Loud & Inefficient – The unit functionally works well by. However, Daikin claim this unit has an input power of 6.11kW, yet I often see above 10kW. It also operates like a non inverter system and doesn’t idle down, it’s more often than not ‘on’ or ‘off’ and draws a lot of power. Add to this the noise of the outdoor unit (fans often at 100%), neighbours complaining,… Read more

unable to operate it at night, it quickly becomes an all round lemon of a system. I suspect this is an industrial model converted for domestic use. My experience has me telling people to steer away from Daikin, mainly for their misleading power consumption figures and agricultural system operation.

1000 bees – I live next door to one of these “quiet” units. The wind noise is normal for the size of air-conditioner, but the accompanying buzzing noise is terrible, it sounds like a large transformer or swarm of bees. Buy an Actron esp instead of this thing

When it worked it worked well but warranty back-up is dismal – When I changed over from cooling to heat this winter the unit did not function. I contacted the installer who also carries out warranty work for Daikin. over two weeks for the first service call only to be told parts were required from Daikin. Two weeks later an appointment was made for repairs only to be called 1 hour after due time the… Read more

technician wanted to cancel for another week. After strenuous complaints I was informed they don't priorities Daikin as they are extremely slow in paying their accounts and even slower in sending out parts. Unfortunately it is the customer who suffers. A private technician came within two days could have repaired the unit at the time but as it was warranty he advised me to make the claim.

So loud I cannot sleep – Unit installed recently. Outdoor unit is bulky and the noise I simply cannot describe. It is unbearable. My son’s room is right next to it and it sounds like a train is permanently going past. Poor kid. The noise is much like that described elsewhere here. Low, wall piercing vibration with an additional fan rumble and a loud “exhale” every now and then. What an expensive, expensive mistake.  Show details

Okay performance – I have had this Dalkin air conditioning system for over 10 years no and i haven't really had any problems with it, it does a good job at cooling 1-2 rooms down fast however once we turn more then 2 rooms on, the cooling performance is dramatically reduced indicating the system is quite weak, for the price that it was paid for and given Dalkin is meant to be the best in air conditioning, I would expect some better performance.  Show details

Upset – Had unit installed apricot 3years ago, the first fault was the wrong zone controls sent with unit 6 weeks to fix the issue since then had 6 temp sensors replaced. Would defiantly not buy this unit again had it recommend to me. Please stay away too much trouble with it. Not worth the wait or money.  Show details

Disgusting customer service and Unreliable product – I bought a Daikin premium inverter ducted system with multiple zone controls and optional wall controllers 4.5yrs ago, I went with Daikin over two other brands due to their alleged reliability and after sales customer service - I have been regretting that decision ever since. My unit had issues from day one with one of the boards DOA and then… Read more

taking another week to get the replacement installed just so i could run my new $12k system. I chalked it up to some unfortunate luck and teething issues and moved on, It has since suffered two major issues every year with both controller boards, a wall controller and the zone control motors all needing to be replaced during these failures and this is all topped off with their disgraceful customer service, 30min hold times just to speak to someone, and god forbid you want an update on your job logged 2-3 weeks ago or need them to follow up with their subcontractors. There seems to be no accountability, they simply give you the number of the subcontractor they have passed the job to and say its up me, the customer to chase them up there's nothing they can do, and when you ask to speak to a manager you're put on hold for another 20 mins in the hope you'll just give up (which i now have) - absolutely disgusting customer service. I will never buy or recommend a daikin system to anyone again.

If this was a car I would have sold it two years ago.

Don't make the same mistake I did, Go with another brand - the daikin brand of days gone past is no more, its all about cheaper quality products, disgraceful customer service and riding their reputation from 10-20 years ago. You have been warned.

NB - As I write this I'm currently on hold (24mins and counting) to chase up my latest warranty repair job.

Customer service??? There is none – This system cost me $11220 9 years ago. It came with a 5yr parts and labour warranty but just after the warranty ran out, one of the two fans burnt out...for no apparent reason - $400 cost to replace. Then, less than 3 years later I find that both fans have burnt out and the PCB board has fried. My local dealer felt awful so got the parts a little… Read more

cheaper for me - $1600 cost to repair. A phone call to the area sales manager was fruitless. He had the cheek to accuse the installers - Daikin recommended installers mind you- of being "not Daikin trained" and therefore, insinuated they may not know exactly how to install or trouble shoot as a "Daikin trained" engineer may. I realise the warranty was out, but not exactly helpful, confidence instilling or having me wanting to recommend their products. I explained I had several work colleagues on the verge of purchasing systems who were asking me about my experiences with Daikin - as this is the second system I have purchased from them - which made not an iota of difference in the attitude I experienced. $25000 is how much I have spent with Daikin in the past 11 years...never again.

