Value for Money
1.9

 AI reviews summary

Overall sentiment towards Coles is significantly negative, primarily driven by systemic failures in the online delivery service and perceived poor value for money. While isolated instances of friendly in-store staff and specific product lines receive praise, these are overshadowed by recurring reports of missing items, delivery to incorrect addresses, and a customer service process described as dismissive or unreachable.

Pros
Specific Staff Excellence: Individual team members in certain locations (e.g., Castle Towers, Mt Gravatt, Eden Rise) are praised for being exceptionally helpful, bubbly, and providing genuine service.
Product Highlights: The "Coles Kitchen" ready-meal range and specific bakery items like sourdough bread receive positive feedback for taste and convenience.
Value Home Brands: Some consumers appreciate the "Simply Coles" and home-brand ranges for providing affordable alternatives to big-name brands during the cost-of-living crisis.
Delivery Driver Conduct: When deliveries do arrive, the actual truck drivers are frequently described as cheerful, polite, and willing to assist with heavy bags.
Cons
Online Fulfilment Failures: A high frequency of orders arrive with significant portions of items missing, incorrect substitutions, or are cancelled without notice minutes before the delivery window.
Poor Produce Quality: Numerous reports indicate that fresh fruit, vegetables, and meat delivered via online orders are frequently bruised, wilted, or dangerously close to (or past) their expiry dates.
Inaccessible Customer Support: Users report extreme difficulty reaching human agents, citing long wait times, unhelpful AI chatbots, and "Customer Care" teams that fail to follow up on promised refunds.
Financial Discrepancies: Significant frustration exists regarding "pending" charges that lock up funds, delayed refunds for missing items, and pricing discrepancies between shelf labels and registers.
Verdict

Coles is currently failing to meet consumer expectations for reliability and service, particularly within its digital and delivery ecosystems. While in-store shopping remains a viable option for those seeking specific home-brand values, the online service is currently too inconsistent to be recommended for essential or time-sensitive grocery needs.

1 Manly Remedial &.  · I have specified the time and they still come outside the window which cause me so much trouble to reschedule and get temporary items in the meantimez
2 Usha Naidoo  · Third time ordering from Cole’s online and keep getting missing items. Really disappointing as I don’t get the full refund Will not recommend
1 Rimz  · Ordered freshly made custard tarts 6 pack they arrived frozen disgusting Ive reported this on uber
1 Allan  · Unrelated substitutions and nothing they can do. Rude support staff on the phone. Use Aldi or Wollies instead.
1 Not good  · Fail to deliver home delivery am , they canceled my delivery in the afternoon
1 James J.  · Do not sign up for Coles delivery. They never have time slots available even when its the middle of the day. Waste of your money. Go with Woolies delivery.

Recently, we have experienced issues with missing items in our last three online orders from Coles Park Centre in Victoria Park, WA. I would like to propose that Coles implement a double-check system, where one staff member collects the items and another verifies them before they are prepared for collection. This approach would enhance customer… Read more

In June 2026 I bought Coles made easy slow cooked lamb shanks. The box said: 'In aromatic red wine sauce...selected for quality...perfectly created and ready to enjoy...serve and enjoy!' I didn't want c to give it any stars - I added one because it's a required field! The package picture looked great. But that's as far as it went. The product… Read more

did not smell good. The sauce, if that is what you call it, was watery and thin. I added my own flour slurry and heated it on the stove top just to create a decent sauce!! It was very disappointing, so much so that I will not - cannot - eat the rest of it despite my dislike for wasting food.

I will not buy this product again!!! A while ago I bought a slowcooked lamb shank in red wine sauce from IGA Prospect, and it was much better!!!

My Manager ordered me some flowers to be delivered to my workplace today for my birthday ( uber eats delivery) The flowers looked somewhat tired & you could tell they were days old.... however when I got them home & unwrapped them they were even worse... absolutely disgusting! flopping over at the top and some of the leaves had dark black spots on them. These were hidden under the carefully placed wrapping. I called customer service and I could give them the order name and where they were delivered to, but as they were a gift I don't have the order number, so they don't want to know about it. Shame on you Cole's.

I gave Coles Online another chance because of a $20 voucher, despite having a disappointing experience previously. Unfortunately, it reminded me why I stopped using the service. One example was the bok choy I received. If I were shopping in-store, I would place fresh produce in a bag for hygiene and protection. Instead, it arrived unwrapped,… Read more

dirty, and covered in soil (see photo). It certainly wasn’t presented in a condition I would have chosen myself.

