It's a must if you love waffles!
I always remembered the taste of the waffles that we used to have back in Poland; when me and my sister were little. I tried so many waffles since coming to Melbourne. Whatever I bought surly looked amazing but the taste was nothing like I remembered. I always was left with that weird feeling of disappointment. I bought couple of the cheep waffle makers, but nothing worked. One day inspired by My Kitchen Rules I decided I will invest in this machine. Bit pricey, but I wanted to try last time to go back to my childhood memories of big waffle wit...h whipped cream and strawberry jam. Once it arrived, I started to look at recipe, but with so many to choose from I decided to go with the basic recipe from the booklet that arrived with this waffle maker. I made my first batch and could not believe the result! I was back in Poland!!! Could not believe how good those were, fluffy inside and beautiful golden and crunchy outside ( the "bit more" button is great). I called my sister and told her to come over immediately. You should see her face having the first bite of it! Waffles with whipped vanilla cream and strawberry jam is only dessert my sister wants when she visits now. Thank you Breville for bringing our childhood back!

I have turned into a waffle monster.
From the long list of 'do we really need it..?' comes the Breville Smart Waffle Pro. We had a waffle iron - a very old Breville actually. It had a distinguished career, making us delicious toasty waffles when needed over the last 18 odd years I think. Like any good retiree however, the later years were mostly spent in a quiet corner of the kitchen cupboard, cozied up with other kitchen equipment, rather than out on the bench making waffles. Due to the lack of use, I was therefore quite hesitant in buying a new waffle maker. A lot of positive r...eviews for the BWM640 and some sticking waffles finally pushed me over the edge however. Let's cut to the chase - if you like waffles - you will like the Smart Waffle Pro. Yes sir, this is a fantastic piece of kit. Sure there are plenty of cheaper options out there, but only a few will likely make waffles as nice as this one. The entire unit is big and sturdy and the heavy iron lid has a spring loaded latch to avoid the unit opening when you're moving it in or out of storage (you do need a bit of cupboard space to accommodate this one). The quad waffle chambers are 'proper' size - none of this one or two bite toy-waffle stuff. One waffle is a meal. This will make really good, thick, crunchy, yummy super sized Belgian style waffles for your family and admirers. Non-stick coating is absolutely superb, allowing the waffles to be taken out without a hint of reluctance once cooked. There is a simple heat setting (for various waffle dough types) and a timer that starts when you close the lid. It's as close to idiot proof as you can get and allows you to cook consistent batches one after the other. One of the best features is undoubtedly the 'waffle moat' around the bottom plate. It traps excess dough leaking out of your waffle chamber. We've all been there, overfilling our waffle iron, right? You know what I'm talking about - hot molten waffle lava oozing all over the bench and the iron. The boffins at Breville have heard our cries of pain, as this model aims to avoid these kind of disasters. Each waffle chamber takes half a cup of batter and there's enough capacity to deal with small to mid sized overfill without ruining your benchtop. Yes its relatively expensive, but it does exude quality, and fingers crossed it will live a long glorious life. This iron is definitely best in class. I haven't eaten this many waffles in years. Well done Breville.
Best waffle maker you can buy
Initially purchased on a whim after trialing this at a hotel for buffet breakfast. if you like waffles this is the best maker you can buy with easy cleanup, less spill and more precise measuring of batter with the supplied cup. Allows for extra time for browning which is great if you want to have a pale waffle so you can freeze and re-toast later. Versatile use, rosti turns out perfect.
the best waffle at home !
i have had this for almost 2 years now and like it very much. It makes great waffles, also It makes the perfect Belgian waffles too . my kids is really love it! we will never eat at another house of waffles again! We get creative and festive with it by adding fruits and whip cream. We haven't perfected it yet but it is still delicious and keeps the money in our pockets .
My search for the perfect waffle machine is over!
