Non existing customer service with poor quality product Smart Kettle – Don' buy Breville products.- waste of money - product don't last (smart kettle KB825) For more than a month that I have been trying Breville 1300 customer service number does not exist, claiming "they are in training" Unbelievable rubbish..... They don't even acknowledge, nor respond back to on-line submitted complaints. 4.5 years ago I… Read more
purchased from Myers a Breville Smart Kettle KB825. I paid $179 - not a cheap kettle 18 months Myers replaced it because the cut off switch stopped working - the kettle kept boiling non stop. Less than three years old, the green plastic lid of the replaced unit started to display crazed cracking with rust spots around the stainless rim.
4 weeks ago I tried ringing Breville Customer service, but they are not taking calls with a recorded message "their staff are in training". I tried phoning again today, and they are still in training.... Unbelievable nonsense....
On the 28/3/2022 I submitted an online complaint with lots of pictures and copy of the purchase docket . Breville never responded back.
This is a poor quality company, with non existing customer service and poor quality "Smart Kettle" that cost $179
I have since found out other purchasers have similar bad experiences expressed similar complaints to mine. You would expect such high price kettle at least >5 years. Evidently not Breville's.... A Kmart kettle would have costed less 20% and would have outlasted this poor quality Breville rubbish
I gave it one star rating because there no other lower rating I could have selected
Useless Kettle…a waste of money! – The look of the kettle doesn’t justify its usefulness. This product looks amazing, very neat & clean. The shiny stainless steel is perfect. However, when this is used, you’ll be annoyed as it doesn’t functions well. It keeps on flashing and never boils. Sometimes it keeps boiling and never stops until you turn off the switch! My husband bought… Read more
again hoping that the second new item will function well but still the faults are showing. That’s why we decided not to patronise this Breville product (we also had our 3rd Breville rice cooker and had same fate- useless Breville Product!). Now, we’re using other brand. Never again for this Breville Kettle & other Breville products.

Poor quality product – I bought The Smart Kettle from JB Hi-Fi in March 2020. I used it 1-3 times per day and treated it well - it was never subjected to any type of physical damage. Despite that, within 6-8 months it had developed multiple cracks in the plastic part of the lid and the plastic around the water-level indicator. So about 12 months after purchase, I took… Read more
it back to JB Hi-Fi and they kindly swapped it over for a new one.
Alas, the new one began to develop the exact same cracking issues in the lid and water-level indicator within 6 months, which has gotten progressively worse over time. I didn't return it again because despite the issue, it was still working fine otherwise (in retrospect, I should have). Yesterday, I found a small piece of blueish clear plastic in my tea. It turns out part of the plastic on the top of the water-level indicator had chipped off and fallen into my mug while pouring - I didn't notice and almost swallowed it. See attached photos for how the replacement kettle looks today (after having it for approx 2 years).
Good Stuff
- The variable temperature settings work well. - Generally heats quite quickly (at the expense of being noisy).
The Bad Stuff
- Both the original and replacement kettle suffered from the same cracking issues (in the lid and water-level indicator) which both began within 6 months and become progressively worse. A kettle at this price should have much better build quality and more than a 2 year lifespan. - Quite loud compared to other kettles I've used.

Oh the sweet sounds of BEEP – I was actually in the market for a dedicated beeping machine when I stumbled upon the BKE825 at a friends house, I was immediately mesmerised by it’s outstanding beeping capabilities so rushed out and bought one, the BKE825 will beep with every interaction you have with it whether it’s simply picking it up or putting it down or pressing any… Read more
button, although I’m not a coffee or tea drinker or have any need for hot water I did over a period of two years incessantly boil the jug over and over again just to hear it’s cheap irritating beeping noise’s, It did however in the end and annoyingly only one month out of warranty decide to self destruct, It was a sad and silent day but with the help of an angel grinder and a pile of wires and stuff from jaycar I have managed to reincarnate the BKE825 into a more superior device with a magnificent singular prime function...... To BEEEEEEP !!!!!!
