Breville Milk Cafe BMF600 Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPNs: 1180, 35904060, BMF600 and BMF600BSSMy Breville Milk Cafe BMF600XL/B is 1 1/2 years old. I use it half of the year as I live in Maine and Florida in the wintertime. I use it every day for one cup per day. I have one Milk Cafe appliance at my northern home and one in my Florida home. So it sits idle for 6 months. I use Oatey Oat Milk while adding Hershey cocoa, powdered mushrooms,, coconut oil after the milk is warmed a bit, and and then add 2 shots of espresso. The frothed milk has become not as hot as it originally was to the point that I am considering ordering a new one. Anybody out there know of a way to improve on getting the heat back up to where it once was?
Most likely a problem with heating element, keep jug and lid as spare, buy another.
My machine is only working for a couple of seconds can you tell what is going on please
we are finding that even filling the jug with milk to under the max capp line, we are getting leaked foam in bottom of machine? why is this happening?
If you are getting milk in the machine then you must have a crack somewhere . Take the jug off the machine, fill it with water ,place it on a clean dry surface and see if you have a leak , if so then contact the manufacturer for a replacement under warranty .There is only one place the jug can leak and that is at the bottom so regardless of the quantity of milk in the jug if it leaks it will leak with the level higher than the centre piece.
I have recently purchased this product and have no problems,There must be a tiny imperfection somewhere in the jug. Return it for replacement.
My machine when I press start will spin for a 2 seconds then stop and start beeping. What can I do to fix this so that I can just press the start button and it starts up?
Reset your machine. turn off power and turn dial back to cold spin and start again. Check if all vents at the bottom are clear. If this doesn't work you should call breville for support. Good luck!
What temp range does this heat up to?
There is a dial that you can adjust the temp on. There is an optimal range for frothing (60 degrees). However, mine doesn't work in that range any more and also at the 70 degrees mark. Over 70 degrees is the max for the frother.
The temperature is set via a dial that can reach a maximum of 70 degrees Celsius. I find that I have mine set at 70 at all times but doesn’t ever feel quite hot enough.
Thankyou, would like something a bit hotter
We leave it at the max setting and find it hot enough for us. It is definitely over 60 degrees and use it instead of our Jura Z7 coffee machine’s milk system which is just not hot enough.
It's plenty hot enough and if you were to have the milk any hotter than you would burn your mouth and also burn the milk ,so you don't want to drink burnt milk.
I have a Breville Milk Cafe Model BMF600 /B which has worked successfully for several years, and I have replaced the latte disc recently, but now it no longer rotates.I have followed instructions from the manual with no success. Please help!
Hi Ian, Have you tried the Cappuccino Disc? If it works, then the new Latte disc may be faulty. If it doesn't rotate then I would say that the motor is not working. If that is the case, you would need to contact Breville customer support on 1300 139 798. If the unit needs to be returned for out of warranty repair, you may have to weigh up whether it may be better to simply replace the unit with a new one.
Hope this helps. Kev
I have found the disc sometimes doesn't spin if it is not fitted correctly or clicked home . You may think it is fitted correctly but sometimes it just needs to be pulled out and re seated.
My Breville Cafe Milk Frother has just started beeping. Sometimes its intermittent and others it continuous. Anybody know why?? Its still heating and frothing normally.
Hi Maryanne, Sorry, don't know of any easy fix for this problem. Sounds like it needs to be sent to the service department. As with computers, you could try unplugging the unit & leaving it unplugged for an hour or two. This may reset the beeping.

I had the same problem...three beeps of death...looks like the induction heater failed. If you are a DIY person or know one, you can salvage the frother part...not the induction heating part...see: external link
The problem is NOT an induction heater failure. The problem is that an internal sensing mechanism* has picked up a magnetic field over the years of use and is causing an error. The fix is to take a VERY strong magnet (I used a 5cm x 2.5cm ~N45) and with the unit turned off and the cup removed, take the magnet and make a few circular passes at where the bottom of the cup would rest. This will remove the magnetic field problem and your frother will work. If your magnet is NOT strong enough, the problem may return only after a few uses. AND DO NOT LISTEN TO PIERRE BRIDGE ... that option is a NOT a solution. His suggestion and his pictures demonstrate that he has neither the appropriate understanding or skills in this realm.
