No replacement filters – If your reading this seriously avoid Cli Mate air purifiers, I bought one and have chased the company, Breville, that's who owns it, for replacement filters and have hit brick walls,. Buy a Heller or something else, I'm disgusted with Breville, the owners of the Cli Mate brand. Show details

Good with limitations – I purchased a Climate AP30 Air Purifier 14 months ago for my wife's room as she is a chronic asthmatic. It seems to work very well and her breathing has certainly become better since buying it. In the current time of high smoke levels due to the terrible bushfires it has sure done the job. The unit appears to be well made and it is easy to… Read more

remove the filters for cleaning or changing. The fan is quiet except when it is in auto mode and it senses poor quality air and the fan goes to full speed, this does not usually last long. There is a sleep mode that keeps the fan at low speed no matter what the air quality is.

The first one I bought became very noisy after about eight months and it was replaced under warranty by The Good Guys on instruction from Breville, the distributors, after it was checked by a local appliance technician.

My main concern is that the operation handbook states that the filters should be replaced every 2000 hours or 8 months. This is based on running the AP30 8 hours a day, we need to run the AP30 24/7 so the recommended filter change comes down to every 83 days, in other words 4 times per year. At nearly $100 for a set of filters this is a very expensive air purifier to run.

Couldn't be happier – I bought this unit based upon what I read here. It's easy to operate, quite enough for night use and does what it's supposed to. The unit comes with a small remote which has a 'Button' battery, so that may be worth knowing for anyone with small children. Show details

Excellent at Filtering but Replacement Filters $$$ – It really helps keep pollen out (we no longer get hayfever inside on high pollen count days) and gets rid of smells inside quickly (which is very handy with a toilet-training toddler). Only downside is how expensive the replacement filters are - $99 a set - but it does work extremely well. So we do recommend it, but only if you are a… Read more

Expensive filters – I find the cli-mate AP30 good, but the replacement filters are an exorbitant price. If you buy 3 lots of filters at $99 each, you might as well buy another unit at around the same price, or buy a different unit with more reasonable filter pricing. The mark up on the filter replacements is far to high.  Show details

Wish we'd bought it years ago – Bought this on a particularly smoky day (bushfires and back burning), my fiancee has bad asthma and was genuinely worried about ending up in hospital. Ran out and bought one, brought it home, ten minutes sitting near it on full blast in a fairly large lounge room and she was breathing easily. I was shocked how well it worked, it was much better… Read more

than we'd expected. We've since bought a smaller unit for the bedroom.

Why 4 not 5 stars? It is pretty noisy and filters are expensive to replace. I am also rating this a little higher because it's relatively cheap; there are units that can filter smaller particles but they cost a lot more.

Reliefe – I used to find it so hard to sleep as I have really bad asthma. My husband has a cat and it mad things worse. I was he'll bent on kicking the cat out of the room, but then he came home with the air purifier as a solution.... Needless to say the cat is still in the room and so am I  Show details

Average quality, high maintenance & loud – This unit does a good job at dust and particles that are visible as well as some of the smaller irritants we inhale. But remember, a grade 12 Hepa is only going to block 0.3 microns and higher, when most viruses and germs are smaller than that. Also, 90% of the particle nasties are under 0.3 . I was in a desperate need to get something to help… Read more

with the incredibly dusty room, and that's all they had in stock. Philips, BlueAir, IQ air and many others, have much better filters that do below 0.3 micron. They are also more expensive, in some cases, much more. So you pay for what you get.

The unit looks very sleek and the handles make it a cinch to carry around (other manufacturers take note).

The auto sensor also works well.

However, I am overall unsatisfied to be honest. I have owned purifiers for 20 years, and the cli-mate has the worst maintenance of the lot, as well as the weakest lifespan on it's filters! This was a real surprise and something I wouldn't even think of asking before purchase, as i expected it to be similar to others. They want you to WASH the pre filters and let them dry every week or two weeks.. This is a huge pain. The Hepa is only good for 2000 hours. WOW that is low and by far the worst specs of any $300+ purifier on the market.

2000 hrs at 24/7 operation is just under 3 months!

And therein lies the second issue.. the filters are grossly overpriced.. $100 for the set of hepa replacement filters (which i will admit are very cleverly a cinch to install) - which means to run this purifier 24/7 you would need $400 per year just in replacement filters. Suddenly, the more expensive units that do a much better job, simply because they are higher quality, are not much more expensive after all (except the IQ air). In fact the blue air 450E at $500 more purchase price, would have been a much much better long term investment. What a mistake I have made. Right now, the Philips 1000 which is the same price, does 60m2 rather than 30m2, and can filter to 0.02 microns. I should have been patient till that was back in stock.

Those cli-mate filter prices are absolutely obnoxious and I honestly wish I could return the machine. Of course if they were yearly filters like other purifiers, $100 would be perfectly normal. It's the fact that they are only rated for 2000 hours.

The next issue : noise. There are four speeds, i will call them ultra low, low, medium and high. Medium and high are just unbearable. I actually wondered if i had a faulty unit, but apparently it's not. The fan is rough sounding and LOUD.. In fact, without exaggeration here, i am scared to be in the same room with it in the highest mode for fear of damaging my ears! This is industrial level noise in my opinion. Even the medium is unbearable to be in the same room with for more than a few minutes due to the lack of smoothness in the noise. My winix purifier on the very highest turbo mode, for example, is also loud but super smooth.. which makes all the difference. Whenever the cli-mate detects particles, it goes into the very highest turbo mode.. so forget putting it in auto mode during sleep. The only thing I can recommend is to have it on turbo mode all day in the bedroom with the door closed, then put it into sleep mode when going to bed.

