Killed our little Aussie Terrier – Very similar story to the guy who lost his Boxer. We were told there was a shot that could stop her itching, and that it was safe, but it turned out quite the opposite. Shortly after receiving it her behaviour changed dramatically, lost all her zest for life, became lethargic, didn't want to walk, lost her appetite, starting licking dirt and… Read more
stones and then her back legs started to get weak and wobbly and then she had a seizure. She was only 4 yrs old and full of zing and vigour before the shot. We took her to a neurologist, she had an MRI scan and all the other relevant tests and they could not find a diagnosis for her. She was put on a dose of antibiotics and prednisolone, but to no avail, she died a few weeks later. We are certain it was Cytopoint that killed her.
Didn't work – Only reason I didn't give one star is because our dog did not die like I see some others have. I am so sorry for your loss by the way. Our pitbull got this injection to try to help with her allergies on top of her apoquel and it did absolutely nothing. If anything I think it made her a bit worse. Waste of a lot of money. I'm sure the only reason… Read more
vets push this is because of the kickback $$$ they get from the company. Just like pharmaceuticals for us humans. It's sad.
I believe Cytopoint killed my dog – My healthy 8-year-old rescue dog died after receiving an injection of Cytopoint for itching. He had no other medical problems. After receiving an injection of Cytopoint, he suffered a condition in which his immune system destroyed his platelets, and he died a horrible death within about two weeks, despite around-the-clock care at a veterinary… Read more
hospital. Afterwards I learned that Zoetis (the company that markets this drug) also sells Cytopoint in Europe and lists a variety of potentially lethal reactions in its European package insert (but mentions none of these in the U.S.), including-immune mediated reactions such as what my dog experienced. I'm convinced that Cytopoint killed my dog, and many others, based not only on my personal experience but also on a review of data I obtained from the USDA database through the Freedom of Information Act. The USDA (not the FDA) oversees Cytopoint but appears to me to be doing nothing about the many reports of deaths following the administration of this drug.
Is Cytopoint Effective in the Long Term? Cost? – I don't know whether Cytopoint works or not. My dog has Cytopoint injections every four weeks to help control itch and ear infections caused by allergies. Yeast and bacterial ear infections have also been treated by using other medications too. My dog has not had any side effects after being administered Cytopoint. He initially started his… Read more
injections at eight weeks apart. Cost of injections is forcing me to reconsider future treatment.
Cost of treatment is becoming prohibitive. The vet charges $100 for a consultation plus $155 for the Cytopoint medication. The company that makes the medication ought to reduce the cost and vets should only charge an injection fee for their time, that usually amounts to less than a minute. These costs on top of other fees for maintaining the health of companion animals are financially crippling.
Cytopoint injections – My 7yr. Old mulshi developed cyst after receiving these injections. Beware of the side affects of this drug before given. Show details
Works but way overpriced – Cytapoint really does work on my Staffy. There's something in my garden that makes him itch like mad, and the Cytapoint stops it. But it only lasts 4 weeks so it's absolute extortion charging the price that they do. Really unfair that people who care for their dogs are taken advantage of like that. Show details
Have used does not last – I have used several times. Yes, at the beginning it does last approximately sixty days, but as time goes by it last less and less time. Went back to using the chewable tables. A short convenience and costly. It works, but you will have injections more than you would like. Show details
Surely not perfect cytopoint – My miniature pinscher of 1year and 6 months got a cytopoint shot 10 days ago.It saddens me that vets and zoetis just want to make money. What about our dog kids??I noticed the tip of his ear hairs falling out and he still itches sometimes I doubt I will use your product named cytopoint again.Long term this cannot and I say it again cannot be safe for your dog child!! Cytopoint is amazing!! – My 5 year old dog has suffered from severe dermatitis caused by allergies since he was a puppy. I have tried everything from steroid creams, Apoquel, high omega 3 diet, probiotics, natural remedies - you name it, I’ve done it. Nothing worked. He was always itching and prone to yeast infections. Recently my vet suggested cytopoint. I noticed a… Read more
difference within hours of his injection. He has now been itch (and dermatitis) free for six weeks. He has only had one injection so far and will be due for another one soon. I can’t recommend it enough. The photos with inflammation were taken the day of his first shot and the other photos were taken 6 weeks later. I also bath him with Malaseb shampoo once a week.