I've never written a review in my life but these were worth mentioning. The best waffle machine creating crispy exteior and fluffy interior with an all over even colour due to its even heat distribution. Also waffles made with other machines requires them to be further crispened up in the oven, but the waffles made with the Waffle Pro can be eatened straight away, no further crisping required. I was skeptical about their recipes but the belgian waffle recipe was soo good and had a great aroma. Money well spent!
Disappointed - no variable temperature
Based on the great reviews, I bought this. It is much more expensive than other waffle makers and for that money I would expect to be able to vary the temperature at which waffles are cooked. However you can only vary the time. So far all my waffles are coming out either too dark or undercooked. Very disappointed and will go back to my tefal waffle maker having wasted $250.
We’ve been turned into waffle-adicts!
After buying a cheap (under $30) waffle maker that was recommended by a friend (and being bitterly disappointed), the hunt was on for the best waffle make we could find! Although quite expensive, we have not been disappointed with the BWM640, and have experimented with so many flavours - apple/cinnamon/walnut is the current fave! We make double batches and freeze them (just need to thaw slightly before toasting so the middle warms up), and often find the flavour improves on fresh. Being able to set the machine and wait for the beep saves having to keep checking on readiness, especially when cooking for a crowd!
Another breville success for us!

Issue raised with machine not accepted within warranty period
I purchased the BWM640 Smart Waffle maker after researching what was available on the market and watching Breville's informative YouTube videos about the design and features of the unit. Very happy with the quality, ease of cleaning and performance of this machine. The waffles turn out great and there is a wonderful selection of recipes.
Following purchase, I became concerned that my individual unit was faulty - it worked fine except the "audible alert" that chimes to let you know when it has reached temperature (and also when the waffles a...re ready) was so quiet that was easily missed even when standing right in front of the unit. The machine is clever enough not to burn the waffles if you miss the timer, but we did find this challenging/ frustrating when trying to cook multiple rounds of waffles (eg catering family Christmas) where trying to coordinate a number of activities in the kitchen and get food out as quickly as possible. I couldn't imagine that this is what was intended. I searched on youtube and found a user video for the "Sage by Heston Blumenthal" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssuR0lD3sIY (which I understand to be exactly the same appliance just rebranded for the UK market) and the audible alarm was exactly how I expect mine should be behaving. I did not have a good experience contacting Breville Customer Service even though I explained the problem and provided a video to show my issue. I persisted (multiple calls and emails) and was advised to take my machine to an Authorised Repairer for an inspection under warranty (the unit was still within its warranty period) which was undertaken at no cost to me. The Authorised Repairer advised that the unit was operating to Breville's specifications, so I had no choice but to drop the matter and just live with it! This was my first experience with Breville and my first with an appliance still under warranty. Safe to say I’ll never purchase a Breville product again. Here is the video if anyone wants to see before making a purchase decision: https://youtu.be/W_zWB7wj_fA You'll need the volume up LOUD :)
After lots of research - I bought this waffle maker and I have to say, it is excellent.
It churns out perfect waffle after perfect waffle.
I'm still experimenting with recipes - but the waffle maker itself is definitely a winner. If you love waffles and you can afford it - this is worth the investment.
Used 1st time so cant give accurate review
Bought from Myer store in Ebay last month but started using today. Heard sparked sound 5x so has it replaced w/o any hassle instore. I have been using Breville BWM520 and has been excellent so decided to change to this model becoz i have read good reviews and this model has sensor cooking!
Great waffle maker but...
Waffle maker worked great still does with the exception that the timer doesn't automatically start anymore which is a shame.
Most of my appliances are Breville love the products but a little disappointed the timer has failed.
Have to press the restart button to get the timer started. I think I read other people also had the same problem shame they hadn't rectified the repeating issue
I used a gluten free recipe from a website [link removed] on the first batch the waffles were wonderful. I lightly sprayed both surfaces and there was total release of all 4 waffles. It is important to measure half a cup per waffle (in the cup supplied) otherwise the mixture can spill into the surrounding tray which is designed to catch overflow. It is not cheap but we bought with frequent flyer points which eased the price pain. It is just so simple to use & we love it.