To make matters worse, I ordered chicken as part of my weekly groceries. The payment was deducted at checkout, only for me to receive an email later saying the item was out of stock. This means waiting several days for a refund on money that should never have been charged in the first place.

I was also automatically charged $2 for bags. My order arrived with only three bags, which at $0.25 each should have cost $0.75. I cannot understand how the charge reached $2.

Between the poor produce presentation, charging for unavailable items, delayed refunds, and questionable bag fees, I cannot recommend Coles Online. I’ll be returning to shopping in-store where I can personally select the quality of the products I’m paying for.

Don't buy any electrical item from Coles – I bought Thomson 12L AirFryer from Coles and after 3 months here we are. Nothing works other than digital displays and lights. Coles own "Made Easy" brand beef stroganoff. 500g. What a sad excuse for a meal. What was in a plastic bag was little more than a can of braised steak and onions. me the dodo mobile prepaid sim cards which i bought from his store was useless and not working,

As I needed the refund urgently for my mobile data which is running low atm.

DoDo misleading terms n conditions !!! 1. NO LOCK IN CONTRACT, yet needs bank cc card to activate sim card

2. 4 hours to activate time, but after 3 days, the prepaid sim card still NOT activated

3. 9.6.2026 I was shocked to receive text msg on my mobile that they are sending me another “NEW Sim card”, instead of activate the serial number of the prepaid sim card which i bought from coles, somehow they altered my prepaid sim card activation to post paid plan !!!!!!

4. DODO deducted $1 from my ANZ cc card I have to cancel my cc card to STOP them charging without my consent

5. I found DODO’s useless, deceptive product services with misleading terms n conditions.

****** 1st time I bought dodo prepaid sim card, I didn’t know it just didn’t work n All the terms n conditions were to force me to give them my cc card details,

despite of this is a NO LOCK in contract n the prepaid card i bought was $33 (on discount n I paid $10 each) X 3!!!! n they got my cc details n they could deduct any time, apparently i need to give them at least 7 days notice to cancel the mobile service on day 21st of 28 days period. then lose all the data n service. …

[Name Removed] the store mgr was VERY, VERY NASTY ! he wasn’t interested in hearing what i have to say, despite of i handed him a stack of documents n evidence n the prepaid sim card packs n receipts. He never apologised for any inconvenience caused, time wasted n the anxiety that I have!

He certainly owed me a duty of care, but he negligently, angrily walked away from the refund counter, despite of I left ALL the documents, 3 prepaid DODO sim cards paid n receipt n ALL my personal contact details on the refund counter, he utterly refused to offer me any help!!! Claimed that he will throw them away like rubbish.

For this wicked behaviour as a store manager to lead “Coles Spencer St, Melbourne” Store , I am asking the Coles Group CEO to sack him, demote n transfer him out of this store, as he is UNFIT to be the store manager n couldn’t provide a minimum customer service to help customer like me who urgently need his help to step in.

A store mgr who is supposed to lead with care, sympathy, friendly n helpful to his customers, especially I was their regular customer, ALL his store team members were friendly n helpful to me EXCEPT him when I needed help!!!! . This is NOT acceptable ! I believe they deserved a better, well mannered Store Manager to lead the store, put a smile on their faces n not treating them like self serving machines to slot monies for his KPIs performance !!!!

NOW, he owed me my $30 refund for X3 DODO prepaid mobile sim cards packs.

see attachments !!

——— Another complaint was for the Coles Customer Care, Ref:[Name Removed]-1800061562-11:27am

1. incompetent 2. she claimed there were no other co workers or managers that i could speak to assist me for the refund!!!! despite of i told her that i urgently need the money to purchase another mobile provider sim card!!! 3. I asked for her email address or email me, so that i could forward her ALL the evidence!!! she refused!!! 4. despite of i have provided her my personal contact, legal name, mobile numbers, email address, etc 5. she couldn’t understand the problems i described to her, even i gave her the serial number of dodo sim card i used. 6 I asked for ref no for the call, she said there is NONE !!!!

I would like to ask Coles, how could you deny the refund when the service or product sold through your store was deceptive, useless with misleading terms n conditions?!!!