* I understand the issue but I have no need to tear the unit apart to identify the specific tyoe of sensor involved as the fix returns the frother to proper function.
Three beeps be gone. It worked!!! If stops working I’ll try a stronger magnet. Thx for your wizardry. :-)
I am so happy, the fix with the strong magnet worked. Thank you thegooddoctor!!!
Hi, just wondering if anyone knows what the repeated single beep during frothing is for? I assume it's an alert of some sort but all of my searches don't provide an answer. fyi - the base is clean and dry, the jug is clean and dry with cold fresh milk in it (between the min and max levels), the disc is in correctly, it is heating and frothing appropriately but I keep getting a single beep throughout the process.
I am having the same problem, except it is multiple beeps at odd intervals. Did you ever find out?
I am having the same issue. My machine is just over 12 months old. Did anyone get any answers??
I never got a response/answer and ended up returning mine and getting it replaced. New one doesn’t do it.

Mine is going the same, beeping all throughout the heating cycle. So I dont think it is the induction heater failing. It still works though so I put up with it!
Mine is the same. It’s been doing it consistent for over 3 months. Still no answers tho…

I can’t believe this worked. Amazing! It’s been a week and still going strong. Even better than before as now it’s frothing better and drink is hotter. I thought it was slowly dying as I was having to put drinks in microwave after it was done with the cycle at hottest temp. Now I’m waiting for it to cool down a bit. Love it! Thanks thegooddoctor
Magnet trick worked for me too! It was still beeping throughout the cycle so while it's on i turned the dial all the way up and then all the way down and then back to the desired temp and the beeping is gone and the milk is Mother and hotter than I can remember!
I was ready to buy a new Breville but before that I wanted to to try the strong magnet fix on my 9 years old frother. It worked so well. Thanks a lot thegooddoctor
Magnet DID NOT work. In the past making sure everything was dry and unplugging the unit has always worked. Now nothing works, just the three beeps of death over and over again.
How can i be sure that I get a creamy top to my cappuccino rather than loads of tasteless foam. I want a cappuccino as good as one made by a well trained barista.
It will all depend on the milk you use. The creamiest froth is from using the latte disc on a full cream milk;)
can i make only 1 cup latte instead of 3 cups at once in this milk frother ?
Is there anything you can do to stop the build up on the bottom of the frother? Any recommendations to clean it? I usually have to scrape it with a knife..
Not really. Just need to scrape the burnt milk off every now and again.
I've never had a build up but that may be because I use the special sponges to clean stainless steel surfaces: STEELO brand;)
I have never had a build up but I only use it for milk (no powders, chocolate, etc). Once I pour the milk out I run hot water through my coffee machine into the jug so it cleans both my coffee machine and rinses the jug at the same time. I then put it in the top shelf of my dishwasher to be cleaned. I've never used any scourers etc on it so mine is still smooth inside so not sure if that is what helps mine not to stick.
I often end up with a bit of extra milk/foam so put the jug into the fridge and just top it up the next time. If not, I rinse it in hot soapy water with a soft bottle brush. I never have any buildup.
Boil 2 cups of water in the microwave, poor it into the carafe, add 2+ tablespoons of Urnex Clearly Coffee Pot Cleaner (available on amazon) and swirl with a large bottle brush. Repeat if necessary. Lastly wash & rinse using your preferred dish soap. We've been using this method for years and if you clean as soon as you have a light brown stain it takes less than a minute to remove the residue.
