Coolzy-Pro Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPN: PC9RLHey I'm just wondering if anyone knows why the compressor (think that's the noisy part) suddenly shuts off after after a couple of minutes then comes back on?
Model: Close Comfort PC9+Plus. When totally power off the unit will it still remember my last setting or it will only remember my setting if it is just a soft switch off by the remote control or closing the cover and still keep the main power on? If it do not remember the setting than what is the default setting and fan speed when power on the main and than turn on the unit?
Hi Little John, it will automatically remember your settings :)
why on earth do you virtually have to sit on it to get cool, and the pissy fan throws out stuffall wind, absolutely the biggest rippoff in the history of portable air conditioners, not even slightly impressed................
Hi John, the Coolzy is sold as a low power air-conditioner (it's on the front of our website). It's low power for a few reasons being, better for the environment, lighter, quieter, more portable, suitable for a caravan etc.
The Coolzy will remove 1100w of energy from the ambient air. This equates to 10-12c of temperature that benefits the user that it's blowing towards. On our website, we say in multiple places, that if you need more cooling you'll need a split system A/C.
Your comment is a bit like someone that has purchased a hatchback and is complaining that it's weaker than a tow truck. The simple answer is that they're different machines designed for different applications.

Hi. I am preparing for van life and am excited to hear about the coolzy pro. I am a few months away so instead of buying the pro now, I am wondering if there is anything in the works to make it smaller or a more landscape orientation? Will it only cool what is in front of it or a small area that is closed off. (Just a bed area) How far away can you be and still feel the cooling?
Hi, thanks for the question. We've got a few videos on our YouTube channel that might answer this so it's worth checking them out as they go into more detail. - Coolzy with landscape orientation? nope, we've found that this is a less efficient way of laying out the machine as it uses more floor space (not ideal for a small area) - New unit - we are working on new models :) but no news on when they might be released. What we can say is that the new models will have a similar footprint and volume - Cooling the front - yes, this is mostly true. The Coolzy generates 1100w worth of cooling so if you're in a very small, well insulated space, then it will have an impact. Otherwise, it's really designed for cooling people while sitting down or sleeping.
Hope that helps :)
So reading these mixed reviews I'm confused Are some people just turning them on in a room without ducting the heat outside causing rooms to heat up. or is the hot air coming from the cold outlet. Without ducting the heat outside it would naturally heat the room wouldn't it That's not a machine fault but operator fault or am I missing something looking at one for an off grid small cabin Cheers
We suspect this might be what's going on. Never the less, we try our best to work with the customers to help them with their particular circumstances. For users in small rooms, we even designed two different Tails to add on to the machine to assist with ducting.
100% that's the issue. Folks aren't reading what the product can/can't do. You realize it's actually a good little unit when you do your research.
We suspect you're right Toby
How large an area does the coolzy pro cool? Is the coolzy go better for a large area? Do you need to use a hose to expel the hot air?
This product does not cool a space, regardless of room size. It is a spot cooler, it cools a small space right infront of the unit, you will have to stay still to get the cooling. sleeping, reading, playing mobile phones ect. Yes, I`d say you need the hose, they call it "Tail" accessory in their store. I personally won`t use it without their Igloo tent, I am frozen every morning during the entire summer by sleeping in the tent and running the Coolzy Pro.
Hi William, Little Red has hit the nail on the head. A Coolzy only cools a small zone within a room. The good thing about this is that it works in any size room. We've purposely done this because a lot of energy is wasted by attempting to cool an entire room. Our goal was to product a low energy unit that would keep users comfortable without using a lot of electricity. Most of our customers would use our unit when sleeping, reading, watching cricket etc. We've go a great page on ventilation for the energy that is removed from the cool air. You can read it here:https://www.coolzy.com/au/small-room-ventilation-portable-air-conditioner/
Hope that helps :)
Hi there, I have a campervan and due to space restrictions I would need to transport this on it's side. Would it be ok to transport like this? Thanks. Dan.
Sorry no, attempting to start the unit when it has been on its side MAY result in damage to the compressor. It would need at least 12 hours in the upright position to allow the refrigerant to return to its rightful place.
I live in the West Kimberley where we can get 90% humidity. I have a small one person room under the house with one window currently used as a cyclone shelter so very solid with no insulation. Will this unit work in those circumstances?
Hi Gill, thanks for the question. Yes, the Coolzy will work because it isn't an evaporative cooler. The Coolzy is a real air-con which means it produces cool air regardless of the humidity. In fact, in our testing, we find the Coolzy is even more effective when it is really humid because the water droplets help to transfer the cool air around the room. What will happen is that the Coolzy will get condensation on the inside of the machine because water in the air will want to form droplets on the cooling element of the Coolzy. It's ok, we've designed a water catching tray on the inside of the Coolzy so the water droplets will be caught there and can be emptied (probably only necessary on really humid nights). This means that the Coolzy will also lower the humidity (if only slightly).
