Davis & Waddell DES0186

I recently purchased a Davis&Waddel yoghurt maker to make l.reuteri yoghurt. I made 3 batches and all were failures. I tested the yoghurt maker with water to test the temperature. After 24hrs the yoghurt maker had only reached 32°c. I contacted the makers twice for their help. My emails were ignored. Fortunately I got a full refund from the place… Read more
of purchase. I would definately NOT recommend this product. I've purchased a Luvelle maker which produces perfect l.reuteri.
Elegant machine, easy to use, wonderful l.reuteri yoghurt – I bought this electric fermenter on discount last week, and made L.Reuteri yoghurt over the last few days. I used one of the containers to ferment 1 litre of UHT long life A2 milk from a supermarket, 1 spoon of A2 milk powder, 2 spoons prebiotic fibre and a capsule of BioGaia Reuteri Osfortis. The fermenter is attractive compact, tidy, pretty. I… Read more
set the temperature at 38C, set ferment for 36 hours and left it. I got a wonderful tasting set yoghurt like food, with a little whey. I spooned it into the other jar with the filter in place and put the white lid on, and now it’s draining in the fridge.
I am thrilled, so easy to make using the UHT milk, no heating and stirring for 20 minutes. The flavour is great. I tasted it at 26 hours and it was exquisite, ready then though long fermenting would yield high lreuteri counts. I bought the DrDavis Super Gut book on eBay for $20 which has many recipes, information about the health benefits of many different bacilli. The health benefits of these ferments are extreme.
As well the fermenter can be used for sauerkraut, cultured cream, fermented vegs and more.
I am thrilled with the Davis and Waddell set. 2 containers, 2 caps and a filter strainer which fits into both containers. Very easy to use, good range of times and temperatures. And it worked. The device is shiny white, clear cap on top, white inner cap, attractive with white cord. I did not check the temperature but the milk fermented perfectly. I am very very pleased I bought it. And on discount the price was good.
Garbage! – Mine(2 of them) heated up to 60+ degrees C and wouldn't go below about 55c no matter what setting it was on. I exchanged the first one and the second was exactly the same so I insisted on a refund. Show details
Does not work – Less than one year ago I purchased this from Steven's Auckland. Made yoghart for about 3 months. I have wasted lots of milk after that. Only get curdle nothing else. Wasted my money. Show details
Some issues need to be resolved – I wanted an electric yogurt maker that would make a 1 litre jar of yogurt so I bought the Davis and Waddell which comes with a 1.6ltr. container and a 1.8 ltr. And my main complaint is that both these containers are made with nasty cheap plastic, not BPA free (at least it’s not mentioned if they are) and one lid to use for both containers and the… Read more
lid doesn’t seal but sits loosely on top. Awful Really and so I am thinking of returning it. Who wants to slow cook something in bpa plastic? Especially health conscious yogurt makers. Of course they don’t show the ugly plastic containers on the front of the box, they have a picture of nice glass containers on the box. I tried to contact Davis and Waddell to see if I can use glass containers in the product but they only take wholesale enquiries.
Not worth the money – In 2018 I bought my first one of these Yoghurt makers. It worked fine until one day it cooked my Greek Yoghurt. Didn‘t phase me as I had it for some time and it did it‘s job for 4 years. November 2022 I bought a new one at Stevens and now after only 3 months it does the same again. So I sat down both side by side and measured temperatures with 3… Read more
Thermometers - 2 Digital and one analog. Results were shocking. C1 runs at 48°C, C2 runs at 35°C, C3 runs at 39°C, C4 runs at 41°C, C5 runs at 44°C, C6 runs at 48°C, C7/25°C runs at 34°C and C7/65°C runs at 56.3°C. These machines ruined both my mesophilic and my thermophilic cultures. My advice - don‘t buy this contraption. Looks cute but it‘s useless. I am very very disappointed.
stinks – i followed the instructions after making kimchee but now the plastic stinks so much I cant't use it nor does there seem to be anywhere where i can get a replacement container Show details
Its a great little gadget – I liked it so much I got one for my Mum too. I have only used it to make yoghurt (none of the fancy ones though) so far but will give it a go on fermenting when I get a glut of veg in the garden. I love the straining basket and that you get a lit to store your yoghurt covered in the fridge. Its a nice size big enough for yoghurt batches but a goid size to store when not in use.
