Chery Dealers

THE REVIEW I purchased a Chery Tiggo 4 Ultimate Hybrid earlier in 2026. After driving it home (approximately 16 km), I experienced a major issue the very next morning. While driving to the gym, after only 2 km, the vehicle completely lost power. The engine stopped, the hazard lights failed, the air conditioning shut down, and all doors locked except the driver’s door. This occurred around 8:30 am and was both alarming and concerning. I contacted RACQ, who arrived within an hour. The technician appeared hesitant to intervene and recommended arranging a tow truck instead. I then attempted to contact Chery Cairns multiple times. My calls went unanswered, and although I was prompted to leave messages with assurances of a callback, I received no response. Eventually, I contacted the sales department. After explaining the situation, I was provided with a number for a towing company. The tow truck arrived about an hour later. The driver was very helpful and considerate—he noticed that I am partly disabled and assisted me into the air-conditioned cab, which I greatly appreciated. After assessing the situation, he contacted technicians. Two attended and advised that the vehicle be towed to the Chery workshop. Another issue arose during loading. Due to the total loss of power, the brakes had locked. To avoid damaging the tyres, they had to use plastic sleeves and physically drag the vehicle onto the truck. When we arrived at Trinity Chery Cairns, we were initially told, in a very aggressive manner “you can’t bring that in here.” The tow truck driver responded that we would return in 10 minutes and asked staff to arrange a suitable space. Upon returning, no one was available to assist. The driver then backed the truck in himself, helped me into the air-conditioned office, and unloaded the vehicle. Chery provided me with a courtesy vehicle and retained my car for four working days. I was then advised that there was “nothing wrong” with the vehicle and it was returned to me. However, on my way home, the same warning lights began appearing again. Given the recurrence of the issue, I kept the vehicle at home over the Easter weekend and attempted to contact Chery by both phone and email. At approximately 6:32 pm one evening, I received a phone call which disconnected as soon as I answered. When I returned the call the following morning, I spoke with the service manager. He again stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle but said they would take it in for further testing. I questioned what additional testing would be done, given they had already had the vehicle for four days. When I asked when the vehicle could be booked in, I was told they did not know, nor could they advise how long it would be off the road. I also requested a courtesy vehicle during this time, which was refused. I found this manager to be arrogant and very aggressive and totally unresponsive to my problem. Over this period of time I contacted every department of Chery Cairns including the Trinity owner and Chery China—still waiting for a response. At that point, I advised that I would consider escalating the matter to Fair Trading. Given that this is a brand-new vehicle that failed within 24 hours of purchase, I find this situation extremely disappointing. The complete loss of power raises serious concerns about both safety and reliability. Equally concerning is the lack of communication, urgency, and customer support throughout this experience. As a customer, I would expect a far higher level of service and accountability when dealing with such a significant fault in a new vehicle.
Do not trust the business! In August 2025 we bought a brand-new 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ from Chery Doncaster, paying the full outright (no finance). It was sold to us as a "demo" with just 600km. What followed has completely destroyed our trust in both the car and this dealer. It started with the sale itself. We specifically asked the salesperson whether the initial break-in service (due around 1,000km) had been done. We were assured that yes, despite the low mileage, "everything had been taken care of." We took them at their word. Only later did we discover there is no record of any such service anywhere in the service book - and now, with the 15,000km service already stamped in, it is impossible to prove it was ever done. In other words, we were told one thing at the point of sale and have nothing to show for it. That alone makes us question what we were actually sold.
From day one there were problems. Wireless Apple CarPlay wouldn't connect - even the salesperson couldn't fix it without rebooting the system several times. Over the following months the faults piled up: constant CarPlay dropouts, the entire multimedia system freezing (twice the navigation froze mid-drive and we ended up off-route before noticing), a reversing camera that no longer lined up with reality, doors that needed 3–4 hard slams to close, a protruding driver's-door handle, rattles in the front door, and - most alarming - ENGINE FAULT, SUSPENSION ISSUE, a loud metallic grinding noise from under the car when reversing, loud enough that pedestrians turned around thinking we'd crashed, with the car braking on its own at the same time.
In February 2026, at ~14,000km, a flashing check-engine light appeared on a cold start, with severe steering-wheel vibration and a visibly shaking engine - frightening to drive. We brought the car in straight away to service only to be told that nothing had been found and the vehicle was "completely fine." The very next morning the check-engine light came on again - this time permanently. The car then sat in service FOR 58 DAYS - a vehicle less than a year old - with not a single call, text or update unless we chased them. When we finally got it back, several faults were still unresolved (the metallic reversing noise returned within a day, a new clicking noise appeared from the front end, the multimedia still misbehaved).
For over 2 months, despite repeated contact, the Sales Manager avoided responsibility and gave us misleading information, after which Chery Doncaster simply went silent. We had to chase Chery Motors ourselves just to get any response, while the dealer avoided their obligations under consumer guarantees and warranties.
We no longer feel safe driving this car - sudden braking is not something we can trust on the road. We bought it from Chery Doncaster, in good faith, paid in full, and were given assurances at the point of sale that we now cannot verify. When things went wrong, they washed their hands of us. Buy here at your own risk.