The big thing you're going to want to do is vent the small amount of warm air that the Coolzy produces. This year we'll be launching the Coolzy Tail which allows you to direct the warm air out of a window or door. We'll also be launching a pipe that can be attached to a window.
I guess the real advantage of using a Coolzy in a cyclone shelter is that because it draws so little power you can run it off a generator or a battery (as long as you're using an inverter).
Hope that helps :)
P.S check out the Coolzy tent too which will help with the bugs and keep the cool air focused on the bed. Our users rave about this product up in Cairns.
Thanks a lot for your informative reply and advice. Can you let me know when the Coolzy tail or pipe is available and I will definitely purchase a Coolzy. The room has one door and one small window which doesn't allow for much airflow in the room, so which would be better tail or pipe? Thanks Gill :)
Cheers Gill. We should have the tails and pipes towards the end of October (pending container ships running smoothly). For your solution I'd probably give the smaller tail a whirl first to expel the warm air via an open door rather than connect anything to your window (so that you can preserve natural light).
Thanks for answering my question, I would like to put in an order for a Coolzy-Pro with smaller tail as soon as it becomes available, can you get your sales team to contact me? Thanks Gill
We would be happy to. To do so we'll need your contact info. Can you please send us a direct email via our website as we can't contact you via this platform. Here's the page to go to: external link
How do I find out my shipping information? I ordered on June 28 and have not received shipping stats. I am in the USA. Your posted phone numbers don't work for me.
Hi Dennis M. Our tracking info was sent and according to our records the item has been delivered.
What is the coldest air conditioning setting, is it 25 or 17, and how do I keep it working to cool the air around me?
Hi Brian, sorry for not replying earlier (we missed this one). The Coolzy can be set at it's lowest which will work to remove ~1100watts of energy from the air. Based on the air-flow rate this means it'll remove around 10c-12c from the ambient air temperature. So if it's 30c you'll be getting air that's about 18c-20c from the front of the machine. The machine only produces cool air from 17c upwards. That's to prevent icing (most people wouldn't want anything cool than that anyway).
Hope that helps. If you need more just submit a ticket via our site and we'll get an engineer to answer more thoroughly :)
That’s ok, so is 17c the coldest that the Coolzy can go?
The thermostat will turn on the internal compressor at 17C. This means the machine will suck air in that is 17C and then cool it further, and return it to you at 17C-10C. This means the resulting air will be around 7C (pretty chilly!)
Does it blow out hot air from the back? I need it to for my study room and windows are blocked with fly screen, the door is connected to living room.
Yes, it does. I have one in my home office. You need to be sitting within 1-2 ?meters of it to feel cool. You could have the unit placed by the window (propped up on a sturdy chair or table) and use block out curtains to cover the back flap of the unit so the hot air blows out the window and not heat up the room
On the product page we say: "The Coolzy-Pro Portable Air Conditioner cools people, not rooms by providing a constant stream of cool refrigerated air from the front of the unit and a small amount of warm air from the rear of the unit. In large spaces, this warm air usually dissipates however in smaller rooms, the warm air needs to be vented by leaving a door or window open."
On the How it Works page we say: "Unlike other portable air conditioners, Coolzy focuses on cooling people, not rooms by providing a stream of cool air from the front of the unit. The by-product of this cooling is a small amount of warm air (about the same as 3 old light bulbs) that is expelled from the rear of the unit (similar to a small bar fridge). We recommend that in small spaces, this warm air must be allowed to ventilate and escape the room. This can be done by leaving a window or door open."
This means that if you were trying to cool a room, then the Coolzy is an inappropriate choice. However, if you're happy to leave the window/door open so that the warm air can vent, then you'll enjoy a nice stream of cool air from the Coolzy while you're sitting at your desk :)
What is an igloo tent? Asking for a friend.
it's this bad boy! external link work's a treat and stops mossies
Hi MargyB, the Igloo tent is our own patented design which keeps the cool air over the bed so that customers can have a nice cool night's sleep. We'd originally designed it for really humid environments (think India, Pakistan, Indonesia and Northern Australia) but it works so well that it's been adopted by our customers everywhere!
Added bonus is that it keeps out the mozzies.
From what I am reading you have to be sitting directly in front of it to get the bricks benefits. I was looking for a unit to sit outside of my 2 daughters bedrooms. Will this unit be no good if it doesn't cool the room?
We’ve been using ours to help our 4yo son sleep. We point it at his bed and it stops him from over heating. It is a narrow focus for the cool air so it won’t cool a whole room. It’s not for every application but for the application we use it for, it works very very well
Thank you. This would mean I would need 2 for both of my daughters as they are in separate rooms. I may be best getting the evaporation units instead.
