I have recommended to use this product from my dentist for 2 weeks long. However, is it safe to not rinse it out as my dentist told me to fill that solution into the infected area. And as I do so, some of the solution spread to the other area in my mouth. So is it safe to leave it like that without rinse it off?

Thanks for your question. Savacol is recommended to be used as directed by your dentist or on the product label. The product does not require to be rinsed with water after use. As the product has been recommended by your dentist we encourage you to check with them if you have additional questions.

Hi colgate, unfortunately my doctor didn’t provide any contact method for me if I have any question unless I make another appointment with her again. Just one more question to clarify, is it safe if I unintentionally swallow a bit of the mouthwash? Regards, Thank you

I was recommended to use blue Savacol from my dentist, I used it twice a day for a week and still have burning lips and 2 dry spots on the corners of my mouth, food still tastes strange and I have haven’t used it for over 2 weeks now. I have a metallic nasty taste in my mouth all the time. I even diluted with some water as directed by my dentist. How long do I have to wait to feel normal again? I will never use this product again.

Anne
Anne

It will go after a few weeks of not using. I’ll never use again either. I also diluted and even tried to dab it on my gums. My current dentist recommended curasept gel for my gums and they also do toothpaste so I’ve ordered it on-line. I will do a review after using it.

Thanks Anne, I feel somewhat relieved from your answer, will be interested to read review on gel.

I've used the green version (diluted) for years without problems. I don't know what the difference between the blue and green is. When there was a shortage I used other types of mouthwash, and found the taste was strange and left my mouth dry for a short time. I have no answer as to how long it takes to recover your taste, but it is best to consult your dentist. It might be that you would need to dilute a lot more. The taste may be a result of a reaction between the mouthwash and the condition of your gums, and that there is no resolution until your gums are in better condition.

Interesting reading everyone's experiences with it. I have the green one and had issues using it tonight. I used it like I would my old one and rinsed with it for 30 seconds...all was okay. Then about an hour later I ate some crackers and my mouth has been burning / tingling ever since. It's a really strange sensation and makes me nervous due to past allergic reactions to medication. I love the idea of diluting !

We appreciate everyone's feedback. Savacol is an antiseptic mouth & throat rinse which has been specially formulated for the treatment of specific oral conditions. Although a change in taste perception may result for some users of this product as it contains chlorhexidine gluconate, this is only temporary and should resolve after product use is discontinued. If you have additional questions please reach out to our Consumer Care team on 1800 802 307 or consult your oral health practitioner who will be able to advise you further.

Yes I had the burning feeling for at least 3 weeks after I stopped using it, my tongue is good now and food tastes normal but my lips are still suffering with burning especially when I clean my teeth, they also are still swollen but started using difflam recommended by the chemist and that has helped, I also have nasty rash type sores at the corners of my mouth which keep on peeling, I have been using vitamin e oil on these and it has improved but wonder how long it’s going to last because it’s been over 5 weeks now since I stopped using Savacol, definitely not a product I can use again, just wish I had been warned about side affects by my dentist.

Can I eat after using savacol? and I accidently used it straight after brushing my teeth twice today as advised by the pharmacist and my tongue and teeth have a burning sensation should I be worried?

Colgate
Colgate   DM

Thanks for your question. We suggest allowing at least 30 minutes after rinsing before using another product, eating or drinking. Although a burning sensation is not expected from use of this product, there are possible side effects associated with use of a mouth rinse containing chlorhexidine. As Savacol is generally purchased on a professional's recommendation we encourage you to consult with your health care provider who may be able to advise you further.

Is it ok to use Savacol every second day for a continued length of time? Unfortunately I suffer from halitosis and have tried everything mouthwash in the world to control this affliction which seems to be unimportant to the medical profession. Savacol is the only product with which I have success. I only need to rinse once every two days to have a neutral effect on the bacteria causing my problem.

I have recently been told by my dentist I have bad gum disease. My gums are receding at a rapid rate and I definitely am experiencing bone loss The dentist did a scale and clean but did not recommend any type of mouth wash. He just said I have to get a clean & scale every 3 months. I came across Savacol. Is it okay to use if not recommended by dentist and will it help my receding gums?

smca
smca

Well its still working for me, I use it once a day at night, my gums are no longer getting inflamed and have stopped receding...the damage done however does not seem to recover, but having my gums not get any worse, or my teeth get loose and fall out, is worth it for me..dentists are pretty unhelpful, they just say you have periodontal disease and once there are lots of gaps aound the teeth it is even harder to stop infections starting, but the savacol kepps it a bay..good luck

I have the same - gum disease with bone loss. I had a scale n clean and will donut again in 3 months and then 6 monthly. My dentist said to use the Savacol x2daikt for one month and then just use it for one week of each month. The gum disease makes your mouth produce too much nasty bacteria and that makes your gum disease continue. I have just finished my 1st month of using Savacol and the difference is really noticeable. When u start using it you will notice a disgusting taste but it improves after a few days as the bacteria reduces. Good luck with it

My tongue is currently swollen, would savacol mouth & throat rinse help?

Vexed Vix
Vexed Vix

Hey Koda, As I'm not a medical expert nor a qualified health professional, I STRONGLY recommend you see your medical practitioner ASAP. Swollen tongue = oh-oh gotta go to doctor. Savacol, in my opinion is FANTASTIC for killing 99.9% of germs in your mouth and not as a preventative for other issues. So, once tongue issue is sorted simply Savacol after each brush (note: DO NOT exceed more than 60 seconds rinsing in mouth, for some reason I always get a yucky feeling on tongue and it's a bit of an overkill in my opinion). Good Luck!

Hi Koda, thanks for reaching out with your question. I believe that you should not use this product if you are a coffee or Coke drinker because that's where the damage is done.

Having left over coffee in your mouth either before or after rinsing it's most likely to cause staining.

Colgate

Thanks for your question Daisey. As Savacol is an antiseptic mouth & throat rinse which has been specially formulated to be used for the treatment of specific oral conditions (such as gingivitis) and is generally recommended to be used on advice of a dental health professional for the period of time necessary to resolve the specific oral condition, we encourage you to reach out to your dentist to confirm any continued use.

Hi I have a gum infection and my gums have swollen around some of my teeth so I'm trying savacol to reduce the inflammation. My gums don't usually bleed but they have bled around two of the teeth that have swollen gums after rinsing with 15ml undiluted for one minute as directed. Is it OK to continue using savacol? I'm quite impressed as the swelling has already been reduced after only two days of using it.

Charlotte S

I have now used this twice. I found it great for bleeding gums. It should settle down after a few days. What my dentist told me is don't use more than 10 days straight and honestly I didn't need to as gums were fully healed by then.

what can be done to get rid of the burning on the tongue and gums due to using savacol ?

KMJ
KMJ

I can't answer this question, as I didn't have a problem with burning of the tongue. My problem was, on a dentists recommedation to use this product. Subsequently, my teeth stained quite badly, however, after seeing a dentist, and having a good clean, the staining has disappeared, and has not returned! However, I will not use this product again, as it seems a minority of people do have this outcome with this product.
