
Really good so far – I purchased this after the previous model stopped working on me after only 5 months. I wanted to write this review because it does seem like there a few improvements. Firstly the lid no longer drips the condensation down the back of the machine when you lift the lid up. Now the water falls into the tank. Secondly, the coffee does seem hotter.… Read more
Maybe my old machine just didn't work well from the get go but it was definitely not as hot as this one is. The new model is a lot smaller and I've gained back a few inches of bench space. It has a new feature of a setting for coffee strength. I personally haven't noticed much difference but I've only tried regular mode once so maybe next time I'll notice. I really only want strong coffee so I'll just leave that button on thanks. And the final improvement is that it's easier to put the coffee filter in the top as you can visually see which way it sits. The last model you had to memorize which way it sat because the underside would only sit one way so it was fiddly at first.
So overall it does seem like an improvement and if it lasts a decent amount of time I'll be extremely happy.
The only other thing I'd add is don't be a fool like me and pay extra from Thw Good Guys. Because I was doing it as an exchange I didn't shop around but it is way cheaper at Big W.
