Awesome rice cooker – I have had this for a few years now replacing an old non stick rice cooker. I love the peace of mind all of the high quality stainless steel parts give me. Plus they are all super easy to clean. Like any appliance they always have their quirks, so with this rice cooker I usually have to stop it before the timer is done otherwise the rice burns to… Read more

the bottom, but if you follow the cues of how much steam is coming out, it tells you that the rice is nearly done. I turn it off when there’s just a little bit of water left in the bottom, close the lid and just let the residual heat cook the rest of the water away for a few minutes. I’m yet to cook other things in it but love that I have the option to do that. The only thing that would make it better would be if it had a countdown timer to show how long the cycle has left. I love it, it’s quality, it looks nice, it cooks the most beautiful rice and most of all it’s non toxic

Three cups rice cooker – Have used many rice cooker in my 78 years of life. Buffalo rice cooker is the worst designed cooker. Every time I use it I curse it and wish I have not fallen for their stainless steel gimmick. To start with the bowl is deep inside the cooker which makes it difficult to scoop up the rice with their flat rice scooper. The protruded heat sensor is… Read more

too long which again gets in the way of scooping up the rice. All and all it is not a user friendly cooker.

Looks good and classic but does not cook good rice – This is a feedback for the new Buffalo Cooker KW79, I'd like to share the experience of this new cooker. It looks very good and classic. I have purchased this new cooker and after a few months of cooking the rice, the quality of the cooked rice is not as good as the old cooker KW57. The technology of the new cooker is to heat and blow dry the rice… Read more

and makes the cooked rice hard feeling like overnight rice. When the same rice is cooked by the old cooker KW57, the cooked rice taste and feel a few times better than the new cooker KW79, You can feel and smell the scent of the rice. The rice cooked by the new cooker does not taste good, it also makes a lot of fans noise. Buffalo cooker company does very good service and takes very good care of the customer. My old cooker was faulty a few months ago and Johnny from Buffalo have helped me to repair it, so that I can continue to use my old cooker to cook the good rice while putting the new cooker aside. I really hope that Buffalo still has the spare part and helps me to repair my old cooker failing in the near future. This is not a complaint but solely my own opinion. and of-course I hope that Buffalo can make another new cooker which cooks good rice like the old cooker KW57.

A review from a 10 years user – Seeing the review is quite extreme, I decided to contribute my comment as a smart cooker user for 10 years. I used two smart cookers: a white one and the current gold rose model with IH functions. *Buffalo stainless steel is okay in quality. I bought this rice cooker because of the stainless steel inner pot. Before buying a stainless steel… Read more

rice cooker, I did a lot of research. It's true that stainless steel is a good, durable material, but there will still be marks and cosmetic scratches. As I used the inner pot for the first time, I was surprised to see a sort of rainbow mark in it, and later learned that it is normal for stainless steel. I have used it for four years without any problems.

I once saw rust on a pot after soaking it in water for three days. Fortunately, it washed off. Afterwards, I know that stainless steel will also rust after soaking in water for too long.

*It is difficult to read an English manual.

Maybe Buffalo should make its instruction booklet more user-friendly. The print quality isn't great. English is understandable but a little difficult to read. It appears to be Malaysian English. I am referring to the writing style. Many Malaysians write good English.

*It's an IH rice cooker

Some reviews mention how expensive it is. I believe they are comparing apples with oranges. IH rice cookers are generally more expensive because they are induction cookers. At the time, IH rice cookers ranged from $500 to $800 and I bought the Buffalo IH smart cooker for approximately $390. It performs well. As a downside of induction cooking, it can be noisy, but when I look at another Japanese brand IH rice cooker, I realise that noise is pretty standard with IH rice cookers.

*Reasons for giving 4 stars

The rice cooker generally does its job well. I made porridge over the weekend. My rice was put in water the night before and it was ready to eat in the morning. Things went well automatically. Rice was of a reasonable quality. Occasionally, the bottom of the pot is a bit hard, but not clued in. The pot is stainless steel, and I believe it is acceptable.

Yes, there is room for improvement. For instance, we need to measure the water and rice. To find the optimal level for brown rice, I need to test and trial twice. The rice cooker should be smart enough to be more flexible.

The rice cooker won't get a 5 or 1 star rating from me. It seems that neither of these comments reflect what the rice cooker really is. Neither is it a perfect rice cooker nor is it a piece of garbage. I'd rather give it a rating of 3 to 4. Based on the durability of the inner pot and its stable performance, I am happy to award it 4 stars.

decent price but poor quality product – The first impression of the packing and the manual is very poor, paid the decent price for the premier rice cooker and thought they will at least has a better look, but is not. The packing colour looks dull, the manual not even align properly (can see it on the top right hand conner) some pages of words are blurry (can't really see on photo) and… Read more

the icon in the page are looking funny.

But this is not my point,

I got the rice cooker today. Checked the inner pot properly and no scratch no mark. I gently washed the inner pot with soapy water before I used it. I tipped water into the inner pot to mark 10 and added 10 ml white vinegar. I used the porridge and soup function to boil it for an hour. After it done, I opened the lid, and saw there a stain shown in photo in dark ruby colour and there are few debris dropped on the surface of the water which came from the scratched point, after I use paper towel wiped it down, could see clear 2-3 scratch lines on the top of the pot. Lucky I just boiled plain water without food, the whole pot of the food will just turn to waste.