I Am In Waffle Heaven
This machine is costly and that is the only negative against this machine. Luckily Myer had it on sale when I was looking to purchase one. I have had this waffle maker for 4 weeks now and made lots of different waffles. The recipes that came with the machine produce a perfect waffle but I have experimented with other recipes and have made others such as Apple and cinnamon and even savoury ones using leftover roast meat or corned beef and they have turned out perfect. Even those with cheese have not stuck and each time it has been a breeze t...o clean and having the moat to catch any spills is a big bonus. I went for the 640 and am glad I did as making 4 at once saves any arguments about who gets the first ones. I wasn't too sure in the beginning if it was worth buying a Belgian waffle maker but I am hooked on them now as are my family and friends. This is a quality waffle maker that makes excellent foolproof waffles, thick, light on the inside and crispy on the outside and I am very pleased with my purchase as they turn out just as good if not better than those I get when eating out.
Perfect waffles - consistently
I used to travel a lot with work and stayed at some very nice hotels, where I'd often have the breakfast bar chef make me waffles for brekkie. So, just establishing I know a good waffle when I eat one.
The Breville BWM620 makes waffles as good as I've ever eaten, anywhere. Simply; and time after time. I've yet to make a dud. The classic waffles it makes are nice; the Belgian waffles are excellent; and the Breville's buttermilk waffles are superb. Light and soft on the inside and golden brown and slightly crisp on the outside.
It is e...asy to use and simple to clean. The design is quite beautiful; one of those products you look at and think "Yep, this is a quality item". As it should be for the price. Yeah, that price. It is good value for money, you do get what you pay for, but you have to like waffles. If you do, and the idea of perfect waffles every time is appealing, then look no further - the Breville BWM620 or 640 is for you.
Doughy on the inside
After some research, I decided on this waffle maker because of all its great reviews, and I forked out the high price to purchase it. It does have some nice features - it is easy to clean, does four at a time, and the waffles are crispy on the outside. But inside they are doughy. I can only describe them as awful. Despite having two dials - one for batter type and one for preferred darkness - the heat/thermostat setting is fixed and cannot be varied. The computer uses both dials just to calculate how long to cook them.
I have tried followin...g the buttermilk, Belgian and classic recipes that came with the waffle maker to the letter, and still they are just wet dough in the centre. Changing the settings doesn't help. I have increased the cooking time til they're burnt on the outside but still the centre is doughy and disgusting. I seem to be in the minority here, everyone else describes them as "fluffy". Any advice would be appreciated. I doubt I can get my $200 back now, but I just want to make edible waffles.
Very reliable. Great results every time.
I have had cheap waffle making machines in the past and they have worked for a while until they needed to be replaced. I purchased a more expensive waffle maker recently and threw it out in disgust as all waffles had to be removed in fragments and the clean up of the machine was horrendous. Naturally i was sceptical about making another waffle maker purchase. However, a friend of mine has this machine and she's very happy with it. I did further research and found all reviews of this machine to be positive so I took the plunge and purchased ...one. I have had it for a week and have tried several different mixtures. All have worked out famously. It does not stick or burn and the waffles are easy to remove. Along with the other satisfied customers, I am very happy with my purchase, and recommend it to others who are looking for a reliable machine that will last for years. The wide moat around the outside is a great addition to the design. I make waffles using legumes and whole grains. They are replacing bread for us. Waffles, made with wholesome ingredients, are a much cheaper and healthier option to bread. I experimented with potato waffles today. The first batch turned out amazingly well. For the second batch I varied the ingredients and ended up with a sloppy mess with a crispy crust in the waffle maker. I dreaded the clean up but then discovered the whole sloppy mess simply peeled off the waffle maker leaving behind no messy residue. This waffle maker is a real bonus in my kitchen. Thank you Breville.