It wont cool the room Sindi. You might want to consider getting the igloo tent to use with the unit to get the maximum benefit. One of my kids like to use the igloo tent but the older ones don't because they like to stay up playing on their computers so obviously you cant be in a tent if you're standing up or sitting in a desk. The older kid does use the coolzy directly beside them while the coolzy exhaust is blowing the air out of the window. I will try to take photos and see if i can upload here so u can see the set up we have
Hi Sindi, Carol and Peter have answered pretty accurately :) What I would suggest is to reconsider whether an evaporative unit is a good solution. The reason being that they don't work in humid environments. They, in fact, increase the relative humidity in the room which can make everything feel sticky and wet. Many of our customers report paper curling etc because of the additional moisture.
Coolzy's aren't evaporative, they're a genuine refrigerative option. It's not unusual for customers to purchase one for each child as it's still a lower cost option than a split-system and it's extremely portable so if the kids ever move out, they can take it with them :)
How long does it run before you empty the water
it ain't cooled by water. I think that's called evaporative. This ones a real aircon with a compressa
Hi John, thanks for the question. The unit is a refrigerated air-con and thus doesn't need water to operate. It does have the ability to work as a dehumidifier and has a small reservoir to collect water from the air. If this is used, the reservoir should be emptied every 4-6hrs in really humid conditions (such as Darwin mid summer).
Hope that helps.
Where does the hot air go
produces very little hot air so it just goes in the room. Me wife hates sleepin with aircon and always wants a window open so we just leave it open and warm air goes out
Hi John, yes, just like Peter said, the hot air is fairly minimal because the unit only uses 300w of energy. Our recommendation is that if the room is large, it shouldn't be a problem however for smaller spaces we recommend for a window/door to be left open.
Does it blow hot air from rear? Where does the hot air go as no hose pipe leading outside? Thanks
Hi Donna, the hot air comes out of the back of the unit. You'll see that in all our materials, we recommend using it with the windows open to let the hot air out (and fresh air in). Our unit uses less power than any other on the market, this means that it generates less heat (about as much as a bar fridge) so we find the hot air is nominal at best.
Don't take our word for it though, read our reviews :)
Hi Donna. Sorry for the late reply but I have been waiting for a really steamy hot day to test the unit and reply to you. Today was the day! We live on the Gold Coast so humidity can be very high. We had the unit on high today and the front air vent was nice & cool. The heat comes out of the back but doesn’t seem to heat the room at all. You have to sit in front of the unit to get the benefit (as stated in the web instructions & video) so don’t expect it to be like a wall reverse cycle aircon. we are using it in a single garage that has no windows and very little airflow other than a door at the opposite end of where we need cooling so it is being put to the test. It’s better than no cooling at all and a Evaporative Cooler WILL NOT work at all in Humidity. It will only make the room even hotter. Believe me we have tried one. I can definitely recommend this product. There is no comparison on the market. The CoolMax that is advertised on TV is an Evaporative Cooler. You have to read all the reviews to finally realise that it does not work in humidity. Hope this helps you.
Thanks for the endorsement Caz :) glad to hear you're enjoying your unit.
So does it cool the whole room like a aircon or just directly onto the person.
Jennifer, it's really just for one or two people - perfect for my wife and I working side by side at a desk at home. Not really for cooling a whole room, just what they call a 'micro climate'. I LOVE my Close Comfort.
Thank you, Dave. Your feedback is very important to us. We are happy to know you are having cooler moments with our unit. Let us know if you need any assistance.
Where is it made?
Australian designed technology and it is manufactured and assembled Taiwanese owned factory in China.
Dear Sir,
Why has the PC9+ /Cool Focus been discontinued ?
Thanks.
hi, you might like to email contact@closecomfort.com their sale support for the info.
Hi John, We are constantly evolving our product offering and increasing the efficiency of our air conditioning units to meet expectations. The PC9+ model was first released back in 2017. After improving the compressors and other internal components last year plus creating a new in-built focus enhancer to double the cooling effect of the Close Comfort unit, a new iteration of our air conditioners was born. We named this model Cool Focus. We also added another new model to our product line in Australia, Easy Focus, that has single pre-set speed and temperature settings for people who don't need a remote and prefer to open our units and be cool straight away.
We're constantly working on improvements and innovations that will see new models and accessories being released to customers in future months and in the years to come.
Thank you for your question and, as Kip suggested in his comment, feel free to reach out to us anytime at contact@closecomfort.com or by phone on 1300 22 66 58 and we'll be happy to speak to you.
Does it heat as well as cool
The unit works as a refrigerated air conditioner but no it is not reverse cycle.
