This was purchased in August 2022. Tonight I discovered the legs on the replacement tray, wouldn't come down. There was a bit of plastic blocking it, that I removed. After trying to bend the leg more, it came out, and seperated from the tray. Replacement cost $201.95 Show details

Don’t buy this product, it looks fancy and has soft touch door but who cares about it as long it does its job. For the price I would expect a better quality but just over 2 years, it still runs however does not heat up at all. I called customer service and got referred to a repair store where they told me would cost $300-$400 for error 5.… Read more

Thankfully Breville did offer another option to give me 40% off on a full price Breville microwave which I will definitely go back to the traditional basic one.

I Just Love this Microwave!!!! – Well some months ago now I decided to look for a New Microwave Oven. When I started doing my research it was a minefield!! I was very interested in User Comments regarding the many Microwaves that I looked at - and most of them were really negative except for this one, the Breville Smooth Wave. I did further research on the Smooth Wave and there… Read more

were many Positive Comments. It was On Special at David Jones and included Free Express Delivery, so I went for it!! I have to tell you, in all honesty, it is by far the Best Microwave I have ever owned, and I don't say that lightly. My last Microwave had a very intense light on the display and this was very noticeable at night, where it was far too bright. This is not the case with the Breville. The Display only stays on when you need it and then turns off - which I am very pleased about!! The positive are many - Very easy to operate Very quiet compared to my last one Looks amazing on the kitchen benchtop LOVE the way the door closes - quietly and almost automatically Easy to read display I can see what's cooking from the outside Interior light is adequate The stainless steel is, in my opinion, relatively easy to keep clean The audible alarm isn't too loud and I am happy with that.

I don't do a lot of cooking to be honest - mostly heating things up - but this microwave is well built and more than suitable for all my needs.

Negatives - I'm thinking but I really don't have any at the moment after 2 months of use.

Great job Breville for producing such a really great machine!!!

Love everything about it – The previous two 5 star reviews have said it all. This machine is the best for ease of use. It is so quiet and did I say easy to use. I love the dials. So easy to use. There is a light behind the lettering on all the main dials. The use of the microwave is intuitive. No pushing on flimsy unlit keypads that will not always register the… Read more

request. And it is quiet. Did I mention that? Easy to change the power setting and time even when the microwave is in operation. Unlike the keypad type that had to be stopped and then push in new power and time settings. Big well-lit screen that is easy to see the power setting and time remaining. The little chimes are not annoying. The cool down is quick and quiet. And the smooth wave is great. It is obvious that the klystron is not turning off and on at lower then 100% heat settings. It is really a smooth unit. I have no problem with the quality of the food after microwaving and find it provides even heating.

Love this microwave! – I really like this microwave. I like the fact it has knobs and not a touch screen that always seems to fail quickly. It has a very even heating system. The instructions on the microwave on how to cook, defrost or reheat are clear and easy to use and they work fabulously. Defrost chicken without cooking parts of it. Reheat a dish to the perfect… Read more

temperature without setting anything the microwave does it all with one button press! Defrosting and reheating works really well from a slice of pizza to a whole casserole. Nothing is dried out and it is evenly heated or defrosted. The size of the machine is good too. All my dishes fit in it but it’s not too big. The screen is large and easy to read. It lights up orange when heating and changes to white when it is in cool down. The cool down phase will increase the life of the microwave so I am happy to put up with that. It is very quiet when it is on. The smart buttons inside the door work really well. All the settings are so very easy to use. The soft close door is great. One tiny push and it closes. I have read reviews where it has failed. All I can say is that these systems are designed never to be forced close. Just like an auto close toilet seat it takes just one person to push the toilet seat down and it doesn’t work again. So if you want your soft close door to work perfectly never force it close, just let it do its thing. I like the stainless steel exterior as it is easy to clean and matches our other appliances. The instructions say not to cover food and I was so worried I’d be constantly cleaning it but the heating and melting cycles are so good that there isn’t any splatter. Amazing. Worth every penny.

An excellent purchase – I purchased the smooth wave two weeks ago and the whole family is so happy with it. Compared to our previous Breville it is noticeably quieter, weighs 5 kilos less and has a slightly smaller frame. However the internal space is the same and it is 100w more powerful. Apart from the more comfortable sound level, we are all enjoying the automatic… Read more

sensor function for cooking, reheating and defrosting. This is truly amazing - frozen items emerge perfectly defrosted without being cooked on the edges, reheated foods are perfectly evenly reheated without any splatter on the inside of the microwave. Every mother’s ideal microwave! I could never go back to a microwave without this function. The turntable rotation can be turned off for larger platters, rectangular and oblong dishes. Inside the door, there are also automatic reheating settings for beverages, bacon and pizza slices, just enter the number of items in the microwave and off it goes with perfect results. Melting chocolate and butter settings are also inside the door. There is also a keep warm function and you can preset a favourite function inside the door as well. It beeps to alert you it is done and End shows on the screen. This is necessary as the cooking fans will very quietly continue for up to 30 seconds after the job is done. I really like the quick automatic settings inside the door. They are super easy to use and it means the front of the microwave has a simple uncluttered appearance. Especially good for people who don’t want to bother with extra shortcuts. The softclose door does take a bit of getting used to - we put a sticky post it note on the door handle for a few days to remind us all not to push the door closed. Doing so would probably damage the soft close feature, I assume. The beep volumes and sounds can be muted and changed according to your own taste. The lighting is less bright than my old microwave but it is fine. This smooth wave is more expensive than many microwaves but everyone in our family feels it is worth it. It is a real pleasure to use, no splatter at all, perfect heating and quiet. Would have bought years ago if I had realised the difference these features offer to our lifestyle. I was fortunate to pick up a display model at a very cheap price but even at the full price it is worth it.

Pricey but good – Relatively expensive as microwaves go, but it does work really well. Good points: Soft close door. Very quiet in operation, and the timer beeps can be turned down, or even off. Easy to open with a big door handle. Very easy to use controls. Excellent at program defrosting of chook, meats etc. and the various sensor cooking cycles for veggies,… Read more

potatoes etc give very good results.

Bad points: The dials and door latch do feel somewhat flimsy, and the overall build quality doesn't feel all that great. The interior is dark painted (like many microwaves), which makes it harder to see in when cooking (for example to check that something isn't boiling over), and also harder to see when cleaning - why? Many Sharp microwaves still have a light coloured interior which is much better to live with, especially for cleaning. The stainless steel exterior is also hard to clean and a real fingerprint magnet.

Somewhat odd is the weight selection for some of the defrost cycles - for example when turning the dial to select the weight of chicken pieces to defrost, it goes up in increments of 50g until it reaches 450g, then it jumps to 700g. So bad luck if you want to defrost say, 600g.

Note that although Breville still appears to be an Australian owned company, the microwave is manufactured in China.

So from a look and feel perspective - I'd say average. But as far as actual performance goes - excellent.
