Cord Panorama Questions & Answers
I bought a Cord Panorama in 2013 and it suddenly died - first the display just showed bars, then it went blank completely and won't power on at all. I have checked the power supply and it is fine (10V). Is it worth trying to repair?
My Cord Internet radio has stopped working for BBC stations. Is their anything going on that this can be overcome?
Same issue - it's because BBC changed the streaming format and the Cord doesn't support HLS.
Yes but is there a fix from Cord??
My Cord Panorama Internet radio, bought new in 2013, just stopped working. I opened the case and checked - the DC power supply seems to be dead. Can anyone tell me what the DC voltage should be?
Sorry can’t help you on this one. Maybe try and google a manual for the Cord.
Thank you, Mike, for your prompt response. I still have the original manual that came with the radio, but all that it has is the usual "do not open the case" warning. And the manual available on-line is exactly the same. It is not even clear whether the "Cord" brand is still in production. Not to worry - I shall try applying gradually increasing DC voltages until I reach a conclusion.
Further to the above - I have found that the system is powered by 12 Volts DC . I have removed the defunct PSU. The radio is now working well, powered by an AC to DC adapter..
Hi Aggie. I am in the same boat. Could possibly share at which point inside the unit you connected your adapter, and what current rating you got? Thanks. Happy new year. Nathan
My Cord Panorama Internet radio, which I bought new is 2013, has stopped working. I opened case and checked the DC power supply - appears to be dead. Can anyone tell me what DC voltage it should be supplying? (Nick in Dunedin, NZ)
Where can l purchase a remote control for my cord panorama?
Try eBay. There is one for sale now for $20.00. Seller is “mikn4321” in Montrose Victoria.
I was very pleased with the quality of the sound of my radio for the first year or so. Then it started dropping off the home network for no apparent reason and the sound has come very distorted on DAB and internet radio and very difficult to hear properly. I cant connect to Bluetooth devices so cant tell if that is the same issue on there. Can you advise?
I am sorry it sounds like something major wrong. Doesn’t seem like internet as DAB is also a problem. Bluetooth being a problem also so seems like a unit problem somewhere. Sorry couldn’t be more help.
I had a distorted sound problem on all sources and bluetooth would not connect. A tiny resistor had failed (gone to a high value due to current overload), in one of the voltage regulator circuits. Any competent repair service would see the burnt resistor on the circuit board and replace it with a higher value capable of handling the higher current. Problem solved!
Hi Frank, I am experiencing a similar fault on my Cord unit. Is there any chance you know the position and/or value of the resistor that was replaced. As these Cord units are now discontinued I opened up the unit but can not see anything that had obviously blown. Best regards
Hi Des, Apologies it's taken so long to reply but only just saw this message today. Must have skipped over it in my hast to check in box back then and clearing out old messages today. The faulty resistor in question was rated at 1/8 watt, a very tiny rectangular type barely larger than the tip of a pencil which showed signs of overheating on the main board. Replaced same with a 1/2 watt. Problem solved and still working to this day and sounds great I'm happy to report! Look under the large metallic cover on the main board. Would have sent photos but is all put together now. Hope this helps. Kind regards, Frank
Hi Frank, I was just revisiting this site and found your answer from last year. Apologies for the delay in thanking you for your advice. I will now see if I can find that resistor! Tks again - DesB
The radio will NOT switch on?
what won't the radio turn on?
can I connect external antenna to cord panorama
I don’t think so
No.
unable to read the screen due to vertical distortion. Is there a fix?
What is the "skull looking" display on the right hand bottom corner of the screen please?
Unsure but I think it may be that wifi is connected.
cord panorama how to reset presets or cancel all presets
Hi, I've had my Cord Panorama Digital Radio for at least three or four years and never had a problem. All of a sudden, when I try listening to my pre-set international radio stations, I'm getting an audio message that says "Due to recent changes to our Internet radio service, you will need to save your pre-sets again." What does this mean and what can I do?
The company that allows Frontier Wifi radio to supply internet radio has ceased operations. There is a work around that Frontier has done but the saving of internet stations via the internet to the Cord radio now is unable to be used. Turn the power off to the radio. Turn it back on after 30 seconds. You then should be able to turn and get internet radio stations by manually tuning the radio. The online saving of stations cannot be done. Not good but at least can get internet stations again but not a long list. Good luck. This worked for me via a website search.
Thank you
Hi
Can you play the music from this unit via Bluetooth to external Bluetooth speakers?
Thanks ...
Yes you can and it is crystal clear. Mine is still going strong. Love it.
Don't know - have not tried!
Thanks for your help guys ...
The Bluetooth is really quiet even when I have both the device( iPhone) and the radio volumes as loud as they can go. How can I fix this...what am I doing wrong?
I would try using a different music player app on your iphone.....
Not to sure. When you use the Cord on radio only is it nice and loud? If it is there needs to be an update on Cord or iPhone as there seems to be a hardware mismatch. Hope this helps.
Just a guess but go to the settings in your phone. Turn up media volume to max. See if that fixes the problem. If that don't work- dunno
I have the same problem - the sound volume on Bluetooth is feeble, so I have to use a different Bluetooth speaker, and not the Cord Panorama BT radio.
Can I tune into serbian radio stations?
Hi Samantha I need to answer your question in 2 parts. 1). DAB | FM. If there is a Serbian DAB or FM radio service in your area and you are within reception range then you should be fine. 2). Internet. Internet streamed radio is not location dependent so you can listen to stations from all over the world. Internet radio streams are not all the same though as there are a wide range of codecs (how the information is packaged and sent). This can cause compatibility issues but Cord claims compatibility with 10,000 stations worlwide so I would expect you to have success in streaming your favorite station.