Overall, I absolutely do not recommend this product, as despite the few appealing features (modern looks, handles, easy filter replacement, responsive dust sensor), it is just not worth the maintenance hassle or cost. There is no way I am going to be washing pre filters every week and then having my unit out of action while they dry, so i'm going to try locate a similar pre filter in bulk that i can cut to size myself and just change it every 2 weeks.

Another idea I have, is to buy some activated carbon infused pre filter sheets and use those instead, which will improve the odour reduction capabilities, which are very average out of the box. You only get a tinsy bit of carbon in each hepa/carbon filter combo, so the extra layer would certainly make a difference, as some odours would be trapped in the pre filter. I'll just buy some sheets and have about 20 pre cut and ready to install at a time, and take it from there (the pre filter simply sticks to the hepa via what seems to be velcro on the hepa).

I can't in good conscience recommend anyone to spend hard earned money on this machine.

Product doesn't work well – I've had my cli-mate 30 for 4 days i don't recommend it. It blows air up to hard then it can't suck the air in because it blows way too hard I've had it on since i brought it and my lungs hurt really bad in the morning it mainly just blows air around your room it's good for air circulation but that about it all it's doing is the same as a fan it… Read more

Works well but filters are expensive – I’ve had my Cli-Mate AP30 unit for around 3 months & I've been impressed by how in Auto mode it senses any increase in dust & chemicals in the air & the fan automatically speeds up until the air is clean. It can be annoying however listening to the fan repeatedly speed up & slow down as it reacts to changes in the amount of dust & chemicals it… Read more

senses.

One of the reasons I chose it over other air purifiers is that it’s very quiet when set to auto mode. One minor irritation is the blue operating lights being quite strong at night & lighting up the room.

I have the unit located outside my cat's enclosed litter tray & when my cat does his business & stirs up the litter the fan in the Cli-Mate AP30 speeds up on sensing the litter dust coming from the enclosure. It also senses chemicals in the air e.g. spray on deodorant, after shave lotion, smoke & the fan speeds up until the air is clean again.

My main complaint is that the filters are expensive costing $99. It’s recommended that the filters are replaced every 8 months or 1500 hours of operation. Running the unit 24 hours per day the warning light indicating that the filters need changing started flashing after less than 3 months continuous use.

If I changed the filters every 1500 hours while running the unit 24 hours a day it would cost me at least $400 per year for filters making it prohibitively expensive to run. I’m going to ignore the flashing warning light & continue to use the filters for up to a year because I mainly bought the unit to remove dust from the air & the filters still do this as long as you clean them regularly.

Cleaning the removable washable pre-filter sheets can be problematical because they are fairly flimsy. Godfreys sell a universal pre-filter kit costing $10 which consists of basically the same filter material & you can cut replacement pre-filters to use in place of the original ones.

I’m happy with the way the Cli-Mate AP30 performs with my only gripe being the cost of the filters & how often they need replacing. You can only purchase the filters from the company that manufactures the unit & I’m betting the company makes a lot more money from selling the filters than the unit itself!

It functions as advertised and is priced well compared to others of equal specification – I purchased the CLI-AP30 for the wife who has allergies so I thought, with a little bit of scepticism, to give it a go. It's been used in the bedroom over the last two months and I notice no dust which you usually see in the sunbeams, and the wife says she is sleeping better with no more episodes of tightness in the chest or breathing… Read more

difficulties. I hand wash the coarse filters under water fortnightly and there’s dust present where it’s drawing in air, so I know that it has to be working.

The only cons so far are:

- for me the lights are bright and stay on even when set to sleep mode, so I’ve taped some card over them

- every once in a while in auto mode it stays stuck on dirty air, which is fixed by just turning it off then on again

The air purifier has four separate identical filters arrayed around the intakes and they cost about $90-100 to replace all four. I think they should last a year but I guess I’ll see in the future. As of now I would happily recommend this air purifier as it has a two year warranty, seems to work and is very competitively priced compared to some of the other name brand units on the market.

Clean air and great features – I have had a Sharp air purifier before that works well but have found the spare parts very very difficult to purchase and they are expensive. Sharp.

Since purchase I have been really thrilled with the performance. The ioniser definitely works and on my floorboards around the machine I can see a built-up of the dust particles, this never happened with the Sharp which also had an loniser. I have found the timer function useful. The automatic speed/air purifier setting is very good, the machine judges how polluted the air is and the more polluted the air the faster than fan works. This feature is great for larger living areas, I would suggest it would be annoying in a bedroom and could lead to waking up due to the noise. It does have a night-time function which over-rides the automatic setting.

Funny side...I did notice that it sensed a lot of polluted air after spraying on deodorant but since changing deodorant this has stopped.....so obviously there must have been some scents etc in the deodorant that was not allergy friendly and Cli-Mate was working hard to purify the air.

I definitely breathe better, sleep better and feel better with it on.

I feel it suits a larger room. It is currently summer with hot weather and I have the windows open, I find due to the capacity of the machine, it keeps up with the air purifying demand without having to select a high fan speed all the time or a build of polluted air that it struggles to reduce.

Best sleep – I suffer from hay fever and since purchasing the Climate CLI-AP30 I've had much better sleep and wake breathing better and no congestion. Very quiet running at night with a timer and auto mode, which has reduced the dust and allergies coming into our bedroom, making easier to sleep and waking more invigorated. Very quiet and clean refreshing air