Dear BREVILLE I have a BMF600XL that has stopped frothing. I have tried various types of milk, 1%, 2%, 3.5%. Even 35% Costco almond. I have used various temperature settings. Always cold , from the fridge milk. It used to froth to just under the lid, when only filled to slightly over the min mark. That was delicious. Now, I get maybe a tablespoon of weak foam. Help me please Breville! I see others have had similar issues. This was the highest rated and very expensive frother!
I'm having this same issue. Worked fine yesterday. Now today, weak foam and it just beeps. Did yours ever start working well again?
Yes I’m having the same issue too… any hints?
mine is doing the same.. have only had it two weeks..treated it with care..always washed right away..frustrating.
Mine is doing the same. Worked well for a while, and now it doesn't froth the milk.
Following.... I have purchased and returned 2 BRAND NEW BMF600XL machines in the past week, and right out of the box I am having the very same experience! I thought, "third time lucky" and nope... third unit is still not producing any foam. I've also tried both discs on all machines, tied different types/fat content milks, with no luck. I spoke with Customer service and all they told me was to return it and "try again". I had my previous Breville for nearly 10 years before it pooped out, and I am just so sad that this is not going to work out. I wish I knew what the problem was. It sounds like I'm not alone here....
My Breville milk cafe is not working , the disk come out , and doesn’t froth , I have tried both disks , both not working , is the problem in machine or from disks ?
Ask breville
The light on my Breville milk cafe will somethings turn on. I can't seem to find any cause for it. Today after completing the frothing cycle, the light wouldn't turn off. I do not unplug it between uses. Would this be contributing to this problem?
The same thing happens to mine periodically…my unit is about 5 years old already…I cant find an answer…
I have the same problem. It spontaneously comes on and off. Customer service tells me I need to keep it unplugged except when in use and use only a dedicated outlet. This began when the unit was 2 months old. I suspect it's defective. I used my old unit for 10 years and this never happened.
Will I get sutable froth from re constituted cold skim milk (made from powder )?
Unable to help with skim milk but I get good froth with Lactose Free milk.
Try it and report back here
It is no longer stops, and keep frothing forever until i stop it manually, is there and solutions?
I've just recently bought this and find that it doesn't froth properly if I put in more than one cup of milk. Looked at the trouble shooting guide and it says "ensure light is illuminated, not flashing" but mine is always flashing. I also don't think it gets hot enough.
Recently my Breville Milk Frother has stopped working for almond milk. It still froths fresh Woolworths Hi Lo milk and the almond milk brand remains the same. I've tried thouroughly washing the disk with no luck. I can't work out why this milk suddenly no longer froths and only heats?
Same thing happened to me
I find it depends on the brand of Almond Milk. Costco almond milk is the only almond milk that my machine will froth
is there a reset feature??
Hi Marty, I’d like to say there is a reset button. I have searched the product thoroughly and could not see anything myself. Therefore, and I’m sorry to say this, this may be a question for Breville. To date, i have had no issues with our frother. Sorry I wasn’t much of assistance. Will keep an eye on your follow up from Breville. Luck.
Can you put powder in before you pour in the milk or do you have to start to heat the milk then add power for my chai?
We have added cocoa powder in first, and works well. Due to the milk being rotated by spool, the powder is blended with the milk. Using a good quality cocoa powder also helps. Enjoy.
Awesome thank you :)
I also make cocoa in mine, adding the cocoa along with the milk. It doesn't froth as much but does mix it well.
I can get perfect froth with soy milk but can only achieve hot milk and a few big bubbles when using Woolworths Lite milk. I’ve tried both discs. The temp setting is 60 degrees and I’ve tried filling to the minimum and maximum levels.
Silk soy milk works best
Sorry I can already get good froth using soy milk. I cannot get any froth with dairy milk - the Woolworths lite dairy milk.
I use almond milk but have tried low fat cows milk and have not had good results with the latter.
Due to the fat content in full cream milk, this gives it the froth. Lite milk is less heavy and this is why you are lacking the froth. Personally, haven’t tried the almond or soy, but generally it needs full cream to give it a good froth. Hope I helped. Cheers