Im waiting for Coles Group to investigate n resolve the matters ASAP !

for the uber driver to pick it up. I have fresh chicken in that order. The one that's been waiting for 4-5 hours to be picked up. The Coles guy on the end of the phone didn't give even an apology, let alone any sort of 'customer service'. It is abysmal. My neighbours tell me they no longer use Coles Rapid Delivery - that it's quicker to lock in one of their standard delivery slots. The neighbour on the other side of my house tells me they no longer use Coles and have gone over to Woolworths. Think I will be following them. a few years ago when there was a crisis in terms of cost-of-living expenses. They developed an excellent wide range of home-brand foods which are much cheaper and better than the big brands! Find them often on the lower shelves or simply labelled ‘Coles’. Generally, they have less sugar content than the known brands, eg love their breakfast Cornflakes, Wheat Biscuits, plus Condensed Cream of Chicken Soup, Pineapple in Juice, Tuna, Pasta; just a few regular buys. Lately, their ‘Yellow Label Simply Coles’ products are excellent value too: pasta sauce, cheese, washing powder, cling wrap, foil. The savings are very significant. I’m sorry they have been caught in the business of promoting discount prices which are not actually discounted. I’m not a fan of buy 2 for a perceived discount, eg Tim Tams 2 for $7. I have a designated amount that I spend on food and household per week. It’s just in my nature from my upbringing to do that. Whereas I might buy one packet of Tim Tams, I will not purchase two as it puts a hole in my weekly budget for a non-essential. I believe it’s tough on lower-income families, when they have to buy two to achieve a fair discount. Coles, think of your family heritage and serve your customers well, especially those who are struggling. You remain my favourite supermarket.

Follow-up  · Coles supermarket responded very promptly and favourably to my issue of having to purchase two same products to achieve a discount, instead of one product at a discounted price. I wrote about this since it's tough on families with a fixed weekly budget to buy two. I gave an example of Tim Tams, a great treat for all the family. Since I wrote,… Read more

unavailable items.

The store employee altered the "6" (number of items) to read "4" and gave me back the raincheck.

I was happy with being given the ability to buy the remaining items later and asked for the date on the raincheck to be altered to give me a further 30 days to buy the unavailable items.

Coles refused to extend the date so now I have a raincheck that expires at the end of today and is therefore useless after that.

This kind of abysmal customer service from an organization that benefits from my spending thousands of dollars each year does not engender goodwill.

In the past, Woolworths in a similar situation, has happily given me a new raincheck valid for a further 30 days for me to purchase the unavailable, remaining items.

Follow-up  · No reason was given. I contacted Coles Head Office and was told: As soon as a raincheck is used if there are not enough items on the shelf (and you do buy the fewer items) a replacement raincheck for the "missing items" to purchase later will not be issued. However if you decide not to purchase any items at all on that day of raincheck expiry,… Read more

go back and get something can be a mission.

So by the time I get to the checkout,, on a good day,,, its a relief. Having 2 full trolleys I let other customers with smaller amounts of items go through first, we can take time. I tried self service once but I just have too much to juggle in the small space provided. So there was one checkout open with a couple of customers waiting and our 2 trolley train, a staff member opened up next to the other open one, I waved others to go ahead, then another staff member said to us to come through while she was opening up the register, I said we were 2 trolleys and she smiled and said no worries come on through.

We worked great as a team and got through with different bags for each of us and paying separately, I thanked her for helping us by opening up She said thats ok and could I put up the register closed sign,,, so she really did just open just for us,,,,

and that my friend is what real service is!!

Is it true that you sneak BOVAER additive in your beef supply chains to reduce cattle methane?? If so, I'm disgusted!! Why are you sneaking additives like this in the meat we consume? If you choose to use additives you should clearly state on your packaging that you use synthetic additives with questionable effects on humans so consumers can go elsewhere. People, don't buy meat from Coles. Don't mess with your health. Go elsewhere.

And I love the way their "customer care" team always finish off by asking if there is anything else they can help with and then immediately end the chat. That behaviour speaks volumes of the culture in that place. Makes me wonder how many other times they have ripped me off as I have never audited all the past promises of putting a credit on my account or refunding my card when there are missing items on my order. What an absolute useless joke is Coles so-called Customer Care team. They don't give a d#mn about their customers. They don't take accountability. They don't follow up on promises. And their processes are awfully inadequate. Woolworths does every aspect of the process so much better.
