Coway Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH
VerifiedMPN: AP-1512HH1 review
Awesome unit. Coway equals Rightway – We live in a place with huge trees, dirt road and a big garden of natives and non-natives that flower all through the year. That means dust and pollens by the truckload. Also have a Cat and Dog, both long haired. That means fur up the wazoo as well. Adding all that together was too much (in a new house we moved to) and we felt that even after… Read more
vacuuming all the time, it was an impossible task to suppress it all as we were getting headaches and sinus issues that we couldn't attribute to anything else. After a lot of investigation into different makes and models available, we decided upon a good large room (only) appropriate system. Was tempting to get a whopper that does much bigger spaces, but we were concerned that noise may be an issue and what if nothing changes ? Rather start small, do the proof of concept on something decent and move up if successful.
Chose the Coway as reviews were excellent to begin with and it was a prize winner or chosen product on sites who do reviews.
This machine has been fantastic. The amount of stuff it drags from the air is disturbing even after you vacuum the entire room daily. There is a air-quality status light on the top of the machine which glows red/purple when there's something in the air that needs more scrubbing and it will rev up to clean it a bit harder as needed. The light turns bright blue when all is clear. We rarely take it off Auto mode which seems to be doing the job from the evidence, but once I turned it up when we moved furniture around in the bedroom which created a cloud of dust particles just to get it out of the air faster. An Air ionizer button also on top, but how do you prove that is working? Don't know but sounds good in theory so turn it on anyway.
The machine is kept in our bedroom and is so quiet you can barely hear it. That was the most important aspect for us. It hardly ever feels the need to automatically hit high gear (which is quite noisy) as Auto mode keeps the air clean constantly and it's been running for 16 months straight.
Taking filters out and replacing is simple with big pieces, obvious placement and crisp latches.
BUT... the blue light mentioned earlier is horrendous in a bedroom. It is so bright it lights the entire room up. So every night I throw socks or t-shirt on the unit to stop that. In some other room, who cares, but not in the bedroom. I'd rather the complete absence of a light signalling OK than this constant blue one. But that doesn't market as well. So I removed a star because it's annoying to have to do this every day.
So overall, this system is so good, we bought a second one for another room to cater for guests who may have issues with the air quality as well. Filters are suggested to be changed yearly and if you shop around you can get better deals than list price pretty readily (which are not cheap), but are high quality.
