After researching and researching and researching air purifiers (I briefly considered making it my personality), I finally took the plunge and landed on the Coway Airmega 150 for a few reasons: 1) It has a large frontal intake on one side only, which means I can put its back against a wall or furniture like a normal human being. 360-degree intake that would force me to display it in the middle of the room like a modern art installation.
2) Its shape is perfect: a nice, sensible rectangle. No weird curves, no “what is that thing?” vibes.
3) It has an easy-to-clean pre-filter (a big win for the lazily motivated).
4) Its main filter supposedly lasts up to a year — future me appreciates that.
Aesthetically, it’s surprisingly easy on the eyes. I got the white color (there’s also a blue version), and it’s not the blinding, “hospital corridor” white. It’s more neutral and well-behaved — not a sore thumb, not an attention seeker, just quietly existing in whatever room I put it in.
Noise-wise, I read a lot of mixed reports. There are multiple modes, and only on “Setting 2” do you really hear it — because it’s moving A LOT of air and clearly means business. On automatic mode, you might hear it ramp up at first while it aggressively cleans the room, but once that’s done it settles into what I’d call “maintenance mode.” Most of the time, I barely hear it at all. It’s so quiet that I actually move it into the bedroom at night to keep my air fresh while I sleep like a delicate Victorian child.
There is a “silent” mode, but honestly, I haven’t used it. I don’t feel the need — automatic or Setting 1 is already quiet enough unless you’re trying to hear your own thoughts echo.
I’ve had the purifier for about two months now, and I can confidently say it’s doing at least two very noticeable things:
1) There is significantly less dust around my place. I noticed this almost immediately. I dust less now, which is basically a lifestyle upgrade.
2) When someone cooks onions, sprays perfume, or commits some other airborne offense, those smells are promptly removed. It’s like the purifier politely but firmly escorts them out.
As for what else it’s pulling out of the air — who knows. I can’t see allergens, but I did have to clean the pre-filter once already, so something is definitely happening. Cleaning it was easy: pull it out, rinse it under the shower head, let it dry for about an hour, and pop it back in. No tools, no frustration, no YouTube tutorial required. You just pull the tab like I did in the photo.
The carbon filter sits between the pre-filter and the green HEPA filter and is divided into honeycomb-style sections filled with activated carbon pellets. Importantly, this is not one of those flimsy carbon sheets, which made me feel oddly reassured.
The HEPA filter still looks clean, so it’s shaping up to last the full year as advertised. I also appreciate that Coway added foam padding around it to create an airtight seal, so air can’t sneak around the filter like it’s cutting corners.
I haven’t had to adjust the air quality sensor at all — whatever setting it shipped with seems to work just fine. Most of the time I leave it on Setting 1, since it circulates air quietly and doesn’t draw attention to itself.
There’s also a light that can function as a night-light, and thankfully, you can turn it off if you don’t want your purifier staring at you while you sleep.
The only real downside: the power cord is short. Maybe about a meter. I would’ve loved closer to two meters so I could move it around without playing musical outlets.
Overall, this purifier nails the compact, minimalist design. It doesn’t take up much space, blends well with pretty much any decor, and actually seems to do what it claims. I’m dusting less, the air feels cleaner, and maintenance is refreshingly low-effort.
Best of all? It’s incredibly easy to use and feels like a solid value for the price. I ordered mine from Amazon, and so far, it’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to do — quietly, efficiently, and without demanding my attention. Which is honestly the dream.
Works exactly as advertised! – Size and design fits in really well with modern rooms. Four modes of operation - silent is brilliant for bedrooms. Really noticeable difference in the air and super easy to clean.
