Good but with flaws – I bought one of these when on special at Big W. Excellent price and was bought as my old other brand machine was on it's way out. This keeps the coffee hot. To make 6 cups by the markings on the pot it needs 7 cups of water, that is understandable. Big big diappointment is that it turns off after 2 hours. As a creature of habit I have 3 cups in… Read more

the morning first at 6ish last at 8.30ish, sometimes later if I go out to the shops. The machine has usually switched off by the time the third cup comes around. Sometimes I get there when it's still warm enough to drink, otherwise it's a waste and I'm not going to re percolate a new batch for 1 cup. My last machine lasted until I turned it off. It's frustrating and disappointing as otherwise it does everything else well. Should be able to adjust the turn off timer.

Only lasted 4 months – Update: I loved this machine but it started malfunctioning at about 3 months and in the last week it stopped working mid brew every day. It would randomly start working one or two hours later. So I've exchanged it under warranty for the newer model. The Good Guys made the whole process really easy which I was really grateful for because I found it… Read more

impossible to contact Breville.

Original review: I've only just recently purchased this after reading the reviews on this site but I'm so happy with it. It's so easy to use and the coffee comes out tasting great. I use 4 tablespoons of coffee to what they call 6 cups which is 2 mugs to me. I don't add milk so I find the refill coffee can be a little hot but it cools quickly so it's not a drama. For the price it's a really great little machine.

Glass tip of the pot broke very soon. Design fault – I bought the drip filter machine (Model FCM12) at the Good Guys and put it away until my Sunbeam one was finished. When I started using it I was okay with it. But...very soon a piece of glass from the tip of the pot broke off. I kept using it but then another piece broke off. The design is not good. It forces the pot underneath the coffee holder.… Read more

I have used these kind of machines for years so I know how everything works. Also the coffee holder is rather small. I cannot claim warranty as I kept it for awhile before starting to use it. $90 wasted. :-( I have bought another Sunbeam instead.

After 12 months of use, here is my experience – This makes great coffee. Here is how I would respond to the issues raised in the other reviews after using this machine for 12 months. 1. Yes, condensation forms under the lid and it leaks when you open the top. Design flaw-yes. To stop it dripping though, I tap the lid hard a few times before slowly opening it and get minimal dripping. 2.… Read more

Machine makes perfect ready to drink temperature black coffee. If you like milk in your coffee, you have 2 options which are to buy another machine or buzz your coffee for 15 seconds in the microwave to get it hotter after adding your milk.

3. Makes bitter coffee if your ratios are out. I think all machines are like this though I saw this mentioned a few times. What I do is use a tablespoon measure spoon when loading it to know my exact ratios. I get a great result. If you are just winging it and scooping random amounts of coffee in everytime, expect random results.

4. Manual says 4 cup minimum, but I make just enough for one cup of coffee by filling the water marker on the side of the machine to just under the line for 3 cups. Perfect, no waste and I have no issues 12 months out. I find, 2 tablespoons exactly of coffee for this amount of water works well. Add more or less to taste for yourself.

5. The water refill opening is small. Pour slowly to refill and it's not much of a problem.

*18 month update* After 1.5 years of daily use, machine gave up the ghost. I have since purchased a Morphy Richards Verve 1. 8L pour over machine which is pretty much the same style as this Breville BUT it is superior in every way. Firstly, it has settings for 1 cup which is perfect for me. It has a strength setting for 4+ cups, its internal water tank is so much easier to pour into and it doesn't drip when opening the lid, it feels better and takes up less bench space. Only downside for some (not for me cause I don't use it in this way) is it turns off after 30 mins keeping the pot warm. My recommendation - buy the morphy richards verve pour over.

A great environmentally-friendly and affordable coffee machine – I was looking for an inexpensive and standard coffee machine that would make light work of making coffee without the cost and inconvenience of constantly finding and replacing disposable and hard-to-degrade plastic pods. The machine we would choose had to deliver on taste. With the right coffee, this Breville Aroma Coffee Maker has been our… Read more

choice.

Hence, I found this drip-style coffee machine by Breville.

It has a stainless steel coffee filter, not requiring additional filter paper. We buy good quality ground coffee for it. After each use, we throw the used ground coffee in the garden, rinse the filter, wash the glass pot, and it's good to go again. No wastage. Good clean coffee.

Bonuses: (i) one can do up to 12 cups of coffee, which equates to maybe 8 or 9 mugs of coffee; (ii) minimum size is 2 cups, or roughly one mug of coffee; (iii) quick and easy to install and use (good for people with disabilities and the aged); (iv) can easily be cleaned with vinegar/water put through it now and again; and (v) can be programmable to come on at a certain time (such as the next morning) but we haven't needed to do this, as the coffee is quick to make anyway.

Overall, a great little machine.

----- I have recently read on ProductReview (31/10/21) that a few people have had issues with starting or getting used to using the machine.

There are only really four steps to get started: (i) water in right chamber (I use a funnel and fill it from a measuring jug with volume measurements); (ii) have a cleaned stainless steel filter and scoop coffee into it outside of the coffee machine. If you scoop coffee whilst inside, maintaining a clean machine is more difficult. The best flavours are from recently ground coffee or opened coffee packets; (iii) have a clean coffee pot inserted in the machine; and (iv) press the leftmost power button.

It should start. From memory, when I first used my machine, the water ran through. I did not expect it to be so quick. I can't remember the details, but it may have been that I had accidentally pressed the power (left) button before things were set up, thinking it was only for setting up time, auto on, etc. You only need to press this button either when you want to start filtering through your coffee or wish to keep it warm or to reheat it for an additional 2 hours. If you reheat, or maintain the coffee in the heat pad, it is worth cleaning the filter and leaving it out to dry and closing the lid without the filter. There is no need to add more water to the tank as the power at this stage is only keeping the coffee hot. Make sure you have coffee in the pot, otherwise switch the machine off.