Let us know how you get on. :-)
I have a Panorama BT. I pressed something and virtually lost everything. I keep getting a skull on the screen that seems to be stopping everything. It won’t even reset. Any ideas?
Sorry never seen that happen. Can't help you. The skull is interesting, it's as if the thing has some kind of virus. Is that even possible?
Hi Chez85. I have never seen this icon so can only make an educated guess. Firstly I doubt it's a virus because the underlying system in these devices is almost always embedded Linux on which viruses are virtually unheard of. It's clearly trying to tell you that something died. Possibly it's the Bluetooth connection but in view of the "lock out" you are experiencing it's possible that the underlying system is not booting properly. Try powering down and leaving the device overnight before trying to configure the wireless settings again (or factory reset). If that fails either take it back under warranty or email the manufacturer. Please post back when you have a solution as this will benefit others.
I'm in a rural area outside of DAB range.
Looking for a good WiFi radio.
This seems to be a possible and other suggestions for just using WiFi Radio without having the computer on to listen?
Mine is wired but did try it with the WiFi and works well. So long if your Wifi modem/router is on should be no need to turn the comuter on to listen. Sound quality on the internet stations is pretty good considering some of them use a low bit rate.
As i mentioned in my review the reception on FM is a bit iffy. I opened the back of mine the other day to see if I could use an external power souce apart from the 240 VAC and it looks like a very easy modification to make that happen. As the power supply in the radio is totaly seperate from the main board. It requires 12VDC. Looking inside of it it wouldn't take much at all to make a provision for an external Antenna. It is great radio, now if only had AM to it would tick every box.
Hope this helps
Steve. .
Yes, the Cord will work fine on WiFi. Long as your WiFi modem/router, as Steve said, in on you will receive many thousands of stations. The DAB antenna is fairly redundant anyway. You will find most, if not all, your local digital stations are also in the WiFi menu....and you can listen to them thru WiFi instead of direct DAB reception.
Thanks for the information Steve and Buckwheat. Much appreciated.
Does this have a built in speaker or do you have to connect speakers to it? I don't need stereo as I would only use it for news channel not music. Presume I can use it just as a DAB radio without using wifi? The price seems to have gone up now $279 at JB hifi.
Hi Solarman Yes it has a built in speaker (see circular speaker grill on left of unit) and it can achieve a decent volume. I would question though if this a good value solution for you given that you don't have a need for wifi. Standard DAB radios can be picked up from KMART, BIGW, Dicksmith, Aldi etc for a fraction of the cost. Anyway, hope this has helped.
Thank you Phil, I do have a small Sangean digital but find the volume is not enough to hear well. and this one got very good reviews You never know I might get into the internet radio thing if I like it. After all once I said I wasnt bothered about getting a computer!
Looking at the portable radios many of the bigger ones take quite large batteries and they cost nearly as much as the radio for a set of rechargables plus the cost of a charger.
Hi Solarman, Phil is right it does have a good speaker, not a tinny one like some DAB radios. Best thing about this radio is that if you are in an area that has lousy DAB signal, you can switch to an internet connection. The price at JB's seems high. Maybe it is getting close to Xmas. I saw it last January for $224 in JB's but then they had an online special and I got one for roughly $159. $279 seems very high.
Ill have a shop around and see if I can find it cheaper.I dont like buying on line for something like this as I like to see someone if I have to take it back. I think you generally get what you pay for, If you pay cheap you get cheap.Id quite like a solar powered one but there was only one model and Harvey Norman said they no longer sell it as too many were returned. You used to know by the make which ones were good but now they are all made in Asia its no guide, only the name is used like bush and Pye, old British names famed for reliability. I wish digital had been around 50 years ago, I would have purchased a vintage one.I have a 50 yo analogue radio that still works very well.Digital technology is very hit and miss, wont connect, no signal etc etc......
No worries Solarman. Just out of interest I had a dig around on a few sites to see what is a rough average for output wattage and most seem to be below 3 watts RMS so the Cord Panorama at 7 Watts is certainly a relatively powerful unit, which sounds great for your needs. The price does indeed seem to have risen which I guess can be attributed to the exchange rate. Would be nice to see such things offset but the falling cost of manufacturing the components! :-)
Thank you Phil. I did in fact purchase one from JB HI fi yesterday, and paid $224 The assistant said that it should have been $279 but let me have it cheaper as they made a mistake labelling. I dont understand anything about watts but am very pleased with it so far. Good clear sound and easy to operate although I havnt tried wi fi yet.The display is very bright so im not sure what the power consumption is on stand by..Tuning was easy. 5 stars so far.
Hi Solarman
You can turn down the brightness of the display if you want.
Main menu -> System settings ->Contrast Then select Low | Medium | High
Happy listening.
im having difficulty connecting to wi fi has any body got any tricks ? please
No tricks. Just follow the instructions and don't forget your WiFi password
I agree. Never had a problem. Follow the instructions and make sure your password is correct.
Thanks guys , I think I will have to do a factory reset as its not happening for me . Cheers
Hey g man Assuming there's no hardware issue with the unit the answer probably boils down to your router settings or the PC/Mac's files sharing settings. Things that can get in the way of making connections are correctly entered passwords, MAC filters, Firewalls, folders not correctly shared. Hope this gives you some clues.
