Good concept, but needs a Mark 2 version of this! – I've had it for near 2 years now, but it's time to replace it as the non-stick surface on the plates has gone and it's pretty much like a rusty BBQ plate clean job now before use, needing a wipe of olive oil before use, replacement plates don't seem to be available and Breville has not replied to my queries about purchasing them. It cooks… Read more

everything great, eggs, steak, toasted sandwiches, mushrooms, fish, potato chips, vegetarian stuff for the GF, simple, fast & fat free. Drip tray size iis fine, it should after each use anyway, depends what you cook as to how often, I've never filled it in a single cooking session.

It needs an option to switch off the top plate as I like to be able to just fry a couple of eggs with it open and being partially blind means I risk burning myself on the top plate as well as it being wasted electricity. The dish washing ability of the plates is great, but I do encounter the problem with the top plate coming loose, I have to really check it isn't before every use. If they can make a new model with replaceable plates available and fix the top plate falling off issue this would be a winner.

I'm tempted to buy another just to get new plates, but know it will have the same issue, but can't find anything better with removable plates. The upper model looks good but still can't turn off the top plate when not in use. Removable dish washable plates, drip tray works. Safety issues, Top plate falls off, can't turn off the top plate when not in use. No response from query about getting replacement plates as surface has worn off.

Love it already – I puchased this last weekend after reading the reviews here - I contacted Breville directly and stated that 25% of the reviews on this site said the top plate was prone to detaching when hot, and received a reply that they have addressed and rectified the problem. Hope that's the case! I've used it only twice so far - to cook a steak, make sweet… Read more

potato "chips", and to cook sausages and onion.

So far it's done a great job - the steak was moist and juicy, despite being a bit well done (I followed the instruction book's times - next time I will cook it for a shorter time), the sausages were fantastic. The sweet potato also worked well. If I'd had the flat plate on, I'm sure the onions would've been better (as I was cooking them with the sausages, I simply put a piece of foil over the side I put the onions on).

The best feature is the detachable plates - so easy to clean! Also more light weight than I would've thought. I love that it comes with a separate flat bottom plate for cooking eggs etc.

I like that the drip tray is incorporated into the grill, not a separate item you have to position under the front lip. I also like the height locking mechanism, where you can alter the height of the top plate, so that it doesn't touch the food directly (good for open melts etc) or not touches it but without the full weight behind it (I used this for the sausages, after reading comments that sausages tend to get squashed - I had the top plate so it was in contact, but not pressing down full weight on them - they cooked perfectly and didn't squash, and they were just plain old Coles brand beef sausages).

I was originally looking at a George Foreman grill, but after seeing this one, it won hands down, and I'm so glad I bought it. At $174 it's more expensive than the GF, but I guess you pay for the convenience of the removable plates. I don't have a dishwasher, but understand you can put them in the dishwasher.

I'm planning to use this when I don't have a kitchen for several weeks next month, and my cooking world for those few weeks has just opened up enormously! I can see that I'll continue to use it a lot into the future as well, so I think it's an overall good bargain. Detachable plates, ease of cleaning, drip tray incorporated. Floating hinge and and height locking mechanism. Nothing so far.

The best compact grill – I went ahead to buy this grill with the blessing of 2 friends who work in the small appliance business. Well priced and despite concerns about how the plates can dislodge on its own, I have been very happy. So easy to clean because the plates come off and get cleaned in the sink. 2 levels of heat is good enough. Unit tilts for grease draining.… Read more ·  1

Nice design - stands vertically for storage. Love it. Value priced. Nice design. Simple to use. Height adjustment useful so the sandwich/meat doesn't get squished. Cord could be longer. Grease container could be more visible.

Fantastic grill with removable cooking plates – We have only had our Breville ikon Grill for a week or so but we have used a couple of times and had no problems with the plates becoming dislodged when the grill is heated. The grill plates are so easy to clean either by hand or in the dishwasher. Brilliant idea! Easy to clean  Show reply

Fantastic griller but dangerous – The griller and the IDEA of removable plates is fantastic. However, each time my griller heats up, the top plate at least (and sometimes the lower plate as well) dislodges from its mounting and spills the now very hot plate out onto the food preparation area. I love the griller, but I won't let my wife use it. I have a pair of tongs with soft… Read more

protection available and re-insert the offending plate(s. This occurs about 8 out of 10 uses.

By the way, I check the plates are in position before I turn it on just to make sure that it's not poorly assembled. I also ensure that my hands and fingers are nowhere near the 'release' buttons as I lift the handle to put my steak on the plate.

Hot plate self detaches and becomes a missile – Great idea to have removable grills, i love it. However, when hot, the top plate has started to dislodge itself from the clip holding it in. On one occasion when I had the grill on a tilt cooking meat, it dislodged and became a red hot missile flying across the kitchen to land on the floor (it skimmed over the benchtop). VERY Unsafe. It was not… Read more

me, I have checked and checked that it was properly inserted, but it continued to come loose. The clip is in fact loose. I took it back to the shop as it was still under warranty, and the shop replaced it this week.

The replacement has a grill which is permanently stuck IN and in fact I cannot remove it at all so cannot use the grill now. I will go back to the shop and see what they say.

This seems to be a design fault. If Breville could remedy this, it would be a great machine. As it is, it is too dangerous and i would not recommend it. great idea to have removable grills. Terrific to cook with. Easy to clean. Dangerous clip holding top plate in. Once hot, becomes dislodged.

Great Grill – Had this grill about 18 months and have used it quite a lot for both grills and toasted sandwiches so plenty of experience with this item. It is good. There are two ribbed plates for grilling and one smooth for other items. The plates are very easy to remove/replace and being non-stick are VERY easy to clean. Like all items it will take you a… Read more

few trials to learn to cook things exactly the way you want but apart from a few irritations, like the too small drip tray!!, it is a terrific kitchen appliance. removable interchangable plates, non stick, height adjustable drip tray too small

Excellent – This grill is absolutely awesome!! Easy to clean with removable plates- its better than any other grill! George Foreman created the idea- but the Breville Ikon outdid it by improving the idea and building on the whole concept. Removable plates! Heat control! Adjustable height so you don't squash anything! tilt control! Includes a flat plate too!… Read more

Excellent – Well worth the investment! This is the best thing we bought with our wedding money. It's the greatest griller I've ever used. The size is ideal for a couple. (I'st probably is too small for a family sized meal.) It has high heat for meat with a tilt function so the grease drains away from the food (very healthy) and a low heat option for… Read more

sandwiches. Steaks cook twice as fast since they are heated from 2 sides and they turn out juicey and delicious.

The removable plates are the best part, because it makes cleaning way easier than the Foreman Grill. They have two hooks and a latch to secure them, so you can feel how sturdy they are. I didn't like how wobbly the Sunbeam removable plates were. You can tell the Ikon is designed to last.

Don't forget to set it to flat before cooking eggs on it though. I made quite a mess when I forgot that!! Great healthy grilling. Removable plates are easy to clean. Great sturdy design. Grease trap is in the machine and easy to pop out an clean. Only has one flat plate so sandwiches will have indents on one side. No off switch.

Brilliant! – We've had a griller with fixed plates in the past which was a nightmare to clean. The removable plates on this griller are brilliant. So easy to clean. Does a good job of toasted sandwiches and grilled meats. Cooks quickly and evenly. Fat drains away so its healthy too. Easy to clean A bit slow to heat up