Grainy yoghurt – I have been using the yoghurt maker for 2 months now and have tried different settings and times but the yoghurt still comes out grainy. Any hints anyone as I cannot find a Davis and Waddell help centre online. Show details
Love it – Like most Yogurt makers I ask the question what does it do? Yes it does make yogurt, but the reality is, it keeps temperature correct, and its a timer, because making yogurt isn't rocket science. So if things are not working out instead of blaming the machine one needs to look at your processes. For me I use long life skimmed milk two teaspoons… Read more
of low fat milk powder, add the mother at room temp set C7 38c, 12 hours and the more you strain it the thicker it gets whey is surprisingly not to much and my yogurt is thick and creamy. if you getting low qualities of yogurt look at your processes not the machine .......Love it, set and forget
E02 error after only few months of usage – I use this for making sauerkraut. Love that I can adjust temperature and timing. Hate that error message Is now showing - and I can neither find any info on internet about what problem is nor contact D&W. That’s a large amount of Organic veggies in the compost! Disappointed at lack of customer support. Show details
I love how easy this makes yoghurt – For a few years I used an Easiyo to make my yoghurt, and it was a real hassle keeping the water bath at the right temp. I was always changing the water. Well I finally got sick of it and scouted around for a yoghurt maker. I've been using the same starter for a few years now, and it originally came from a proprietary probiotic drink. (And I… Read more
would have kept using that drink if it had not been so sickly sweet) But back to now, I just mix my starter into cold milk, use the C7 setting - 30 degrees for 27 hours. Bingo, perfect yoghurt every time and I don't need to do anything in that time frame except anticipate the result :) This is where the DES0186 maker comes into it's own, it has a wide range of time and temperature settings. Most of the other yoghurt makers I looked at don't have this. It also ferments other stuff but I have not tried that and probably never will. Cons- the buttons are a rather small. It's plastic.
Works a treat – This suits me perfectly. I can set my own time and temperature (yoghurt at 38C for 12 hours). I have been using it for a few months now without problem. Has a 1.8 litre capacity whereas a lot of others have much less. Show details

It is a perfect yoghurt maker – I brought this from Amazon, for reasonable price. Was little bit suspicious ,because i have used different braNd before. It has mentioned we can use for fermenting other things as well ,which i havent tried yet. While making yoghurt from cold room temperature milk, for me it was bit runny ,than i tried with boiled milk and culture from store… Read more
brought yoghurt,it comes perferct everytime.a Natural homemade yoghurt without any additives or extra fat Not too sour. Highly recommend for people with family who use Yoghurt on daily basis.
Excellent yoghurt – Purchased this machine to try and make yoghurt as it was quite cheap and had some positive reviews. I now use this machine on a weekly basis to make delicious Greek yoghurt. Reliable temperature control and consistent results. Show details
Disappointing – I’m disappointed in my results for this machine, out of 1.5 litres of milk I ended up with about 200ml of Greek yoghurt. Before I strained it, it was way too liquid. I used Mad Millie starter. I was hoping to make low fat yoghurt but seems low fat milk doesn’t work well. Limited information in the instruction manual. I’ve gone back to buying our yoghurt. Makes Good Yogurt – My old Easy Yogurt maker was not suitable for making certain probiotic yogurt that required a lower temperature for incubation. I could not find any review for the Davis & Waddell machine and decided to risk $65. It is similar to the Easy machine in size, but has a number of preset temp settings for various Yogurt's, Kimchi, Sauerkraut and similar… Read more
fermented dishes, there is also a variable temp setting.
In all it works ok and has produced some good results.
