Cussons Imperial Leather Soap

Having used Imperial Leather soap for about 60 years, I think something has changed. More moisturiser? It becomes mushy in no time, the label comes off. What has been done to it?! Certainly won't buy it again, and I've still 4 unused bars to go. How disappointing. Show details

Evocative smell – To me this toilet soap smells the same as always..creamy and cleansing..the fragrance lasts on the skin..it is a soft soap so does not like sitting in water!..have used it for many many years and will continue to do so..never had bad skin reaction to it. Show details

Quality that's worth it, even though cutting back on everything – It lathers perfectly, it keeps it's shape. Smells delicious. Come out of shower feeling clean and scented, unlike cheap soaps. Not even Aldi out Lidl have managed to dupe this. I get it in poundland, ok prices gone up and fewer bars, but it's still the best. I buy dupes for everything except imperial leather soap. Oh and the pink stuff is worth moving from big brand to cheaper. It really beats the rest.

I love it and so does my family – The scent is still as I remember as a child over 65 years ago when my grandmother introduced it to me. It doesn’t lose its shape or texture as other reviews have said. As far as animal fats being removed - good!! All the more reason to buy it! Show details

Nauseating new smell – The new smell is horrid and nauseating. It smells like the cheap hand sanitisers we all used during Covid. Change it back Cussons - it wasn’t broke so why try to fix it. Show details

Bring back the REAL Original Imperial Leather – After using Imperial Leather soap all my life, I was very disappointed open a fresh packet and be greeted with a horrid smell. Why change a very pleasant product? The new bar is a darker colour, much shinier and even the label is different. Not as good as it was – Imperial Leather used to be the best soap but lately it has changed for the worse. The scent is still lovely and it still lathers well, but (a) the label no longer protrudes and does not provide a small area for the bar to rest on (to stop it going soggy) and (b) Imperial Leather now goes very soft very quickly regardless of the label. Show details

Awful soap , the worse soap , I am not surprised it is called "the Imperial " just the parasites quality !! – The worse soap , caused me itching , soar , pain in my skin and made my skin very dry inflamed .. Not as 'gentle' as it claims to be – In the past, Imperial leather original (in 2016 onwards) has been okay for my skin; although I stopped using it in 2017 in pursuit of a nicer, more feel-good soap. the soap was perfect at first. Didn't smell as nice but cleaned me up and I thought it wasn't reacting badly to my skin. But then I started to notice dry patches of peeling skin on my body (thigh, tummy, etc etc). I thought it was due to me not scrubbing thoroughly enough so I started scrubbing more harder and meticulously in those areas especially but the problem persisted. So I switched to Cussons liquid soap bottles and I have not had this issue since. So I have included that the gentle soap bar; despite being 'gentle', was actually drying out my very sensitive skin and damaging it.

Does the Queen know about this? – I cannot review the original bar soap because what just came in the mail ain't it. It looks like the original. It is marketed as the original, but it is not the original. Not even close. What it is, is a stinky bar of pure disappointment.

Absolute junk...do not buy !! – Like many others, I have used Cussons Original Imperial Leather soap for more than 50 years, and loved it. Soon after use each these bars kept splitting open, and soon went soft and soggy. In fine print (next to the Barcode) it states Made in Thailand. Wooden pick in my soap – I was washing my hands with your soap and felt something sharp when washing I noticed something was in the bar of soap itself so I rubbed away at it and found a sharp wooden pick which myself and 3 kids was using I am out raged by the negligent of the company my kids wash there face with the soap it could of blinded them Show details

Doesn't scrub up on the Original – Cracks and dissolves quickly after only being used a few washes. Not as it was in the 80s when I grew up as things change over time. Wouldn't purchase again. Show details

What has happened to what was an excellent soap bar? – My family and I have enjoyed using Imperial Leather Original for years and years. Very frustrating that it is not as it used to be. It splits soon after first use and worse, it seems to deteriorate, softening and turning to mush and leaving a wasteful amount in the soap dish and on the wash basin. A costly mess now. Not the soap it was which LASTED for ages – Have bought it twice in last two years and both time it rapidly developed into mush. The first time I communicated with the firm, which was based in M/c! Change of original recipe, which was designed for Russian court! Why the heck was I stupid enough to try it again. It has a lovely aroma but that is not enough. Rubbish soap – The soap cracked after 2 days on the sink and left a scum on the other side, I wrote to Cussons the said they had taken out the animal fat, they sent me a 35p voucher, I chucked it in the bin with the rest of the soap. Show details

It used to be good but not now – I purchased a pack of 6 bars of Imperial Leather Soap. I am currently using the first one in the powder room. It is very messy and so much waste is occurring as when the soap is wet so much more of the product is dispersed and leaves a mess on the hand towel and in the basin. So much more water has to be used to get the soap off your hands. It used to be good but after this, I will no longer be buying it. It is no longer cost-effective either. Show details

I thought the loss of fragrance was just me – I have loved this soap for many years. Wherever placed in the bathroom it would greet you with its wonderful fragrance. others it’s your frigging soap you gits, I am so annoyed at you lot why had it changed and what rubbish is it full of? You cannot change something and not tell us, I was really worried I have some skin condition but no looking at the reviews, so if you altered the product then alter the branding!!!!!!!! If we don’t buy it then tough that’s your problem, don’t alter something totally and then keep quiet, at least put on the packaging “new pourer quality guaranteed to ruin you skin”

I’ve been meaning to write this for a while – My husband has used Imperial Leather soap as his go-to for a number of years, but now enough is enough! My objection is the amount of unnecessary plastic used in the packaging. Each individual bar is wrapped in plastic (WHY?) and is encased in a cardboard holder. Then the whole four bars are again wrapped entirely in plastic. We have now switched brands. Show details

Faulty no company response – The product comes in a can and fails to spray I purchased several can none work, I contact the company and no reply after a month. This may be a faulty batch but there is no way of knowing.

Disapointed in product quality – I have used this soap for over 40 years but I have become increasingly frustrated with the bar splitting. This can occur in less that 1 day of opening and using the soap. The product has become wastefull. Show details

No longer kind on skin – I have been using Imperial Leather all my life. Quite recently I noticed my skin was becoming irritated after use. Today I was unfortunate enough to get some into my eyes. The stinging pain was excruciating. Three hours later I am still in discomfort. I still find it painful to move my left eyelid. I have used the product for the last time.