Pretty and cool features but it’ll need to be replaced in less than 5 years – Love the look & features but they are not robust and fail in about 4 to 5 years max. I’ve owned two and the second has just failed. Both seals deteriorated over time and then cracks appeared in the lid. Water has now bubbled over through crack in lid an impacted electrics, now dead. Had bought my mum one also, hers is still going but has aged poorly. Not what you want for a premium kettle at a premium price. Show details

Excellent kettle – We are very happy with this kettle as we purchased it in 2010 and it served us 10 years with no issues. Buttons started playing up last year and only now 26 Dec 2020 we are replacing it as the screw finally corroded. I’m planning to buy the exact kettle again. Show details
Good performance but poor durability – I love the product, it's features and the performance (speed of water boil), but the durability of the materials is poor. The stainless steel container seems to be of good quality and nicely finished, but the plastic lid and specifically the rim that holds the lid it gets cracked after many heating-cooling cycles and eventually breaks. Apart from… Read more
the aesthetics, it effects the sealing, so every time water gets boiled the steam vapours are popping out of the lid. From what I'm reading others having the same problem as well so maybe this is something common. I would recommend the kettle for its quality and performance but only if you are happy to get it replaced after 2-4 years.
It’s okay – It’s a kettle. It boils water and price wise it’s comparable with most name brand kettles. I bought this because I bought the Breville peel and slice food processor a few months back and love it. But the kettle is as I said just a kettle. It replaces my kitchen aid kettle and if I was to compare the two I’d say this. The beeping on… Read more
the kitchen aid was way too loud. Especially early in the morning. You could hear it in the bedrooms and it could not be turned off or down. The water level window though was really good. It had an LED light and you could see at a glance how much water was in the kettle.
The Breville smart kettle is much quieter when it beeps. You can easily hear it in the kitchen, but not the bedrooms.
The water level window is a smokey colour and is not backlit so you can’t really see easily how much water is in the kettle.
Both kettles had a keep warm function which I really do like.
Negative reviews
Not worth the money – I have had two of these kettles, the first lasted 2 weeks and the start button failed. I exchanged this and with the second one, the lid started to skew after 7 months and wouldn’t close properly. For the price of this kettle you would expect the quality to be excellent unfortunately it’s not. Show details
Won't stop boiling.very unsatisfied – Doesn't switch off after reaching boiling temp. Pretty dangerous really and a waste of electricity. Needs to be constantly monitored. $20 kettles work better than this, and are much safer.
Great while it worked – Design well thought out and worked great, variable temperature setting came in handy. All good - until the warranty ran out. One day it simply refused to turn on and just beeped when any setting was selected. We cleaned the inside with vinegar just in case any buildup was interfering with the temperature sensor, left it unplugged to reset any… Read more
electronics but all to no avail.
At this price point, Breville need to stand behind their product and up their warranty to 3-5 years to match the price premium.

Cheap Kmart Kettle will last longer – At $200 odd for this kettle I thought I was getting a top of the line. It worked fine up until recently when I was pouring water and the lid broke off and boiling water went everywhere! Dangerous! Lid broke just from use once or twice a day not from dropping! Called up Breville customer Service only to be told the Kettle is 5 Years old. How could… Read more
it be 5 Years old as we only got given the kettle last year. Judging by other reviews this is a common response from Breville and it seems like a common product fault!
No ownership or responsibility or duty of care shown by Breville. They dont care that the lid degrades, only to break off whilst pouring boiling water everywhere. I was told they don’t even have a replacement part so I can’t get the kettle repaired. I was told my only option was to find the receipt to get it replaced direct from the store!! Yeah I would have done that first before calling Breville if I could have. It was a gift!
Buyer beware! Hope this review deters you from ever buying Breville again.
Doesn't turn off – This was the 2nd Breville kettle I bought, with the first one no longer working after 2 years, so I replaced it with another. This kettle would boil and not turn off, until you switched it off. The first time this happened the kettle almost boiled dry. Eventually, the buttons for the temperature settings only worked on 100% with the other buttons not working at all. Again this occurred a couple of years after use. Show details

Temperatures are inaccurate and hottest setting is not hot enough – I bought this kettle specifically because of the temperature settings. My Aeropress coffee press requires water at 85 degrees but I still need the hottest water possible for tea. After a few months use, I noticed that my tea (at hottest setting) was not as hot as water boiled in a normal kettle. As an experiment, I compared results of the water… Read more
temperatures vs the settings on the kettle.
Sure enough, the 100 degree button only heated the water to 93 degrees. All the other settings were under the stated temperature by 5-8 degrees. This may sound like I'm being over critical, but I paid extra for this feature and it doesn't work as specified and I've got lukewarm tea after a splash of milk.
A kettle that can't boil water for tea is useless.
On a few positive notes, the kettle is decently made and the wide mouth makes it easy to clean and descale.
Not too smart – We just bought the smart kettle recently and was disappointed, the guy told us that we can used our google home to turn it on. And that’s why well agree to buy it. But unfortunately it only turn on and off and it doesn’t do anything or boiling. We still need to go there and push the button. Other than that, it was good for the temperature options.… Read more
But yeah, we just return it and look for another Smart kettle. I think its only smart because of temperature. But using google home or alexa it’s a no no.
