Britax Safe-n-Sound Graphene

Frustrating – I bought this car seat because it is compact and highly recommended; however, I find it very difficult to use and have concerns regarding safety. The main issue I have is with the seatbelt straps. 1. They don't have enough slack so it is difficult getting my newborn into and out of the seat comfortably (even with padding removed). And she's a small baby!
2. The straps have also become twisted and it is hard to now tighten them enough so I worry about the safety of my baby. It is not a secure fit.
I also find the seat coverings hard to take apart and reassemble for cleaning, which is problematic since my baby is a spewer. The manual and Britax website are no help in this regard. If I hadn't spent so much on this seat, I'd be looking for an alternative.

Excellent well designed car seat – Our newborn enjoys using the Britax Safe n Sound Graphene carseat. We ordered this from Baby Bunting in December 2018 and have found it to be very sturdy, well built and offering excellent protection. The car seat is designed to be both rear and forward facing with the necessary adjustments available to grow with your bub. It's not too large so depending on your car, you may still be able to fit two people alongside in the rear seat. I really appreciate the little touches like the seat belt holders which keep the two pieces in place whilst you are putting bub in/taking out, as well as everything being easily removable and washable for when (not if) those types of accidents occur. The seat is easy to use and fits into ISOFIX mounts. Price is reasonable and whilst not "cheap", it's not too expensive and feels like it will last a while.

* Note I am posting this here as I tried to post on the baby bunting website and they deleted it * I had two of these seats. While I was driving my 6 month old baby was asleep in the seat. I looked in the mirror and noticed she was falling out of the seat over into the middle backseat. I could see the back of her head bent over her body and… Read more
freaked out. I had to pull over to on the motorway to check on her and noticed the buckle was undone on one side. I fastened it again and then continued driving. I stopped 15 minutes later to check on her because I was so stressed and the buckle was undone again! It was working fine when I did it up both times. We checked it is locking in and fastening correctly yet it was spontaneously opening. I called the manufacturer for advice and they said sand, food, dirt, fluff can get in the buckle and stop it from working and to clean it out with water. I told them there is no way any of this is in the buckle the baby is 6 months old and does not go to the beach or play in dirt, or eat food in the seat. They said in hindsight yes it is not likely and said it must be faulty and to send it back so they can review it. I told them I am sending both seats back, I don’t want them and do not trust that they are safe. The britax customer service rep said in all her years of working there she can count on her hand how many times this has happened, and to keep the second seat because its statistically not likely to be faulty as well. I asked my mum friends if this has happened to any of them and they confirmed it happened to their capsule too which is the same brand. The britax rep in store was rude and unhelpful, didn’t apologise on behalf of the company and suggested I mustn’t have fastened the seatbelt right despite using it for 6 months with no issue, even though Britax customer service admitted they have seen this before and Baby Bunting had said they had seen it once too. Baby bunting refunded both seats, britax would not. Britax were absolutely shocking. We now use maxi cosi.

Recline mode isn't reclined at all – When it is rear-facing there is absolutely no room and your kids knees will be in their face. When it's forward facing the mode they call "recline" isn't reclined at all making it more dangerous. For our second car we bought a cheaper maxi cosi and it turns out that one is better in basically every way

Love it – Its very comfortable, very easy to use, great adjustment belts, stable sturdy isofix , memory foam was the deal breaker for me)) also the beautiful look, i got the grey one so it doesnt get too hot in summer)) Separate thanx to baby bunting Frankston for helpful advice (regarding small/big space in the car), so we picked the right fit car seat Show details · 1
Great option for smaller backseats – We orginally brought the millenia and it was too big for my husband's car so we swapped it for the Graphene model and it fits perfectly in his BMW 1 series. We feel safe with our baby in this car seat. It is has a great amount of padding around his head and is easy to adjust. Show details · 1