Sipping Coffee Merrily – Guided by reviews on this site, chased down and purchased online from Harvey Norman. Didn't hear anything for a week and when I rang they seemed to have lost the order somewhere. Once re-established delivery was next day and all good. Filter machine was worth the wait. Very pleased with design and fits snugly in the bench corner next to the… Read more

power point. Found the smallish water filling station on the RHS a little hard to get to. I'm Left handed so other lefties might find the same. Bought a funnel from the hardware shop and that solved the problem of missing the aperture and water everywhere. Coffee was quick to flow through and hot. The remaining day's coffee was switched off and zapped when needed as leaving the coffee on for a long period of time produces a "stewed" and bitter taste. The instructions said not to use a filter bag but did (have a big supply left over from previous machine) and the results were perfect. All in all, happy with purchase.

We love this machine – Great value for this great machine. We've had this machine for over 5yrs and use it daily to wake up with freshly brewed coffee. After discovering we prefer filter coffee style as we drink long black coffees, this machine is perfect. Easy to operate, nice looking and works perfectly. Show details

No fuss Coffee – The best part of this coffee maker is you can set and forget. My husband has a long commute to work so he times this to make coffee while he is getting ready in the morning. 12 cups makes enough coffee for two morning cups and two travel mugs for Hubby and son and a cup for me. We automatically set it on the weekend for when we wake up,… Read more

coffee stays warm for two hours but if you want it to stay warm longer just press the Power button again.

Adjustable, don't want a full jug? Just add the water and coffee for how many cups you want, simple.

What I like best is it comes with a reusable filter. So no paper filters or limited to specific pods for different branded machines. Just great tasting coffee from your favourite Brands.

We haven't noticed any leaks and it is really easy to clean.

Some annoyances, but it's OK – The inlet for water reservoir is small so it's very easy to spill when filling. 12 cups on the reservoir makes less than 12 in the pot. Need to finely grind if you want strong coffee, but if you do then watch it like a hawk otherwise it could spill-over when it's dripping hot water through the filter. And as others have already noted, it sometimes… Read more

drips the condensed water down the back of the unit when you open it up. Expensive for what it is. Never bothered to use the timer function - so that's useless to me (only got it because it was the cheapest at the time).

Great coffee maker for the price – I bought a coffee maker to replace my old one which has broken after 2 years of use. This one is easy to use and the cup is easy to clean, my only complaint is that the cord is shorter than my old one so I couldn't put it in the same place. Show details

Delicious coffee – This coffee maker was a little hard to come by (sold out) but glad we didn't cave and take the Sunbeam. First time using this type of coffee machine and wanted to check if that is normal and i invite someone to comment please.

Great for making big mugs full of coffee – I purchased this machine basically to be able to easily and quickly make some good coffee for up to 6 people (as we will be having visitors staying with us). And also for the fact that Husband likes to have a huge mug of coffee in the mornings (like almost equivalent to two normal coffee mugs). I have found the Breville Aroma to fit my… Read more

requirements perfectly. The taste of the coffee that comes out of it largely depends on what type of coffee powder you buy, how fresh it is, how much you use (depending on how it's ground). So far I've only been using supermarket coffee and it has tasted good enough for me not to need to add sugar (I usually have milk). Soon I will order some freshly roasted coffee specifically ground to suit the machine, so it will be interesting to see the difference.

Some key points:

I find the coffee that is produced is hot enough for me to drink it as I normally would in a mug with a decent amount of cold milk added.

According to machine guidelines the minimum amount is 4 cups, I find this is about 2 mugs of coffee. If I'm only making coffee for myself and not wanting to drink two mugs worth then I find putting the rest in the fridge and making "iced coffee" or drinking it cold with milk actually tastes really good.

The machine is so easy to clean, even easier than I thought it would be!

I was concerned about the driping issue that some people mentioned, it's not a big deal if you don't open the lid too soon after making coffee, and also maybe not open it up all the way as there is a little thing at the back where the water off the lid is supposed to drip into. Either way I haven't found this to be a problem.

Prior to purchase I debated between this machine and the Sunbeam, I chose the Breville because it seemed to have overall better reviews and to me it seemed like it was a bit better in quality and possibly a bit easier to use (layout of buttons etc).

I'm certainly happy with my choice. The size and shape of the machine means it sits easily in a corner on the kitchen bench and it doesn't take up that much more space compared to a kettle. I also like how the water level window is easy to see.

Best of all it's not really much more expensive than some brands of large coffee plungers! And in my opinion it's much easier to clean than a plunger as well.

So I would recommend this particularly if you need to make larger quantities of coffee. For travel or when I'm making smaller amounts I do personally like to use the Aeropress.

Good coffee machine – We have been living in Australia for 13 years now and this is our third coffee machine. Probably the better choice we have made. The coffee tastes great, the temperature of the coffee is brilliant ( I love hot hot coffee). Only thing is that I have to clean the machine as it takes more time for the water to get through when you don’t clean it regularly. But then, I suppose that’s with every machine.  Show details

day my old Breville Coffee machine failed I made the trip into town to buy what I thought would be the replacement of the love of my life, the Breville Aroma BMC600. I brought it home and followed the instructions & looked forward to my great cup of coffee! I managed to make 1 lot of coffee and the machine lost the plot! It turned itself off! The coffee was great & I manually grind my coffee for a courser grind to suit this kind of machine. Pity the machine wasn't up to the task. The electronics died before the completion of one use.

Easy to use! – The coffee produced by the coffee machine smells really good in the morning even though we tried a cheap coffee from the supermarket. It did not disappoint us at all.