Just don't bother wasting the money – Bought the kettle from Myers in June 2019. This is the second time we have bought one of these - we thought we would give it another chance...what a mistake... Not long after we bought it - it started not turning off when it had reached boiling temperature and requiring us to turn it off manually or lift the kettle off the stand. We persisted,… Read more
but it has only got worse. (By the way - it was the same issue a few years ago that caused us to return the previous purchase back in 2015/16)
Then about 2 weeks ago - it also started shaking on its stand when it gets close to boiling temperature (making quite a loud noise and not looking very secure or stable)...
So - we have turned it off - unplugged it and are going back to our 4 year old Delonghi which was a little noisy but worked fine.
Don't waste you money.
Broken twice, fault in design – Buyer beware!! I loved this kettle when I received it as a house warming present - within warranty it stopped working maybe after 18 months. This, considering the price is not good enough. Under warranty it was replaced - as it should have been - but within 12 months the replacement has the exact same issue. very upsetting as I am a big tea drinker and the concept is great! Continues to Boil - Cracked Lid, No reason, not dropped! – Same as many others, it just continues to boil and the lid developed a crack for no good reason and the crack is just getting larger! Pretty poor for such an expensive kitchen appliance!
Rust bucket disguised as a kettle – I have had three of these over the last few years, every single one was a warranty return. By twelve months of use with regular cleaning using documented process in the manual, yes I rtfm, these kettles have without fail rusted between the lid and the rim of the kettle. The soft open lid has just failed this morning as well. I am done with this… Read more
product even though my current kettle is still under warranty, I can not be bothered driving to the store to exchange for the same sub standard product. Another poor quality product off to landfill.
Doesn't actually boil water!! – Bought this kettle a couple of years ago for my wife who loves a good cup of tea. We have a lot of Breville products and have always been very happy with them so didn't hesitate to fork out close to $200 for this kettle as I figured it'd be a good investment. Boy was I wrong!! First issue it does boil water anymore!! We turn it on and it starts… Read more
to sound like its heating the water then it beeps like its finished and turn off but the water is still cold. Press the button again and it starts to boiled again.. Repeat this process 3 to 5 times and we eventually get a hot cuppa some 15 mins later
Second issue the plastic ring in the lid has cracked due to heat from the steam generated. From a top of the range $200 kettle. Come on Breville this just isn't good enough.
Third issue. The kettle just randomly starts beeping like its turning off and on. This can go on for a very long time - basically as long as you can stand it and get up and unplug the kettle for the wall.
Extremely disappointed in this kettle. It's out of warranty and like everything we don't have the receipt anymore so just wanted to let everyone know not to waste their money on this item.
Lift your game breville. You can do much better than this!!
Variable temperature control – We received this kettle as a warranty replacement to a prior Breville temperature select model (BKE720BS). This model is quieter & heats faster than our previous kettle. It’s easy to both fill & see the water quantity. I like how you can select the desired water temperature directly from the five option control panel. I didn’t read the above reviews & unfortunately don’t hold my breath that this will last beyond x2 years. Show details
Great features but doesn't last – After having this kettle for eight months the seal on the lid cracked then the lid fell apart. I love the features and the different temperature settings but the durability is very poor. I did make a warranty claim and that was handled magificently, but it was too late I have purchased what I hope is a more durable kettle. Base on this I am unable to recomend it. I now have a spare kettle. Show details

Doesn't last - Don't waste your money – This kettle has lasted less than 2 years. It either switches off before boiling or boils continuously and doesn't switch off. Disappointing and not worth the money. Would not recommend. Show details
Don't buy – Yes purchased this kettle in 2014. One week before replacement warranty it stopped working. Luckily myer replaced it, so that was 2016. Now two months after warranty has finished the replacement has stopped working. Seems they only last two years. Will not buy a breville again. It's a shame most end up in land fill. Lift your game breville. Just not good enough. Show details
Don’t waste your cash – Started playing up after 12 months and now (18months old) won’t work at all. Started failing to heat to desired temperature, now will not heat at all. Turns itself off and on, beeps incessantly and is a complete waste of cash and bench space. Save your cash and just buy a normal kettle!! Show details
Don’t bother buying it – This is the second kettle. The first one I thought was good for ages and then it started to not turn off. Just kept boiling. I bought another about 3/4 months ago and now this is doing the same thing. So annoyed that this is happening. Not buying a breville kettle again. Show details