Re-think before you buy this – Before you read, yes we havehad this insatlled properlt by baby bunting and had them recommen this product. My issues with this product are 1:The Belt that goes on the side with the grey button to loosen is extremely hard to use, which means instead of being bothered to fiddle around with this for couple of minutes while my baby cracks it I put… Read more
her over it, not covenant not ideal!! Tried this car seat at all ages Newborn and 8/9 months At the start: Unusable for a newborn it says it is but it was extremely difficult to get baby in and out even with the taking off the side strap and our baby cried heaps during all this. The paddong looks cute but it was a terribule choicr to buy this car seat. ( we opted for a capsule which was a Maxi Cosi and we got that from Baby bunting on a pay each moneth rent thing they have) This capsule comes with adaptors for prams especially Vista which we have it was fantsic, easy to use easy to put bubba in and out and was comftorable it was so easy to put onto pram and adaptors where easy to take on and off if need to use bassinet insteas on pram. Highly recommend doing it this way also added bonus your baby can sleep whenver for however long they want which lets be honest who dosn't want that!
2: The seatbelt loosen and tighten is quite difficult to do and it always had a habbit of getting tangled
3. My baby loves to look around so she is constantly leaning forward even with seatbelt snug trying to see out the window, due to the way the seat is designed she is constantly putting her head forward and is very temperamental about putting her head back. Hence why we have chosen to go with the Secure Safe Guard Elite because she can sit cosy and snug and still see out the window, the design of the chair, It is a bit different. Also i,t has a different mechanism for the belt that goes on the side most other car seats have the standard grey button to push to loosen so I refused to get that.
But I do think the Britax is a car seat Baby bunting almost force on you and tell you its the best but from a mum and first time mum I was so very disappointed in this product and even more frustrated that it was so expensive plus when I went back to Baby Bunting they tried to sell me the same one.
You have to use what is comfortable for you, not what everyone says is great what works for you and this product just did not work for us. And do not get it if you plan on using it from the hospital like right away which is what we did. Disaster! Even trying this car seat at 8 and 9 months still having these issues. So just my opinion but I would strongly advise to reconsider before purchasing this car seat

2 thumbs up for fitting 3 across the back seat! – When we found out we were expecting twins, one of our many challenges was figuring out how to get three car seats across the back of our car. At the baby expo we spoke to a very helpful, informative sales rep who recommended the Graphene for being slimline and top quality. Baby Bunting let us try two in our back seat with our existing car seat,… Read more · 1
proving they could fit easily (rear and front facing), leaving plenty of legroom for the driver and passenger, and the rest is history.
With double the opportunities for soiling car seats we have washed these many times - they are quick and easy to strip... ALL parts of material - a pretty key factor which we learnt from having a car seat on which the shoulder covers didn’t remove. Eeek.
We used to joke these car seats were like baby clouds - as very little babies they were obviously quite comfortable in them, pooping every time we went somewhere. Every. Single. Time. At the time I remember reading on online forums that a number of other parents were having the same experience with the Graphene. Now that’s a comfy ride!
Overall we’re very happy with them, and at over 2yo and still looking brand new, are more than satisfied with the quality, safety and functionality.
Used from birth – Was tossing up getting a capsule first and then car seat but decided to just get the Graphene as it’s convertible with the newborn inserts. Used it to take bubs home from the hospital and the first car ride went well - no crying or anything. Fit well even as a small baby. The next few rides as she got older was more difficult. really hot even though it’s supposed to be one of the cooler bamboo materials and with car tinted windows. Not sure if it’s because we got the black colour. It helped to get a window sock to block out some heat. Took the inserts out at about 3 months once the legs couldn’t “frog” and it’s a lot easier to take bubs in and out although the tether is annoying. Would be good if there was an option to clip or unclip easily. Have removed covers twice now to wash poonamis. Have only washed the main cover as not sure the head rest restraint padding is still safe to wash.
Would maybe consider a capsule next time just because it’ll be nice to not wake a newborn during transfers.