Update: My dog has been on Cytopoint for 2 years now (injections every 8 weeks) and still has the same great results. I notice his dermatitis returning at the end of the 8 weeks so I can tell it is definitely helping.
Worked first – Frenchie had tried diet modification, allergen rinsing, and every topical application under the sun but to no avail. Vet suggested cytopoint. First shot worked within the day to stop aggravated belly rubbing, armpit/back of foreleg scratching and nose rubbing/foot chewing. But unfortunately, red bumps started to show again by 2 weeks. I ran a… Read more
course of steroids for 10 more days, and got a second cytopoint soon after. Second one doesn't seem to be working as well (but the symptoms are milder overall so maybe just the contrast not as great). We will continue for now. Injection alone aud177. Update; 3rd injection, red bumps again within 3 days... I think we will need to look for an alternative unfortunately
Good for seasonal allergies – Our dog started having spring allergies that were quite bad in 2019. The traditional/regular vet wanted to put her on steroids and Apoquel. I resisted. We found an integrative vet who told us about Cytopoint. We started getting two shots every spring between March and May. Works well. I am not into lots of drugs but this seemed like the mildest, best thing.
Very effective but expensive – My American Staffordshire Terrier suffers from allergies all year round as well as Anaphylactic Shock. He constantly licks his paws, butt and groin and gets recurring ear/toe infections. I've tried everything to no avail, then my vet suggested I try Cytopoint. I noticed a huge improvement the same day. I was a bit worried giving it to him with… Read more
his Anaphylaxis but he didn't exhibit any side effects and it kept him itch-free for a glorious 8 weeks. It was like owning a different dog.
My only complaint is the cost. He is 30KG and my vet charges $199.
Update: unfortunately Cytopoint stopped working for my dog so I no longer use it. Apparently some dog's immune systems can produce an antibody that stops it from working.
Shame as the first 3 times it was fantastic.
Do your own research – My dog had a Cytopoint injection in mid 2022. The vet told me "no side effects". The next day my dog didn't move from his bed till lunchtime he was so lethargic (I have since researched Cytopoint and this is a potential documented side effect). Over the next few weeks he became wobbly on his feet, lost his appetite and was just going down hill.… Read more
He had received no other drugs, or changes to his routine.
He had many tests and the vet hospital couldn't find a cause. After around 6 week's he very slowly started to pick up. This would have been around the time the medication would have started to leave his system. We thought we were going to lose him.
If a vet ever tells you there are no side effects to a medication this simply isn't true. All medications, whether animal or human, have potential side effects. I will never use this drug again.
My condolences to the person who lost their dog after a Cytopoint injection.

Changed my dog' life – This shot changed my dog's life and all of us humans feel better too. He is like a new dog! Show details
The “BEST” – Have a 25 pound dog. He is very active, loves being outside. His skin allergies are horrible and anyone else who deals with this knows how bad it is to watch. Adopted him 5 years ago and after the summer came when it got very hot out and plenty of pollen floating around he flared up severely. Took him to a veterinarian clinic that was a very… Read more
busy place and the doctor that treated him suggested a “new” drug at the time called cytopoint. Said it had only been out for 6 months but it worked much better then a antihistamine and would last longer. Maybe like 3-4 weeks. Only downside was it was expensive at $50. Worth every penny. It lasts 2-3months for him. He routinely get 2-3 injections in the warmer months of the year. Highly recommend for anyone whose dog has the biting, scratching, licking, hair removing, etc….
