Close Comfort PC9+ Questions & Answers
VerifiedHi Guys I go the Coolzy-Go Portable Air Conditioner (without the remote) My question is, how do I control the Temp and fan speed without the remote
Hi Lindsay, the Coolzy-Go doesn't have the ability to toggle the temp or fan speed. Once you turn the unit on it goes (hence we called it the Coolzy-Go). :)
I have a Close Comfort PC9 and have misplaced the remote can I use a universal remote or get a replacement?
Thanks for the question. Yes, we sell spare remotes a and they are universal :) Here's a link: external link
Ive had my close comfort for the last 8 hours and ive had it standing up the right way for that amount of time is 8 hours anoth time or must i wait 12 hours before turning on ??
No its not on the the manual it says leave for 12 hours before turning on just wanted to see if i could turn in on abit earlier
Hi Byron, you can turn the product on if you've left it standing for 12hrs. That's more than enough time for the gas to settle in the bottom of the compressor :) Once the unit is turned on, leave it to run for about 90 seconds and it should begin producing cool air for you. Hope that helps :)

What type of filter does it have, thanks
Hello and thank you for your query. Our units have 3 filters that need to be cleaned regularly depending on how often you use it and how dusty it may get. You can do this less often once you have experience of using your air conditioner and you can judge how often you may need to clean the filters. Running water and using a mild soap, is all it takes to clean the filters. Please click on this link to see a short video on, 'How do I clean the filters?' under General Enquires. external link
What filter does it run in it, thanks
Hello and thank you for your query. Our units come with filters already installed in the unit. With regular maintenance the filters should be long lasting. Should you, for any reason, need spare filters for your unit, the filters are available for purchase from Close Comfort. Simply ring us on 13000226658 within Australia or ring us on +6531381772 from Singapore to speak to our customer service team member for assistance. I hope this information is helpful.
Hi will the close comfort cool down a whole caravan? (Jayco swan) similar to the igloo? Thanks
We have so many customers who buy our units for their caravans, RVs and campers. As they are personal air conditioners, the focus is on cooling you within a room rather than trying to cool the entire room, which most portable air conditioners fail to do anyway. They're particularly great to have positioned near your bed for sleeping or near you when eating or sitting watching TV, in the kitchen, or even take it outside in the awning. We also have some Jayco and Caravan/RV/Camping stores around the country that are actively selling our units to customers.
if my room temp is around 36 or 38 and some times is about 40 C. how much close comfort reduce temp and how much it take time to decrease temp?
Thanks for your question Kamran. The cooling impact is immediate as the air conditioning is refrigerated and directed at you. Our units are designed for personal air conditioning rather than trying to cool the entire room. They work particularly well in humid conditions (not sure where you're based) and can be used easily with fresh air in the room so feel free to open a window or door from time to time.
With our COOL FOCUS units the remote control can adjust the temperature down to 17° with speed options between low, medium or high - as well as switching between refrigerated air or fan functionality. Our EASY FOCUS units have no remote control and single settings are pre-set at 17° and medium speed.
Hi
I have 2 units. The water container... what is the purpose? Do I need to put water in there?
AFC, our units are not evaporative so require no water or ice to operate. The back tray is really only needed to collect excess water in humid conditions (our units are also sold across South East Asia). However, we've found in testing that this really only occurs in extremely humid conditions, which is rare in Australia. The rest of the time it can simply be used as a handy cord tidy drawer.
Hi I have a question I live near an open drain which causes corrosion of split ac coils in a season or two and we need repairing and gas refilling every year. How does close comfort perform in such areas. Is it a better option?
I recently purchased this product (March 2020). I live in Darwin, NT, where night time temperatures are rarely less than 22-26oC, often up to 30oC. I bought it for my bedroom because my installed air con system in the bedroom works poorly. Unfortunately this product was a total waste of my money ($AUD800+). It generates more hot air into the room than cool air. It really just blows a very narrow stream of cool air, but the hot air expelled at the back of the machine made the bedroom unbearable to sleep in. Please, save your money. The product is a fraud. Maybe okay for one person on a hot evening OUTSIDE, but totally useless for indoors. Hope this response is helpful.