Noisy unit – Recently had this unit installed in a new suburb in Canberra where our neighbours are on your back door. The cooling and heating are excellent and cools and warms with in minutes but the outdoor unit is so noisy it buzzes all the time. Cant have unit on of night as you can't sleep for the noise and feel bad for the neighbours. Can something be done to stop the buzzing noise??

Sneaky legalese to avoid warranty obligations – Daikin use "got ya" to avoid honouring their warranty where they stand on the letter of the warranty rather than the intent. Let me explain: We have had one of these units installed for 6 years. Several weeks ago, it stopped working. When we called the Daikin service guys out they found that a weld on a refrigerant pipe had broken due to metal… Read more

fatigue caused through vibration.

After they fixed the weld and started the machine, it was very noisy and they determined that the compressor had become unbalanced which caused the vibration which led to the failure.

As it was only 1 year outside of warranty, and given we only use the unit for approx 8 out of 12 months (and not every day for that matter), I am very certain the problem with the compressor started while it was still under warranty.

When I discussed the issue of the problem starting under warranty, they simply said that I should've reported the problem before and it would've been covered and, therefore, because I didn't I should have to pay.

Now I'm no legal expert, but it is my understanding that the warranty covers any problems arising out of poor manufacturing that occur during the first 5 years. This problem obviously had, but Daikin's position was that although it "might've" occurred under warranty, the fact I didn't report it in that time, it was not covered.

I understand if the compressor had failed abruptly, outside of warranty, that it wouldn't, or shouldn't, be covered but this problem had to have been happening for quite some time for the vibration to cause the weld to break, and since we don't use the system all year round nor everyday it increases it's likelihood of the problem starting under warranty.

They were very rude about the problem and I was given the impression, after talking to them, that this type of thing happens to them all the time and they certainly know their warranty obligations under law. There was even a shallow reference to their legal department to confirm their position.

At first, there was no consideration that it would be covered under warranty but after I persisted and kept going higher within the organisation, that a compromise was struck - we had to pay half of the cost!

When we looked at a ducted air-conditioning system, we looked at all of the brands and decided that we would go for, what we considered to be, the best on the market and was prepared to pay extra for it. In hindsight, that was a bad mistake. No doubt all manufacturers would have the same attitude towards their warranty, but at least we would've save over $4k . We thought that a large reputable company would have more integrity and be prepared to consider the circumstances and look at our situation realistically; that they would want to protect their brand. Instead, they hid behind their legal obligations.

When you have to deal with them for any warranty claim, you come away with that feeling you get after being sold an insurance policy you didn't want from a smooth-talking, smarmy, insurance salesman. A dirty feeling of being ripped-off.

My advice: go for the cheaper brands and save your money for any repairs - you will be better off than buying the most expensive system and still have to pay for repairs.

There are some reviews on Whirlpool also pointing to this behaviour by Daikin - blaming ants/mice/insects to avoid warranty repairs.

Good brand but this model is very noisy from your neighbour's point of view – We chose Daikin as we had had a smaller model installed in the previous home we built. However, it was not until this arrived (and the size of it) and installed that we were to discover the noise levels - there is no difference between day and night time noise from this baby. Fortunately our neighbours have not complained (yet). Also, the… Read more

company that installed it did not bring it far enough out from under the eaves which adds to the noise (fan is on the top so it reverberates) and drop in efficiency as the eves prevent the air from being expelled a unencumbered flow away from the unit. It is still under warranty but if we want it moved further out it will be at our cost, approx $1,000. Think twice before purchasing this model.

Great for All Seasons – First, I qualify that I work in the building industry and hence understand what I was getting into when I built my house and decided on a Daikin. As I wanted a monster of an A/C unit (my specification was 20kW cooling and 22kW heating) and narrowed the choice down to 2 brands, Daikin and a popular Korean brand but my installer was more… Read more

comfortable servicing Daikin so I went along with it.