Great machine and excellent quality waffles!
I purchased this machine after some research first and this one had very good reviews. I will add to these complementary reviews as I am very impressed by this quality machine. It is definitely built to last. Very heavy and professionally built. Four waffles at a time is great for our family of 5 to 6 on weekends. One batch of batter will make 8 - 9 waffles and they are scrumptious! These were devoured with many a 'yum' to follow. This machine has the option of controlling many parts of the cooking process, especially the darkness of the waffle..., just like a toaster in fact, which is good for my fussy, spoilt lot! It is very easy to clean, just wipe over when still hot and it's done. It would be one of the more expensive of waffle makers on the market but you certainly get what you pay for here. Friends have purchased cheap ones and have found them to be useless. It is the amount of heat and the distribution of heat that is important for crisp outside and fluffy inside waffles and that is what you get. I am very impressed and love this machine, it will have great use in our home for Sunday breakfast alternating with the family favourite of pancakes of course!
Fantastic Waffle Maker
After being diagnosed with gluten intolerance due to a thyroid disease, I noticed that gluten free waffles were almost next to impossible to buy at the supermarket/bakeries, etc. I am waffle fiend and love nothing more than waffles for breakfast, dessert or even chicken & waffles for dinner. I decided if I want gluten free waffles I would have to make my own and purchased this little beauty. I would of given it 5 stars if not for the high price, but I don't regret purchasing it. It makes the most fluffy, thick and crispy waffles (gluten free an...d regular for the non intolerant people). Has multiple settings for different waffle types and a manual mode for perfect cooking, easy to clean and is pretty much goof-proof (I have not burnt a waffle yet). Highly recommended!
New Favorite "toy" for sunday brunch
We Love this new Waffle Maker from Breville !!! Purchased for mothers day and well used ever since ! Kids love it also , means sunday brunch has a new option...has also been fun for afternoon playdates ! Belgian reciepe our family Favorite so far !
Easy to use, auto timer, spill rim , just works ! Easy to use and a world away from the fab old space ship looking one my Dad has when i was a child ! Gorgeous !!!
Very easy to use and clean
This was a real 'indulgence' purchase that I was worried wouldn't get enough use to justify the price ($205 on sale), but even with just Sunday brunch use, I think it's a good investment. I have the BWM640 which makes 4 waffles at once and it really is easy to use and more importantly, very easy to clean afterwards. The waffles are delicious and very substantial, one with ice cream is surprisingly filling. I've had no problems with the recipes from the pdf on the Breville website.
It's worth noting that it can't be stored on it's side, so yo...u need the space to store it flat (the 4-waffle model is 40 cm deep x 33 cm wide). It's heavy enough that I keep it on the bench rather than in a cupboard. Breville: I wish it could be stored vertically, it would save a lot of space! I'm also not a fan of the brushed stainless steel finish, I'd rather it matched my other Breville appliances which are all black. It only took a few days before I splashed water on it which has left annoying marks that I haven't been able to remove. I would give it 5 stars if these two things were changed.

Questions & Answers
How can I prevent belgian waffles from burning on the outside and undercooking on the inside? I have had my waffle maker for just over two years and for the bulk of this time the maker worked beautifully. However, for the last few months our belgian waffles are either burnt on the outside or undercooked on the inside. Is there something I can do to fix this? I purchased mine in Canada so not sure where I can send this to to fix it but by now it's certainly out of warranty.
What's the difference between the 620 and 640? Is it just that the 640 makes 4 waffles? Can I make potato waffles with both?
The 620 seems to be discontinued in australia. I love the 640 (which was expensive until my wife found frequent flier points). Not sure what potato waffles are/
I make gluten free waffles using buttermilk & there are great recipes on this web site;
Hi Adriano - there are two waffle makers in the Breville range - you can view both product details and download recipes and the instruction booklets from this link