Killed my dog – My Boxer got the Cytopoint injection Within 2 days he lost the use of his left leg, it did come back. His health steadily went downhill. 2 weeks after injection we were at vet with him staggering and slobbering profusely, all indicators were he was ok, that night I was at Emergency vet with him, he had peed the bed, and could barely walk, again… Read more
all indicators were he was ok IE blood tests and scans. He was diagnosed with a possible inner ear infection. 2 days later he took his last steps, that began a week of basically hospice care. All the while thinking it was vertigo. 3 weeks to the day after he got the injection he passed in his sleep. I strongly believe Cytopoint took his life.
game changer ! – my ten month old chihuahua who is twenty pounds scratched and itch from the first day we rescued her .Tried everything but pharmaceuticals ,was desperate to bring relief to her went to a new vet she recommended we try it ,so damn happy she from the first day was dramatic improvement shots were 68 dollars well worth it for her comfort and ours ,i feel this is best thing for itching on the market! scratch free in oregon Show details
Changed our Dogs Life, and Ours! – Our Labradoodle suffered terribly from allergies that caused constant licking and scratching that would always lead to infection. We tried everything and even had him desensitised! Nothing worked until Cytopoint came along. It has been an absolute miracle worker. He doesn’t need it every 4 weeks, we can stretch it out at times but I always know… Read more
when it’s time for another shot. I would highly recommend it. It’s made my life easier too not having to worry about him all the time.
Problem gone in a day !!! – My dog has suffered from a severe allergy problem for a number of years, constant scratching an ripping her fur out with a result of severe painfull hot spots all over her body that would be so painfull for her an they would be bleeding.I spent ridiculous amounts of money an tried everything an last resort was taking her to a natropath an changed… Read more
her diet which was a success for a year than back in the same predicament as before.Cytopoint has been a miracle, works within 1 day an worth every cent as within that 1 day she stops scratching an ripping her fur out...I can not recommended this product enough,1 injection an it works within 1 day an never needed a 2nd injection! This company needs a pat on the back,as it's a one off treatment an actually works. The results will amaze you like they have me,her 1st injection was last year an have a app tomorrow for another injection as the allergy has flared up again which happens once a year.I have a 5 Kilo miniature fox terrior, thank you to this company for cracking the problem for many of dogs as in the end I was defeated with everything I have tried an no lasting results...Cytopoint is a game changer for dogs with this allergy, highly recommended this product 110%
Total waste of money – Took my dog to greencross vets for allergies with my dog. She ended up on antibiotics, ear drops and steroids. Went back for check up on ear infection and vet told me that cytopoint would be a great benefit for her chronic allergy licking. Told vet I would get injection after steroids finished so I could tell straight away if it worked. Vet took… Read more
my dog out the back to check her ear infection and then gave her cytopoint injection without my permission then proceeded to bill me $130 for it. I Was furious. Anyway my dog started licking and scratching about 3 weeks later. Booked her back in for cytopoint injection on vets advice for 2nd time. injection. Did not do a thing. Cytopoint is rubbish. Now working on natural therapies.
Cytopoint has been absolutely lifechanging for my poor itchy doggo! – My Staffordshire Bullterrier Billy had suffered with itchy skin for some years, we'd tried everything to manage it for him with little success. Apoquel really didn't work very well and his itchiness would often spike while he was on it, I could only safely give a higher dose for ten days while he continued to rip himself apart scratching...it was… Read more
awful. Then last year our wonderful vet told me about Cytopoint, which was only being introduced into the Australian market at the time. As one of the itchiest canine patients in the vet practice they were keen to trial it on Billy to help manage his itching. I was stunned at how well it worked, right from the first injection! Within 24 hours, all scratching and irritation had completely gone, his skin settled down and he was a much happier doggo! Some injections last as long as two months but generally I take him for an injection monthly. It's not cheap, (around $130 per injection) but the benefits far outweigh any concerns I have about the cost...I just put a little away in the bank each pay in a "Billy account" so I can afford it. Cytopoint has been an absolute lifechanger for Billy, I can't recommend it highly enough and if I could give a six star rating here, I would.
Started working the same day of treatment – My little dog started licking her feet and they were red raw even to the point of losing sleep. I tried everything from potions, lotions, antibiotics, soaking feet in different solutions, Apoquel, steroids etc etc.. This lasted for about 2 years and nothing worked until I tried Cytopoint from the Vet. She had 3 injections a month apart and I was… Read more
told she would have to stay on the injection for life, but her skin has cleared up after only 3 treatments! She hasn't needed another treatment for 3 months so far. I would strongly recommend this amazing product as my dog now, has an amazing quality of life.