I Live in a humid area where the humidity can go up to 73%. Would the cooler be efficient in my home?
Hi Eshal, yes our units work very well in humid conditions. We also operate in countries like Singapore and Indonesia, where humidity is a daily constant. In fact, the inventor and founder of Close Comfort originally came up with the idea for the unit while struggling through 41C temperatures at night in Pakistan.
If the temperature inside your bedroom regularly exceeds 28C at night, our Igloo bed tent provides extra cooling to keep you comfortable, and also provides chemical-free mosquito protection. The Igloo tent also reduces the air conditioner power consumption to about 180 Watts on average, a valuable saving for off-grid battery installations, plus can further reduce the apparent temperature down to just 12C. The Igloo bed tent can also provide an ideal place for a baby or small child to be cool and comfortable during the day time.
Noted. Thank you!
How much warranty does it have ?
Hi Punditji,
Our products comes with a 2 year warranty.
Just wondering how this unit would work in a free camping set up with a caravan with two lithium 100 amp batteries and a 300 watt inverter?
Hey Chris, thanks for your question. We ran it past our R&D Engineers and here's their feedback. Assume 95% discharge rate for lithium battery, 90% inverter efficiency, 12V system so two batteries connected in serial. This gives: (100amp x 2 x 95% x 90% )/25amp = 6.84 hours running time in an ideal scenario.
Considering the power consumption of the inverter itself, as well as other lights and appliances running at the same time, the actual running time will be shortened accordingly.
About the Inverter: A 300W rated inverter will almost certainly not be able to start the compressor in our AC unit. Our product requires a peak power of about 1800W, although this happens at the start of the compressor and only last for less than a second. After the compressor is started, the constant power consumption averages around 300W, which still requires a minimum 500W rated inverter to prevent overheating.
We suggest you use a 1000W - 1500W rated inverter, or any inverter has a labelled peak power supply of 1800W or above.
If using in an open space, a windy environment can disrupt the throw of the cool air. Place the unit in a shaded area protecting it from rain and strong sunlight. Our units would be best used in combination with your own camping tent (or our own specially designed Igloo bed tent at home or in chalets etc.)
Try to arrange the unit so that the back of the unit is positioned outside the tent where it has access to the outside environment and only the cool air is retained inside the tent or around the bedding area of a van.
Further detailed information on how our units work successfully with a range of off-grid power solutions can be found on our site here: external link
Hope this helps.
Thanks for your response - sorry, the inverter is 3000 watt. How would this go Thanks
Then you should be fine, factoring in the conditions stated above. The main thing being that you easily have the capacity needed to start the unit (1800W) which then drops down to just 300W once going.

Hi, would this unit work in a caravan with a 12vlt system running through a 1100 wt inverter that currently powers a small fridge, lap top, lights etc?
Hi Adrian, Any inverter with a peak performance of more than 1800W should work. If 1100W is the rated capacity of your inverter, usually the peak capacity is 1800W - 2200W, which makes it OK to use with our units.
The power consumption of the Close Comfort Unit is 300W, so a 1100W inverter should have enough capacity to run it with a fridge, laptop and lights. However if the compressor inside the fridge and Close Comfort unit started at the same time, it is possible to exceed the peak capacity of the inverter and everything could stop. The chance is small, so try not to start everything at the same time.

Thanks James
How big is the close comfort
About the same size as a small bar fridge. Maximum extended size with front and rear flaps open is 71cm high (rear) and 73cm high (front) x 46cm wide x 27.5cm deep.
What is the method of generating cool air ? Could you kindly go into a bit of detail please?
Close Comfort is like a tiny fridge with a fan inside that blows cooled air at one or two people close together. A small amount of heat is transferred to warmer air which rises to the ceiling, just like it does from the back of your kitchen fridge. The operating principles are similar to normal air conditioners, except that everything is miniaturized, with the cool air focused in a special way to intensify the cooling experience.
Could you use the unit in a small motor home ie is venting the hot air an issue.
Hi Steven, You can definitely use our units in small motor homes! The unit uses so little energy that the air coming out will rise to the ceiling and lose its warmth without affecting the room temperature. Open windows will help with fresh air circulation, however this is not a requirement for the unit to operate effectively. I hope this answers your question, and head on over to our website (www.closecomfort.com) for more info on our products :)
Is this unit for sale in New Zealand?
Unable to advise. You should visit Close Comfort website and ask.
Hi Rowe, We currently do not have our units for sale in New Zealand, however if you are interested in purchasing one and would like to go through some options, please send us an email at contact@closecomfort.com and we will be happy to find a solution!
Where do you put here this item.
I have mine at the end of my bed, with the cold vent blowing over my body, and the hot air venting out the bedroom door to the rest of the house
I use it in the living area and at night put it near the bed. Perfect. I can leave the windows and doors open in the living room as well, air circulates and doesnt affect the operation of this great cooling conditioner.
Hi, how cool can it gets? What is it lowest temp.?
Quite cold. Just as cold as if you were sitting right in front of a normal air conditioner.
To further clarify on WillD's answer. The unit on its default setting will reduce the temperature in your micro-climate (the 2-4m around you) by approximately ten degrees or down to 17C which ever it reaches first. There is a remote control shipped with the unit if you wish to increase the minimum temperature.
Hi, considering this unit for our caravan instead of an under bed built in unit. We are in Qld so humid and hot in summer. We have a very large roof hatch, instead of leaving window open, would it work efficiently if we left the roof hatch open to vent out the hot air? Also, for travelling, can it be stored laying on it's side under the bed when not needed?
Yes, using it right underneath the roof hatch would certainly help vent the hot air - good idea. You could also use it outside (with an extension cable) in the evening, making it far more versatile than a built-in unit. Not sure about laying it on its side - suggest you contact the manufacturer.
Hi Linda, Thank you for contacting Close Comfort! Yes, it will actually work better leaving the roof hatch open than opening the window. Due to the density difference between warm and cool air, the warm air will naturally rise to the roof area while the cool air should form a comfort zone on top of the bed just enough for a night of good sleep - this is the key concept of Close Comfort Personal Air Conditioner. Our Igloo Bed Tent production can significantly increase the cooling effect when used in combination with our AC unit.
Just like all other air conditioners and portable fridges, the unit has to be in an upright position during transportation and operation. Theoretically, laying on the side during travelling can damage the refrigeration system, however, we have not yet had any record of damage due to this reason. We suggest you to store and operate the unit in an upright position. If the unit accidentally falls on its side, which does happen due to unpredictable reasons, please keep the unit in an upright position for at least two hours before the operation.