Very expensive kettle that should last longer than 15 months ! – Very expensive kettle I bought around 15 months ago, died today 3 months after the warranty run out. I am sure these modern day appliances have a self destruct mechanism built in place timed to die just after the warranty expires. This kettle, which I paid around $130 for, started out fine for the first 6 months or so making temperature specific… Read more
brews, although it is a very LOUD kettle which we noticed straight away. The errors started with it turning off at random times, not turning on at all, the lid cracked last month and it has blown several surge safe power boards. Today I walked into the kitchen to find it had boiled dry, not turned itself off, so I filled it up and turned it back on and watched it continue to boil without turning off which is very dangerous. Never buying Breville again !! Back to the old spare Bellini BTK615 which still works fine after several years operation, it does struggle to turn off at 100 deg so I just set it at 90 and it's shuts off no worries, but that description is for a different review ;)
Go for a basic kettle or use the stove. Does not perform for the purpose it was built – This kettle is very temperamental, it works sometimes. On black tea it boils furiously lid popping up, steam every where. Other times it then stops after 3 seconds. Have to pull out the cord, change settings for it to work. Making tea everyday is an adventure. Breville you're giving yourself a bad name. People will wake up one day and stop using appliances if they are only built only to be replaced. Show details
Great when it works but stopped working after a day – Got the kettle home and had a few cups of tea at the various settings and perfect! The following day went to make a coffee and it was lukewarm. It keeps turning itself off before it even gets hot! Have to take it back to try and return under warranty, not happy! Show details
Fails to work after about 2-3 years regular household use. Disappointing for such an expensive kettl – Save your money by not buying this kettle! Fails to work after about 2-3 years regular household use. (Disappointing for such an expensive kettle.) boil at 100 degrees selection, then finally fails to boil at any temperature setting. We suspect there is a fault (not covered by warranty) in the "Smart" base, but I frankly expect more reliability from a simple household electronic appliance. Engineered to fail regularly and predictably??
If you're prepared to buy a new one every few years, go for it. Otherwise stay away – We're on our third one of these (and also three of the previous version, the BKE820). The only reason we buy these is because we drink so much green and white tea and the ability to bring the kettle to 80 or 85 degrees is great. BUT... They repeatedly fail. Our previous BKE820 failed numerous times and Breville refused to replace the last… Read more
one, even though it was experiencing exactly the same problems. And even though we were disgusted by Breville's bad customer service, stupidly we bought the follow up BKE825. And still regret it.
1. The electrics fail.
Sometimes it turns on by itself (but doesn't start boiling). Sometimes it turns off by itself before it's finished boiling. Sometimes it goes into keep warm mode by itself. A lot of the time the kettle when it's set to 100 degrees it won't turn off. It's quite random.
2. We have also found that the temperature is inconsistent.
Sometimes 90 degrees or 95 degrees will clearly boil the water.
Almost seems to be a thermostat problem.
3. The lid also fails.
After a while it seems the button to open the lid wears and it fails to open sometimes. This is also random and I haven't been able find any way to fix this.
These are pretty much the same problems that affected the previous version of the kettle. And again Breville refused to offer a replacement now as the current one that's faulty (which was replaced under warranty) is now out of the original warranty period (of the first 825 model we purchased), even though the problems are clearly endemic to the specific product.
Noisy – Has been a good kettle for a number of years. Sometimes it doesn’t shut off so can’t go out of earshot. However that’s no problem as it is very very rowdy even tho I desacale it regularly. My next kettle must be quieter. It still looks good on the bench and the brushed steel is easy to clean. Show details
It was great before it didn't work anymore – My kettle made it to the 2-year mark before it had issues where it would stop boiling midway through so I had to keep pressing START to finish the boil. I held onto it for another year but by then it kept turning off, would only boil if it was kept in the one position (if it was off it would not work) and would boil until the water nearly… Read more
exploded out of it. I am just about to use my extended warranty to get it replaced. What surprises me is that the kettle has since gone up in price even though there are a number of complaints about it. Maybe Breville should place customer satisfaction before profits!
electrical fault, crap machine – machine kept turning on and off, making beeping sounds, worst machine ever. $15 kettle from kmart works a million times better. Embarrassing for Breville and if they make crap machines like this, what is it saying about their business. Show details
Kettle that just Rust – The only thing I found wrong with This model it always rust after 4 months of use, I had it replaced under warranty, but it still rust on the top under the lid where it has been bend to support the lid, it might be because when they stretch the stainless steel it does not get treated.