Fabulous car seat – We've had this seat 2 years and used it rear facing and forward facing for my son. Great seat, easy to install and sons are comfy. I took all the fabric covers off and washed them in the washing machine ready for our second son. They washed well and all went back on easily. We have the Brava for my car and the Graphene is slightly more plush but otherwise very similar. Both are great seats, the Brava a bit cheaper. Show details
the best car seat in the market for its price, safety and easy installation – This is the best car seat in the market for its price, safety and easy installation. This can be best for small or big cars, this doesn’t occupy much space. I would highly recommend this car seat to anyone planning to get a car seat for newborn. this one. I switched from maxi cosi mico plus capsules to this after many research. It was worth it. Only regret is I should have gotten earlier instead of the capsule as bub seems so comfortable on this car seat.
My small recommendation to company would be to create like a video version of installation particularly on this model. It would be a great help for first time parents.
Quality and safe – Has been a good car seat since my son was about 6 months old. The few issues I have encountered are, the cover is sometimes difficult to remove and wash, the tightening mechanism sometimes gets stuck and you aren't able to fully tighten, the chest/waist straps sometimes get twisted within the seat itslelf and are difficult to untwist quickly. All in all, it has been a quality product and I could recommend this to other parents. Show details · 1

The new v2 is narrower? – We have two Graphene, one we purchased last year and one this year which appears to be the new v2 which doesn’t appear in any photos at all. I actually had to call to check because on comparing to our other it’s different. I love the one from last year, bub is super happy and comfy, it seems to be easy to strap him in. The v2 he hates, cries and… Read more
cries, it seems narrower and shorted? The straps are very stiff also and difficult to tighten. Can’t compare specs because no where seems to say these, all still displaying the older ones on websites. There is a noticeable difference in his position, the space in the seat, and strapping go him in compared to last years and I really don’t like this new one. I’m annoyed I never got given the older one given it’s what I purchased online

Faulty and dangerous – Upon putting my rear facing daughter into her seat I noticed the harness straps were super loose. They released on their own. Pulled strap to tighten and nothing, back to loose. The mechanism to hold the belt tight had failed. Thank goodness it didn’t fail while driving or in an accident! Super dangerous. So I messaged britax and their solution… Read more
was to return it to them and forfeit having a seat for my child. Not really good enough. I’m so disappointed in the seat to begin with (compared to infasecure Quattro it’s just not even in the same ball park) given it failed in its most basic job, to restrain. But the customer support is lacking. Sending my seat away and being left with nothing isn’t good enough britax.

Hard to use – I purchased this because I wanted the extra security/padding/airbags etc. My only complaint is that its a tight squeeze to get my baby out as their shoulders seem to get stuck, and the straps are awfully hard to loosen and at times feel too tight. Show details

Bought three in 18 months, no issues – We bought three of these over the past 18 months, no issues. Material is good quality, no visible wear or fade. Comes with both Isofix and seatbelt retention systems, but Isofix is much more secure (and easy to use - easy enough that you could take the seat in and out regularly without fuss). Good Product – Easy to clean and doesn’t take up to much space in a small SUV. (CX-5) And ( X1 ) Extra head support (Torso Side Impact Cushion Technology - SICT) was a winner for us! Did you know! Been using for over a year with no issues! Would highly recommend if your looking for a smaller car seat and want peace of mind on safety.
Excellent quality and comfy – My daughter used to cry in her old seat and she enjoyed this one the moment we installed it. Got it from baby buntings and installed it on site. Safety features go without the saying. It is also of great quality. Easy to set straps aside and adjust. Have been using it for 3, 4 months now with zero problem. Highly recommend. Show details · 1
Easy to use and get baby safe and secure – Best car seat purchased so far. I have had other brands but are not so user friendly to adjust once you get baby in the seat. I would highly recommend this baby seat to anyone looking at purchasing one Show details · 1
Excellent car seat , my baby loves it – My son loves this car seat - it's comfortable and I find that there is less crying. We got it installed professionally. It is easy to put him in it and out. Smaller version of the millenia which we were going to get but realised we wouldn't have much room for other passengers so we bought this one instead. Great price too as I bought during an eBay sale. Love love love – my son use to scream every time we got in the car! From birth, this was concerning. We were told he was a baby who just didnt like the car.. We purchased the graphene and have not looked back! He sleeps so much, and just plays in the back while he is awake! Now 5 months old and big for his age (size 1) he still has a fair while left rear facing! We love it! Show details · 1
Amazing! – My son sit so comfortablly in this seat. I purchased for the amazing safety features and the airbags in the seat. I wouldn't ever go past this seat if I were to need another. Show reply

