 AI reviews summary

The 5 Minute CleverChef is highly regarded by solo diners and elderly users for its speed and simplicity in preparing small meals like omelettes and toasties. While the overall sentiment is positive, there are significant recurring complaints regarding the long-term durability of the non-stick surface and missing digital recipe books.

Pros
Efficient Cooking: Delivers very fast results for small meals, with many users reporting perfectly cooked omelettes and sandwiches in under five minutes.
Ease of Maintenance: The compact design and removable plates make it simple to clean, often requiring just a quick wipe or rinse.
User-Friendly Design: Highly accessible for elderly users and those with limited kitchen space due to its lightweight build and straightforward operation.
Portability: Its small footprint makes it a popular choice for use in caravans or small apartments where storage is at a premium.
Cons
Non-Stick Degradation: A significant number of users report that food begins to stick severely after only a few uses, despite using oil or butter.
Missing Content: Numerous reviewers noted they did not receive the promised digital recipe book or found it difficult to download.
Limited Capacity: The cooking wells are smaller and shallower than expected, often only accommodating a single egg or very small portions without overflowing.
Build Quality Issues: Reports of technical failures include units stopping heating shortly after purchase, faulty indicator lights, and the lack of a dedicated power switch.
Verdict

The CleverChef is a convenient tool for individuals seeking quick, portion-controlled meals with minimal cleanup. However, potential buyers should be aware of reported issues with the non-stick coating longevity and the unit's very small capacity.

There are no limits to what you can make in this thing. Pies, omelettes, pizzas, brownies, cakes……sausages…. It’s so much fun. Everything turns out perfect. It never leaks, no matter how much I cram in there, the well around the edge catches any overflow and cooks it as well. At the moment I am enjoying an inch thick apple pancake. I flip it a… Read more ·  1

couple of times when cooking, it has feet on both sides to do just that. You can make great chocolate chip biscuits in it, the king size kind. I don’t know how long they last, I have only had it a month, but it has never left the countertop since I unboxed it.

Edit…. I thought I would add a hint or two….if you are making something with a dough that rises,a cookie, a cake, even bread, surprisingly, don’t latch it down, give it room to rise as much as it wants. I usually fill up the bottom half and it rises to fill the top, and even sometimes pushes the top up a bit. If you’re doing a bread dough fil it a little less as a yeast dough rises a bit more. It makes a lovely crusty roll thing though. However allow a little more cooking time for things that rise, like cakes. Do the toothpick test. My giant chocolate chip cookie takes about 7 to 8 minutes and is about an inch and a bit thick. Same with stuffed pancakes and waffles. Cake and baking mixes work very well. So do pancake mixes. Flipping the machine over once or twice speeds things up but is not mandatory.

These things make Beatiful omlettes, they are the best, however...they are so precious to clean. I have gone through my third one in as many months. They are poorly designed, everytime you wipe it down to clean it with a wet sponge, the water runs down the back and into the electrics and fries it. $180 ($60ea) and each one in the bin. I will not be buying another one of these till they sort this issue out. Show details

I followed the directions to a tee. To make an omelette I added a little butter after green light went out. Poured in the beaten egg ensuring below the top of the cooking well. I put the latch down and waited 4 minutes. When I opened the unit the top had raised and the egg had expanded to the top but still fully contained in the top and bottom… Read more

cooking wells. The omelette bulged at the sides and were brown. It looked nothing like the omelette in the TV ad. So what did it taste like? Rubber. I couldn't eat it. Rubbery because it probably needs air. I had a double sided omelette maker years ago that I used on the stove. It always produced great omelettes. But the difference is the two pans that closed together were very deep, at least 10 times deeper than the Clever Chef. So that's the problem. Also on TV they show cooking a steak. Steaks are never that small. It's a great idea but far to compact. The cooking wells need to be much bigger unless you like rubbery omelettes.

I bought the deluxe model with the grill and waffle plates. Very disappointed with this product as the green light which is supposed to go out after 5 mins or so when temperature reached does not. Have waited. ore than 30 mins and the green light… Read more

still does not go out. Wish I had never bought it as the grill plate just steams - I assume is because the green light stays on. Will never use again, or be sucked in by advertising like the videos I watched. An absolute waste of money in my opinion.

Follow-up  · I didnt use it again because the heating light didnt go out and so did not cook successfully

Excellent service and I am very happy with the CleverChef. I have cooked: cheese toasties; eggs a couple of times and fresh Salmon - does a great job with the cooking. Look forward to trying other things as well. Very easy to clean up with the plates popping out easily, wash under hot water, dry them and they are ready to pop back in again. … Read more ·  3

The machine itself is an easy wipe over when the cheese runs out! So far, we have enjoyed what I have cooked in the CleverChef.