As the scratching position, everyone who has the rice cooker know there is where the inner lid rubber will go on to when the lid closed, even the rubber seal could possibly scratched the stainless steel pot ? The company claim the inner pot does not has any coating on the inner pot, now I really doubt it.

The lower s/steel lid is just a very thin metal is not flat as you can see in the video just after first used.

I should listen to my wife go for tiger rice cooker.

Totally not worth the money – I bought this primarily as a rice cooker because my mum told me it's a reliable brand. - it has stainless steel pot, so presumably less leeching of chemicals into rice/other things that you cook - it has induction cooking, supposedly means it will cook perfectly, better than non induction cookers. I have so far used it for more than a dozen… Read more

times to cook rice....Results?

1. Non fluffy rice. Either cooks it too hard, or cooks it too soft. No perfect rice. 2. No proper timer. The cooker doesn't have a clock. If it's 12pm now and you want it to be done at 5pm, you have to key in manually +5 hours into the cooker. You can't tell it you want it to be done at 5pm. It's troublesome. 3. To get better rice outcome, apparently you have to switch the rice cooker off for 20 mins before scooping the rice out. That's unacceptable in my opinion. Which busy family would want to go through that trouble? 4. After finishing cooking, if you leave the rice cooker on at keep warm function, the rice starts to stick to the bowl say around 30 mins into the keep warm function. It becomes wasteful (lots of rice gets stuck) and a pain to clean. Again, unacceptable.

I totally regret buying this rice cooker. I previously used a normal panasonic rice cooker, and it's sooo much better. Could/Should have bought 4 of that previous rice cooker instead!

Not worth the price tag – The unit seems built well and easy to clean but the instructions are lacking. A lot. It's all a bit of guess work trying to figure out how to cook with it especially if you want to cook more than just rice. The stainless steel bowl is the main reason we bought it but the first one was slightly damaged. We had a new one sent out no questions asked.… Read more

I would be a lot happier if the instructions were clearer for English speakers and a bit more informative.

Not durable – I bought this rice cooker on the 28 Nov 2018 because it has a stainless steel bowl which is a healthier option to a non stick coated bowl. It was working well until last month when the rice would not cook, the water in the rice got warm and that was it. It lasted 17 months, I checked the warranty and it was for 12 months only. It’s a shame that for an appliance that’s in the $350-400 range to only last 17 months and had to be replaced. Show details

Love it! Especially good for family with kids – Always recommend stainless stain rice cooker. No coating inside which come off easily. Healthier and especially good for family with kids. Easy to clean. Did a great job for all kinds of functions. I like to use it to cook congee which I never need to worry it over cooked and stick to the pot.  Show details

Amazing product and enjoying every single moment with it – I bought this smart cooker mainly because the the inner surface of the inner pot of my old rice cooker scratched. I was recommended to look for a stainless steel inner pot rice cooker and I came across the smart cooker. It has changed the way i use rice cooker (this is really multi-function not only cook rice). With the dishes that can be cooked… Read more

with it, is amazing. I made claypot chicken rice which I love, I find the texture from the final output is satisfying. I use it for cooking soup most of the time and the rice is so fluffy. Apart from this, the stainless steel inner pot has been great in maintenance and cleaning. Furthermore, I will not have to worry about scratches on the surface as the stainless steel material is durable. I am exploring other dishes now and with the cook book as well as cooking session organised by Buffalo Cookware have been an eye opener. I am loving every single moment with this smart cooker. Good job Buffalo and keep up the good work by introducing more recipe and method to cook good food.

Excellent product. Wife best helper! No regret! – We have 2 young kids (4yr and 1 yr). This smart cooker is a good helper for our family especially busy with kids and work. Quick, easy, convenient, the most important is making delicious food. It function more than a rice cooker. Chicken rice, stew pork, stir fried vege/meat, curry chicken, all kinds of soups, etc. Definitely recommended.  Show details

Stainless Steel Smart Cooker – Update: Less than two years on and I have decided to change multi cookers. I've decided to buy an Instant Pot. The buffalo cooker is high quality and does the job but as another reviewer has mentioned - it comes with next to no guidance on cooking directions or recipes. So far all I've made in it is rice, curry and soup. I tried to bake a cake… Read more

once according to the recipe on the website and it wasn't pretty. I also emailed the company complimenting them on their product and asking for more recipes as there is hardly any online... no one even bothered to respond to my email. If this product was geared more to the average aussie and came with more instructions on cooking, I would keep using it. As is.. it's totally non user friendly for me. I have no idea what to make in it or how. I expected more from its very high price point. A real shame because I like this cooker and it's very easy to keep clean with no smells. Original: So glad I stumbled onto this smart cooker. I have the 10 cup model. I didn't want to buy a normal rice cooker or smart cooker as they usually contain inner pots coated with teflon or other non stick ingredients. The Buffalo IH has a stainless steel inner pot. It is surprisingly easy to clean and quite non stick. The outside is also easy to clean. The function buttons are easy to use. There's some great functions including fast cook, soup, porridge and even bread! So far I've made a few soups and curries plus cooked a load of rice. Everything cooks wonderfully and there is no mess. It is relatively quiet. It comes with a steamer insert as well to cook vegetables etc, which is handy, as well as a rice spoon, scoop and ladle. I have been using my cooker for about a month now and have no complaints so far. Even the design and colour is aesthetically pleasing. The stainless steel outer shell doesn't even leave streak marks. Very happy.