The Fan Coil (indoor unit) was hooked up to a multi-zone controller and I was able to cool both rooms and living areas simultaneously unlike smaller capacity ones which is a plus point if you entertain people and it'll be embarrassing if the house is a sauna. The unit cools the house in a few minutes and because it cools so quickly, the inverter throttles down to a low speed and consumes much less electricity compared to a smaller unit which would have to work continuously to cool the house in summer.

I read some of the earlier posts about noise but I am curious because my own research shows that for a given capacity, the Daikin unit was actually quieter than most other major brands. However understanding that the noise of a large unit would be a problem, I had the outdoor unit located away from living and sleeping areas so it doesn't bother anyone.

I have had it for over a year now and gone through all 4 seasons and am very happy with the unit. Washed the filters regularly and recently serviced the unit. Had no issues with it and never looked back. Value for money, reliable and energy efficient.

Alright for cooling – We’ve had this system since building the house pretty much, which has been three years now. The external and the internal  (in the roof cavity) units are huge. When looking for a ducted aircon system, the main concern was whether the system would be powerful and capable of cooling our whole house, which is 360msq, there abouts. Heating for us… Read more

in Brisbane wasn’t such a big concern, and happy just to rug up more - if I were looking for a heating solution, gas heating would’ve been the preferred system.

So things to note are as follows:

The control panel does eat up quite a noticeable amount of electricity, even when not in use. We’ve chose to turn off the whole system from the mains when not in use, which is pretty much all year, except during summer.

This unit is pretty noisy, and it does concern us a little that it may actually be too noisy for the neighbours. Even so, when all the windows are shut, and we have the system going, we generally can’t hear the system running. You can hear it, but it’s not that loud that it’ll be annoying. Also the internal unit is pretty noisey too.

We’ve never used this system to heat, so can’t comment on its heating ability.

In terms of cooling, it does seem to be pretty powerful, though we’ve never really wanted to cool the whole house at once.

Overall, without being able to compare it to another system, it was quite a large investment and sometimes I question as to whether it was really worth it. But there are days when the house is like a sauna, and I’m glad that we do have it.

It is noisy.

Bad – It definately does its job, but every time the compressor kicks in it is like an aeroplane taking off. I've had the installer and daikin out twice but they advise I just have to live with it, it is the way it operates. SO, if having a loud compressor driving you nuts, especially at night time when you really notice it, doesn't bother you - and a… Read more

MASSIVE electricity bill to go with it... then go for it! Cools the house brilliantly - perhaps too brilliantly, it is freezing at 25 degrees and too hot at 26 degrees, its a fine line. So noisy, particularly at night, that it cannot be ignored. The neighbours have complained.

Terrible – Buy something else. Daikin wont back their product and know that the outside unit is too loud. You will be very dissappointed!!! The outside unit is so loud. My neighbours all complain. Sounds like a plane taking off. Inside unit continues to blow cold air when the unit reaches temp on heating.

Good – This ducted airconditioning system is great! It works very well and very quickly. You can come home to a very hot and humid house and after ten minutes your entire home is cool, unfortuantely it does cost a bit to run but I am not sure if any other Brand would be any better. We have ours zoned to 7 different areas of the house and although it is… Read more

big home (36square) you only need to put on usually three zones at one time...unless you want additional rooms on for short use in which case it is simply a press of a button. It is so easy to use and the option to have just the fan on or de-humidifier on is a great idea also. It set us back around $15G all up so think very carefully about what you need but remember you always need to get an air-con that is big enough to do the job correctly. Finally it is a bit noisy (the outside unit)when it's working hard, but not too bad on low, so be sure to have that put in an area away from where you may sit (inside or out) Works well! Price..to buy and to run!

Bad – it should have been a great investment, but the cooling side has been a waste of time. our pre existing aircons. blow refridgerated air, but this daikin does not live up to its reputation. quiet, and efficient for heating the cooling has been very disapointing, has not been effective , even over night when there is no competion with the sun. installer unhelpful.

Excellent – We got this unit by default, the unit we wanted (by another manufacture) was not available when the service tech came to install so we reached an agreement with the installer to take this unit. house down (+270sqm) with little effort. The system inside is quiet, we have had ducted before and this is quieter than other systems. For its size, the outdoor unit is very quieter, it sits on the wall next to our walk-in and you cannot hear it inside the bedroom, outside up close it still is not too bad. It is expensive comppared to others but it works. We would not recommend the company that installed the system, they were terrible, poor customer service, trashed our instullation and failed to advise us on electricity requirements (3 phase). This unit does cool the house down The outside unit is BIG