I love my clever chef. I have made omelletes, fried eggs and toasted sandwiches and was amazed at the speed and more importantly the taste of the end product. I have yet to try the lava cake because I didn't know what "pop"was. - simply a soft drink as we call it in Australia. Show details ·  1

I bought one of these from Aus Post on 4th May and was in love with it initially, so used it each day for an easy dinner & lunch for myself. Unfortunately, with each use, food began to stick more & more, despite me spraying it with oil beforehand. I returned it & got a refund on 9th of May after reading similar reviews on here with others… Read more

struggling with the same issue. The woman at Aus Post was not happy & said they'd sold heaps with nobody else returning one, but I told her I wasn't the only one with this complaint & to check for herself online. Unfortunately I didn't think to take any photos of how bad the food was stuck - I had a real job of getting it clean to return it but maybe should have left it as was, as evidence? The recess for food & egg is also too shallow, as others have reported. I paid $60 for mine, which in hindsight was very expensive for such a cheaply made piece of junk. I've seen it going for $80 elsewhere too. Please, don't waste your money on one of these. I would have given it 0 stars if I could have.

I'm surprised Consumer Affairs allow this product to stay on the market. I make terrific omelettes usually but not in this Cleverchef. It's the worst omelette I've ever tried and consequently I didn't eat it. It doesn't have an on/off switch. You have to turn it on and off at the wall. It's very easy to burn yourself, which I did. There is… Read more

no timer on it nor is there a settings control. I could go on and on about what I don't like about Cleverchef but I really can't be bothered. As far as I'm concerned the whole thing is a bad joke .

Absolutely a waste of money. My omelette was so rubbery it was inedible. I can’t even make a cheese toasty because the top & bottom base are so narrow you cannot fit a single slice of bread in it. On the tv ad it shows a cooked steak. Unless you cut a raw steak in half there’s no way a steak will fit, nor a chicken breast. Why make the product so shallow, so narrow & short? Talk about false advertising. Show details

I want to do an update on my review. I’ve experienced with smaller pieces of salmon and chicken that fit and having success. What I didn’t mention last time was the problem with cleaning. The best thing I’ve discovered however is to wrap the meat in baking paper. Cleaning is now a breeze. I’m now using this item. Having said all that I still wish I’d not bought it.

The product was a great buy. I have made omelettes, wraps and toasted sandwiches so far. Looking forward to experimenting more. My disappointment was the attitude of Global Shops customer service team. I called to query when the product was going to be sent. I found the customer service person to be rude and not wanting to engage in my questions. Not sure if I would use Global Shops again due to the experience. Show details ·  1

Perfect size for me. I had gastric sleeve surgery and its the perfect portion size. Only one egg fits and a little bit of veggies. I put a spoon of protein powder to increase the protein and wallah! Show reply

Follow-up  · You definitely cant cook larger portions - you would be better off making two omelettes as it can overflow and be very messy. Its very very easy to clean just wipes off. I spray olive oil before i put my mixture in. Because my omelette puffs up it cooks evenly- i do put a scoop of egg white protein powder to boost the protein and it works a treat.

I bought the Clever Chef because I'm a single older person who doesn't eat big meals & I thought it'd be very handy but it's turned out to be the most useless appliance I've ever bought. First omelette I made looked so good when I opened the lid & I thought wow that's great. It had puffed right up & lifted it out & put it on a plate, got a piece… Read more

of toast from the toaster & went back my plate where the omelette had completely deflated like a balloon pricked with a pin. I really wish I'd taken some pics but didn't think of it at the time. It looked very unappetising & was rubbery to eat. Then I made some scrambled egg for the dog. It turned out fine but OMG how finicky to try to stir the eggs in that tiny little space. Why on earth didn't they make it bigger & deeper? Even for me I could easily eat 2 omelettes the size it makes but that means I cook one & eat it then go back & cook another one & that's not something I'd do.

Placed the order email stated 28 delivery, then 2 weeks later I called for a update and was told there is none in the country and could be another 2 months before it will be delivered, I asked how can an item be advertised when it’s not in stick, the customer service team member laughed, I asked for a full refund that took 4 days. This isn’t the first time this has happened. You can rest assure I will never buy anything from this company again. Show details

Great product, does exactly what it says it does. Perfect for a quick omelette and great for cheese toasty. My only comment would be the size, would be great if it was just a little bigger and square, but this is just a personal preference. Show details ·  1