Perfect for our little one – Seat was extremely easy to fit, affordable, easy to get bub in and out of and looks great. Very happy with this product. Would definitely recommend. Fits nicely in a small golf and Triton Ute. Show details · 1
good buy with all safety features – We knew when purchasing a car seat that we were going with britax no matter what. No other company compares to their safety ratings. We originally wanted the Millenia but when we met with the britax consultant he recommended the slimmer graphene due to our car size (sedan toyota). This seat is fantastic! Have found it so easy to use and a breeze to install. So far, so good :) Show details · 1
Nice and Safe for Kia Rio – Car seat was really simple to set up in small Kia Rio for 2 month old. She hated the capsule but seems to be much happier in the car seat. threaded through the new level. The obvious padding really impressed my partner and I as our daughter is quite small so we wanted to make sure there wasn’t too much movement. Fabric is really nice and breathable. Only annoying part is that the strap loosener gets stuck sometimes when getting my baby out of the car but overall this is a really great product and worth the money for long term use.
Great seat & easy install – This is a great seat to use from birth. Isofix install makes it easy to attach & remove seat, so ideal if you need to switch between cars. Great seat but a bit fiddly to loosen straps – Overall a great seat with excellent safety features and our baby seems to love it. Amazing seat – My daughter loves this seat, it was very easy to install and we have taken it in and out 3 times and seems so comfy for her as she doesn’t get agitated or grumpy in it like she did her capsule, seems very safe and reliable. Our child looks so comfortable in it. No more wriggling and crying! – We bought this brand from baby bunting, looks and feels luxurious with soft paddings and our child's heads looks well secured. Compact and secure! – First time buying a car seat for our first born and couldn't be happier with this seat. the car seat. It is super easy to install with nearly all cars these days having the isofix option and handy indicators on the clips to indicate when you have the tension right. The only downside we have is with it in the rear facing position, we have to have the front passenger seat forward quite a bit which can be a squeeze for taller people. This is more of a car size issue though as opposed to something wrong with the seat. Just wasn't something we considered before purchasing. All in all it is a good, safe and easy to install baby seat - would recommend.
Very tight fit for a newborn – I have bought the Graphene due to its compact size to fit in my car. It is not as good as the Millenia, which we use in another vehicle. The Graphene harness has practically no slack to allow you to comfortably position the baby into the seat before you tighten the straps; the lever to loosen the harness is hidden under a flap and can be difficult… Read more
to find unlike the Millenia which is a button that can be seen on the seat; and when the seat is positioned rear-facing, the baby is almost in a seated position, which is a huge safety concern for a baby who cannot hold up its head (and yes I spoke to a fitter about this and they said the seat was fitted correctly).
I should've just bought another Millenia rather than this expensive and hard-to-use seat.

Very disappointed – The arm straps are too loose across my 4.5 month-old baby's chest. For Britax to fix this, the relevant strap at the bottom of the seat that tightens the arm and groin areas needs to be able to tighten several more centimetres. Also, the arm straps get twisted and so it can be challenging to bring all the straps together straight to be buckled at… Read more
the groin. I'm very unimpressed with the ratings body that gave this a good review as I bought it based on that, trusting them. I regret buying this product -I love good design and have found this lacking. I have car trips coming up that I am dreading due to my safety concerns mostly about the loose straps across my baby's chest. It was an expensive purchase -particularly as we bought one for each car. The seat was bought from and installed at Baby Bunting.
